Full Version: Seeing Half-blood Prince In Imax

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I would like to know. Yesterday I went to theater near our house to see Night at the Museum. Then as an option at the ticket booth was to see it in IMAX. Apparantly they had just built an IMAX theater in the cinemas. As I passed the entrance to the IMAX I saw the two other films that would be shown on IMAX. Of course Half-Blood Prince was one of them. However it said to see HBP in IMAX 3D.

Does it really mean seeing it in 3D because previous films I have seen in 3D came out horrible? So I don't want my first view of it to be ruined because of the 3D effect. My main question is: Is it worth seeing it in IMAX?

My cousin said it is worth it. My brother's friend said you miss a bit because the size of the screen. What is your opinion for I have never seen a feature length film in IMAX?

I dont think its worth it at all. Its cool to see like nature shows and things in 3d, but full length movie its not worth it for me. The 3d just reminds you that you are in a theatre and it is alot harder to get lost in the film. Thats just what I think and im sure some people love it, but its just not for me

Harry Potter won't be in IMAX until Transformers 2 is done which will be 2 weeks after Harry Potter comes out! That will be July 29. This sucks.

Thanks! So I will order the tickets for the original film version.

Mod Edit: Quoting someone does not count as part of your post. Please make your posts the correct length in future.

I don't know about everyone else but I'm gonna see it the midnight showing in theatres and then 2 weeks later the midnight showing in IMAX.

Actually I discussed the plan with my parents and we decided to see the original version with my friend and then 3D version when my brother gets back from Governor's school. So, I will get both.

So I will be doing somewhat the samething as you.

I wish it was in IMAX when it first comes out instead of having to wait 2 weeks but I guess I'll live. lol

I thought the 3D effects were foggy and not worth it for OotP. Plus you have to put up with flashing goggles on the bottom of the screen to let you know when to put them on/off. It really disrupted the movie for me. I’d rather see the movie in the IMAX format without any 3D like GoF. That Quidditch match was awesome on the oversized screen.

***NEW INFO!! NEW UPDATE!!***

Looks like I will get my two wishes! The Omnimax theater at the Museum of Science & Industry will be showing the movie without delay starting with a midnight show AND zero 3D!

Omnimax never had a contract to show Transformers, it's not very educational. tongue.gif

I'll see tomorrow the IMAX version, but I've already seen the original one. Is it true that only the first few minutes are in 3D, then there's no need for the special glasses at all?
Well, I'm really looking forward to it, and not just because of the special effects, but also seeing the film for the 2nd time. Do you know anything about the last two films in IMAX, will there be a 3D version as well?

Well, actually, I saw HBP in IMAX3D the day it came out (July 15th) because I live in New York, which was where selected IMAX theatres were allowed to release it on the 15th. It was only 20 minutes of the movie and, yes, special glasses are required. It was not worth it to me! sad.gif 20 minutes seemed to go by so quickly, and the entire destruction of the bridge in 3D did not look all that cool. I must say that the death eaters looked very scary though..I can't remember clearly but I think the 3D scene ended with Harry in the restaurant flirting with that lady. blink.gif But, if you're willing to pay a few extra dollars to look it in 3D, then do it but don't expect too much out of that VERY short 20 minutes. dry.gif

So, finally I've seen it in 3D as well, and I really loved it! smile.gif It can be also beacuse the film for the 2nd time is much better, but anyway, the 3D scenes were great. The best was for me with the Death Eaters flying, however I expected far much more from the bridge falling down, it wasn't at all overwhelming, I didn't feel I'm there at all sad.gif But I must agree that the 15-20 minutes were too short, and getting used to the normal version after that wasn't easy.

I was glad the 3D was in the beginning, it didn’t interrupt the movie like OotP. It was better looking than OotP, since I didn’t notice foggy spots on the picture. The best part was following the Death eaters flight. The downside are the black outlines that mark foreground objects. It looked very coloring book at times.

Maybe DH will be entirely in 3D…

Do you know anything about this? Well, I don't know if they make a 3D version about both DH films, but it'd be fantastic! However, being realistic I suppose then it'd take another year or more, so I guess they'll remain at the normal version.
vortext
Sorry Axoria I don't know if it will be done. Just speculating. But if they could make a dumb film like Final Destination completely in 3D, why not DH? It would be a good lure for the audience. It might even make the never-ending camping scenes more tolerable! biggrin.gif
Axoria
Yes, you're right of course! I also want to see the whole in 3D biggrin.gif I was just wondering if we have any information regarding this, but if I have some I post it here! tongue.gif
The never-ending camping scenes laugh.gif Well said, it's indeed a bit long in the book, I'm eager to know how they will handle this problem, and at the same time hoping that they won't cut the whole happy.gif
