I can't believe we've gone this long without opening up a Luna Lovegood fanclub. Well, it's long over-do.

So, here it is, the unofficial Luna Lovegood fanclub for all the Luna Lovers in us! Personally, I'm a huge Luna fan.

Ahh! I'm so excited! I've been thinking about a Luna club for weeks now, but I didn't know how many people out there loved her as much as I do! Thanks Insomnia for this long over-due club. Curiously, are we just calling this the Unofficial Luna Lovegood Fanclub, because I have a really good idea for a name, if you'd like...

Why do you love Luna?

For one, everyone in HP is really serious because of the intensiveness, and she just brings that little sparkle of joy to the page. She doesn't really care what other people think about her, of course, and has her own mind and opinion of how things should work. She's such a thinker, and I love how she came to be a wizarding naturalist when she grew up. Gosh, there's so much I like about her, I can't say it all. But, what does everyone else who comes here think?

Insomnia! I'm so happy you started the club! I sent in a request months ago to open a fan club for her, but nobody ever got back to me. I'm so glad you opened it though! It's about time someone did!

Why do you love Luna?

She's so unique. She's not like any other character in any way. The first thing that made her my favorite character in the whole series is how different she is. She's always herself. And she's like me in some ways too, which is cool. She never cares what other people think about her. She is who she is and doesn't change for anybody. And she's so funny! She always seems to brighten up dark or gloomy situations! She's a light that never dims!

Oh, Kiersten what's your idea for a name? Please share it! I think we should have something unique and original, not just 'Unofficial Luna Lovegood Fanclub'. And we should have a nominee every month for the loony lovers of Luna, kind of like the Hermione-ette each month! What do you think?!

I totally agree with the "Looney-nette (I just made something up, haha.)" of the month! SO crazy! Oh, well my name is something like the "Ludicrous Advocates of Luna Association" sort of because she doesn't get enough credit and a lot of people think she's a little crazy sometimes. But I don't believe that. It would be LALA then, which I thought was pretty cool as a shorter name.


I totally agree with that, Chelsea! She doesn't change for anyone, and I love how in OotP, she's not too worrisome when all her things go missing, ha. Evanna Lynch is such an amazing person is perfect to portray our lovely lady Luna!

And I agree with you! Evanna Lynch is amazing for her character! I think she was the best picked actor of the whole series as far as being able to play her character perfectly in every way!

Wow! I'm so glad to see such enthusiasm right off the bat. I'm completely up for a name change. I'm not the most creative in that kind of thing, so I just gave it that name for now. We can have people submit their ideas over the next week and then vote for the best name.

By all means, you two are more than welcome to help out. If you have ideas for questions, just post them up. If you notice the thread has slowed down, you can try pumping it back up.

As for a Loony-ette (thanks Kiersten) of the month, I'm all for it. Maybe one of you can help out with avatars for it?

Yay! I always wondered why Luna never got her own club. Well, it's here now! I love the ideas so far about calling it 'LALA' and for Looney-ette.

Why do you love Luna?

I love that she is herself. She just goes around spreading her own laughs and crazy logic. She is so insane, that she actually manages to make sense sometimes. She is like the sun. Even if you can't see her, she is there spreading joy to someone. Luna is Luna, and that's why I like her.

I agree with you as well, that Evanna Lynch is one of the best actors in HP. I swear she is Luna by the perfect way she acts.

Why do you love Luna?

I love Luna because she's herself, and she doesn't change for anyone else. She accepts herself for who she is doesn't really care that others may not like her. Luna is also very loyal to her friends, as shown in the D.A., she'd do anything that would help win the fight against Voldy.

What is your favorite 'Luna' moment in the books?
When she attended Bill and Fleur's wedding. Quite...interesting.

Why do you love Luna?

Luna ia the coolest character and just because she is friends with Harry but because she is just her. Although when we first met her I swore she was crazy!

There are alot of great 'Luna' moment and none of which I can pick or choose to be my favorite.

Yaaay! I'm completely up to join yet another club!!!! Luna is like my second nature. I mean, my first nature is absolutely Hermion-ish, but Luna stands for my dreamy and out-of place side, so it's a character that I really like. So, kudos to Insomnia! for opening this shiny-new club. Luna deserves a lot.

Why do you love Luna?
Mainly, because she doesn't care much about what others might say. She believes in stuff nobody does, but she's happy in her own way. She doesn't need facts, or proves, to believe and have faith. Also, she is completely optimistic and she values friendship and relationships above all, for she lost an important person in her life -- her mom -- and has got all the love from his father, which helped them carry on, and she hasn't got many friends, that's why makes her be so grateful and loyal to friends. I can't say she's unique, because ... who isn't unique here? But she is a very special person, one of a kind.

What is your favorite 'Luna' moment in the books?
My favourite moments are those when everybody tries to pull her leg and she throw the truth in their faces: for example, when about to fly to the Ministry, she says they could go flying, and Harry and Ron try to shut her up, thinking that she's talking nonsense, and she says "We can fly on Thestrals, do you think I'm stupid?" Then also when Harry takes her to Slughorn's Christmas Party, because she was really happy.

I'm looking forward to see "Ludicrous Advocates of Luna Association" written on the top of this thread .... yet I'll have to get used to write LALA on my sig, since it's the pet name of Lav-Lav in the Spanish edition Anyway, I love the name of our association! I've got to accept that at first, I wasn't very pleased, because she didn't look as the Loony I imagined, but when I saw her in OotP, I couldn't have changed my mind more quickly! But I think sometimes Evanna plays too dreamy, and it's ... kind of overplayed for Luna. Anyway, I find Evanna a very nice person and a good actress, so I'm really glad they chose her.

I don't actually own any books with Luna in them (I know, shocking! ) yet, so I can't refer to my favorite moment. But I will soon!

I think she does a pretty good job. She's not exactly like I imagined Luna, though who ever is going to please all of us? Um, but she does a pretty good job. I do agree that sometimes she over does it. Luna's not completely mental, but they could take it down just a notch at some moments.

I had never seen her before, so I can't say I was thrilled or anything. I mean, I just hoped she'd do an amazing job.

That's a great idea Insomnia! By the way, do you mind me asking your name? And yay! We get to use LALA!

So, Luna's birthday is never stated in the books, interviews or anything! All we know is that she was born in 1981 before September 1. Now, Evanna Lynch's birthday is August 16, 1991. So, I guess we can either choose a birthday for her, or we could use Evanna's birthday, as a suggestion.

Now, I was thinking that her birthday, in my opinion, would be somewhere in May, just because of how it's spring, and life-filled, you know? So what about May 17-23, and we dedicate the 21 as her birthday? I'm just coming up with random dates here that I like and I'm shooting out, so any other ideas? Hahaha.

Why do you love Luna?
She makes people think. Just by being herself, just by being so open-minded and "out there," she forces the people around her to kind of question their beliefs a little and wonder if maybe she's right. You know? Like maybe Nargles do exist. Who knows? She's a very free spirit and I love how she uses that as the main focus of herself, so people kind of underestimate her and how intelligent she truly is. There's a reason she's in Ravenclaw, and I think she's brilliant.

What do you think of Evanna Lynch as Luna?
I love her as Luna. I thought that maybe she seemed a little too flighty in the movies? But I think that it actually works out pretty well. She is kind of flighty-looking and just out there. I love the scene in the fourth movie where she's looking for her shoes and they're on the rafters. It's like she knows all the stuff that's going on around her, she just doesn't show it. I love how that is true to Luna's character in the books.

Hmm, there are so many, it's hard to pick out just one. Well, I love the part when she wears the huge hat with the lion that roars before the quidditch game. She's so funny! Haha. And pretty much any time she shows up, she says or does something that makes you want to laugh.

What do you think of Evanna Lynch as Luna? What was your reaction when finding out?

I think she's absolutely perfect in every single way! Really. Luna was the character I had been most nervous about when they were casting her part. She's always been my favorite character and I didn't want them to mess up. When I saw her interview for the first time I was amazed at how perfect she was. I would never pick anybody else to play Luna. She's doesn't just play the part well, she is the part! Perfect!

As for Luna Week, I think using Evanna Lynch's birthday would be more suitable because it's more symbolic than a made-up date. Although we don't know Luna's birthday, at least we have the birthday of the actress who portray's her. But that's just me. We'll see how everyone else feels or what others might come up with still.

You know, when I first saw her, I wasn't overly impressed with her voice. I thought it sounded too airy and fake. But then I saw a program that included an interview with her that mentioned JKR herself saw and talked with Evanna Lynch at a book signing and said she'd make a perfect Luna. That's when I realized that Evanna Lynch's voice is like that in real life. Her voice on HP is the same as everyday. That's when I really fell in love with her and embraced her as Luna.

I think she's brilliant. She's absolutely perfect. I'm not a huge fan of the way they portray certain characters in the films, but Luna is one of the rare people who they've got absolutely right. Her lines are so wonderfully strange, and she looks and sounds perfect (I was surprised that she actually speaks like that in real life). And another thing I bear a grudge against in the films is their obsession with wearing muggle clothes. But I don't think this applies to Luna, because I love her muggle outfits!

Why do you love Luna?

I know it sounds redundant, but as Harry said, Luna has a knack of saying the awful truth in an unabashed way, just like stating a fact, only the fact is hurtful to ones ears. She doesn't cares for whatever the people said and did to her, she is what she is. She is funny and intelligent, a little weird, but I like her just the way she is.

What is your favorite 'Luna' moment in the books?

Although there are lots of Luna moment that I loved and one of them is. . . when Harry came to her room and read on the wall the linking words friends. . .friends. . . friends. I just love the way she values her friends.

annesches, I completely agree about the "friends" chain in her room. I thought that was very touching and indicative of her passionate nature to those she cares about. I think it was also an eye-opener to her friends.

I agree with you, annesches, in the part when you say that of ... well, what Harry said: I think this is the whole nature of Luna, that ... she believes! and she's not afraid of sharing her thoughts, and she also does that with such a grace that adds amusement, comfort and possitive feelings even in the hardest moments.

Yes, the golden chain is a good example of how much she values friendship and relationships, I think it's one of the main topics of the Harry Potter series: friendship, and how important it is.

Dess, I have no clue if that toad was her pet, though stuffing it in a bag... I think she would of, of course, had something different. I have the idea that much like Hagrid, she was interested in magical creatures. Maybe not as violent, but more in the XX rating.

I feel it's because she's gentle, but fierce when need be, which is seldom.

I don't think it's necessarily the same as her Patronus. My patronus is a trumpeter swan, and my animagus is a Eurasian Harvest Mouse. So, I think hers might of been something gentle as well, maybe a bird of some kind.

Well, if you're like me, I think she had a liking for Neville.

I like everything about the way her life ended up, except that I had hoped we would see her and Neville end up together. Rolf Scamander is an okay match for her, but out of the people we knew, why not stick her with him?

I don't think she really had pets, more animals that she found at the bottom of someone's garden and carried around with her as sort of friends. So in that sense, she had many, many pets.

Because hares have a reputation for being crazy (mad march hare) but they are in fact not as strange as people think.

Probably something with wings. Maybe a butterfly, or a bird.

Not really, no. But I think her and Neville would make a sweet couple...

I wish that she had married Neville instead. I mean, they were friends in Hogwarts. She was one of Neville's only friends and Neville was one of her only friends. In my opinion, they were meant for each other. So I'm disappointed that she ended up with Rolf cause we didn't really know his character.

I think it matches her personality. Hares, to me, seem kind of brave (or maybe I'm just thinking of the hares in Brian Jacques' Redwall...), but then they also have a great sense of humor--or at least they should! I think that they do, in an animal kind of way. That just all seems to match up with Luna.

Nah, I don't think so. Maybe she could turn into a Nargle?

Well, it seemed to me for a while that she maybe had a crush on Harry... She did talk to him an awful lot--and that all developed her personality and character so wonderfully well! Hmm, I don't know who she might have had a crush on. Maybe a shy little Hufflepuff? I could see her ending up with someone like that, I think her personality would have gone well with someone who had Hufflepuff characteristics predominant.

Are you happy with Luna ending up with Rolf Scamander and her whole future life?
Nope, not really. I mean, it's like, wait a minute, who's Rolf Scamander?! She's a pretty important character to me, and it seems that she should have ended up with someone more known--Neville would have been a good choice. Even Harry would have been better. Or maybe Justin Finch-Fletchley or Ernie MacMillan?

Woah! I am so excited that there is now a Luna Fan Club. I would absolutly love to join. Luna is one of the best characters in Harry Potter. She doesn't stick with society she stand out. Which is so awesome about her!

How would her animagus form have been? The same as her Patronus?
I doubt her animagus would be the same as her patronus. I picture as a Trumpeter Swan or a Whooping Crane. Whooping crane becuase they are very peaceful and are the second type of Crane to be found in North America. Since Luna is "Out there," shes would fit perfectly wwith the low amount of her type. I also image her as a Dove. Mostly becuase Trumpeter Swans are truely unique. They stand out among the usual ducks. Also birds are very different. How they can move, and fly. She fits that perfectly.

What was her pet, or what kind of pet would she have?
I see her as owning a very strange pet. I like both Nasuada and Eisa's idea of it being a pygmy puff. But personally I imagine her with a Golden Snidget! I know, I know what a strange idea. I understand they are extremly rare and it is illegel to own. But she'd be the one to stand out and own one. If not she would have some strange pet. Probally something no one could see, only our odd little Luna!

Why do you love Luna?
I think that Luna would have to be one of my favorite characters in the series. I admire how she always stays true to herself even when others may make fun of her. She's also very honest, truthful, trustworthy, and is a great friend.

Now that Nasuada, Eisa and Loony'sCool have mentioned the idea of her having a pygmy puff, i can definitely see it. They're such cute, lively, and adorable creatures that i think it would be a perfect pet for Luna's unique personality.

I honestly have no idea. I can't really see her having a crush on anyone, although in my opinion i think that her and Neville could have made a cute couple.

She always knows the answers to all the weird things. Like whats the purpose of Misaltoe? For Nargles to home in! ^^

I am alot like Luna in the way that she knows how to have fun and I am semi smart. But I am not like her for the obvious reason that I do not do magic and for the not so obvious that I an not completely Loony! LOL!

What makes any Ravenclaw a great Ravenclaw.....the ability to use their mind of course.

How are you like Luna, or not like Luna?

I am like Luna in so many ways! I have my own sense of style, am rather random, and I don't really care if people think I am crazy, because I am! I may not resemble her in the magical sense, but in the Muggle sense I am pretty matching!

What makes her a great Ravenclaw?

She is logical, can use her head in tense and difficult situations, she is loyal, and she loves to solve problems like riddles!

What was her pet, or what kind of pet would she have had?

I love the idea of a pigmypuff, but I think she'd rather have a puffskein And she'd had to have asked Dumbledore to let her bring it along to Hogwarts, and he'd allow her because puffskeins are so cute.

How would her animagus form have been? The same that her Patronus?

I love the idea of that her animagus form would be a winged animal, but something bigger than a butterfly, because then that would represent how free and dreamy she is, and how she's closer to the skies than to the earth.

Not really I think she lived in a world where she wasn't interested in that kind of stuff, don't know why... I thought Ron had caught a crush on her and I thought "Oh no, hell!"

I think Luna and Neville would have been a good pairing, because they both were alone and quite weird, but I'm not dissapointed at all with the fact that Luna found some one to match her. And I love her twins' names!

I'm like Luna in the way sometimes when I'm bored, I sink into a world that only belongs to me, I love daydreaming, and nightdreaming too ( ), I believe that magic exist, just as she believes nargles exist, and I'm shy and tend to say stuff not every people says (just that not in the dreamy way Luna does).

Her intelligence, which is not only logical, but also has the capacity of think beyond the question, her wide mind, and her whole dreamy air.

I am like Luna in that I don't care what other people think about me and I won't change myself just to make friends. I think that people like that are crazy, but I love Luna because she isn't like that, haha.

I don't think I'm like Luna in the aspect of figuring out those riddles, for one. I can't think outside of the book, too much, like she does. It's crazy insaneness.


She's not necessarily "Loony" as you say. I mean, sure some people think she's out there, but can you give me a definition of normal and why in the world you would find that interesting, ha?

What makes her a great Ravenclaw?

Like I said before, she's not only extremely intelligent, but she can think outside the box. They require that cleverness to be a Ravenclaw. If you want to put it into different terms, Ravenclaw corresponds with air. I just see her more with those elements because they... I can't explain it, but it sort of does.

I see her being to brave for had just been captured, because she knows that Harry, Ron, and Hermione will be rescue her.

I think she probably might have drove some of them crazy with her strange logic. She would have been scred on the inside, but let her fantasies keep her strong.

I think she might have mashed together many creatures to create something that she found interesting. Some components of them might be real and just haven't been discovered yet.

I am random like her, but that is about it. I don't make up strange creatures or daydream as much, but I do come up with facts and funny.

What was her pet, or what kind of pet would she have had?

I think a pygmy puff makes sense for her to have. It is strange and awesome at the same time.

How would her animagus form have been? The same that her Patronus?

I like what Desiree said about a winged animal. It all fits. I do think a butterfly of crane would be a neat animagus for her.

What makes her a great Ravenclaw?

She thinks outside the box and is smart at the same time. She is smart, but in a different way than the others.

Yeah, I agree with Kel. She'd have annoyed them with her chatter, but she would have been scared. I like how you said it Kel, but let her fantasies keep her strong.

I think she might have elaborated on some of the creatures, but not fully 'made them up'. She probably thought some of them were real by reading something, but she might have added stuff to some of the names to make them more interesting. Or maybe she even discovered some creatures herself!

I'm kind of a loner. I don't have too many friends in real life and I've always been the odd-ball. I don't care what other people think of me to a certain extent. If people think I'm strange or weird, I let them. I don't dress as crazily as she does or believe in funny creatures though.

No, I don't think she drove them mad, because I reckon she might have been really scared, not only for herself but also for what they could do to her father. But I agree, for sure she could comfort herself and keep dreaming in a shiny future.

I don't think she created them. Or maybe she did, eventually, but after a childhood splattered with Mr Lovegood's inventions and creatures of legend. It's just as people used to do in regards to cyclops; they were mammoths in the end, but how could they know? I think everything is possible, and Luna just might have put different signs together, told her father and he made up names.

I'm a really daydreamer, I come up with stuff that ... people believes and with things that are out of place, I value friendship, and ... I don't know.

I'm kind of like Luna in that i like to add my own style to my clothes to make it more me and a little bit more unique. I can also be a little crazy or odd sometimes, but i'm just having fun and being myself.

If you could be Luna for a day, what would you do?

Hmm... Good question Insomnia! If i could be Luna for a day i would definitely want to take a tour around Hogwarts because that would be so cool. I'd also want a chance to hang out with her friends like Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, etc. Ohh and it would be neat getting to see all of the creatures that are mentioned in the books, especially some of the creatures that Luna believes in whether they're real or not. Other than those things i can't really think of much else. Can't wait to see what you guys will come up with!

How are you like Luna or not like Luna?
Well, I certainly have my own unique fashion sense like she does... One of my favorite outfits in high school was to wear jeans, a black short-sleeved shirt, a men's large Jeff Gordon long-sleeved shirt over that, a scarf that I made myself that was multi-colored (purple/green/blue/black), pink-orange-and-white-striped gloves, and to put my hair in braids with fake flowers stuck through the ponytail bands. If that's not odd, I don't know what is...

I also have a very "open" kind of mind. I don't know what's out there, or what might be the truth, so I just kind of accept a lot of things as "they might be possible." I like thinking out of the box a lot.

I would tour around Hogwarts for sure! I think that it would be fun to bring my own perspective to what she thinks and feels, and see if I can get other people to treat her a little better. I know that she doesn't mind, but maybe standing up for herself a little bit would still preserve her personality--her uniqueness!--and make it so that other people aren't quite so hurtful sometimes. Everyone has their own opinion, after all.

I would, for one, tour Hogwarts, of course. But I would try to go around and act weird around them just to see what it's like to be her. I mean, she gets the weird stares all the time, so I would do it anyway. I would hang out with everyone and, try to do a lot of magical things. But then I would probably spend time with her father. I mean, he has all these ideas about things, and I'd love to explore every aspect of it, even made up, because they had to have some kind of basis, do you know what I mean?

I think she was in fear for her father, like someone said, and for herself. Her ideas, intellect, and creativity, I think, are what kept her sane and not from being so much in fear of the Death Eaters. I think I would be pretty scared, as well, but she was brave, and she got through it in one piece.

I reckon she would have been her normal self. Slightly amused but not ruffled at all. I think Nargles and Crumple-Horned Snorkacks might have come up a few times but I honestly don't believe she would have been scared or anything. Look how she behaved in the Malfoy's cellar. Cool, calm and collected. I think...I haven't read that book in ages.

Oh gosh....I'd talk to her/my father! It'd be fascinating. I'd also like to be in one of her classes to see how others treated her. Then once I was back in my own body I'd stand up for her having had first hand experience at what she has to deal with from others.

I think we all have a little Luna inside us. The part of us that wants to believe Hogwarts exists is our Luna part. To be that confident in your own skin would be brilliant. I wish I was more like her....well except for the believing in things that may or may not actually exist.

What an interesting question; I would probably......*thinking*.........I would probably ride a threstal beings that would the only time I would actually be able to see one. I would also join Triad in standing up for Luna!!!

I would naturally want to just be her at Hogwarts so I can explore the castle. Then I could hang with her/my friends. I'd want to be her in the Order of the Pheonix, then I could attend a D.A. meeting. That would be really cool. It might be fun to ride and see a thestral too, but I think it would be fun to talk to her dad as some have already said. But mainly I'd just like to her her at Hogwarts and experience her life there for a day. It would be fun!

She probably told them all that the Nargles were going to get them . I think, inside, she might have been a bit scared, but all in all, she would have had faith in Harry to get her out eventually.

I'm like Luna because I believe in things that might not exist... Like Santa Claus. I believed in him for a LONG time. And magic. Not HP magic, but other kinds. And I'm also a bit random.

I think that she had such a great imagination that she saw them so clearly in her minds eye that she believed they were real. But some of them are probably wizarding legends that her father taught her were true.

Nice question, good to have me thinking... Um, if I could be Luna for a day, what would I do?
I'd love the idea of talking to Mr Lovegood, because he'd be amusing at least and could tell me lots of legends and odd tales (no one ever told me odd tales at home I had to read them myself). But I don't think taking a trip around Hogwarts is something inherent to Luna, because I could do that if I was any student, even if I was ... me, with magic But I think I'd be happier than usual, not annoyed with silly things but concerned on learning more and broading my mind every second a little bit more. It'd be really interesting. I'd also love fighting against the Carrows in DH's times, forming back the DA I could teach the Patronus!

I have wondered this myself, I guess this is one of those things in the magical and muggle world that can not be answered truely but only assumed.

What are you looking forward to in the upcoming movies, scenes involving Luna?

I'm not holding my breathe for some of the scenes that should be in the movies because they never keep the really good scenes like they should.

Even though Luna isn't actually in the scene, i'm looking forward to seeing the part when Harry, Ron and Hermione visit Luna's dad and they find the painting of them in her room and words saying "friends" around it. I really hope that they include this in the movie, because i think it shows how greatly Luna truly values her friends.
