Hey, everyone!

In honor of the 6th movie coming out, we've decided to organize a forum-wide reread of the series! Starting on June 5th, we'll be reading Sorcerer's Stone and move on from there, starting a new book each Friday until we're finished!

Starting this Friday and continuing subsequent Fridays, you'll find a few new topics in this forum related to the book we are reading. The more the merrier, so join in the discussion! We'll see if we can spot new things about the series, recognize new clues about the ending, find new unanswered questions, and enjoy camaraderie with our fellow fans from the forums!

Please do not open up any topics in this forum. The mods will take care of that. We'd like to keep the topics fresh and new without repeating many that are found in the book forums already. This will be slightly difficult, but I think we can come up with new ones. . .or put a new spin on old ones. I'll open a thread for topic suggestions. If you have a topic you'd love to discuss, please post your idea in that thread. I'll even relax on the one-liner rule for THAT TOPIC ONLY.

Enjoy the reread, everyone! JUNE 5th: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!

im so excited about this i cant wait to start the reread i may get a headstart just in case my reading becomes busy
dchristen03
This is a really good idea! Great thinking passerby. Right now I'm rereading PoA but I can start all over again just for these VTM members. smile.gif Getting ready to read my old, battered copy of SS on Friday!
ladylila705
Ooh, I'm on the Gringotts chapter of DH...I am going to hurry up and finish reading it before Friday. Are we just starting the first book then on Friday?
Weaxzezz
Great timing, gives me just enough time to finish the book I'm reading right now (Mathematics: A Very Short Introduction) before going over to my summer tradition of reading the HP books. Although I usually read them all in one week, I'll try to slow it down tongue.gif
Just the Droobles
Yes, for this week we'll just be reading and discussing the first book. Then after that week we'll move on to the next book, and so on and so forth.

Be sure to throw in some ideas for topics if you have any! smile.gif
Ginny_Hermione
Ooh! This sounds great! biggrin.gif Though, I still haven't finished DH for the third time, and I've been meaning to finish my own reread (number 6) and start OotP. But, I can put those off some more ( tongue.gif ) and join in this. I'm finishing school Thursday so it's perfect timing!

Can't wait to start. smile.gif
Smothy
Sounds awesome. I'm well up for that. See you on friday! But I don't have internet at my flat, so you'll have to bare with me while I find spare time to go to the library. I have loads of shifts in work next week too sad.gif
monkeymushroom
I'm in, but i hope it won't take me too long to read the bigger books - 5 takes me longer than a week. Plus i've already started reading that book, i don't think i could read it again. But i'll try, anyway. I finish college soon so that will give me plenty of time to read the bigger books.
HPWanderer'09
This is such a great idea - i was waiting for a good excuse to re-read the whole series again! biggrin.gif

I cannot wait to start!! Bring on Friday!! tongue.gif

TheGoldenPhoenix
I was early! i just finished the series in May in prep for the sixth movie, but good for another go, when i did, i dint read the first one! and i hope that the Order of The Phoenix and Goblet of Fire dont take too long to read, it usually takes me a month and June 5th gives me time to finish the book im reading (Eragon)
CeShelLynn
Sounds fun! Count me in!
fleurdekaos
I'm in! I planned on reading them anyway in preparation for the movie this summer, don't know that i would have started from SS but i will now. Can't wait! smile.gif
Akikaza-chan
I had read through them all and have been on OotP for the last few months (dang school) and was about to start on HBP, but I'll be alright, starting over again. This should be fun! ^^

The only problem is that I have three GIGANTIC books to read for school and several projects to do on them, which may make this slightly hard... But I'll manage! After all Harry Potter before everything, right? (Or most things, at least...)

Just like last year I'll be spending my summer with my nose shoved in books! BRING IT ON!! woot.gif
Jenna
I just got the email telling me about this and I think it seems like a lot of fun - I'm in, I can't wait to start! happy.gif
babette-potter
It seems that everyone has had this idea, because me and my best friend have started a re-read biggrin.gif
I just started COS, but I'm more than happy to start again.
It might be a bit hard to read OotP in a week, but I'll try.
I cannot wait for the film biggrin.gif

I was thinking along those lines too, babette-potter...it's gonna be a challenge to read such a long book in such a short amount of time. Even the shorter ones will be hard in just a week, but it'll be fun trying. happy.gif

Let me look at the calender. We might be able to spend more time with OotP if we need to. My main goal is to be finished or at least starting HBP by the time the movie is released. Also, because we've all read the series at least once (and many more for most of you), I think it'll be easier to read through at a faster rate. We'll see.

I'll let you know when we get to it!

Thanks for your willing participation! Don't forget to suggest some topics!
Eisa
If I want to reread the books, I'm going to have to get to the library soon, because I don't own any. blush.gif Well, I own the first one, but it fell apart because I read it too many times. whistling.gif But I'll try! And at least participate as much as I can!

Actually, I believe that I will actually read slower! Hahaha because the first time that I read them, I was so anxious to know what happened next that I read them quickly. (I have a problem with pacing myself when it comes to books.) I've only read the DH once, and I've been meaning to read it again to go over the facts once more. Plus my mom got the book on audio tape, so I should read it even faster. I've been busy reading the Twilight saga and other books that I kind of forgot what happened in the books... I'm ashamed ermm.gif
basketballpro032
I will definitely be apart of this although my brother better find my copy of Goblet of Fire I let him borrow (he has never read the series...I got him to read the first 2 and most of the 3rd then he got busy with college) anyway he lost GOF in his apartment somewhere so he better find it before we get to it lol
Triad
I'll be lucky if I can read a chapter a day. I might have to stay up after the baby is in bed, at least then I can read uninterrupted and keep up!

I hired out the first three movies and while watching them I've remembered parts from the book that they left out, so now I really want to read them again just to make sure I wasn't thinking of something else. biggrin.gif

Since my Friday starts tomorrow does that mean I can start before the rest of you? tongue.gif That might help me keep up! Lol.
monkeymushroom
That's a point! It's 7 o clock on thursday evening where i am. Tomorrow i shall start on the first book - it will probably take me a few days. I've already read through half of Ootp, so i think what i'll do is leave the rest until we get to that book. That way i'll be able to finish it in time (hehe, i'm so cunning)
I remember the first time i ever read Ootp, it took me two weeks exactly, and i was on holiday so i was reading all the time (it's such a big book).
Hopefully, i should be finishing my exams in two weeks time, so i'll have more time to read books 3 to 6.
ChannelingGinny
I'm quite chuffed about everyone getting into the books again! I just finished reading SS, CoS and PoA and decided to wait until we all get to GoF to start it. I may just go back and re-read SS to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Triad - I'm with you on the movies vs. books. They certainly left out a lot, added other bits and completely changed certain things, but hey, I guess that's what makes things interesting. My son can take reading tests at school on books that he's read. You get points for passing a certain percentage of the test (and if you get too many questions wrong you don't get any points) and at the end of the year whoever has the highest points gets an award. ANYWAY, the tests are multiple choice and on the HP tests some of the possible answers came from the movies, so if you only watched the movie and tried to take the book test you'd get the answers wrong! Pretty sneaky.

Let's get reading!
passerby
OK! Everyone who is now awake! Time to start "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"! Dive in! Read on! Keep chugging through! We'll be opening topics periodically through the weekend for discussion on the book that started it all!

Thanks for your participation!

basketballpro032
It's 1:00 a.m. here but I am still going to start reading it now. Am I the only one up besides Passerby? I can read this book in a couple hours. Any of the books I can finish in a day if I need to but I usually try to slow down when I read them now although when I first got Deathly Hallows I read most of the book in one day but decided that I should put off reading the final chapters of the book until the next day lol. I didn't want the series to be over. I was actually reading this fan-made sequel to Harry Potter by someone named G. Norman Lippert. It's actually not bad to be fan-made. Happy reading everyone.
DeSs
sad.gif I've got an exam on Monday (and I honestly haven't got into the books that hard yet) so I can't start today! I hope I could do it next week, but final works and writings are already hanging above us! But I think it's a great idea, we needed a reason to keep talking and don't let the fire die! Great questions the ones I've read! thumbsup.gif
rach2603
I have 4 exams this week- but I could read HPPS quickly in revison breaks!
I am quite happy that there are going to be new topics biggrin.gif
I always mean to start rereading the whole series but something always props up and i never get past the 1st 3 books!
I can't remember the last time I read the 3rd and 4th books- that's bad for me lol

Happy reading guys
Snapefan21
This is a great way to put off studying for exams, which I might add are in ... oh lord, 12 days! eeek.gif I'll start reading PS tonight, and I read quite fast, so I should be done tomorrow. If I don't show up here to post by Sunday that probably means I've died due to lack of sleep from studying tongue.gif .
IaPotterLvr

Ready...set... I'm reading! It's like I've been waiting for a reason to re-read and Veritaserum came through for me! I'm so excited about seeing the new movie that only going over the books again will keep me from exploding! Happy Reading All!!
HarryPotterNut
I am definatley in. This is a great idea, and I can't wait for the movie! Bring it on!!!!! happy.gif
Linux felicis
Great idea... if I owned a copy of the Philosopher's Stone. Unfortunately I only got The Prince and The Hallows. I borrowed the first books from the library and decided to buy only the last two. I think the first book is the one closest linked to the last so it'll be very useful to revise. Count me in. Whereas I cannot reread the book I'm going to test my memory and see how well I remember and if I fail some questions, you fellow readers will help me remember, won't you? I've already got a question for you: What does Dumbledore see when he looks in the Magic mirror? shutup.gif (sh...t I can't even remember what it's called)
I must be the most frustrated member here wacko.gif Although I am a book worm, my boyfriend prefers the films and he will not allow me to tell him what happens next. That's why I'm looking forward to the new film, so I can tell him all the delicious little details that are always left out from the film.
Is it me or there are too many trailers of the film out there? If you combine them all you'll have almost the entire movie... OK, OK I did say almost.
basketballpro032
I'm awake and about to start reading now. How many people have already started reading Sorcerer's Stone? I want to finish it today.
Hellen Malfoy
Can't wait to start this!
Stacey
I reread all the books recently but now I have a good excuse to start reading them all again smile.gif
MagicTrioFan11
Ohh this is such an awesome idea! I'm so excited to reread the series again, hope that i can keep up as the books get thicker happy.gif . I think i'll end up reading the sorcerer's stone this weekend outside since the weather is going to be nice, this is going to be so much fun. Happy reading guys!
basketballpro032
How much has everyone read so far? I read a whole chapter LOL! I got busy today so I wasn't able to read but for a few minutes. I'm gonna try and get a lot more read before the night is over.
HPWanderer'09
So far i've read about 5 chapters - only because the weather in Ireland is really awful at the moment.
It's like a trip down memory lane! Very nostalgic i think biggrin.gif
Its reminded me just how much i love the whole HP series biggrin.gif
I'm always amazed at the amount of little details you miss when you're reading a book for the first time - im always rushing to see what happens next!
For example, i completely forgot that Dumbledore has a scar above his left knee shaped like the London Underground biggrin.gif Any ideas how he got it?
I cant wait to read more!!
crawford_todd
I am pretty pumped that somebody came up with this idea. I haven't been around the forums for a while since the release of the last book, but with this mass email sent around suggeseting the re-reads I'll happily join in. I don't have a lot of people around that I can get into the books with, so thanks to all of you folks.
rebel_megz
Wow I am so behind! It's Sunday and I haven't started! Five more days... I can do this!
DracosLady
Gee well I re-read books one thrue three not too long ago but I have'nt re-red five thru seven in awhile, but hey I'm game for this so lets get the party started!
Tarmie
XD I'm 2 days late, but I'm in. thumbsup.gif ... I just have to find my books first ... whistling.gif
rach2603
Sounds majorly wierd- but imagine how cool it would be if you forgot to the whole series and reread it again?
I mean I would be able to sit there days on end reading one book after another without having to wait for the next book. And you could enjoy alkl those twists again, and be shocked when something is revealed and your mind immediately goes bacjk to a huge clue in a previous book!

If that happened I would definately reread the all the books first and then the watch all the films.
lol

It'd be the coolest thing ever! I'd do that too, reading first then watching the movies, but reading the whole series first. Oooh, that's glory!! To get amazed with every clue, every new thing, make up silly theories (like the one I thought while reading GoF... I was in the first chapter and already making theories!)...

I'm done with this exam now, but I've got lot of final works to start... anyway, I'll read PS tonight!
Jake Payle
Yay! I can use my memorizing HP books for the good! I've started! Thanks for the opportunity, but are we going to have to read OofP in a week?
basketballpro032
I have just finished Goblet of Fire and watched the movie version and couldn't help noticing so many things they either left out or changed in the movie. Dobby, Winky, and Ludo Bagman wasn't in the movie for some reason. They didn't show anything that Harry faces in the maze. The movie could and should have been much much better but oh well. I still like it. The graveyard scene is still one of my favorites of the first 5 movies.
