Soo, am I the only one here who is totally infatuated by this phenomenon?

I just saw the new movie, and I LOVED it. Of course it had its downsides, but it definately gets 8½ out of 1o, which is pretty good in my book!

Any of you people that have seen/are going to see it? I'd love to hear your opinions on it, and any thing else Star Trek=)

Ooh. Well I'm not much of a trekkie but I've seen a few episodes here and there. I think that the movie was really well done not only because of the perfect casting or the special effects or the well-written script, but also because it appealed to both die-hard Star Trek fans as well as it appealed to those who knew very little about the franchise beforehand.

I think J.J. did a good job in terms of casting - with the exception of Simon Pegg (who played Scotty, the Cheif Engineer). The actor was a bit too over the top for me... I don't know though. Other than that I think the actors all worked really well together. And I was happy to see Leonard Nimoy reprise his role as the "future Spock" so that was nice, along with the fact that he makes an appearence in the season finale of Fringe (and may possibly become a recurring character in the next season!)

Anyway, I liked it. I would go see it again...

Nope, it certainly wasn't. In fact, it completely wiped out the entire TV series. It was playing on an alternate universe scenario, and I love that. They can start again if they want without the need to remain canon now.

I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

*jumps around* Trek! One of my first loves, thanks to my dad. It makes me happy how the new movie is bringing new fans to something I've been geeking about for so long. =)

I've seen Star Trek twice now, and loved it both times. Now, I had never seen the original series, so it was all kinda new to me now. Loved the casting, and I know just from pictures they made them look like the originals. It was confusing to me though, i admit. It was on my second time that everything clicked and I was like "Oh, okay, yeah, so, he went through the, and he did too, but, OHHHHH." haha.

Despite the fact that I wasn't ALIVE when Star Trek: The Original Series aired, I consider myself a Trekkie. I own ST:TOS, ST: TNG (The Next Generation), and ST: DS9 (Deep Space Nine) on DVD. I also own two stuffed Tribbles, LOL. So, to sum up, I'm pretty well versed in the stuff.

To be honest, I went into the theaters expecting the movie to suck. Or, not SUCK, but not live up to the standards I had set for it in my head. BOY, was I wrong! (And I had never been so happy to be wrong.) I thought this new movie did an excellent job of capturing the characters, and I was just overjoyed with it. (I <3 McCoy. Always have, always will. 'Nuff said.)

I don't know if you guys had heard yet, but the actors and actresses have signed on to make two more Star Trek movies. So, in short, there will be a ST: XII and ST:XIII sometime in the future. WOOT. On level with the show itself, Live Long and Prosper, Star Trek. <3

I was first captivated by Star Wars and was never really a trekkie. I was under the impression that you had to chose. As if you were a yankee fan there was no way on earth you could allow yourself to like Boston. I saw the film and was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it and will continue to see the movies for sure.

I can't do it Captain! I need more dilithium crystals!

I just watched Fern Gulley, and somehow this is the first time I've heard that. Huh, strange. This follows the "Red leader! Red leader!" line.

Well, I'm a TNG person, deep down. TOS was good (original series), but Picard just rocks. That's really what it is. "The only question I ever thought was hard, was do I like Kirk? or do I like Picard?".... Picard.

But, then a long comes Enterprise, which was just something else, and T'Pol is just too cool. And since I was alive for all of TNG, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise, and I'm a nerd, Star Trek is like a flashback to my childhood. And the movie, it really wasn't that bad. Especially the number of references to the original, which just made the nerds squee. Really, we squeed in theaters like chipmunks on hellium. Same reaction to HP, so maybe that's just a fangirl thing.

Yes, Picard. And the borg. Resistance is futile.

"Really? That sounds sort of..... Derivative."
