I liked it. I liked it a lot. The second book is my favorite book.
granger_girl
I really liked Lockhart, he's sooo funny character and that's why the second book was so cool and funny. I liked Lockhart scenes the most!!!!!! tongue.gif
hp123
I think the second movie is completely different from the book. I'm barely in the middle of the book, and I notice changes. Of course the movie couldn't be STRICTLY loyal to the book, but these things are really different.

Anyway, the second book is great! How the Chamber of Secrets was under their nose a lot of the times, Moaning Myrtle, the Polyjuice Potion, Lockhart, and all the other characters.
Catch_22
I've gotta say the number one thing i just LOVED about book two was Lockhart. He was just the most amusing character Rowling could have came up with. A complete fraud, but hillariously funny. The whole spiders thing creeped me a bit, but I just loved the way Lockhart was portrayed
Lordmuggleborn
I liked lockhart, he is funny, i dont like the feel of the book, its just too green.
Shuntpike
CoS is my least favourite book in the series. I have read it less times than all the others. I just don't like the feel of the book, it seems so dull. I think that the bits with Lockhart in are funny, he's a sort of comic relief for the book. Like i said, it's my leaset favourite book.
Lordmuggleborn
I agree with you shuntpike, but i have the feeling you agree with me that the book is just too...."Green". You know what i mean dont you?
Shuntpike
Lol, yeah i do, i always imagine toilets as well when i think of CoS.
Catch_22
Toilets... what an odd group of people we are. I lean towards every book i write in, someone's gonna write back. *shiver*
Lordmuggleborn
Yeah, Shuntpike has always been...how can i put it...strange. laugh.gif
Naz
lol lockhart was great! i love the way he loves himself!!
Tom`Riddle
reviving time..

CoS rocked! gotta love Tom Riddle... "Lord Voldemort is my past, my present, and my future!".. blah blah magic "I am Lord Voldemort" wand trick..
Louise
I have a feeling that this thread will pretty much revive itself after HBP comes out and everyone starts kicking themselves because of all the "obvious" things pointing towards the plot of HBP that they missed when they read CoS the first time around... tongue.gif

I really liked the bit where Snape got all defensive when Lockheart said he could make potions too... tongue.gif For a guy that's spent his entire working like pursuing the DADA position, he gets kinda touchy when someone steps on his turf, doesn't he? tongue.gif Aw, love him.... wink.gif
Hallia
Well, even if he likes the DADA post... we canīt deny heīs good at what he does.
Iīve got to admit that CoS is the HP book I like less, but Lockhart is a very interesting character, and gives us lots of moments of laughter!
Makua
I found a mistake in CoS, when Harry asked Moaning Myrtle how she died she told him that a boy came in and sayd a few words she didnt understand, she came out to look and died. she saw 2 big yellow eyes. but didnt tom needed to open more doors before the basilisk could come out, like the mouth of the statues mouth?
Hallia
Maybe not, if the Basilisk wasnīt inside the Chamber but in the chamber or whatever it is that leads to the door of the Chamber. Or maybe his vocie carried out all the way to the mouth of the statue.(hey, who knows?? wink.gif laugh.gif )
lawks_fuster
chamber of secrets is also nice!
i love the part where the trio had the polyjuice potion!
well, it's cool!
i prefer having some polyjuice potion! it's cool indeed!
but i think it doesn't taste good!
what do you think??? blink.gif

one question for you:
do you blame ginny opening the cos???

for me, i really don't blame her!
maybe it's really difficult being possess by voldemort!
something really weird can happen to you!
you even don't know where you are! somehow you're crazy!

well, anyways that really add to the thrill & action of the story!
right???
Voldemort's_Princess
Loved CoS...ok, I can admit it, loved all the parts towards the end of the story that involved my beloved Tom/Voldemort. tongue.gif blink.gif It was the least exciting of the series thus far, but trying to figure out who Slytherin's Heir really was, and where the Chamber of Secrets was hidden added a little bit of spice to the book. Heh, I had no clue who Slytherin's Heir was until the very end...I still fell like such a dunderhead for not figuring out that it was Tom!

QUOTE

Well, of course not! I don't think any of us blame Ginny for opening the Chamber. Lord Voldemort took control of her mind, body and soul; I don't imagine that's an easy thing to try and stop.

Question for discussion: what do you think are the 'obvious things' in CoS that point to the plot of HBP?

Ah, for the sake of not being a duplicate thread and off-topic, that question should be discussed in its specific thread here.

This thread should be the general discussion. Likes, dislikes and other minor plots, you know... wink.gif

Aight, carry on now...
Westerly
This was also my least fav of the series - it had it's good points and was actually clever but somehow it lacked the life of the other books and was a little amateurish.

Lockheart brought the light-heartedness and I just loved the way that he kept stepping all over everyone's turf.

I like that. He did defend his post, didn't he? Maybe after OotP he'll give up on trying to get the DADA job. I also agress, he does know his stuff.
Hallia
I have a question about underage wizardry... In CoS(the book) we see Ron open the trunk and start the car with his wand when they can't get onto the platform. I though they were only allowed to do magic when they were in school or the train, for that matter. How come he doesn't receive a ministry warning??
gryffin_hauz_88
Hmmm... maybe because it's in the car. I mean, there's no particular magic had done? dry.gif biggrin.gif

I like the book but like some, it's my least favorite.

I also have a question. If Voldemort was already feared by the wizards and witches for hundred years, why is it the diary of Tom Riddle brought Harry fifty years ago, wherein Tom is only 16 and he's not yet the most powerful wizard? huh.gif
Hallia
OK, while rereading CoS I came across these quotes:
"He was tired of people skirting around him in the corridors, as though he was about to sprout fangs or spit poison; tired of all the muttering, pointing and hissing as he passed." (pag.157, Bloomsbury edition)

"Yeah, he's nipping off to the Chamber of Secrets for a cup of tea with his fanged servant"(pag.157, Bloomsbury edition)

"'Could've been anything,' said Ron.'Maybe he got thirty OWLs or saved a teacher from the giant squid. Maybe he murdered Myrtle, that would've done everyone a favour...'"(page 173, Bloomsbury edition)

"And while Harry was sure he had never heard the name T.M.Riddle before it still seemed to mean something to him"(page 174, Bloomsbury edition)

It was right there through all the book, and I at least didn't see it. It's amazing how JK leaves this small clues that go unnoticed, and when you read more carefully you find them there, like they wanted to be found, yelling at you from the pages. It's really something that makes me admire JK's way of writing even more
lawks_fuster
okie dokie guys!
here's a question for you! what do you think of the fight between harry and the basilisk???
i think it was disgusting! it was worst! i really didn't xpect that the basilisk would be defeated just through its mouth! dry.gif
are there any other theories out there that the weakest part of a basilisk is its mouth??? dry.gif

i just hope harry had just defeated it not by its mouth! maybe some other part of it! anyways, sorry for me....... it's done and i can't change it now! and another thing i'm not the director right?? biggrin.gif
i just want to have your opinions with regards to this.
everything i have typed was just an opinion of mine! so i need yours!:D
Louise
Not to make everyone go 'Ewww!!! Gross!!!', but I think the sword probably went up through the Basilisk's mouth into its brain, which *would* be pretty fatal...wink.gif I'm surprised it thrashed around for as long as it did, actually....

And Hallia...didn't notice your post before, but yeah, you're absolutely right. It's great how JKR chooses her words like that, isn't it? Very clever woman...wink.gif Got to give her credit for that...
Hallia
I agree with Dana about the Basilisk. It must have been it's weakest point, apart from the "being able to get to the brain" thing, because the rest of the basilisk's body is too big, it's got a diameter that's just too big, and it would have been really hard to get the sword from one side to the other, and I don't now even if that would have killed it. Besides, I think it was simply through its mouth because that's when Harry got the chance to hit, and the mouth was the only available place, so...
HPluvr4evr
[FONT=Arial][COLOR=blue] I loved the second book/movie! (But I love all HP books! lol) biggrin.gif The movie was great because it was so adventurous and exciting. The movie was a little different from the book (Like Griffindor ghost Nick's ghost party wasn't in it and neither was the Valentine's Day part) but the movie still rocked! cool.gif
Vincent
COS is my third favorite of the series. I really loved everything about it. Am I the only one who didn't find Lockheart funny because he was so stupid, but annoying? I know that I couldn't stand him. It's kind of weird, but I think that Colin Creevy is one of the main reasons as well. I always felt bad for him, and I thought it was so nice how he always followed Harry around, and he wanted to watch his Quidditch practice since he never saw one before, and he was petrified in the process of bringing grapes to Harry. Ah, whatever, I just liked the little guy. I also liked the whole Tom Riddle thing, and I remember being surprised about Ginny being the one who opened the Chamber and everything.
sara324
I didn't really like that fact that dobby HAD to do all that stuff like going to harry's home, closing the gateway, and making the bad bludger all to make harry go home. I know dobby was trying to help but I couldn't help getting annoyed whenever I read the parts because HArry was pretty patient with him. Although I'm happy now because dobby proves to be of much help in the later books!
weirdmuggleboi
What i liked most about COS was how lockhart admired himself so much. I also liked how harry had to face the basalisk.
phoenixatheart
what I don't get is, why nobody ever figured out befor where the entrance is and what the monster was. They keep saying how intelligent DD is. he was a teacher at the time when mouning myrtle died so why did he never go and ask her ghost what had happend and than put two and two together? I mean for wizard that old and knowlegable it should have been not to hard to figure it out. dry.gif
linnean
My favorite bit of COS is Ginnys valentine to Harry. It was too cute! I thought Lockhart added lots of comedy to the story. It becomes real apparent by the end of this book that DD is going to give Harry just enough information or help in keeping Voldemort at bay. Dumbledore knows he can't stop Harry from his confronting Voldemort, so instead he assists him. Thats the mark of a great leader.
Just the Droobles
Well, I liked the second book. There's not really a book I don't like... But anywho, I'm actually in the middle of rereading it right now, and I really was kicking myself in the head with all those links to HBP. I was reading the Borgin and Burkes chapter and saying "oh my gosh, it's that!" like every five seconds. I think the movie corresponded with the book really well however, except for the Professor Binns part. Some characters just have to be cut though. I mean, these movies would be seven hours long if you didn't cut anything! Us Muggles could probably use a Time-Turner sometimes... But I thought the book was actually very complex and well-thought out for having all those little nifty clues thrown all about.
cesador
I just got done rereading it and it was ok not my favorite of them, i kinda didnt like Lockhart at all he was just annoying to me as for my favorite part deffinetly in the chamber and fawkes shows up.
HermioneClone
Hmm. . .I really did like CoS, but I love all the HP books! When I realized all the connections between HBP and CoS I was kicking myself, like "Wow, there are all sorts of things in this book that you sort of dismiss and don't realize it's actually a main part in the later books!
As to Lockhart, I don't like his actual character, but I think it is sort of exasperatingly funny how arrogant he is and how he talks to Harry about how "famous" he is and how much he annoys him! laugh.gif
I'm in the middle of the book as a matter of fact right now, and although it is way before the plot thickens, it is a very well written book in my opinion.
Fenixong
Did anyone else think it was a bit strange that the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets was in a bathroom? I'm pretty sure that they didn't have bathrooms in the year 900... especially not ones with working plumbing! How then did the entrance become a sink? You would think that when they remodeled the castle to add working plumbing, that they would have found the entrance.
... or do you think that wizards just had indoor plumbing from the start (even though muggles didn't for a VERY long time)?
Louise
Mmm...I wouldn't overthink it too much, if I were you wink.gif You're absolutely right, of course, but I think we're probably meant to overlook things like that. It worked for the purposes of the story, so...

Pixymajik
My history is a little rusty, but wasn't there an ancient civilisation- I've got in my head the Aztecs?- that was found to have indoor plumbing?

There's no reason the wizards couldn't have stolen the idea from them wink.gif

But I agree with Louise- there's a lot of things about HP that you just have to ignore--- otherwise it becomes un-fun.

I think analyzing the books like this is the fun part! biggrin.gif There's always going to be mistakes and stuff that doesn't quite fit in books and movies... and I think it shows how much of a fan people are when they notice these kinds of things... Of course, JKR can create the Potterverse however she wants since it's a fantasy book... magic.gif like how there are two days in a row referred to as Monday (I forget exactly where), and how Dudley throws his Playstation out the window a year before they were actually sold... We wouldn't have much to talk about without these kinds of comments and specuations! (Yes I know, I'm a big HP geek.) geek.gif

If I can't discuss and specualate and analyze right now, what in the world am I going to do with my time while I wait for book 7?!? laugh.gif

Sorry, should have said 'over-analysing' wink.gif

I like analysing as well, but I think people in general go overboard trying to find meaning in things that just aren't there- or might be there but that aren't integral to the books etc. A lot of times people tend to get so focused and distressed by something that 'just doesn't fit' that they seem to forget to just enjoy the magic of the books wink.gif

But anyways... In short summary---- I don't think the Plumbing is a big deal wink.gif
The One
If they were so desperate to find the Chamber why didnt when the school governors search the castle just tell the ghosts to walk through every square inch of Hogwarts looking for the Chamber they would have ran across it eventually
tuni
I like every thing in the film, especially ginny's entry in the Hogwarts. How Ron support Hermione when Malfoy said to her that she was a Mud-blood,How he suffers his own create magical problem.I love this film so much.
proffesor
i loved chamber of secrets and i thought lockhart was funny even though he was annoying and i thought it was funny that hermione had a crush on him and couldn't seen him for what he really was and The One you said why they diddnt they have ghost walk all across the castle even thoough we didd't hear about this intell the fourth book you can cast spells that make places inaccesibale to all but wizards and even if dumbeldore found it he would not be able to enter because he doesn't speak parsletounge

Are you sure about this? If you have read the books, think ahead to book 6. Remember the pensieve and such? How would Albus not now the language if he could understand everything the Gaunts were saying?
~.:hogwarts.bound:.~
Hahahaha! So I'm not the only one who thinks of green when I read teh book? biggrin.gif Hahaha! laugh.gif Nah, but I just finished reading that book and it's pretty good, not my favorite but it was defenately awsome.
