Hi guys I couldn't find a thread like this so let me know if there is one please.

Ok ok I just had to show you all this:

Harry Oldman
full article here:
Parodies article
Sorry but that's too funny! biggrin.gif

Ok so there are many Harry Potter parodies such as in the Simpsons and French and Saunders for Comic Relief:

Chamberpot of Azerbaijan

or even barry Trotter books. So what does anyone think, as Harry Potter fans?

I don't think there's another thread like this, just the "Funny Websites" one, but anyway ... agh, so creepy! Personally, I find it slightly funny if it's not really mean, but sometimes it's just very mean from some people. For example, "Epic movie" can be funny, but certain things you think ... hey, stop it. Or then, there's a video I found in YouTube with Lindsay Lohan playing Hermione ... it's just outrageous! I hate her so, how can she play Hermione! But I really love those videos with The Sims, I want to have a game like that!

See it depends on the parody style and how rude it is. I like the Chamberpot of Azerbaijan; some parts aren't as funny, but I still like it because we're so seriously obsessed and sometimes we can just use the break to relax and look at some of the funny stuff that can be made with what JKR has.

When they get truly rude and offend either, JKR, characters or places, or us as obsessed fans, that when I think the line should be drawn. It's supposed to be for laughs, not to tell us how "dumb" we are in their opinion for liking something.

I think its all in good fun, i mean, its never really something intentionally cruel. SOmetimes they go over the top, but its never enough that it really angers me. Personally i dont really think spoof type stuff is that funny in the first place, so i never really get amused or offended by it to tell you the truth

I love the parodies - especially the Potter Puppet Pals.

I've just re-watched the Comic Relief parody, which was hiliarious even at the time it was first aired. Jennifer Saunders as JK Rowling and Ron was superb, and Jeremy Irons as Snape even better. Did anyone spot Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter) as Hermione? Priceless when you consider she went on to be in GoF, eh?

Harry Potter parodies are funny if personalities of the characters are taken and just intensified. Altering well known quotes from the films can be humorous... Like changing "You're a wizard, Harry" to "You're a woman, Harry" (from Chamberpot of Azerbaijan) . I was talking to Sister to the Dark Lord, and we both agree that it's a bit lame if you make Voldemort obsessed with Barbie dolls or Snape a secret ballerina, etc. You have to know how far to go, and be careful not to hurt the fans' feelings. wink.gif We can be touchy if they start to insult us.

Exactly, Snapefan21! I think the same, because I love the Puppet Pals, for example, and, well, some puns and quotes alterations can be fun; I'd even (sorry) consider funny to see an icon with Voldemort playing with a Barbie, but c'mon, you know when the thing is not offensive and when it got mean. On the other side, there's no need to be anti-Potter to mock of characters; an obvious example is all the people (generally different shippers) who make fun of Ron, and you know that that is mean. Comparing what you say (and agreeing, not offending!), I love when Ron appears in the Puppet Pals even when he looks a bit dummie, or the avatar of Follow the Butterflies, but it's such a pain to read people making really a joke of him; I bet you'd feel the same if you read "Oh yeah, Snape a hero, sure". dry.gif Particularly, I'm more annoyed with those people than with people who has never read HP and try to make fun of something they have no idea about.
Snapefan21
It does annoy me when they insult Ron, and of course, Snape. With Ron it's a bit worse, however, because he does a lot more than people give him credit for. With Ron it just seems to be plain insulting for some reason. Potter Puppet Pals is pretty good, it's not being mean, it's just extremely funny! laugh.gif It helps that the guy who created the parody seems to be a Potter fan himself.
You really don't have to apologize when you disagree, it won't offend me. smile.gif

I have never actually watched any long Harry Potter parodies. I do like those Harry Potter/South Park series they have on youtube because I love Harry Potter and I love South Park. I love Harry Potter Puppet Pals as well (especially Mysterious Ticking Noise).
Sinsdaemn
Oh yes I definitely agree with you there! ^___^ That's also one of my favorites especially with everyone singing together. happy.gif

I have to say that it's better when the people do it in good taste and humor, as others have pointed out. It just translates better.

Oh I love parodies. The Potter Puppet pals are unforgettable certanly and I also found this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImAVjGJekYw...re=channel_page.

You have to have a little Marvel/DC knowledge beforehand too truly get everything but trust me when I say it´s hilarious(and so are this guy´s other videos).

But yeah I don´t think parodies should be taken too seriously because the people that make them have usually as big respect for the source material as we do(and if the parody is going to be good you kind off have to like the original for it to work).
lancelot243
Another really good parody is A Very Potter Musical. It is actually a full length musical put on by a group of college kids. Its really good, and it is one of my favorite Potter parodies. You should go check it out, its really fantastic.

If you know who That Guy With The Glasses is your´e probably familliar with five second movies and although he´s laid off doing them alot off other people have done similar ones like this one : Harry Potter 5 Order of the Phoenix - In "5" seconds.

For similar ones(and alot of funny reviews) go to http://www.thatguywiththeglasses.com/.

There you can find the equally funny: Harry Potter(All of Em) in five seconds.

Oooh parodies are too funny! Honestly, anyone who has something against these has to lack a sense of humor or be pretty narrow-minded. You have to laugh at yourselves sometimes! And most of them don't even laugh at HP, just make a funnier version of it. I love both Twilight and Harry Potter parodies, and I actually think they'd be funnier for fans than non-fans. The problem is that sometimes people try too hard and it ends up sounding forced and not funny at all.
Chamberpot of Azerbaijan is my favorite, its sooo funny. I think its the fact that they try to put all of HP into a few minutes that makes it so hilarious.

I have yet to see the Harry Potter/South Park one, my sister loves South Park and, well.. I do think its really funny... rolleyes.gif

I really enjoy Potter parodies, particularly the potter puppet pals stuff. I do see the side of the fence where people are offended or annoyed at parodies, but I think that it is important to take them at face value, they are designed for a laugh and not to be taken seriously.

I particularly enjoyed the Comic Relief parody I was unable to stop laughing particularly at Basil Brush as Dobby (takes me back to my childhood). I also found Jeremy Iron's Snape amusing too (especially the hair comment).
