First, I have to say that I did get permission to start this thread. Thank you passerby!
Now, I'd like to start by saying that last night was the second round of 12 contestants to compete for 3 positions in the top 12. If you're following AI, you will recall that last week the 3 contestants that made it through were: Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey and Michael Sarver.
I'd like to share the critiques Erin Fox for TV Guide wrote on last night's performances:
Jasmine Murray
Did you guys check out Jasmine's mom? Those are some awesome genes there, sister. Unfortunately, those genes did not help Jasmine pick the right song. She sings "Love Song" by one of my faves, Sara Bareilles. Now, I may be a little picky about this song because I love Sara so much, but I thought Jasmine sounded terrible! Do I think Jasmine is talented? Absolutely! Does she deserve to go through? Probably -- but not after that song. Randy says there were good moments and bad moments; she was too pitchy and made too much out of a simple melody. Kara says she's all over the place, and Paula agrees. Simon says that he's disappointed because she's really commercial, but that she may be in this competition a few years too early.
Matt Giraud
Ah yes, the dueling piano player! Every time we've seen him he's been fantastic. His version of "Georgia" reminded me of Justin Timberlake! Tonight, he's singing "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay. Instantly, I know this will also be a disaster. Chris Martin can barely sing it live, how does this guy think he can do a better job? He sounds like a chipmunk! It's a train wreck, and I'm so bummed. Kara says he should stick to bluesy, soulful songs. Paula's not thrilled with the song, but gives him props for giving it his all. Simon says he turned from a cool guy in Hollywood to a wannabe pop star. (Ouch.) Randy says he's still pulling for Matt because he's one of his favorites, but he needs to stay away from the melody-simple songs.
Jeanine Vailes
Simon called her "naughty" at the audition — I wish I could remember this girl, but I have no recollection of her at all. She sings "This Love" by Maroon 5, which makes me groan. Why are these guys picking such pop-heavy, band songs that don't show off their voices? She's definitely talented underneath all the crappy singing, but I can barely watch the rest of the song. What's up with the weird dancing and the outfit from Wet Seal? Paula compliments her legs (and nothing else) before passing it off to Simon, who says it was painful and the wrong song. Randy says the best part was when it was over (ha). Kara says it's overdone and at the end of the judges' critique, adds that she does not deserve to go through. Duh.
Nick Mitchell aka Norman Gentle
He kinda wins me over during his intro by admitting he knows he'll never be Justin Timberlake, and that's not what he's going for anyway... then he begins to sing and my jaw drops. He belts out his standard Dreamgirls anthem "And I'm Telling You" and works the stage like... like... I'm sorry, there are just no words. Simon says he hopes he speaks for America when he says he's praying Nick/Norman doesn't get through until next week. Norman then proceeds to call Simon "Sassy Pants." Randy says it was one of the most entertaining numbers in the show's history. Kara says at least he's memorable and not a terrible singer. Paula says singers come in different shapes, sizes, styles and that he's a true performer. She doesn't know if he belongs here, but that he's a lot of fun. OMG, could he actually make it to the next round? And yes, he did give a shout out to Neil Patrick Harris, who was sitting in the audience. "Doogie!"
Allison Iraheta
Live shows are rough... Allison's brief interview with Ryan before her intro-tape is but one example. Awkward small talk is not gonna help this youngun' make it to the next round. Luckily, her version of "Alone" by Heart is freakin' awesome. She's a fun little rocker chick who totally works this song! Go girl. Randy says she's 16 and "blew it outta the water." Kara says that Allison doesn't have to worry about if she's good or not: She's good. She just needs to get over her last bit of stage fright. (What stage fright?) Paula thinks she could sing the telephone book, while Simon said she's the best in this group by a mile.
Kris Allen
Chris seems like a sweet guy, and very talented. He sings "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson, which seems like a weird choice to me. Like Matt, I can tell he's more talented than his song choice reveals. But given his competition tonight, he did a decent job — he even seems like his confidence is much higher than his audition. Kara says the end of the song was much better than the beginning, but he chose the wrong song. Paula disagrees and says he nailed it and was charming. Simon agrees with Paula and says he made an effort, and was proud that he "gave it a go." Randy says that he was worried Chris wouldn't be able to perform well without his guitar, but that he proved himself tonight.
Megan Corkery
This is going to be interesting. We've seen nothing about Megan since her fun and funky audition. Now she's added "Joy" as her middle name and has wavy hair. What does it all mean? (P.S. How amazingly gorgeous is she?) She sings "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae and begins the song with some silly and awkward hip shaking. Oh jeez, stop the hips! Her singing is all over the place... just like those crazy hips. I love her because she's different, but wow, that was inconsistent — cool in some places and awful in others. Paula says she picked the right song, she's beautiful, she's hip, etc. Whaa??? Simon says she was good in the beginning but it got rougher in the end because she got overexcited. Randy says she did a nice job, while Kara says she could be really successful as a package artist.
Matt Breitzke
Aw, we love Matt the welder! He sings Tonic's "If You Could Only See" and sounds pretty darn good. He doesn't seem to have the insane nerves that the other guys have had. But he's a little boring at the microphone... or maybe it's that he seems too relaxed? I'm not sure. I just don't think it's enough to go through to the next round. Tear. Simon says he really likes Matt but he hated that song. Randy says that it is a good song but his performance was boring. Kara says it didn't show his voice off and the performance fell flat, while Paula says he has a great voice.
Jesse Langseth
Man, her press photo is gorgeous! What's up with all the hot single moms in this competition? Is this the year of the MILF on Idol? Back to the singing — she picks "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes for her performance, and I'm scared. I like her, but can she pull this off? She definitely has the vibe and voice for the song, but I'm not sure if America will embrace that style. Randy says it was OK, but it didn't show who she was. Kara says she took some risks and looks great, while Paula found her captivating through the entire process. Simon disagrees and finds her forgettable and "too cool for school." Really? I don't agree at all.
Kai Kalama
I love this guy and hope he brings it. He goes the retro, soul route with "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted." I think he could do really amazing things if he gets through to the next round. Will he make it? Eh... seemed too boring. Kara says he had some pitch issues but that he gave it his all. She wants to see him be more contemporary. Paula says he's been holding back and is actually a performer. Simon says it was corny and old fashioned. Randy says his performance was way too safe.
Mishavonna Henson
This is Mishavonna's second chance with Idol. She was cut during Hollywood week last year and seems determined to kick some **** this year. She sings the very ambitious "Drops of Jupiter," by Train. It starts out a little rough, but I really like her vocal tone and style. In the end, I think she could have done a lot more with this song, so I'm kinda bummed. Paula wasn't excited about her performance, though she's a fan of her voice. Simon says something about the song seeming cold and meant for a 50-year-old. Randy agrees that she feels so much older than her 18 years, while Kara wants her to loosen up.
Adam Lambert
Adam's been doing musical theater since he was 10, which could totally be his downfall. He sings the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" and it seems cool in the beginning and then becomes a little creepy to me. Is creepy the right word, or just weird? It's a weird arrangement that almost seems country until he does the screechy rocker thing at the end. I'm kinda over this guy now, and I was a fan before. Paula says she doesn't have the words to express Adam's awesomeness. Whaa??? Simon agrees with me: parts were great, and parts were excruciating. Randy says he's got it going on, but it was a bit manic. He still thinks it was the bomb, though. Kara says his vocal technique is insanely good, with an amazing range. If you say so, guys.
******** end of critique by Erin Fox ********
I'm basing my predictions (on who will be chosen tonight) on just last nights performances , and I think that the three that will be moving on are:
Allison Iraheta
Megan Corkery
Adam Lambert
I really, really, hope Nick Mitchell aka Norman Gentle doesn't advance into the top 12!
Dumbledore's Widow

Of the three contestants I thought would move on to be part of the top 12 , I got Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert right. The third contestant (and I was on the fence about him) to compete is Kris Allen.
Congratulations to them!
Next week the viewers will select three more contestants, and the judges will select three contestants as "wild cards" from the contestants the viewers did not choose.
Isn't anyone else watching AI? It's not much fun discussing this with just myself.

No, it's not just you. I watch it religiously!
I was sure that Megan was going to move. I'm desperately hoping that she will get chosen as a wild card.
I figured that Allison would go on and Adam. I liked both of those two a lot!
I'm so glad that Nick/Norman didn't pass. Simon was so funny about him. . . "I prayed for about five or six hours straight last night. I just hope that God and I are on good terms."

Yeah, I was really surprised that Megan didn't advance into the finals. I'm with you. I hope that she is one of the three wild cards chosen.
Allison is simply awesome - not too crazy about her deep pink-red hair - but she really has greats pipes! I found this video clip on youtube. I'm not sure what spanish country competition Allison was performing in, but I think the show is called
Quinceanera (literal spanish translation = 15-year old). From what I understand Allison was just 14 years old at the time and she wasn't feeling well. That's why her voice breaks during her performance! Take a listen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcWX70wL0z0The AI judges said "She's the
dark horse." I second that comment. I hope she makes it into the top 3! Barring a disaster - she just might win AI this season, and be the first hispanic American to win. But, let's wait and see ... it's still way too early in the season.
I also thought Alexis Grace's performance last week was great!
Have you noticed that so far, it's 2 girls and 4 guys? The competition is going to be really stiff. The 6 that have been chosen so far are
very good.

So apparently I'm the only one that likes Norman/Nick. I love him! He can sing, as he proved in his first audition. I just think Simon is too serious. Norman/Nick could definitely have a future in theatre though. And he could make it big.
I'm sooo over all the freaking front runners. They all bug me. Danny is only ok, he's the guy who's wife passed. I mean, he can definitely sing, he's just boring to me. The guy with the black hair and the emo swoop thing....I can't wait till he goes home. I know it probably won't be for a long time, but I really hope America gets tired of him and his ugly face and his terrible screeching. I think his name is Adam.
The girl who I think is really good is the 16 year old, I can't remember her name. She sang "How Do I Get you Alone" I think. Had red hair. She sounded really good. So I'm glad she got in. Didn't really think she would but I'm glad she did.
This may sound terrible, but I do not want the blind guy to make it. Scott. I think there are waaay better singers in the competition than him, and I hate it that it seems like he's getting the free pass for being blind. I'm not saying that he's not a good singer, because he is and he's got incredible talent for his disability, but the judges always stress that this is a singing competition. So they should give it to the singers who are better than Scott.

Just the Droobles, you nailed it! i love Norman Gentle. But i would really like Nick to sing without Norman for once just to see what he is like when he isn't in total funny/weird mode. (I have missed some episodes so he may already have sang as Nick)

I think that Nick
blew his chance last week. He belted out his standard
Dreamgirls anthem "And I'm Telling You" and worked the stage in a silly, albeit entertaining, comical way. So, I guess he was in his
Norman mode. In all honesty, I don't think he'll make it into the top 12 as a wild card. I'd be very surprised if he did!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Allison Iraheta makes it into the top 3. Allison is the girl with the maroon red color hair. She sang, "Alone" by Heart and did a fantastic job of it. That girl can sing the telephone book!
Just the Droobles
Mar 2 2009, 01:21 AM
Yeah, Norman sang as Nick at one point I believe, I think only during Group week during the Hollywood round. He also sang a "Norman" song and a "Nick" song at his original audition. So there's no doubt he can sing, but I think American Idol is looking for some goofy pop idol that people can fall in love with. And I think that's lame and I'm tired of the pop princesses and pretty girls.
Haha uuhh, I don't know any names really other than Danny, Adam, and Norman. And Norman's not around anymore. I know Scott. But I don't really have any favorites so far. All of them are "forgettable" to put it in Simon's terms.

I think that the talent is pretty good this year, but it just doesn't seem on par with last year. I dont know, some people are good, like danny goke and the red haired girl, but it just seems that there are alot of bad singers in the group. However, I really like the blind guy, i think his name is scott. Yes I know he is supposedly getting a free pass because he's blind, but I dont believe that. I mean, the guy can REALLY sing; it is cool that he is blind and that may help him a little. But being liked is part of being the American Idol, yes it's a singing competition, but lets be real...other things are important too. (AKA Tatyana can sing but she made me want to blow my brains out whenever she talked, so she is gone. THANK GOD)
Mod Edit: We're sorry, but discussions of a certain annoying female on American Idol are not allowed. She's just too obnoxious to even be mentioned and I fear the day when I have to see her again during the wild card show. NO Tatyana!

Tonight was the third round of 12 contestants competing for 3 positions in the top 12.
The 12 contestants were:
Von SmithTaylor Vaifaniua
Alex Wagner-Trugman
Arianna Afsar
Ju'Not JoynerKristen McNamaraNathaniel Marshall
Felicia BartonScott MacIntyreKendall BeardJorge NunezLil RoundsI
bolded the names of the contestants that I think did well and that the judges had positive remarks about.
Of these individuals, I believe
Von Smith and
Lil Rounds will be in the top 3 with perhaps
Ju'Not Joyner taking the 3rd place.
We'll find out who advances tomorrow night and on Thursday night we'll see singers (the judges will select from the 24 contestants that America didn't choose) vie for 3 wild card places. These 3 will round out the final 12. I'm really curious to see who the wild card contestants will be!

I love Lil Rounds! She is soo good! I definately think she will go on to the top 12. I think Arianna is so cute and id love to see her in the top twelve too but i dont think she will be

I have a feeling that the Scott MacIntyre will go on as well, and if america doesnt put him in, the judges will probably bring him back with the wildcard thing.

The third round's top 3 selected tonight are:
Lil Rounds
Scott MacIntryre
Jorge Nunez
The 3 Wild Card positions will be filled from the contestants that were chosen from a select group tonight. They are:
Von Smith
Jasmine Murray
Ricky Braddy
Megan Corkery
Tatiana Del Toro
Matt Giraud
Jesse Langseth
Anoop Desai
These contestants will "
sing for their supper" tomorrow night.

Good luck!
Before I sign off, I want to say congrats to Lil, Scott and Jorge, and I also want to say what were the judges thinking (or smoking) when they selected TATIANA as a contender for one of the wild card places??!!
Just the Droobles
Mar 5 2009, 03:09 AM
NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY?!?!?!?!?!
Yeah my caps is on....
What are they thinking?!?! If they wanted ratings with a stupid crazy person they should have put Norman through! Ugh. I am so upset she's in the Wild Card group. Seriously.
Congrats to Jorge and Lil!!! Scott...whatever.
I really like Anoop. I hope he goes through. He's not really unique voice wise (other than he's really good) but I really like him

Other people...um, I don't know names but I think I remember that blonde girl being good. I think she's Megan. Other than that, I don't really care who goes through. As long as it's not Tatiana!!!!

Mar 5 2009, 04:26 AM
UGH!!! I want to know why in the world the judges chose Tatyana!!! There is no way she is going to get a spot (If she does, I'm boycotting the show!

). I haven't talked to ANYONE that she doesn't bug the crap out of! The judges should have realized this and gave someone that actually has a chance to make it through to the top 12 the opportunity. We're going to have to listen to her cry when she doesn't make it, all over again!!!
I really hope that Megan makes it through. I like her a lot!
Dumbledore's Widow
Mar 6 2009, 02:12 AM
I feel everyones pain about Tatiana Del Toro. That child has serious emotional problems! But even so, the judges better not place her in the top 12! If they do, it had better be because the others really bombed with their song selection and singing while she rocked it, but I doubt this will be the case!
The 8 that were chosen last night to compete for a slot in the final top 12 all have great chops. It's going to be a difficult selection, so I'm betting that personality has a lot to do with the judges' final decisions. I'm going to go out on a limb and make a
premature prediction of who I think will end up in the top 3 Wild Card places. IMO, these contestants have the best chances: Jasmine, Megan, Jesse and Anoop.
We'll see.
I just finished watching AI-the Wild Card show. You will be happy to know that the drama queen, Tatiana Del Toro did NOT make it into the final 12.
As it turns out it's the final
13. Jasmine, Megan, Matt and Anoop were chosen to move on. Jasmine proved she had a voice that "came out of nowhere", Megan is quirky and not boring, Matt showed his bluesy-side again, and Anoop showed lots of personality with his version of "My Perogative".
Congrats to these finalist.
See 'ya all next week.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the first hour of AI last night, so I can't comment on the contestants that sang during this time. But, from what I hear,
Lil Rounds and
Danny Gokey did quite well. The others who sang during the first hour were
mediocre or, so I hear.
I began watching television when
Allison Iraheta was up, and as I expected, she did well. I thought she looked a bit shabbily dressed and tired but she belted out her song. I seriously doubt she'll get the boot tonight.
Another one that did a great job was
Adam Lambert. He got a lot of praise from the judges, I'm surprised he wasn't handed a contract right then and there.
I felt so bad for
Megan Corkery. She definitely didn't choose the right song, albeit she sang it well.
The judges weren't all that favorable to
Alexis Grace even though I believe she sang well. Another thing about Alexis ... she was the 13th singer and in order to vote for her the callers had to dial #36. That could be a major snafu for Alexis. I hope not.
I also saw
Jorge Nunez' and
Anoop Desai's performances and I can't say I was impressed. I won't be surprised if one or both of these contestants get the boot tonight, but since I didn't see the first hour of AI, I can't say for sure.
I'll return later tonight with the results of AI. Until then ...

Mar 12 2009, 03:02 PM
I'll keep this short and sweet:
Ryan Seacrest called down
Jasmine Murray and
Megan Corkery and then told Megan that she was safe.
Later, after Kanye West's performance,
Jorge Nurnez and
Anoop Desai were called down. They too were in the bottom 4. After Kelly Clarkson's performance (she sang "My Life Would Suck Without You"), Jorge was sent packing.
There's a new AI Rule and it allows the judges to save the contestant that would otherwise be booted off on that given night. The judges can exercise this rule only once and it has to be unanimous among themselves. If a contestant is "saved" then 2 contestants will be eliminated the following week.
The judges did not "save" Jasmine or Jorge.
Until next week ...

Do you think the rumors are true that the final four have been picked regardless of how the voting or perfromances goes? This is a piece out of an article I read today.
For those who do not want to know.
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
The female “AI” worker told a “group of people that the last four are going to be Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Adam Lambert and Alexis Grace,” said our insider. Asked if this was opinion or actual fact, the staffer vehemently retorted, “Those ARE the people,” saying it wasn’t mere speculation.
This was reported on the NY Daily News gossip site so there is no telling how reliable it is. I think most of these "reality" shows are pre-determined so I think it is possible the four finalists have already been chosen.
Dumbledore's Widow

I'm sure that there are some finagling on a lot of the reality shows, but I just can't fathom that at this early stage that the top 4 would be selected, ...
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
especially the 4 that you mentioned - Danny, Alexis. Lil and Adam. What about Allison? I think she has a different type of voice. It's husky and reminiscent of Janis Joplin. Danny has a very good voice, but I would place Allison ahead of him. Alexis? I like her too, but since she was in the bottom last week, it just has to make you wonder if the public really likes her. But then, there is that judge's "save".
Hmmmm. It does make one wonder, but I still have to say that this could all be a rumor ... and that in and of itself could well be a public relations ploy!
Looking forward to tonight's show. I saw on the AI website that it's going to be Opry week. So, I guess it's gonna be country.
ChannelingGinny
Mar 18 2009, 02:09 AM
Can I just say... What the heck (and that's saying it VERY nicely) was Adam Lambert thinking with his version of "Ring of Fire"?!
I realize he is his own person and wants to be unique, but please, country is not lame and there are plenty of songs out there he could have done and made his own without being an outright freak. Randy Jackson said it was like Nine Inch Nails doing a country song... and he meant it in a good way. I saw it like Adam was thumbing his nose at country music, that singing country music was beneath him.
For those of you who like Adam, this is not meant to be a slam against him. He has a great voice and I think he could go pretty far, if not win it if he doesn't alienate the audience as the contestant number shrinks. I just think he needs to learn to play well with others.
Dumbledore's Widow
Mar 18 2009, 12:23 PM
I hadn't thought about it the way you described it
ChannelingGinny, but you may well be right. I would like to think that Adam meant no disrespect but he did come across rather strong. His song rendition and his attitude last night may have turned off a number of people, but I get the feeling that it isn't going to make a lick of difference. I seriously doubt he'll end up in the bottom 4, least of all be sent home packing. Besides, if that were the case, the judges would
save him.
Adam came across as very self-indulgent, almost arrogant. He needs to be a little more humble. I don't know about the rest of you, but he really, really did turn me off last night.
Now as to who I think might be in the bottom 4 tonight -
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
I think that Michael Sarver might get cut. He didn't get very good comments from the judges. Scott MacIntyre got lukewarm comments. Alexis Grace and Megan Jo MIGHT be in the bottom even though they did well. Poor Megan, I hope she gets over her flu soon, she looked absolutely miserable albeit maintaining her poise. It's going to be hard sending anyone home this week as I think that they all did well, but I get this feeling that it might be Michael. I also don't think he'll get the save from the judges.
I'd like to take the time now to edit my previous post -
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
I said that Alexis had been in the bottom 4 last week, but it was actually between Jasmine and Megan Jo. And, as we know now, Jasmine was the one sent packing. Sorry for the boo boo.
Don't forget, Carrie Underwood is the guest singer tonight!
Later!

Well I guess a rumor is a rumor. I'm glad it's a rumor, but I'm disappointed that Alexis went home. I think someone else should have gone home. Maybe Scott or Michael. I mean, I would love it if Adam would go home because what he sang really was rubbish. I'm...ew. I just don't like him or his style.
Megan. I like her and I felt bad for her and her flu. She must have been miserable. Oh well. If she can make it through with the flu, more power to her!

Alexis Grace was eliminated. Based on his performance Tuesday night, I thought for sure that
Michael Sarver would get the boot. Alexis didn't deserve to be in the bottom 3 - and neither did
Allison Iraheta for that matter! IMO, I think that Michael,
Scott MacIntyre and
Adam Lambert should have been in the bottom 3. Adam's rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" was an abomination!

I know that people would have been shocked to see Adam in the bottom 3, but nothing would have given me more pleasure than to see him
s-w-e-a-t! And, when they sent one of the 3 back to join the others, Scott would have been the one to go. Can you imagine the look on Adam's face when Scott was escorted off the middle of the stage? He would have wet his tight fitting pants! (ahem!)
All sarcasm (on Adam) aside, I would have loved to see Alexis be a part of the top ten. She then would go on the summer tour. Instead we get to see Michael. Sorry Mike!
That's how I feel.
I heard that next week, the contestants will be singing songs from MOTOWN! Yeah! My favorite oldies era! Until then ...
Dumbledore's Widow
Mar 26 2009, 02:19 PM
Well, it's a week later and the final 10 contestants sang Motown tunes last night. (AI was moved to Wednesday and Thursday nights this week.)
I find it interesting that the judges are stressing to the contestants to "
make it your own". I guess that the "
deal breaker" is to be original, this way the contestant will stand out. Last night the "
make it your own" applied to the majority of the contestants, but there were a handful of them that didn't do well.
For example,
Megan Joy, who sang "For Once In My Life", chose the wrong song to work with. She has a great jazzy voice but last night's performance was excruciating to watch.
Michael Sarver, who sang "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", also received poor comments from the judges. So, I'm thinking these two contestants will be in the bottom 3. I think that
Scott MacIntyre, who sang "You Can't Hurry Love" while playing the piano, will be joining Megan and Michael.
IMO, it will come down between Megan and Michael and I think Megan will be sent home. I also don't think that the judges will
save her.
p.s. I have to say that to me, Adam Lambert redeemed himself last night with his rendition of "Tracks of My Tears". He was fantastic! He got a standing ovation from Smokey Robinson and Paula, and even from Kara, who stated she seldom stands up after a performance. I also have to add that Adam looked pretty darn cute

I love Adam's voice, it gives me goosebumps!
I even liked his performance last week, but then I'm strange like that. I love his look...he looked cute last night but I like the 'him' look too. If he doesn't win the whole thing...well something is wrong.
I'll watch it properly when the show is aired tonight in the UK.

Adam actually surprised me. I only saw his performance cause I was busy watching other shows, but I was pleasantly surprised. I still don't like him...he still looked clownish in that suit cause he has greaser hair and girly earrings and he was wearing mascara, but he sounded pretty good. So it's good to know that he can actually come out and sing and not have some kind of creepy relationship with the mic and a Johnny Cash song....

Well, I was wrong about Megan being in the bottom 3 and being the one to be eliminated. I think she was a bit shocked as well judging by her expression. I did predict that Scott and Michael would be in the bottom 3, but I was
really surprised to see
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
Matt in the bottom 3. I thought his rendition of "Let's Get It On", one of my favorite Marvin Gaye songs, was very well performed. But, as I have long ago figured out, America is
fickle when it comes to voting for an AI! When Ryan announced that one of the three would be going back to the couches (i.e. safe), I was surprised that it wasn't Matt.
I wasn't the least bit surprised that the judges didn't use the
save on Michael. I really think that Michael should have left last week instead of Alexis and besides, the judges are holding on to that "save" for (if and when) Adam, Lil and maybe Allison are in jeopardy of being booted off the show. Just my opinion of course.
So, now we're down to 9 contestants. Until next week,

Michael was definitely the right person to go. Did you here that he has decided to pursue a career in the music industry despite his placing in the contest. Hmm...I guess someone will buy his cds! I don't get why Matt was in the bottom, I thought he gave one of the strongest peformances, along with Adam and Alison (I can't believe that girl is so youg!)
I keep changing my mind about who I think will be the overall winner. Today, I'd like it to be Alison....who knows!
Dumbledore's Widow
Mar 29 2009, 03:03 PM
It doesn't surprise me to hear that Michael plans to pursue a career in music. It seems to me that many of the the top ten contestants from past seasons have been known to do this. I hope that Alexis - even though she didn't place in the top ten - pursues a singing career. She really has a great voice, much better than Megan Joy's IMO.
I tend to vacillate as to who I
think will win AI this season, and also as to who I
want to win. Sometimes I think the winner will be between Danny and Adam and then I feel like Allison will be in the top two. I would love to see Allison take the prize though. She has this
smokey, husky edge to her voice that is simply awesome. I don't think Allison's age should make any difference, after all Jordin Sparks (6th AI winner) was 16 when she won AI.
Well, it's still a little early in the competition for me to choose the next AI. There have been surprises in the past seasons, like when Tamyra Gray (Season 1), Jennifer Hudson, LaToya London (both from Season 3) and Chris Daughtry (Season 5) were eliminated too soon. And, there have been times when the winning contestant showed us that they
had more up their sleeve and it was totally unexpected, like when Season 1's Justin Guarini was expected to be the AI winner but Kelly Clarkson just blew us away with her vocals.
Many say that AI is rigged, but I don't think that it is. I mean, look at who won Season 5 AI!

If it were rigged, Daughtry would have won!
Has anyone heard what genre of music the top 9 will perform this week? I hope that Matt, Allison, Adam, Lil, Kris and Danny remain in the competition ... I'm not crazy about Megan Joy, Scott or Anoop. We'll see.

I like Megan, but she seems to be a bit boring.
Well, again, I only was able to catch the last 2 performances.
I REALLY with that Adam would QUIT screaming in his performances. It's not cool, it doesn't sound good, and he looks unattractive doing it. Or all the time. But I find him really obnoxious. Except last week I actually liked him, and I think if he would do that more often he could get more people to fall in love with him.
I liked Kris' performance a lot.

Anoop was kind of boring. Forgettable. Typical.
Megan...good voice, but she lacks personality. Bottom 3.
I don't like Danny. He's a good singer, but he doesn't interest me.
I think Allison really has talent. She'll make it very far.
Scott is boring. He's not on the level as everyone else. Bottom 3.
Matt...not original with the Fray song. Good singer, but he kinda bored me. Bottom 3.
Lil has the power voice but I don't think the market is looking for someone like her.
Adam...no. *earplugs*
Kris. I think I've picked him as my favorite. But he won't last.
That was just from the recap....

I watched NCIS the first hour and switched over to AI during the commercials. So, I missed some of the performances and/or the critiques. But, I did get just enough on most of the performances to comment on them.
First up was Anoop, and from the critiques, I think he had a lackluster performance.
Megan Joy chose the wrong song and was boring. She's also getting a bit cocky IMO.
Danny apparently did well.
Allison sang well (and strummed a guitar) but the judges disliked her "look", as did I. Her spike hair do and the outfit she wore were silly. It sort of reminded me of Pat Benatar's '80s video "Love is a Battlefield" ~ check out the video at about 3:09:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9J9rTZJBmwWell, maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but I do think Allison tried a bit too hard by dressing the way she did.

But, I do like her and I hope she isn't in the bottom 3!
Scott also got a new hair style ~ curlier. I'm not sure if I like it or not. But, I have to agree, he is getting a little boring. But the judges liked his performance.
I totally missed Matt's performance and the judge's critiques, so I can't comment.
Lil looked beautiful in that evening dress, but the judges have been disappointed with her choice of song the past couple of weeks. But, she sang well, and I think she'll be safe tomorrow night.
Adam sang a lame song, I never did like that song! But, he gave it his twist and the judges liked it. He's gonna be safe tomorrow night. I like the fact that he didn't go back to the goth look. I sort of like him a little "cleaned up".
I liked Kris' performance, he sounded great. The judges liked his originality, so I think he'll be safe tomorrow night.
So, who do I think will get the lowest number of votes?
I've a feeling Anoop, Megan, Scott and maybe Matt (?) will be in the bottom.
I hope that Megan goes home, she's over due.

Oh good grief! What is America thinking? So, she looked frumpy in that silly outfit, but is that reason enough to place Allison in the bottom 3?!

Hopefully she won't be in the bottom next week!
I was right about Megan being the one to leave last night. That Bob Marley song she sang (sang?) was really bad. She has no rhythm at all, her arms flailed about like she was a small bird getting ready to fly!

I still wish she had been eliminated instead of Alexis!
As for Anoop ... also in the bottom 3 ... runner-up to Megan ... he is going to have to take the judges advice as to the style of music his voice is best suited. He's trying to be someone he isn't. If he continues this stubborn streak, he'll be the next one to leave.
The 8 contestants will be singing songs from the year they were born next week. I'm looking forward to see what their selections are. After all, it's all about song choice ~ and how you wear your hair and dress!
P.S. I enjoyed the guest performances last evening. David Cook performed his new hit song, "Come Back to Me", and I really enjoyed it. His first album has gone platinum. Also performing last evening was Lady GaGa who performed, "Poker Face". It was an interesting performance and choreograhy. Lady GaGa wore a "zippered" eye patch:
http://www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,6933,00.html#6_0She's weird ... but aren't a lot of performers these days?

I was very glad Meagan went home. She has that weird sound in her voice that was cool at first, but she has no differences in anything she does. It all sounds the same when she sings, and last night was just horrible. She flailed around and sounded like a sheep. I agree that she is cocky, talking about how her fans will vote for her. I mean come on, she way overstayed her welcome. Also, what was wrong with her at the elimination show? She was like wigging out or something, when she flew like a bird to the bottom 3??? What was that?
Anyway, she's gone (thankfully) and now to focus on the people who still have a shot of winning. I thought Scott was better, but I agree with everyone else, he's getting old. Anoop just isn't good enough to win...Lil needs to be careful, because she started off so good in the first few weeks and she just hasn't improved, and this show is all about improvement. Matt is in trouble because him and kris have similar styles, but kris is just better so matts gotta step it up. Allison has had a few sub par weeks, but she can definitely sing, so if she just picks a good song she'll be fine. Danny was good, and he did a good job with the arrangement of that song as well. Adam is just incredible, i disagree with what alot of people on here are saying about him. I mean, he has every range possible, the dude is awesome. He reminds of Steven Tyler in Dream On when he hits that really high note, and he is far and away the best in the competition right now. It's his to lose right now, all he has to do is keep going out and wowing us.
Just the Droobles
Apr 8 2009, 01:06 AM
Except...in my opinion, the difference between Adam and Steven Tyler is that Steven Tyler sounded good when he hit those notes. Adam just...screams. I really think his voice is unbearable when he does that. He does have great talent, but he needs to settle down. And, I think if she showed his softer side more often, he could make people fall in love with him a lot faster.
I'm tired of Danny. I thought the beginning of his performance was gross...but he finished nicely. However, I feel like he's the same every week. Just like Anoop. Boring!!
Kris...I wonder if his guitar was on...? It just looked like a fun prop. But I still love him. I think he's great. I like his style, but he's not the only one of his kind, so that may be a problem for him later on.
Oh dear...Lil is so brave. We'll see how this goes. Nope. I think it was a bad choice. Choosing songs by Tina and the other bombshells are American Idol suicide in my opinion. She sounds good, but you really can't redo "What's Love Got to Do With It" and expect good feedback. It's just such a strong song.

I loooove this song Anoop is singing. I think he really did well. I'm glad he got away from the really pop-y stuff. However, I think it's too late for him to save himself.
Well this is a side of Scott I haven't seen. I still think his vocals aren't as strong as some others, but he's still pretty good.
ha-HA! I'm two years older than Allison! Wow. That's weird. What am I doing on this site? She has tremendous talent. I don't think it matters if she wins or not, she's gonna get signed. So...I might as well not even give feedback cause she's too awesome.
Matt. Eh. I've already forgotten what he sang.
Oh look! Adam did just as I asked.

And he gave a very good performance. I'm actually glad that he laid his hair back down. It looks better than his weird pompadour thing.

The bottom 3 contestants were:
Anoop - I think he did well the evening before but I do believe that he is losing his fan base. Simon said he was a "yo-yo" performer, and I tend to agree. Anoop is up one week and down the next as far as song choices. People are beginning to see that Anoop is NOT the next American Idol.
Scott - I've always felt that he was in the bottom half of the remaining contestants, so I wasn't surprised to see him in the bottom 3.
Lil - She is another one that I'm not surprised to see in the bottom 3. IMO, her fans are shifting over to other contestants.
Lil was sent back to safety so that left Anoop and Scott as the ones who received the lowest number of votes. The one with the lowest number of votes was Scott and after the judges deliberated, they were split as to whether or not to "save" him, he was sent packing.
To Scott, I say good luck and continue following your dream.
No information as to what the top 7 will be singing next week. Here are the remaining 7:
Adam
Allison
Anoop
Danny
Kris
Lil
Matt

I was thinking the same thing. How do you follow such a powerful singer and not look bad. She could have done the best performance of the night and still sounded bad compared to Tina Turner. It would be like following up Celine Dion's Titanic them. No one can perform at their level.

The top 7 contestants sang last evening to tunes from the movies with Quentin Tarrantino as their mentor.
Last night the judges teamed up to give their critiques in order to avoid going overtime and into the next hour. They still went over, but not by much.
Allison, Adam and Anoop and Danny got good reviews from the judges.
Matt, Kris and Lil didn't get the warm and fuzzies from the judges.
As for who I think might be in the bottom ~ being that the average American voter is
fickle to say the least ~ I think that Matt, Lil and Anoop will be in the bottom. I just hope Allison is safe tonight. That poor kid has been in the bottom twice ~ two times too many as far as I'm concerned!
This might be the end of the line for either Matt or Anoop.
Let's see what happens!
p.s. the guest performers tonight are Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson. I'm looking forward to both performances.

Well, I was right about which contestants would be in the bottom 3. I think
Anoop was in the bottom this time despite his good performance because I feel that he is losing his fan base. He does come across a bit conceited and that doesn't help.
Lil was in the bottom because she just isn't
wowing us like she did during the auditions. She seems to keep choosing the wrong songs. IMO,
Matt is also losing his fan base and is getting a little boring.
After Anoop was sent back to the couches (he was safe), it came down to between Lil and Matt and Matt was the one with the lowest number of votes. Matt would have gotten the boot but the judges "saved" him. This means he'll return next week and TWO contestants will be eliminated next Wednesday. The judges will no longer be able to "save" a contestant from being sent home, as the "save" could only be used once and only up to the top 5. Personally, I wish they had not used the "save" on Matt. Should
Allison or
Kris be in the bottom 2 next week ~ well, he or she will get sent home because the judges won't be able to "save" them. I hope that this doesn't happen! I'm hoping that the same 3 people that were in the bottom this week will be elilminated during the next 3 weeks.

Here I am again,
talking to myself! (I'm reminded of Billy Idol's hit song, "Dancing with Myself"). Take a listen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DONbY9wd6vUSo now, I'll just hum the song while I type this post.
Last evening,
Lil got the boot in the first 10 minutes of the show. I figured that she would be one of the two that would be leaving the competition. The second contestant to get eliminated was
Anoop, I wasn't surprised.
However I was disappointed to see
Allison in the bottom 3 ~ again! This is the 3rd (maybe 4th!) time that she has been in the bottom. So, I can see the
handwriting on the wall for her next week. I just get this feeling that she, or maybe
Matt, will leave us next week. Call it a "gut feeling". We'll wait and see.
I believe that the Top 3 will be:
Adam,
Danny and
Kris. It's still too early for me to predict who I think will win the competition and who will place 2nd or 3rd.
No word as to what theme the Top 5 will be singing next week ~ what's left? The judges choice? Maybe.
I will return next week ... if nothing more than to
talk to myself again!

*doo doodoo Doooooo!!!!* Me to the rescue!
I didn't get to watch it last night, but I read the results in our local paper today. I wasn't really surprised that Lil and Anoop went home. They were both pretty boring and predictable, and since both of them had been in the danger zone for quite some time, it's about time they left anyway.
Allison was in the bottom?!?!? What the heck?? Am I hearing something different than America is? I think American Idol needs to find someone new and different, someone who's got a new sound. That's why I don't like Danny. He's boring and nothing special in my eyes. Kris is really good and I think he could make it if he were to record a really good song, but he also could end up being a lot like the single dudes out right now such as Jason Mraz. I think Allison and Adam (even though I don't like him) have the most to offer as a new artist. I won't be surprised if Adam wins, and maybe American Idol needs some crazy dude like that to win. Switch it up a bit from the typical la-dee-da singers.

Adam was actually in the bottom 3 with
Matt and
Kris!

And, later when Kris was sent to safety, Adam was in the bottom 2 with Matt. Matt was the one eliminated last night. It's a little sad to see a contestant leave the evening after he (or she) has sung a song from their preferred genre. But, of the 5, I think that Matt had reached the end of the road.
Next weeks theme is Rock 'n Roll and since this is
Allison's genre, I'm hoping she doesn't get the boot!

I really do like her raspy, husky singing voice. And, she's so sweet, so unassuming. I'll keep my fingers crossed that she does well.
The Top Four are: Allison, Adam,
Danny and Kris.
Since Adam was in the bottom 2 this week, I really don't even want to guess as to who I feel might be the one to leave the competition next week. They are all good. I've a feeling that Adam's fan base may have been really surprised to see him in the bottom, and they will probably start dialing furiously soon after next weeks show. I'm hoping Allison's fans keep her in the running and I wish the same for Kris. To be honest, I'm finding that I don't care much for Danny. To me, he's a bit boring, but I realize he's really popular.
I'll be tuning in next week to see who makes it into the Top 3!

Did anyone actually like their performance of "Schools Out" last night? I know that was not really their styles but come on, at least give it a try. It is suppose to be hard and edgy and all I heard were them singing, it is hard to describe, maybe smoothe and flowing. The theme was Rock and they had Slash playing for them. It should have been edgy not pretty. They were not singing some sped up ballad. It was pitiful.
And Paula's performance was horrible. Can we at least try to make it seem like you are not lip syncing? Her singing was perfect. Not once did I hear any slight deviation in her tone that you would expect with all the choreographed moves she was doing. To make such a big deal of her performing for the first time on Idol and then to have a LipSync performance was real pitiful. It just makes her look like a weak performer. The contestants are singing live. Why should Paula get a pass on doing the same? Gwen Stefani's performance was not perfect but at least she was really singing live.
Edit:
I came across
this article today so my thoughts on Abdul's Lip Syncing were right on.

Allison is gone!
I think she rocked the stage last week. But, I knew deep in my heart that her days were numbered. For crying out loud, she seemed to ALWAYS be in the bottom 3!
I knew that she was the one to be eliminated as soon as Kris was told he was safe because I thought that it would be down to between her and him. I think that she did better than Kris and since Simon gave Kris some negative, almost mean, comments after his solo performance, I figured that he got by on the sympathy vote. Don't get me wrong. I like Kris. But, between him and Allison, I liked her more.
Danny did some serious
screeching in his solo performance, but that wasn't going to have his adoring public keep them from voting for him. It's gotten to the point where I just don't care for him. Can't put my finger on the reason why. Presumably he is a nice guy. But ... I just don't care much for him.
Adam is (and has been with a couple of exceptions IMO) on top of his game. If he continues on this path, he'll be the winner. I like him. I wasn't much of a fan of his in the beginning, but if it comes down to between him and Danny ... guess who I think should win?
So, to re-cap:
Allison is gone!
The top 3 are Adam, Danny and Kris.
p.s. I like Paula and it pains me to say this, but I didn't care for her performance either. She should stick to being a choreographer and mentor.

I didn't watch AI this past Tuesday, I watched NCIS instead. What I would do was flip over to AI during commercials, so I saw tid bits of AI. Since Allison's departure last week, it didn't matter to me anymore.
I like Adam and I like Kris, but I'm not a fan of Danny's. Has anyone else noticed that Danny has worn different eyeglasses throughout the competition and he is always making that heart symbol with his hands against his chest? Well, that heart symbol against the chest is used in the Lens Crafters commercials.

And, here I thought he was sending his love to his dearly departed wife! It seems to me like Danny has had something going with Lens Crafters all this time. Isn't that suppose to be against the rules? Oh well, I hope he gets to keep the various eyeglasses he's worn throughtout the competition.
I did tune in on Wednesday, sort of. They can give out the results in less than 20 minutes! A half hour tops! I can live without all of the guest performances. Anyhoo, Kris and Adam are the two that will battle for the title of AI. Danny got the
heave ho! It's funny but Danny had never been in the bottom until Wednesday.
Like I said, I like Adam and I like Kris, and I have a strong feeling that Adam will walk away the strong winner next week.
Will I watch AI next week? Yeah, I think I will.

Naw I'mma put my money on Kris for now. I think that all the Danny voters, if they continue to watch and vote, will vote for Kris now that Danny is out. I've heard some Danny-fans say "I guess I'll have to vote for Kris now" so that may just push him in to the winner's circle. I think Adam will definitely have a career regardless of what happens on American Idol, and it may actually help him to not be on their contract. That way, he can make whatever music he wants and be as flamboyant as he wants and not have to worry about it.

I have to agree with you on this one Droobles! The Danny voters will probably vote for Kris even though I think Adam is the stronger performer. Kris has the cute factor and the girls all like cute guys that strum a guitar and play piano.

I LOVE KRIS!!! I hope he wins tonight! I like adam too. but whoever wins the other is gonna do just as great. But KRIS IS MY MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't jump on board the Kris
train until Allison was voted off. (I really adore Allison! I was sorry to see her leave

) But, back to Kris - I really think he is a doll. I like Adam, but there's one thing that really bothers me about him - he tends to scream/screech at some point with just about every song! Bugs the heck out of me. But, he is talented, can't deny that.
Well, I didn't watch AI last night ... I was glued to the NCIS finale! (an awesome finale at that!), but I did switch over to AI during the commercials so I got some bits and pieces of AI. I caught Kris' rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine" while at the piano and I think he did a fantastic job, as did the judges. But, I didn't get to see any more performances by either Kris or Adam so I won't even speculate as to who did better.
Wow! I
just saw Kris' performances over at www.krisallen.com ! I don't know if Simon Cowell's remarks after Kris' 2nd and 3rd performances backfired and made people vote for Kris more. It will be interesting to see the margin with which the winner wins. (I understand that only 1 million votes, out of 88 million votes, seperated Kris and Adam last week.)
Oh well, good luck to both of them!
AI will be on in about ten minutes, and I plan to watch the 2 hour show tonight.
