Harry Potter and the silver veil:

prologue: 21 years ago, the department of mysteries.

Bellatrix lestrange's spell hit Sirius Black squarely in the chest knocking him back.
"Just a stun." He thought to himself as the veil brushed against him. "So why didn't it feel like a stun?" He realized suddenly that he was dying but it was with little shock. He felt himself drift out of his body, which he saw melt away into a silver-white mist. He was on the other side of the veil now, which was clearly some portal between life and death. Only vaguely could he hear Harry calling for him and the sounds of the battle. Surprised with himself he realized that he wasn't at all sad. It had been simpler and easier than falling asleep.
"James." He said to himself suddenly. He would be able to see his old friend James Potter, who had been murdered some 15 years previously by lord Voldemort, the most powerful dark wizard in the history of the world. All around him were the ghosts of deceased people, drifting about through a silver mist. And there was James, with his dead wife Lily Potter, and an elderly looking spirit who Sirius only knew as an acquaintance: William Longbottom, the Grandfather of Neville Longbottom who was still fighting in the department of mysteries where Sirius had been only minutes ago.
"James!" Exclaimed Sirius. "Lilly!" The couple look round as did William.
"Haha, Sirius! Long time no see friend." Said James. "So you have finally met your end, doing something idiotically dangerous I suppose?"
"Was just fighting some Death eaters. My own cousin it was that killed me, Bellatrix Lestrange." Sirius spoke quite casually about it. Death was a care-free place.
"We are very glad to see you." Said Lilly. "Though I wish that you could have looked after Harry for a few years longer. We are so proud of him."
"You heard all about it then? The boy who lived and all that. I'm glad you know what he's up to but I can't imagine how-"
"Cedric Diggory." said James and Lilly in unison. "He died at the end of Harry's 4th year at Hogwarts." James explained. "Killed by Peter Pettigrew, that traitorous little rat. Well anyway, Cedric told us all about what Harry had done, how he had broken Voldemort's power, how he had stopped Voldemort from reaching the philosophers stone, how he defeated a basilisk, how he was entered into the Triwizard tournament. It's a good thing we always stay near the border or else we likely would never have met him."
"Well that all seems to fit in nicely, though I'd expect you'd be ready for another bout of information after nearly a year of little to no news." Sirius replied, and he went off on an explanation of all that he knew. He quickly became quite comfortable with death, quite the opposite of how the living Harry Potter was taking Sirius' death.

Chapter 1: A bat and four memos

Harry Potter sat in his office, pouring over some paper work. He was head of the auror office and as such he did allot of exciting and dangerous missions, but also had to work through tons of paperwork. At the moment he had to decide wether he thought it appropriate for aurors to use certain spells. The final decision would be left to the head of the department of magical law enforcement, Susan Bones, however Harry still got to rule out up to 5 of the spells. He swiftly crossed off the unforgivable curses: Avada Kedavra, Crucio and Imperio. There was a review of spells aurors could use every year, and somehow after repeated crossing offs, the unforgivable curses always managed to make their way onto the list, just to have Harry cross them off again. After some consideration Harry also crossed off fiendfyre, and then the entrail expelling curse.
A group of 3 paper airplanes zoomed into the room, landing on Harry's desk. His owl, Hedwig 2nd looked at them distrustfully. The snowy owl didn't at all like the memo's - which is what they were - taking over the owl job of delivering messages inside the ministry. Harry ignored the memos for now, turning the spell list over and scribbling an address:

Susan Bones office
Department of magical law enforcement
second level
ministry of magic

He then tapped the piece of paper with his wand and said.
"Vindicium." The piece of paper folded into a memo, and flew off. Harry then turned his attention to the three memos on his desk. Two of them were still on the desk, whereas the 3rd one was flitting about Hedwig's perch, annoying her. "Accio." said Harry and the memo was drawn into his hand. He opened it and saw it was a letter from his son James, who was at Hogwarts and in his 2nd year. James would have sent it by owl originally, but letters sent to within the ministry were copied onto memos by a group of wizards and witches inside what was called the owl station, and then these memos were sent to the ministry. The letter read:

"Dear Dad. This 1st week back has been great. Rose and Albus got sorted into Griffindor, so there's no need to worry about them going in Slytherin anymore (I know you were worried.). That Scorpius Malfoy went into Ravenclaw. I was right shocked, was sure he'd be a Slytherin. I've learnt a couple of new spells already, and can turn quite allot of stuff into massive spiders, Rose hates that. Albus has gotten used to it all now, and isn't nearly as nervous as he was a few days ago. I've bought a few prank stuff from other students here and am planning to use them in conjunction with the invisibility cloak as soon as possible. Anyway, I hope it's all good fun at the office. Love from James."

Harry smiled. James would love turning things into spiders, which would scare Rose silly. She had inherited a fear of spiders from her father, Ron Weasley, who was Harry's best friend. Ron was married to Hermione Granger, who had passed her exceptional intelligence to Rose. Harry picked up the 2nd letter which was from Rose. Harry opened and read:

"Dear Uncle Harry. I just love it here at Hogwarts, I'm learning so much. I was sorted into Griffindor with Albus. The hat said I would have done well in Ravenclaw, but decided i'd do even better as a Griffindor. Speaking of sorting, guess who got sorted into Ravenclaw as well: That Scorpius Malfoy, Draco's son. Albus is still feeling a tad nervous but is mainly very excited. So far i've gotten top marks in all of my classes, and can do all sorts of spells. I'm not as good with offensive magic, and charms and transfigurations are more my strong point. I can make things float already and I turned a mouse into a rat just a couple of days ago. I'm out of stuff to write so i'll end the letter here. Love from Rose."

Typical Rose to be mostly interested in the academic side of things. She was just like Hermione had been, in her 1st year. He wondered if Rose too would learn to be comfortable about rule breaking as well, or if she would stay just as rule-abiding throughout her time at Hogwarts. Harry hoped that his children, and niece had a less dangerous time at Hogwarts then he and his friends had had. Harry picked up the 3rd and final letter, which he assumed was from his youngest son Albus. Harry opened Albus' letter and read:

"Dear Dad. I've been really excited about learning proper magic, and i've had fun this 1st week. I only recently got over my nerves, but now I'm quite comfortable and can perform some basic spells. I'm not nearly as good as Rose though. I got sorted into Griffindor fortunately and so did Rose. I feel sorry for the Ravenclaws because they will have to share a dorm with that Scorpius Malfoy. Well you know I'm no good with letters so I'll stop here. Love from Albus."

Harry set down the letter. It would seem that everything was well at Hogwarts, and he hoped it would stay that way. His school life had been dangerous in many parts. He was relieved that both Rose and Albus had made Griffindor, but slightly worried about what James might get up to with the invisibility cloak. Suddenly the door of Harry's office burst open and Ron Weasley came bursting in.
"Harry come quickly, no time to explain!" and he dashed out of the room. Harry followed swiftly without a word.

Chapter 1 cont:

"Ron, what is it?" Harry cried after Ron who was running at considerable pace. Harry while very fast was finding it hard to keep up.
" A break in." Ron wheezed. "An unregistered animagus, disguised as a bat. He's gone down to level nine." Harry and Ron stopped at a fireplace. It was bordered with carved oak, and at the top of the border was a fine engraving of an eye. It was an inter-ministry floo-grate only to be used in emergency to quickly get to different parts of the ministry. It was an idea thought of by Kingsley shacklebolt shortly after the defeat of lord Voldermort. The eye engraving was in honor of the deceased Alastor Moody, one of the greatest auors ever seen. Not taking any time to admire the fine carpentry Harry and Ron took a hand full of glittering green floo powder from a pot on the mantelpiece. Ron stepped in to the grate threw his powder down and spoke very clearly: "Level 9." He disappeared as bright green flames engulfed him and when they had died down, he was gone. Harry too stepped into the grate, dropped his floo powder and said.
"Level 9." The fire engulfed him and Harry closed his eyes tight shut so no dusk got into his eyes. He was spinning faster and faster, he opened his eyes a bit and glimpsed ministry grates rushing past. He saw the level 9 grate and flung himself out. Ron was waiting
"This way." Said Ron, and he ran off, Harry following. He could here bangs and cracks coming from nearby. They turned a corner and saw a ministry official backing out of the courtroom, a beam of red light shooting from his wand. The two friends rushed inside, this time Harry taking the lead. Inside the courtroom was pandemonium. about ten Wizards and witches were running about the room firing spells upon a single wizard in the center of the courtroom. He was dressed in tattered red and black robes, and had pale skin and short bristly black hair. He waved his wand, shouted
"occasum septotum." and with a sound like a gunshot seven ministry wizards were knocked of their feet.
"Vulnepus." Cried Harry.
"Tentatium." Yelled Ron. The wizard was clearly unaware of the new arrivals and as such was knocked off his feet by the force of the two spells. He swiftly recovered retaliated with a massive sweep of his wand, that deflected several spells from ministry and also set Harry and Ron flying backwards.
"Ledo ac vigorum." Said Harry, causing a large gash across the wizards chest and reviving the minsistry wizards.
"God this guy is powerful." Said Ron over the noise while firing a stunner at the dark wizard. "How the hell is he taking on 12 wizards?"
"He cast some sort of curse on us." Cried a nearby ministry official. "Had him on the ground and cornered we did, but then he muttered something. We've had terrible reactions for about five minutes." Suddenly the evil wizard transformed into a large bat and flew off. Harry and Ron were quick on his tail, and exited the room just in time. Transforming back into a human the unknown wizard shot a bolt of light at the courtroom entrance, getting rid of all traces of the door. In its place was a blank wall. Morphing back into a bat he flew off again, down a corridor and through a door. A door which Harry had hoped he would never see again. The door to the department of mysteries.
The pair of them rushed through the door. Harry hated that place because 21 years ago his godfather Sirius black had died here. However he didn't hesitate as it was very important this wizard was defeated, identified and taken to askaban. Harry and Ron found themselves in a circular room. They waited for a second, and as they knew it would, the walls started to rotate. Ron muttered.
"Homenum revilio." And rushed to one of the doors to the left, opening it. They were inside what appeared to be simply floating in midair. The little light in the room came from model planets floating about. Suddenly a jet of purple light shot past Harry's left ear, and there was the wizard leering at them.
"Very clever finding me, hehehe." His laugh was a little snigger that made him sound every bit as horrible as he clearly was.
"What's your name.?" Inquired Harry sternly his wand pointed at the man.
" No harm in that I suppose as you won't be live for long now. I'm Valdus nastix. An' your 'arry Potter, an Ron Weasley."
"Correct." Said Ron. "Now feel the wrath of two highly trained aurors. Maxus invados." He shouted, but Valdus blocked it with a vicious wave of his wand. The fight continued spell after spell was cast, but Valdus either blocked or dodged. He ran through another door and Harry and Ron followed. It was the room Harry had most been dreading: The veil room. It was here that his godfather had been murdered 21 years ago, knocked through the portal between life an death, by a stun.

silver veil feedback Chapter 2: Deaths front gate The veil room was just as it had been all those years ago. The amphitheater, and the stone dais. The arch with its veil, blowing despite the lack of wind. Ghostly voices came from the archway and from what Harry could remember the whispers where much louder. Still definitely whispers, and still just as incomprehensible but as though quite a few more voices were whispering. "Maxus invados." Came the voice of Valdus, and a bolt of purple light shot towards him. He dodged and the bolt hit the very spot he had been a split second before. Acrid smoke rose up into the air burning at Harry's throat. With a wave of his wand he sent the smoke straight into Valdus' eyes as a stream. "Retus episko." Said Valdus pointing his wand at his face and then swinging it round to fire a blast of silver light at Harry. Harry blocked and Ron sent red and blue lighting out of his wand. Valdus twirled his wand like a baton causing any lighting coming at him to whizz round him hitting the walls. "Enough!" He yelled, brandishing his wand. Harry's was stopped from casting yet another spell by what could only be a powerful spell. "Ridiculous." Said Valdus. "Can't even perform an experiment in my own department without being dueled. But it doesn't matter, I am here, where I need to be all thanks to my brain-bugging curse. Puttify. Your under it's effects right now, It's not very pleasant is it. It wasn't very pleasant. Harry's mind was dull and groggy, and this spell gave Valdus the power to take on 12 ministry wizards. "What do you mean by your department?" Said Harry coldly.
" I used to be head of department. Studying how to bridge the world of the living and the dead. And now it has come to me but I must fight to get back to my old place of study." And then Valdus did the last thing that Harry had expected. Valdus pointed his wand at the veil and shouted."Accio." The veil blew about violently the whispers became louder yet still indistinguishable, a thick white fog was emanating from the veil, a blazing image appeared in Harry's mind. It was Kings cross station. But there were no trains, just a strange squirming something underneath a bench. Harry's scar burned as it hadn't done in 19 years and the vision faded. A bat flew past him, Ron fell to the floor, and then Harry realized he was on the floor. Then it all went black and he felt no more.
