I_love_Rupert_Grint
I just thought I'd ask if anyone in here is a secret Harry Potter fan or do you all scream yourlove of the books from the Heavens.

Personally I do a bit of both:

Amongst my closest friends I'm known as a Harry Potter freak but to the rest of the world I don't even know who Harry Potter is.

I know I shouldn't hide how great I think the books are but hey it's got to be done to keep people off my back lol.

My closest mates know about me and harry potter but like you the rest dont. But then i cant see why i would tell everyone im a fan anyways. Its not the sort of thing im going to do. "HI im oli and im a fan of hp" so i dont mind people not knowing as if i wanted them to i would. wink.gif

This is my trademark sentence when I am filling up an about-me-biodata-thingy:

A self-proclaimed, over-obsessed Harry Potter fanatic.

I'm not ashamed to say that, I'm PROUD to be a great, big fan of Harry Potter. happy.gif

(even though I *am* a little older than the main target market tongue.gif)

Everyone who knows me well enough knows this fact about me. Some give me really amused looks and stuff, ESPECIALLY when they find out I even moderate a HP forum!! rolleyes.gif

But you know what, I really don't give a stuff what people think...I am passionate about Harry Potter, and I don't see why I should be ashamed of something that is my passion.
Lulu
All og my friends knows that I love harry potter, and they can't believe I've read all the books seven times...
I have 2 of my close friends whom I can talk HP with. I'm not ashamed of being a obssed HP fan. I'd rather brag about Harry Potter too them. they just sigh's or laugh, but we're just kidding..tongue.gif lol
Lynn
My friends know i'm a fan, but the rest of the world doesn't. they'll just laugh at me dry.gif
TheSpecialist
Well my dearest friends i know since
forever they know I love harry potter books but like my recent new friends they don't not even my boyfriend knows i like HP
till like two days ago when they
annouce the book cover cause i was freakin
happy lol well they still like me they think it's pretty cool but yeah i really dont tell anybody except from
friends and family that i like Hp everyone else well they just have to find out there own way lol wink.gif
but i wouldnt mind shouting it out that i like Hp! biggrin.gif .

MOD EDIT : The use of netspeak in the forums is not allowed. You've been here long enough, you know the rules. Your post has beed edited.

I am a bit of both. My closest friends know all about my obsession. Though there are some days that i wishi could jump up on a table and scream it out to everyone. biggrin.gif
Allie
Why should we be ashamed of Harry Potter? I have told everyone I know about my obsession, and I am proud to say that I have managed to turn eight former non-HP readers into bona fide fans during the past two years! biggrin.gif My interest in the Boy Who Lived (okay... "interest" might be a little bit of an understatement there...) is slowly taking over my existence, so how could I hide my fandom even if I wanted to?

Haha... well, the bizarre looks started getting even more bizarre for me once I started my own Harry Potter site... tongue.gif Now I always have people telling me things like "you have way too much free time, Anthony" (err... sub in my real name there... people aren't actually calling me Anthony yet, although it is a well-known fact that I use it as my Internet alias).

LOL now that's the spirit, matey!! *high five*

Everyone who knows me well enough knows I'm a huge HP fan, and you'd think that the age would be the thing that would make them think me strange, but it's actually the fact that I'm an ACTIVE HP fan then gets to them - frequenting HP websites, actively part of a HP forum, moderating one, and wanting to be the first in line to get the latest HP book/DVD... laugh.gif
Allie
That's so sad, ashleigh07! ohmy.gif Active fandom is the most important aspect of Harry Potter obsession in general! Sure, of course I would love the books if there weren't an entire fan community centered around them out there, but talking to other people, making predictions, debating over ships, etc. is a HUGE part of the experience, in my opinion. I feel terrible for anyone who does not see how exciting midnight release parties, fan sites, forums (yes -- even moderating them!), and all other associated Harry Potter-related activities can be. I don't know how old you are and I can't really relate to the age thing because I'm probably more in the "target audience" than you, but I do know some older fans..... and anyone who wants to mess with them because of their ages has me to deal with! tongue.gif Continue to spread the obsessiveness! Long live Harry Potter! biggrin.gif
ashleigh07
Spot-on mate...I totally agree!! But tell all that to me mates...grrr tongue.gif

And I'm 21 btw... wink.gif
Oliver (D69)
Im 18 and im sure i will still like it when im 21 and so what, Its up to the person if they want to like it or not. Im not hurting someone for doing so. (well my bank card takes the pain)
gryffindor_girl_06
im both....my closer friends know im a Harry Potter Fan, very big fan, and i always talk about it, and get ecited about it, ya i get made fun of, but i dont care!....the only reason people dont know is cuz they dont ask...if someone asks me i'll tell them, like whats my favorite book, or hobbie, or if i like HP, then i'll say, but if i dont need to tell them, then i wont, why do they need to know....unless they're a fellow fan...then great! so one that gets me! biggrin.gif

MOD EDIT : No netspeak allowed. Your post has been edited.
Sofie
my closest friends know that im a HUGE HP fan, but i dont hide it from the others either.
but of course if i met a new person i wont say "hy im Zsófi and im a hP fan. nice to meet you"

smile.gif
james pickles
the whole class knows i love harry potter sometimes they make up mean jokes like im gat cause i like it and that i want to get into bed with him but i dont know how everybody know because i havnt told them. i just won a harry potter quiz at school and got a 5 pound voucher and they were all teasing me about that
BLondiE_
unsure.gif well accually.... only 2 of my friends know that i like harry potter. unsure.gif people are mean at my school!!! i already get made fun of atleast once a day! i don't wanna give them another STUPID reason to be mean to me. ph34r.gif
zyra123
I am an obsessed HP fan, and proud of it... but I wouldn't go around broadcasting it either. If anyone asked, like my favourite book, then I would proudly say it's Harry Potter. Although, all the time I'm sitting in the train to go to uni holding the book up (intentionally showing the cover tongue.gif), people might have an idea, you know! tongue.gif

But yeah, I wouldn't hide the fact if that's what you mean... wink.gif

That stinks,

i'd hate that, i think most my mates know i like the books, i think most of my mates like the books too...well, a few of them.
Nah i dont hide the fact that i like post on Harry Potter websites and crap, most the time am in class when am doing it so everyone see's and most of them take an intrest in it, so its all good!

MOD EDIT: You might need to watch your words here. This is not the first time you're asked of it either.
I_LOVE_RON
Everyone i know, know's how much i love Harry Potter. its part of my personality and one of my defining characteristics. Fortunately no one discriminates my liking of Harry Potter but i occasionally get a roll of eyes. My family and friends tease me sometimes but its all in the name of fun and they still get me any Harry Potter stuff they see.

I love Harry Potter and i don't hide it but I let everyone know how much i love it.

ha, my dad always tease's me, all the time. i was moaning about having to tidy my room and he was like "why dont you steal a wand from one of your Harry Potter people?" (i just looked at him with a snape evil glare) but your right 'it is all in the name of fun'

Souljacker
I can completely relate to that! I always get that at home, 'your not reading that again?!' is the main response I usually get, when reading Harry Potter, but it's mainly meant as a joke (I think wink.gif )
I always usually keep one of the Harry potter books near me when I’m studying, so I can take 1/2-hour breaks every 10 minutes. biggrin.gif

But back on topic I wouldn't say I’m a secret Harry potter fan. I'm quite happy to read my Harry potter books up on the train, and I don't think I've hidden my Harry Potter obsession from anybody, but equally I don't think I’ve managed to convince anyone to start reading the books, save a few. ahh it's just no good!

Ha, yeah, lol. I’ve defiantly ranted about the books a great deal, I don’t know if I’ve convinced some one to read it either, I’ve lent my books out to a few people though!

Ha, I’d so do that to if I ever studied, which I don’t. lol.

but yeah, i've never felt the need to hid the fact that i enjoy the Harry Potter books, movies, whatnot, i guess because its kind of part of me (if you get what i mean) its like a hobbie (in away)

I_love_Rupert_Grint
I'm glad to see there are so many proud Harry Potter fans in the world. I must admit that there are quite a few people that now know I'm mad about Harry Potter and luckily enough they haven't teased me yet. (thank God)

Also I have tried to make a lot of people read the books but only a few have actually taken my advice.

I can totally relate to what you said about parents saying 'your not reading that again' Souljacker my parents do it all the time because anytime I go anywhere I have a HP book with me (usually PoA because its my favourite andsomehow I am always on that 1 when I go anywhere lol)
ashleigh07
LOL Souljacker!! biggrin.gif If I'm in the hall watching one of the HP DVD's right, and my dad happens to walk by, he just gives me this "My daughter needs to start acting her age - Harry Potter, unbelievable" look. I think it just absolutely baffles him that I'm approaching 22 but yet I'm this huge fan of HP, I still watch cartoons and I'm recruiting an army of soft toys as we speak... wink.gif tongue.gif

Well as I said in my last post, I don't have a problem with people knowing I'm a fanatical HP fan. Most of me mates that know me well enough, some even not so, know that I'm a huge fan of HP. I guess I've been lucky in a way, that I don't have mean classmates or whatever. I *do* get the quite usual amused looks which is mostly because of the age factor I guess.

Whatever you know...like zyra, I'm passionate about HP and I'm proud of it!! happy.gif People can think all they want, I really don't give a stuff. To me, it's to each their own, y'know. Nothing wrong with a 22-year-old liking HP... tongue.gif
keepstar1331
Hmm...no one but my family knows im obsessed with HP. Quite literally obsessed.

I kind of run around at school with the "popular crowd" and f they knew how crazy i was, don't know how many parties i'd be invited too...

I don't really mind, HP isn't really a discussion thats brought up all the time, so it's not like im hiding myself.

I guess a giveaway would be my backpack (which is HP) but since i have a Care bear and My little pony one too, the just think im going for that "look"
Dragonlord89
Only my brother and a few others know that I love the series. Almost no one at school knows that I love the series. I know only one other person who might be as obsessed about the series as I am at my school. She even dressed up as Hermione once. All my other freinds like other books and not HP that much, so I don't parade it around that I love the series. If they paid more attention then they would probably know, I read the books at least once a year, and bring them to school with me. One or two I think know but don't say anything. My friend Anthony likes the books and I think got the idea that I liked them too when he read it for English we talked about book five. My friend Ashley I think knows that I like the books, she was the one to dress up like Hemione. I think I told her how many times I read the books, I think she asked me once, probably ninth grade. Other than that I don't hink anyone really know how much I like HP.
Raiden2
heh, I sepose people here are really being bully, I mean, what will anyone do if I'll tell them I like HP books? rolleyes.gif
potter_artist
Well, considering I just bought a Harry Potter shirt from Hot Topic (and I'm really not the Hot Topic kind of girl), I'd say it's not so much of a secret. Plus I posted like five times about it on my blog...
People just laugh and think I'm a weirdo, but I don't care that much. I used to, but then I got over it.
Hermione_Resilda
Hm...well, last year, I was a bit ashamed about being such a big fan. I didn't know what everyone would think. But, there was this girl that was really obsessed with HP was well (not as much as me, of course rolleyes.gif), and she wasn't afraid to show it. We're now friends, and I now will tell anyone gladly that I'm an HP dork and proud. Then again, I can't do that; I can't make my parents think that I'm even more crazy.. dry.gif
Dark Wizard MK

Well.

In Primary School, everyone knew. I got people into Harry Potter too. It was amazing, but when I got to Secondary School, I kept is secret. Only one guy knew I liked Harry Potter, he told my entire form class, and they think I like the movies only. :/ I wonder what they're reaction would be if I told them I loved the books. =o. It'd probably be "You read books!!!!!?!?!!? ohmy.gif" xD

Yeah, apart from that, only my family know. :/
Greggerz
mostly just my family knows, not too many of my friends read books. a couple of the people i work with and my mom know i read them and we talk about them a lot. cool.gif biggrin.gif
prod
nope...not secret at all for me wink.gif

Let practically everyone know that I love HP biggrin.gif

which is true!!
hermione_rocks
i don't think i am a "secret" harry potter fan, but i don't really express it.. i mean if some people are talking about harry potter, i will start talking to them about it, but i don't go like "do you like harry potter because i'm obsessed with it?"

my sister makes fun of me all the time, and my closest friends know i like harry potter.. only some know i'm actually obsessed with it, not just a harry potter reader

i remember during the HBP release i was getting really mad that i didn't get the book on the release day, and people were like "it's just a book, be patient"
razzberry2
Definately not a secret fan!! Everyone I know, knows I love the HP books, and since my games room walls are covered with the posters it's a bit hard to hide it anyway. Funny thing is none of them are into HP, I guess they think they're too old to really enjoy them, but they do ask me every now and then about it, like what I thought of book six etc. I've even got them all enthusiastic about the film GOF and a politician friend of mine is trying to get us preview tickets...cross my fingers for that one smile.gif
Krieltje
Well, I guess everyone knows that I'm a fan by now.
I won a holiday to Portugal with a drawing competition to a youth gathering and their were people from other countrys too. It was the week after the release of HBP I thought I was the only one who read the book, but 16 of the 30 students (age 16-18) were reading the book! I guess it was than that I realised that almost everyone who read a HP book, likes them deeply inside, coincidence that people from 13 different countries read HP books? ( those countries were participating in this gathering) I don't think so, I really don't have to be ashamed to be a fan smile.gif
corijp
No, I'm definately not a secret Harry Potter fan. laugh.gif *chuckles* Everyone who knows me has learned of my obsession/vice, however you like to call it. I've even had the opportunity to introduce the magical world of Hogwarts to a couple of people. biggrin.gif
Hey, Razz, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you; I'm also going to try to grab a couple of preview tickets as well. Good luck! tongue.gif
Snapelover
Funny thing..I was a secret Hp fan for a long time. I read the books for the first time during my pregnancy. Well...I fell in love with them. But didn't really tell anyone and didn't try and find anyone else who was into them either. Then...

I re-read them and fell madly in love agian. Now, I am a fanfic author, frequent VTM surfer, and proud to say I was at a midnight release party! My family thinks it's funny. My husband laughs at me and I get open mouth gapes when I pick up a HP book.

"You're reading that agian!"

He just shakes his head and laughs. But now, he is getting into my fanfic, I spent so much time writing it he wanted to read it. Now he keeps asking questions. I think I can tak him into reading them someday soon... biggrin.gif

But no more secrecy for me! I tell everyone and try to turn as many people on to them as possible. I feel like some religious cult or something now that think about it....
Allie
It's seriously sounds like it can't be fun to be a secret Harry Potter fan. I wouldn't know, I've never been one - but people would think I have a pretty boring life if they didn't know about the HP aspect! laugh.gif Most everyone I know is aware of my dangerous obsession; when I meet people, the first thing I always ask is "are you a Harry Potter fan?" If the answer is yes (which it usually isn't), the follow-up question is "well, which fan sites have you joined, then?" I always wonder whether I'm going to meet another lurking VTM'er in my school or something. tongue.gif But yeah, everyone knows... there's no point in trying to hide it. My friends, my family, my classmates, my teachers, my friends' friends.... Be proud of your obsession! And don't take it personally if anyone tells you that you ought to go see a psychiatrist! wink.gif O-kay... that's my cheerleader speech for the day! tongue.gif
Omerus_Banning
Nope! I am definitely not a closet Potter fan! I am forever adding new tidbits to my workspace, and discovering that many of my co-workers are also fans...

Everyone in my family has read the books an loved them! My Mom and Dad are waiting for HBP to come out in French to read it and can't wait. It's really hard not to tell them about what happens!

Cheers!
Hallia
My sister is kind of obssessed with a Amaral, who are a Spanish music band. She was talking with another of their fans the other day and she said something about her obssession not being worse than mine with HP, so her friend asked her what age I was. laugh.gif

Really, when will people understand that this is not kid's stuff? laugh.gif Specially now, after HBP.
Dumbledore's Widow
Am I a secret Harry Potter fan? The answer is "No". My siblings and friends think I have an obsession with Harry Potter. I don't really. I just went a little ballistic after reading HBP. Why, you ask? Mainly because I'm an avid H/Hr shipper and and JKR turns out not to be... well, need I say more? But, I digress. None of my sibs and friends are into the HP books at all. I didn't know an adult who read the books so that I could engage in a debate. Then I discovered the HP websites. Now I can have discussions literally 24 hours a day. biggrin.gif
jrtpuplvr
I totally love Harry Potter, but none of my friends or family know that. People just don't understand until they read the books. Any time someone says that they are looking for a good book to read, I always tell them to read the series. I guess I shouldn't keep it to myself, but I also don't think it would make good coversation around the water cooler. smile.gif
Aethonon
Reading other people's posts, it makes me think I am a very lucky person. There seems to be a sort "almost-shame" being perpetrated upon HP fans by non-fans. But it's my opinion that those non-fans are only non-fans because they have never opened themselves up to the Harry Potter experience. wink.gif They are people who really need to loosen up and have some fun! They can roll their eyes at you, but really, they need sympathy and understanding for just not being as cool as you are. biggrin.gif

I'm lucky because even though by HP fan standards I am considered ANCIENT, I can freely proclaim my HP interest. This is because I am surrounded by people who love fantasy and history and mythology. No one would dream of insulting me for my interest in HP, because my best friend is obsessed with LOTR and Roman Britain, my son is TOTALLY obsessed with Dungeons & Dragons, as well as LOTR and HP. So it makes it very easy for me.

So far I only have LOTR bumper stickers on my van, but I'll get some HP ones this spring. lol Then the whole world will know. And if they laugh, I, in my HP-inspired greatness, shall pity them. cool.gif
Mayi
In my primary school class, everyone knew I was a huge fan of Harry Potter. But now I'm in secondary school, as far as I know, only 2 person in my class reads Harry Potter, me and one of my classmates. But we dont discuss about HP. I usually surf the net for HP alone now.
departed_soul
I'm sort of a secret HP fan. My mom and sister are absolute fanatics, and during this summer, they converted me into their fan club too. However, I don't have many friends that are into Harry Potter, and seeing as I'm about to graduate from college, it's not exactly something I'd go running down the street screaming about!

However, I found out (through facebook.com) that there are HP fans at my school too - about 300 or more, so I feel good knowing I'm not alone. smile.gif
Feeder
My closer friends know that I'm a HP fan, but mostly everybody else doesn't know because, like almost everybody else, it's not the first thing I let some one know when I meet them. Also, I don't think I'm really obsessed because I've only read each book once (except GoF).

Besides, when I'm with my friends I'm not thinking of HP or really interested in talking about it because I do that on this site.

Although I do have a few friends who like HP (especially one who's completely fallen in love with it).
Jeff
i was one for a long time intel one day i decided hay this is what i am if pepel think i'm a loser they are wrong (i'm on the football team) so i decdeied to wear a harry potter shirt to school the bigest mistake of my life no one would leave me alone it was one of my worst things at happen to me at school but after that i became a littel more open about HP. one day in class iwas setting next to this prepy gril and i had beentalking t her for a week or two so i tell her i liked HP and how many times i had read the books (5) and she was cool with it it amazed me.
NickHilton
Its not like its a particularily bad thing is it? I don't hide the fact, i read the books at school and in public places, i watch the films, preoder tickets to the new one, i don't think its exactly a big deal if your one of the multitude of Harry Potter fans.
Tigers Eye
No. Many people who know me know i'm obessed with Harry Potter. It just their common knowledge and sometimes i'm judged for that, which is also why i have stopped reading the books in school and for a while people thought that i had stopped and was what they call normal.

But of coarse my Irish teacher had to tell the whole class about my so-called amazing thing of reading Harry Potter in Irish. So now everyone things i'm kinda werid
griffindor_girl
Well actually I was stupid enough not to be overly interested in Harry Potter until last year even though my two best friends had been nagging me to read the books, even my mum was nagging me because her friend's children were raving about them. It took the Goblet of Fire film for me to then borrow my friend's copy of the GoF and begin to read....I am so embarassed saying this! sad.gif But then once I got into the books, I couldn't stop reading them! I am now just so in love with them and I literally think about Harry Potter every moment of the day unless I am asleep ( but I do have Harry Potter dreams) or at school in class. It is so good to know that my two best friends love the books but one of them now thinks I am getting a bit carried away! She thinks that no one my age (15) is obsessed like I am and I know that she couldn't be more wrong! Most people know I love the books and I couldn't give a rat's backside (lol) if they say I am over the top obsessed, it is the best thing in the world to be obsessed with and I am proud to love the books!! The only thing I wouldn't do is wear a Harry Potter t-shirt with a large crest in public, but I have been searching for snitch pajamas biggrin.gif . I regret not reading them earlier but I will just look ahead to a Potterish future! lol. I now find myself trying to force my brother to read them, it is difficult and I know how my friends felt trying to get stubborn old me to read them lol! laugh.gif

Harry Potter Lover Forever and Proud!!!!
