Chapter One

She walked into the Great Hall, her back completely straight and her eyes staring at the front of the room, not looking at anything or anyone else except for the wall.
And then she did the unthinkable: she seated herself, right in between two Slytherins at their table as if they weren’t there.
The students at the tables, who had seemed to be holding their breath, suddenly erupted into whispered chatter, causing the room to feel like it was vibrating.
Only the girl, whose eyes were fixated on whatever food from her plate she decided to grab, was silent. She barely seemed to notice that anyone was there.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron casted nervous glances at each other.
“Who is she?” Ron hissed at Hermione.
She shrugged slowly. “I heard she came from America and that she was expelled from their wizarding school. I’m sure all the rumors are pure rubbish, anyway.”
Harry shook his head. It was only the first week of school, and something weird had already happened. The girl was much too old to be a first year, she seemed like a fourth or fifth year. There had been no Sorting Hat or announcement; she had just known she was going to be a Slytherin.
The girl must have felt Harry’s eyes on the back of her head, because she jerked her head around in his direction. Her bright green eyes gave him a fierce glare, glancing at his lightning-bolt-shaped scar. The she looked back down at her plate, her blonde=streaked brown hair bouncing with every sharp movement of her head.
“Harry,” Hermione said, snapping her fingers in front of his face.
He shook himself, as if coming out of a trance. “Wha? Huh?”
“What was that about?” Ron asked, looking at the strange new girl. “That look she gave you was pure evil!”
“Ronald!” Hermione exclaimed, shooting him a “be quiet” look. “Don’t be so rude. Maybe she doesn’t like people very much!”
“ ‘Doesn’t like people’ is right, Hermione. It doesn’t look like anyone likes her, either.” Ron said, rolling his eyes.
“I don’t know, guys. She seems… different.” Harry murmured. For a moment, it looked like the girl had stopped eating, and that she was straining her ear to hear what he was going to say. But the moment ended, and Harry blinked, seeing that she had gone back to her eating.
“She’s certainly strange,” Hermione whispered, more to herself than the others.

I was going to wait and post chapter 2 after I had more comments, but I wanted to find out what I would come up with for this chapter. So here you are!!

Chapter Two

“Serena,” Hermione said suddenly, plopping a few books onto the table next to Harry’s head, startling him.
“What?” he asked, jerking his head up from his Potions book. He had almost fallen asleep on them.
“Her name is Serena.” Hermione explained.
“Uhm, how in the world would you know that?” Ron asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I heard the teachers talking. Even they think she’s pretty strange.” She shrugged. “I just don’t know what to make of--,”
Then she walked in. Her back was straight as ever, and her eyes only looked at whatever was in front of her. The library became suddenly quiet; even the students who had fallen asleep on their textbooks had woken up and were watching what she would do next.
All she did was glance around the room and then head toward the Fiction section. She grabbed a book at random and skimmed the pages, then put it back.
And then she was gone, out the door.
Just as fast as the silence had started, it ended.
“Serena…” Harry murmured under his breath, too quiet for anyone except himself to hear.
-|-

“Another failed project, Potter.” Professor Snape said as he passed back the papers.
Harry groaned as he looked at his paper; there was barely a spot where there weren’t any red marks.
“Miss Granger,” Snape said, handing Hermione her paper.
Harry peeked over to see what she had gotten. He groaned. Another perfect score.
“And Serena,” Snape said, then paused as he lay the paper down on Serena’s desk. “An even better score than Miss Granger. Very good.”
Everyone in the class gasped. Harry glanced at Serena to see her reaction, but she seemed to have barely noticed. She just stared at the ceiling, ignoring the paper on her desk and the teacher in front of her completely.
“A better score? Than… me?” Hermione asked herself incredulously, shaking her head. “But, Professor Snape,” she said, raising her hand. “I got an absolute perfect score. How in the world could she do better than me?”
Ron, behind Hermione, snickered.
“She did the extra credit.” Snape replied, almost smugly.
“Extra… credit?” Hermione asked as if Snape had been speaking a different language.
“Yes, Miss Granger. There was a 20 point bonus for anyone who wrote an extra credit report on the creator of Veritaserum potion.”
“But… but I don’t remember hearing about that.” Hermione complained, practically whining.
“I’m sorry, Miss Granger, but she did better than you.” Snape smiled, but it almost seemed like a sneer. He then came up to Harry and looked at him. “Now, Mr. Potter. Seeing as you got a zero on yet another assignment, I am giving you a study partner.” He paused, probably hoping to draw suspense. Ron and Hermione held their breath. “Your partner is someone from my House. Serena.”
Harry’s eyes grew wide. What was Snape playing at? Was he trying to make Serena hate him?
This announcement even made Serena jerk her head in Harry’s direction. Her face was set in a grimace. “Um, Professor Snape, I do believe I have a say in this.” She said, “I really don’t want a study partner.”
This was the first time anyone had heard her talk, and Harry was surprised by her voice. It was actually very unlike the rough voice he had imagined her having.
“Oh. Well, if you can give a reason why you shouldn’t help Mr. Potter, please, tell us.” Snape said.
Serena shook her head and slumped down into her seat.
Snape smiled triumphantly. “Good. Then it’s settled. Have fun studying. Class dismissed.”

Chapter Three

Harry and Serena sat at the library table, barely talking except when Harry asked her a question. They moved onto their next paper.
“Can you help me with….” Harry trailed off when he saw Serena writing her name on her paper. He glanced over her shoulder.
At the name line, she had written “Serena Slytherin”.
“Um, you don’t have to put your House name at the top of the paper, you know.” Harry explained.
“It’s-it’s not my… House name. It’s my real l-last name.” she stuttered.
“What? Really?” Harry asked, his eyebrows raising almost to his hair line.
“Yes, really. Now, what was your question?” she asked, easily avoiding any more name discussions.
Harry was stunned into silence. He didn’t even remember what he had been asking her about. This was also the first time he noticed that she wasn’t speaking British, like the rest of the Hogwarts students. “You’re from America, right?” he asked.
She gave him a sarcastic look. “No, am I really?”
“So… all those rumors about you being expelled from your American wizarding school are true?”
She grimaced, and Harry saw a little sadness in her eyes before she returned to her normal, cold self and answered: “Yeah. My parents sent me here, in hopes of ‘teaching me a lesson’ by making me spend some time away from home. Their plan didn’t work, because I hate my home and my parents.” Her back stiffened, and she turned back to her paper as if she had just said too much.
Harry didn’t want to be rude and ask about her life anymore, so he went back to his paper. They once again fell into silence.
-|-

“How did studying with Serena go?” Ron asked as Harry exited the library.
Before answering, Harry turned to wave good-bye to Serena, but she was already gone. “It was fine.” He answered absentmindedly. He was still a little confused about her.
“Did you find anything out?” Ron asked anxiously.
“Uhm…” Harry wondered if he should tell Ron or not. “Well, actually, I learned that she really was kicked out of her American wizarding school.” He murmured quickly, walking towards the common room.
“Fascinating, Harry.” Ron replied, rolling his eyes at the ceiling. “No, I mean something really interesting.”
“If I tell you, do you promise not to tell anyone?” Harry asked.
“Tell anyone what?” Hermione suddenly asked, stepping up next to Harry.
Ron jumped. “Hermione, would you please not do that anymore?”
“Sorry. Anyways… what were you telling Ron, Harry?”
Harry let out a breath. “Alright, but no telling anyone. I don’t know if she wants this getting out.” He paused and his friends nodded. “Her last name is Slytherin.” He whispered under his breath.
This stopped Hermione and Ron in their tracks.
“What?” Hermione asked the same time that Ron exclaimed, “No way!”
Harry nodded, biting his lip. “Ssh!”
“That’s… wait, you don’t think… no, she can’t be… can she?”Hermione murmured, seemingly to herself.
“What is it, Hermione?” Harry asked.
“You don’t think… she could be an heir… of Slytherin?”

Chapter Four

This stopped Harry in his tracks. “What?” he asked breathlessly, swiveling quickly around to face Hermione.
“She could be. It’s a very good possibility that she is. Her last name is Slytherin, she sat herself down at the Slytherin table, and she really seems to hate you. My guess is she is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin.” Hermione replied sheepishly.
“Hermione’s right, mate.” Ron said, immediately agreeing with her. “Which means that we should probably stay away from her. Who knows what help she’s got over in America, or maybe even here.”
Harry glared at Ron and Hermione, his eyebrows furrowing. Of course they were going to think Serena was bad; her last name was Slytherin, what had he expected?
-|-

It had been three days since that first study trip in the library, and Harry had not seen nor heard from Serena since then. They didn’t have another study session planned until tomorrow, so he hadn’t been able to talk to her there, either. Some said they had seen her wandering the upstairs hallways near the second floor. Those were, of course, only what people had thought they had seen, since no one ever really went there anymore because of Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom.
It just so happened that that day was their first trip of the year to Hogsmeade. The students in Harry’s year were walking aimlessly about the outside pavilion area. When Harry saw that Professor Snape was to be the chaperon for this trip, he grimaced, and almost went back to the Common Room. But he couldn’t miss a chance to go to Hogsmeade.
Harry looked around, craning his neck to see above the heads of the other students. Even so, he couldn’t see if Serena was coming or not.
Hermione caught him looking. “What are you doing?” she asked, raising a suspicious eyebrow.
“Just glancing around to see whose coming on the trip.” Harry answered, not looking at them.
“Everyone!” Snape shouted suddenly. The students looked at him and he continued, “Follow me.”
A cold Autumn wind blew through the air as the students began their long walk to Hogsmeade.
-|-

She felt a cold chill go up her spine as she looked down the streets and then turned the corner into dark alley. She glanced around the darkness, squinting and trying to see if anyone was really there.
Then a cloaked figure stepped out from the shadows and the voice of Lucius Malfoy came from beneath the hood. “Serena Slytherin… the Dark Lord appreciates your offer.”
-|-

Everyone was gathered around Professor Snape and Professor Flitwick, who had joined them for this trip.
“We must leave at 6 P.M.,” Flitwick said. “So everyone needs to meet here by five-forty-five.” He paused, smiled, and said: “Have fun.”
Harry was headed for Honeyduke’s Sweetshop to buy a piece of caramel fudge when he spotted a movement near one of the alleys around the corner.
The movement intrigued him and after Hermione and Ron had entered the shop, he went towards it, looking behind him to make sure no one was following him.
The first thing he saw as he peeked into the darkness was two dark figures: one was older and tall, while the other was a bit younger and curvier.
Lucius Malfoy’s voice said, “Serena Slytherin… the Dark Lord appreciates your offer.”
Harry held his breath. Serena, Lucius, and Voldemort… were… working together? He shook his head and realized that he should have listened to Ron and Hermione.
“Malfoy. I never would have guessed that Voldemort would send you to do his dirty work,” Serena’s sarcastic voice replied.
“Hold your tongue!” Lucius exclaimed. “Lumos.” He told his wand, and the dark alley brightened so Harry could now see both Serena and Malfoy. “Now, Miss Slytherin, you know the plan?”
“Yes, sir.” Serena replied. “But, Malfoy, you know… about that offer… I really don’t approve of the plan any more, so I withdraw my services. Please send Voldemort my deepest regrets.”
“You dare to defy him?” Malfoy shouted, pointing his wand at her. “Crucio!”
-|-

Serena felt the worst of pains burn through her body like a wildfire. It crushed her lungs and she staggered backwards, hitting the wall. Her body jumped with convulsions, her eyes white as they rolled backwards into her skull. She screamed, over and over, knowing no one could hear her over Malfoy’s silence charms.
And then it was over.
She groaned as she moved her head, starting to shout curses at Malfoy, but he was already gone. Instead, she was peering into a pair of bright green eyes.

Intense!! smile.gif Anyways, I don't know what would be considered PG13 so I kept it on the safe side when describing the Cruciatus Curse.

Chapter Five

Serena's mind whirled as she looked into those bright green eyes, and she felt herself slowly slipping into the darkness again.

::FLASHBACK::

Eleven-year-old Serena ran down the stairs and burst into the kitchen.
“Mom!” she exclaimed, turning towards the oven, hoping she was getting out the pancake batter so she could make her amazing blueberry pancakes. Her mother, Katrina Slytherin, and her father, Thomas Slytherin, were both standing at the island in front of the oven; her mother was clutching at the white marble tabletop while her father was murmuring in her ear about something. Katrina had a surprisingly scared face on, but it was half-hidden by the curtain of hair that surrounded her pale face. Thomas kept running his long fingers through his dirty blonde hair.
“What’s wrong?” Serena asked her mother, confused. Her mother had never looked so scared or nervous before, and she was squeezing the marble on the island so hard that her knuckles were white.
Katrina’s bright green eyes glanced at her daughter and her face slackened a bit. “Nothing, dear.” She replied.
But Serena was smarter than that. “Then why do you look so scared? And why are you whispering?”
“Serena, please, we’re talking about… important… things. Go back upstairs for a while, your dad and I are busy at the moment.” She said, looking nervously at her husband.
“He won’t be here till later, Katrina.” Thomas said, squeezing his wife’s shoulder while glancing anxiously in the direction of the front door.
“But how do we know?” Katrina asked shakily, burying her face in her hands.
“Who’s coming?” Serena asked. “Why are you scared? Is he bad? I’m not a child, anymore, you can tell me.”
“Serena, please--,”
But Thomas didn’t get to finish his sentence.
The glass back door of the house shattered into a thousand tiny fragments, and then the door flew off its hinges and crashed into n inside wall of the house. Three tall, manly figures in dark cloaks walked in, their faces covered by metal masks.
One of them took their wand and touched the tip of it to their mask and dragged it away, the mask becoming smoke as it came off. Behind the mask was a man’s face, with cruel eyes and pale skin, white-blonde hair surrounding it. The other two people standing in the doorway followed the man as he stepped over the remains of the doorframe and into the house.
Serena felt herself be shoved behind the island, out of sight of the men who had entered.
“Lucius Malfoy,” Thomas said, a cold, biting edge to his words, “It’s been a while since we last saw each other, hasn’t it?”
“Yes, it has. Maybe it’s almost been too long.” The Lucius man responded. His eyes searched the kitchen, landing once on Katrina and then coming back to Thomas, whose chocolate-brown eyes stared him down.
Serena crawled silently out from behind the island where she had been cowering and stared up at the man.
Lucius’s eyes wandered down to the spot where Serena was sitting on her hands and knees.
“This must be your daughter, Serena!” Lucius said, smiling.
“Serena!” Katrina exclaimed, swiveling around to look for her daughter.
But she wasn’t there. Instead, she was standing in front of her parents, looking at Lucius and the men in the dark cloaks standing around him.
“Little Serena Slytherin,” Lucius murmured. “I have a job for you: when you’re older, and sent to the Hogwarts school in England, there is someone there who I would like you to keep an eye on. His name is Harry Potter. When the time comes, I need you to follow the instructions that are sent to you.”
“What?” Thomas exploded, shoving his way around Serena. “Are you insane? Having an heir of Slytherin go to Hogwarts and try to live a normal life without any of the students there guessing who she is? That would be too dangerous. And having her keep an eye on the famous Boy Who Lived? That’s next to insane!”
“But, Father, I believe I can do it.” Serena huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. Her parents never gave her any credit and they were always holding her back. She was supposed to go to Hogwarts this year, and she had even received her letter. But they wouldn’t allow it, saying it was too dangerous for someone with the last name of Slytherin to even go near the wizarding community. There were some who would try to hurt her, they said, maybe even kill her.
“You see, Thomas? The girl says she can do it.” Lucius said, an evil smile playing about his lips.
Serena didn’t see the evil in Lucius’ face, so she said, “I will do it.”
Katrina said, “Seren--,”
“No, Mother, I can do this.” Serena looked again at Lucius and nodded her head. “I accept your offer.”
Lucius laughed. “Good, my child, very good. I must go alert the Dark Lord.”
And the three men departed, leaving the Slytherin family staring blankly at the spot where the door used to be.
-|-
4 Years Later
Serena packed the rest of her things into her rolling suitcase.
She was all ready: her parents were asleep, and she was to catch the next train, which would take her to a boat that would go across the ocean to England. She knew that disobeying her parents would have dreadful consequences, and she also knew that joining Hogwarts four years after she was supposed to was a bad idea, but she could care less. Voldemort would soon discover that she hadn’t done what she had offered to do and would be very, very angry.
Serena had been sneaking out ever since she was 13. She already had all of her books, supplies, and clothes she would need for Hogwarts. She had done a lot of searching and had learned where the best wandmakers were in America, and had made sure she had visited them so she could find her wand. Serena had everything planned.
The downstairs clock chime 11 and she grabbed her suitcase.

::END FLASHBACK::

Serena stared into the bright green eyes of Harry Potter as she remembered these things, all leading up to this moment. She had never meant to change her mind about helping Voldemort. But after meeting Harry, she felt that something had surprisingly clicked between them; he was no longer her enemy, her prey. He was almost a friend.
“I’m so sorry…” she sobbed before jumping up and running away from Harry.

It's been a while, hasn't it?? Anyways, here's chapter six!! Enjoy!!

Chapter Six

“Serena!” Harry called as he ran through the crowd after her, catching random glimpses of her brown hair swishing back and forth as she ran. “Serena, slow down!” Harry could barely find his way through the huge groups of people that were hanging around the streets of Hogsmeade. He had bumped into at least three dozen people before finding Serena standing by the gate that surrounded the Shrieking Shack.
“Hey, Serena.” Harry gasped, out of breath from running so hard. “Serena, if you think I’m mad, I… I’m not. I’m just… really confused, and I know it’s because I have absolutely no idea what’s going on. So, maybe you could....” he stopped when he saw that Serena’s shoulders were heaving up and down. “Are you ok?” he whispered before realizing that that was a really dumb question.
Her head jerked up and she turned to look at him. Her hair was knotted from her running so fast and her face was decorated with watery tear marks. Then she looked back down again.
Harry took a deep breath and stepped a few feet closer to her. “Serena? Will you please tell me what happened? Why were you talking to Malfoy about some ‘deal’ with Voldemort? Were you working for him?”
“Just shut up, Harry. Leave me alone. Go back to your friends and stop asking me questions, ok? I don’t need this right now. Didn’t you see what happened?” Serena snapped as she swiveled around to face Harry.
“Yeah, of course I saw it. But I need to know what’s going on. I’d like to know so I can help you get through this and figure it out.” Harry explained.
Serena’s face softened. “You… you really want to help me? No one’s ever… offered to help me before.” She chewed her bottom lip and looked down at the ground. “Well, alright. Fine. But you have to stay quiet and not tell anyone. Ever.”
“I promise.” Harry said.
And so Serena told him the story of what had happened to her four years before.
-|-
When she was done, Harry stared at her incredulously. “Wow. Serena, why would you agree to that?”
“Because I didn’t know that Voldemort was evil. I didn’t know who and what Malfoy and those men were, I didn’t know that it would be dangerous for me to watch you… I was a little kid, and I had just wanted to show my parents that I could do whatever I wanted and that I could be brave. They had never let me do anything or choose anything myself.” Serena said, looking down guiltily.
“It’s alright. I’m not mad, or anything.” Harry said quietly, brushing a small strand of hair from Serena face. She glanced up quickly at his light touch, then looked down again to hide her blush.
Suddenly there was a shout in the village.
Harry’s eyes shot towards the center of Hogsmeade, where an older man was lying on the stones. Harry ran as fast as he could towards the man, who was, by then, being swarmed by people.
“He’s coming…. He’s coming for something, and he’s going to get it…” the man said. He kept repeating this over and over until someone helped him to his feet. And then the old man’s eyes widened as he looked at Serena. “He wants her. He needs her, to get into the tunnels.”
Serena gasped and she staggered backwards.
“What does he mean?” Harry asked her.
“No… he…. Can’t get in there… not without…” she paused. “Oh, God.” And then she ran.

Chapter Seven

Serena shoved people aside as she made her way to the alley where she had last seen Lucius. As soon as she stepped into the darkness, she heard a pair of footsteps stopping right by hers.
“Serena, what’s going on? What in the world was that old man talking about?” Harry’s voice asked from the entrance of the alley.
“Harry, we… we can’t be friends anymore.” Serena said suddenly, the words cutting her like a knife. I have to do it, she told herself.
Harry had pulled out his wand and put the Lumos spell on it, so Serena saw his face when it went from confused to a little bit sad. “Why?” he whispered.
“It’s… too dangerous for you. It’s not safe for you to be around me. I don’t want you getting hurt because of me.” Serena said, looking at her feet and backing up a few steps.
“Serena, it’s ok. I’m not afraid,” Harry said.
Serena shook her head.
Harry sighed. “Just tell me something before I walk out of here and probably never talk to you again.”
Serena looked up, tears prickling the edges of her eyes. “Yes?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“What happened with that old man? Why was he looking at you and talking about tunnels?”
“He… Lucius put some spell on him that made him go delirious and say things so it would freak me out.” Serena lied.
“Oh. But why?”
“Because he’s a Malfoy, what do you expect?” Serena laughed fakely through her tear-choked throat.
“True, very true.” Harry replied, laughing a little, too.
Serena nodded and then Harry turned and walked out, no good bye. She felt her tears start to fall down her face like a waterfall, hitting the ground with a barely-audible splash. She hated that she had just turned away her only friend at Hogwarts. She hated that she was always alone because of who she was: a Slytherin.
And she hated lying about the old man.
The truth was that Lucius had put him there as a warning, telling Serena that Voldemort wanted something from her, and that if she didn’t help him, he’d hurt more than just random old people she didn’t know.
Serena almost knew what he wanted, but she wouldn’t say it out loud. She had seen this coming for a while now, and knew that it would happen if she went to Hogwarts.
Voldemort wanted her to do one of the worst things she could do. It would ruin her life, get her in huge trouble.
Voldemort wanted her to open the Chamber of Secrets.
-|-
“Weirdest Hogsmeade trip ever.” Ron said as he, Hermione, and Harry entered Hogwarts after their trip.
Hermione nodded in agreement. “I wonder what that thing in the middle of town was about,”
“Me, too,” Ron looked at Harry. “Looks like that old guy was interested in Serena, huh, Harry?”
“Mmhm,” Harry said, barely there. His mind was wandering. He knew that Serena had been lying to him about the old man; he had seen it in her face. But why? What in the world could be so bad that she couldn’t tell him?
And then he saw her.
Serena was walking hastily up the stairs towards the Slytherin common room, appearing to be skipping dinner.
“Isn’t that her?” Hermione asked, also seeing Serena.
“Yeah. Is she embarrassed and not going to dinner tonight? If she is, she’s insane. I heard they’re having something really good tonight.” Ron said, practically drooling from thinking of food.
“Ron, sometimes I think you have no heart.” Hermione sighed, shaking her head. “Maybe she’s upset. Maybe she knew that old man.”
Harry’s mind blocked out the rest of their conversation, and his eyes followed Serena as she went up the stairs. She wouldn’t meet his eyes, wouldn’t even look down. This gave Harry a jolt of sadness.
He sighed. It had been a long day. He was looking forward to a good night’s sleep.

Chapter Eight

It was several hours later before Serena decided to walk up the stairs to her dormitory and get into bed. She wasn’t tired, but she had to do something besides sit in the common room all night, waiting for something bad to happen. And then, slowly, her eyes began to close and she drifted into sleep.
-|-

Serena could barely see. There was darkness all around until someone shouted “LUMOS!” and a bright stick of light appeared in the middle of the room. Three people were underneath the light: the figure that held the light was standing, while the other two were both kneeling on the ground in front of his feet. The one on the left was a woman with ink-black hair, and the one on the left was a man with brown hair: Katrina and Thomas Slytherin.
“Please, please, spare us!” Thomas cried, tears streaming down his pale, sweaty face.
“No. I need your daughter, and this is the only way to get her to do what I want.” Voldemort’s voice replied.
“Why must you use our daughter, my Lord?” Katrina asked in a choked voice.
“I need her to open the Chamber of Secrets for me so I can add on to my Horcruxes.” Voldemort said, a small smile forming on his lips.
“You can’t! She could be killed! It’s dangerous down there. Even if the basilisk is dead, there are still things that could hurt her!” Thomas shouted.
“CRUCIO!” Voldemort exclaimed, pointing his wand at Thomas. As Thomas writhed and screamed on the floor, Voldemort said: “Be silent and speak only when spoken to.”
“Stop this!” Serena wanted to scream; but she couldn’t. All she could do was stand and watch while her parents were tortured because of her.
Thomas’ screams stopped and he was still. “Please don’t hurt Serena. She’s all we have!” his voice was filled with pain.
“So? It’s her destiny to open that Chamber. I’m just helping her along.”
“But she’s fifteen! She’s too young to even drive! Why can’t you open it yourself?” Katrina cried.
“Because I can’t get into the school without setting off some sort of alarm.” Voldemort replied, and Crucioed her.
Thomas could almost feel his wife’s pain. “STOP!” Thomas shrieked. “STOP!”
“CRUCIO!”
The scene stopped, like it was on pause, and then Voldemort’s ugly white face appeared in front of Serena. “Serena, open the Chamber of Secrets.” Voldemort cackled and flicked his head over to a spot in the corner of the room.
Serena could no longer see her parents, but she saw another figure in their place, chained to the floor. His face was pale as a ghost’s and he wasn’t moving.
“HARRY!” Serena exclaimed, and the world went black.

-|-

Serena woke up in a cold sweat. Her skin was clammy and her breathing was labored.
Somehow, Voldemort had gotten into her head and showed her that scene, had showed her what he was doing to her parents and Harry. It was all because of her.
She had to open that Chamber. She had to save her parents. She had to save Harry.
Quickly, Serena pulled her jacket out of the black-and-gold-specked trunk at the foot of her bed and threw it on. She had to do it tonight; she couldn’t wait any longer. She wouldn’t let her parents and Harry couldn’t be tortured anymore. Even if it killed her, she had to do something.

Chapter Nine

Harry was standing on a stone floor staring into what looked like one of the tunnels in the Chamber of Secrets. He didn’t even know how he got there.
A sudden burst of footsteps hitting the wet floor behind him jerked him out of his confused thoughts. Harry spun around and saw that it was Serena, running towards the end of the tunnel. When she ran passed him, it seemed like she hadn’t even seen him standing there.
And then she stopped, right at the almost-end of the tunnel. The only sound was of her heavy breathing and the wet drops dripping from the roof of the tunnel to the hard floor.
“Where are you?!” Serena called out, looking at the ceiling and spinning in a circle. “What do you want me to do if you’re not even here to help me?”
Serena sighed angrily and turned, running back towards the entrance to the tunnel. Harry quickly followed her as she made her way towards the main area of the Chamber, where Harry had fought the giant basilisk as a second year.
“Serena!” he shouted at her, but she didn’t turn.
“Voldemort!” she screamed at the ceiling. “Where’s Harry? Where are my parents?”
“I’m right here, Serena!” Harry said, coming up next to her. But she didn’t even notice.
Voldemort appeared in front of them, and Harry yanked his wand out of his pocket.
But Voldemort only looked at Serena, and she looked back.
Everything around Harry began to become dim, and his vision fogged up. He could no longer see and he felt himself fall to the hard, cold floor of the Chamber.
The next thing he knew, he was awake, sitting in his bed in the Gryffindor dormitory.
-|-
Harry’s feet were moving long before his mind had a chance to catch up.
When Harry’s mind finally caught up, though, he realized that he had had another vision, one in which Serena was in serious trouble. He had to get to the Chamber of Secrets before something bad happened.
Sooner than Harry though possible, he had slipped out of the Common Room, run down the hallway, and was almost to Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom on the second floor.
He didn’t even bother checking to see where Myrtle was before entering. He just rushed through the door after throwing it open. Luckily, though, he didn’t see her anywhere, but he heard slight snoring coming from one of the bathroom stalls. Snickering, Harry made his way over to the sink where he had first opened the Chamber. They were a little dirty and filled with water, but the silver handles glinted in the small amount of light coming from somewhere in the bathroom. Quickly he thought about what he needed to say; it had been so long since he had spoken parseltongue, let alone opened the Chamber of Secrets.
The second after he said “open” to the sing, the sinks all became to come apart and slide outward. A deep, dark hole began appearing in the center of the circle of sinks. Without a second thought, he jumped.
-|-
Serena was hopelessly lost in the labyrinthine tunnels that made up the Chamber of Secrets. She had been searching for Voldemort, her parents, and Harry for at least two hours with no luck. She slumped over for a moment and groanec angrily. She had been so stupid for thinking she could find them; she should’ve waited until he showed himself.
A noise from behind her made her spin around. “Hello?” she called out into the darkness. “Hello?”
No one answered her.
Serena kicked at a rock on the floor. She had to stop hallucinating things.
The noise came again, this time from a different direction.
And then a scream; a woman’s scream.
“Mother!” Serena cried, running towards the source of the scream. She turned a few more corners and then found herself, miraculously, at the entrance to the Chamber. It was empty.
Empty.
Except for Voldemort, who was standing a few feet away from her.
Alone. He didn’t have her parents, or Harry.
“Where are they? My parents? Harry?” she asked him, her voice crackling with anger. “WHERE ARE THEY?!”
“They aren’t here. What I showed you wasn’t real.” Voldemort explained calmly.

Chapter Ten

“N-not… here?” Serena stammered, a cold sweat pouring down her back.
“Not. Here.” Voldemort replied, separating each word.
Serena couldn’t believe how stupid she was. “How… b-but… then where are they?”
“Your parents are still at home, worried sick about their missing daughter.” Voldemort said.
“Well… if they aren’t here, then why do you still need me? Were you just pretending to have them just to bother me, or was there some other reason you’ve made me come all the way down here?” Serena asked, crossing her arms across her chest.
“I need your blood in order to make my next Horcrux.”
Serena stepped back a few steps. “My… blood? But if it’s your Horcrux, then why do you need mine?”
“I’d use my own, of course, but to be able to create this certain Horcrux, I need to spill all of the person’s blood I use.” Voldemort explained calmly.
Serena’s eyes widened and she took another few steps backward. Her legs began to move of their own accord and suddenly she was running, her shoes slapping the hard, wet floor.
“Accio Serena!” Voldemort shouted, pointing his wand as Serena. She felt a pull on her body and then she was moving backwards, towards Voldemort. He grabbed her arm tightly and held her there.
“Let me go!” she screamed, struggling to get free of him. His grip just kept tightening on her arm until it felt numb.
“STUPEFY!” the words came out of the darkness of one of the tunnels, and a bright light followed it, hitting Voldemort in the chest, knocking him off his feet. He let go of Serena in surprise, eyes widening.
Serena recognized that voice. “Harry?” she shouted into the darkness, running towards the source of the light.
Arms wrapped around Serena as Harry pulled her into a hug.
“I’m so glad you’re alright, Harry!” Serena exclaimed breathlessly.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” he asked, confused, as they pulled apart.
“I thought Voldemort had you, and my parents. He showed me these images…” she shuddered. “It was so frightening.”
“I’m fine, but—LOOK OUT!” he shouted, shoving Serena out of the way of a bright green light aimed at her. She fell onto the ground as the spell missed and hit the wall behind her, the light slowing fading away.
There was a shout of anger from Voldemort, and then: “Potter, you’re always getting in my way. And I was just about to rid the world of this treacherous girl!”
“Treacherous?” Harry asked, confused.
“Have you not figured it out? She lied to you, Potter. She ran away from home; her parents didn’t send her here. And you may have figured this out, but she is not only the descendent of Salazar Slytherin, she is also the heir of Slytherin.” Voldemort said, finishing with a smirk.
Harry glanced at Serena, who nodded, confirming it. But Harry had already guessed about all of this. Harry raised his wand.
“EXPELLIARMUS!” Voldemort shouted suddenly. Harry’s wand flew out of his hand and slammed into the floor about ten feet behind him.
Serena stood up and saw Voldemort draw something from his black robe, and it glinted off the dim light of the entrance tunnel. As he pulled it out farther, she recognized it as a long, shining silver sword with a green and purple hilt, decorated by a snake; it must’ve been made especially for him.
He pulled it out and pointed it towards the floor. As the pointed end of the sword touched the floor, silver lines began forming along the cracks in the hard stone. The area Serena was standing out separated from the rest of the floor, and she suddenly found herself standing on a little stone island in the middle of the miniature lake that spread out in from of the statue at the end of the tunnel.
Harry jerked his head in the direction of her little island, and then glanced at the place where his wand had fallen.
Serena, now out of her shocked state, pulled her own wand secretly out of her pocket and flung it at Harry, who caught it.
Voldemort hadn’t seen it, but he had somehow appeared next to Serena on her island of stone. He pointed the sword tip at her stomach.
“Now,” he murmured, “you die.”
Before he was able to shove the sword through Serena, Harry had his wand out and had shouted a spell that Serena hadn’t heard him say. Voldemort lifted the sword and the spell rebounded off it, hitting Harry in the chest and knocking him down.
Serena glared directly at Voldemort and jumped into the lake. Voldemort, who was caught off guard, glanced at her and then aimed the sword directly at her heart.
The sword sliced through the air and Serena screamed.
There was a splash, and Harry glanced up. Serena was nowhere in sight, and the lake was quickly turning a deep red color.

Chapter Eleven

Serena could feel herself drifting, but she wasn’t dead yet, she knew. The sword had slashed open her side, and she couldn’t open her eyes enough to look at it because of the water. She searched her pocket for her wand to see what she could do, but then she remembered she had thrown it to Harry before she’d gone under the water.
With a grunt, she began to slowly make her way to the surface of the water. She went as fast as her bleeding side would allow her.
When finally her head broken the surface, Harry and Voldemort were locked in a battle of wands.
Out of Harry’s, Serena’s, wand there was a bright green light, and out of Voldemort’s was a blood-red one. Neither of them noticed as Serena crept out of the miniature lake and crawled over to Harry’s wand.
After healing herself (“Ferula”), she pointed the wand at Voldemort.
But what could she do?
The gears in her mind shifted and tried to come up with a plan, any plan at all, but came up with only one thing: Run. She couldn’t use a spell because he could block it and maybe use it against her or Harry, and she couldn’t use the direct approach because she’s probably be killed, plus she’d no longer have the power of surprise.
How could she run fast enough to get out? Her side was split open and she was dripping wet. Voldemort was bound to see her running.
An idea suddenly flared up in her head.
She looked around for the sword and realized that it was at the bottom of the lake.
“Accio sword,” she murmured, the wand pointed at the area of the water from which she’d emerged.
The sword flew swiftly through the air and into Serena’s waiting hand.
She raised the sword, posing to strike, and crept ever closer to Voldemort, who seemed to be to distracted by the beams of light between him and Harry to see her; he most likely thought she was dead anyway.
She put the mobiliarbus charm on the sword and made it fly forward, the sword aimed at Voldemort.
-|-
Harry’s arms hurt from holding up his wand for so long. But the wands couldn’t disconnect, or he’d die. He couldn’t let go.
Suddenly, something silver whirred past his face. The sword!
Voldemort didn’t look up as the sword came nearer and nearer to him, and when he did look up, there was no time to stop it.
He disappeared.
The light from both his and Harry’s wands was distinguished, and Harry dropped to the floor, panting.
“Are you alright?” a choked voice asked from behind him.
“Serena?” Harry cried, turning around.
There she was, sitting on the stone ground, white bandages peeking out from under her shirt.
“You’re…ok?” Harry asked.
Serena nodded. “Yes, I’m fine, but we should probably get out of here so I can go have Madam Pomfrey look at my wound.”
Harry walked over to Serena and helped her stand, then wrapped his arms under her armpits. They hobbled along the tunnel, finally making it back to where they’d started.
“Uhm… I’m not sure how to get out. The last time I was down here, I had Fawkes to help me fly out.” Harry said sheepishly.
Serena felt along the walls until her hand slid into an opening. She slipped her hand inside it and felt around. Aha! There was a handle. She wrapped her hand around it. There was a loud rumble and the ground began to shake. The floor Serena and Harry were standing on began to ascend, carrying them to the top of the long shaft.
After closing the Chamber again, Serena and Harry paused for a moment to finally catch their breath.
“Thanks, Harry.” Serena said, smiling at him. “It’s just… I feel so bad about lying to you. The old man was put there as a warning for me, telling me what was to come. And I knew it. I’d known this whole time that Voldemort was using me to get you, and he almost did. I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself had something happened to you.”
Harry sighed. “Let’s just go get your side checked out, and then we can figure out what to do.”
With a nod, Serena let him put his arm under her arms and help her walk to the infirmary.

I'm really sorry if anyone didn't think that was the way Voldemort acted or Harry, or even if you thought Serena would do something different. I'm no good with characters, and this was the only way I could think to end the battle scene! It's just the way I write. So I'm sorry in advance if anyone gets confused!! sad.gif

Chapter Twelve

Serena was leaving.
After Harry had taken her to the Hospital Wing, he’d gone to tell Professor Dumbledore everything that had happened. Professor Dumbledore had immediately had a search party put together. They searched the whole castle, but no one was able to find Voldemort anywhere. He was gone.
When Harry was sent to the Hospital Wing to give Serena her dinner, she told him the news.
“Someone sent an owl to my parents saying what happened,” she said. “and they’re coming here to take me home.”
Harry’s eyes widened. “When?”
“Whenever I’m healed, they said.” Serena let out a deep breath and leaned her head back on the pillow. “They probably hate me now.”
“You ran away so you could learn more, and keep your promise. You disobeyed your parents, yes, but that doesn’t mean they hate you. Anyone would’ve done what you did.” Harry told her.
She smiled slightly. “Thanks. I really hope that way.”
They talked for a little while longer, and when curfew was called, Harry stood. He then bent over and kissed Serena on the lips.
He left the Hospital Wing a few moments later.
Serena placed her hand gently on her lips; she could still feel the light touch of Harry’s lips on hers. She grinned and yawned, falling asleep again.
-|-
A week later, Serena was finally healed. Her parents had arrived a day before, but she hadn’t gone to see them. Now she was packing her things into her suitcase. She shoved them into it, not caring about wrinkles. Serena didn’t want to leave. Why couldn’t her parents just punish her when she got home?
With a grunt, Serena pushed on the lid of the suitcase, attempting to shut it. The clasps wouldn’t stay, so she jumped up onto the suitcase and sat on it, putting her whole body weight on it. It managed to shut just enough for her to click the two clasps together.
She slid off the bed and grabbed her suitcase, walking as slowly as possible down the stairs and out the door of the Slytherin Common Room.
Her parents were waiting for her in the hallway. Thomas’s face was stony, while Katrina’s was soft and her eyes had a glassy sheen to them.
“Serena!” she cried, throwing her arms out for a hug.
Serena walked right by her, pretending she wasn’t there.
“Serena, if anyone should be mad, it’s us.” Her father said.
Serena sighed and dropped her suitcase to the ground. She sat down on it and hid her face in her hands. “I know.” She murmured, close to tears. “And I’m really, really sorry.”
Warm arms wrapped around her shaking shoulders. “Serena, we’re so proud of you.” Her mother said, caressing her hair.
“Proud?” Serena sobbed. “W-why would you be proud?”
“Because you were able to save yourself from one of the most dangerous wizards of all time, and even came close to destroying him. You helped Harry, even though you weren’t supposed to. That’s why we’re proud of you, Serena.” Her father said, bending down to look at her.
Katrina unwrapped her arms from around her daughter. “We are mad that you ran away, of course, but we’re glad you’re okay, too.”
“So I’m off the hook?” Serena asked hopefully.
“Not even close, Ser.” Thomas said with a smile.
“Darn, and I was so sure that almost getting killed would keep you from grounding me.” Serena said, trying to see if the guilt trip would change anything.
“Don’t make it worse.” Katrina smiled.
“Okay, fine.” Serena stood and picked up her suitcase.
As they began to walk to the doors, Serena heard someone call her name.
“Serena!” Harry called, running up to her. He threw his arms around her and gave her a huge hug.
Serena hugged him right back, grinning.
They pulled apart and Serena said, with a fake pout, “Will you miss me when I’m gone?”
“Well…. Maybe.” Harry shrugged.
Serena punched him lightly on the shoulder. “You better miss me, Harry, or I’ll come back again, you know I will.”
“We wouldn’t want that now, would we?” Harry laughed.
There was a sudden awkward pause, and both looked at the floor.
Harry looked up first. “So, uh, you’re really leaving.”
“Looks like it,” Serena replied, still looking at her feet.
They both sighed.
“Come on, Serena, we’re going to miss our train!” Thomas called to his daughter.
Serena looked at Harry. “I should go. Uhm…. Bye, Harry.”
She turned and ran, not looking back.
“Bye….” Harry whispered as she left.
-|-
Serena followed her parents as they made their way to one of the carriages.
Suddenly, she dropped her suitcase and ran back to the castle, just as the doors were closing. “Harry!” she called to him.
He turned and Serena threw her arms around his neck and kissed him, hard and passionately.
His surprised eyes closed as he wrapped his own arms around her waist, and lifted her up. She giggled, and then kissed him again.
They came up for air and Harry put Serena back on the floor.
“I’m going to miss you, Serena.” Harry said.
“And…. I’ll miss you.” She replied. “I’ll write you every day, just to annoy you.” Serena smirked.
“That’s fine with me.” Harry replied with a half-smile.
“Ok, then.” Serena looked back at the stone pathway where her parents were waiting. She rushed to follow them. “See you sometime!” she called her over shoulder at Harry.
“You, too!” he shouted back, a smile still planted on his face.
Serena took one last look at the school, and then the doors closed, cutting off her vision of the entrance hall.

*Sniff, sniff* I only have the Epilogue left, now! But I have time for my other fanfiction, right? But still....*sigh*. Anyway, can someone give me the PM name of a moderator who can move this to the Completed Fics archive for me? I'm not really sure who all of them are....

Epilogue
21 Years Later

Serena walked easily through the brick pillar onto Platform 9 and ¾. She saw Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, and Draco and his wife. Harry and Ginny, she saw, had three children, Ron and Hermione had two, and Draco had one. She smiled to herself as she watched the parents of the children say good-bye to them, and then they hopped on the Hogwarts train.
This was the year she’d decided to come back to the platform and see Harry. She’d known he married Ginny because Harry had invited her to the wedding, but she hadn’t come because she figured she wouldn’t be welcomed (she had been sad about their marriage for a little while, but she knew they wouldn’t have gotten married anyway. She’d been happy for him, too) She also knew that he had a few children, too, because he’d written her about them when they were born, so this year she wanted to talk to him in person. She knew where he’d be.
She watched as the parents waved good-bye to their children, and then the train left the platform. The second Ginny left to go talk to one of the other parents, Serena slipped away from her hiding spot and went over to where Harry was standing.
She tapped him on the left shoulder, while standing by his right side.
Harry looked to his left, and then to his right.
“Tricked you!” Serena smiled.
Harry looked just like his dad now; he still had the scar, and his glasses, and those bright green eyes she’d always loved.
“Serena?!” he exclaimed, almost not believing his eyes.
“It’s me.” She said.
“You haven’t changed a bit.” He shook his head.
“If course not. What did you expect from me?” she said. There was a paused, and she said, “Your kids are so cute! I’m glad I got to see them for myself, finally.”
Harry smiled. “They’re really great.”
“And Ginny is so gorgeous now. It’s not surprising you fell for her.” Serena grinned.
Harry laughed.
Speaking of Ginny, she had begun to walk back over to Harry. Serena looked at the clock and saw it was almost ten.
“I should go,” she said. “But I’ll still write you every day!”
“I bet you will.” Harry laughed.
Before leaving, though, Serena stood on her tip-toes and placed a very light kiss on Harry’s cheek, not caring that Ginny could probably see.
“Bye Harry!” she called over her shoulder.
She hoped to come back and see him next year.

Well, it's over everybody! *sniff, sniff* I thought this would be a really cool idea for an Epilogue....let's just hope Ginny never finds out .
