I was just wondering ...

doesn't slytherin only accept pure-blood wizards into it's group???
Then how come voldy and prof.snape are in slytherin?

I just had a random thought, I don't know if it has already been explained in the book! : )

Good evening smile.gif

It is true that the book states that only pure-blood witches/wizards are admitted into Slytherin, but if you remember, Ron also says (cannot remember which book, sorry!) that there are not that many witches and wizards left, which is one of the reasons they started breeding with muggles. So that might have something to do with it, the house would be awful small if only pure-bloods where allowed in. Also, there are other traits associated with Slytherin, such as ambition smile.gif

Hope this helps you some!
Peace.

Slytherin was originally founded to only allow purebloods. But, as siruiuslyinlove just said, as time went on there became fewer and fewer pureblood wizards. If Slytherin only accepted purebloods they would have maybe 20 people in their whole house. Also, tom riddle was an orphan, and his lineage was unknown. So, there was no way of knowing if he was a pureblood. I'm guessing the sorting hat wouldn't be able to tell because being pureblood doesn't make you any more magical, or affect anything at all, so there would be no way of knowing. This is why voldemort is easily able to portray himself as pureblood.

The purebloods only rule was just something slytherin wanted. I don't think the sorting hat pays much attention to blood purity. Voldemort held all the qualities of slytherin house so the hat wasn't going to stop him go in the house that suited him best because of blood.
