First I would like to thank Triad, for allowing me to start this thread.

I'd like to say that we can discuss all SYTYCD television programs here. I will be talking about Season 5 here in the U.S. We can make references to other seasons as well. Let's make it interesting too by giving links to performances, this would make it more fun.

For those of you who haven't seen the show before and would like to start watching it, let me recap how the show goes. Each Wednesday from now until the finale (at the end of the summer) these couples will be performing to routines by various talented and renowned choreographers. Like with American Idol, the public will vote for their favorite couple(s) after the performances. On Thursday, the three couples with the lowest number of votes will be announced. Each week the six contestants comprising the bottom three couples are given a chance to perform solo routines in the hopes of convincing the judges to keep them in the competition. The judges then decide which dancers stay and which two are eliminated. If a couple is split apart, the two individual dancers who remain become a couple the following week.

Last week the top 20 were selected and this past Wednesday they performed as couples for the first time. On Thursday, the first girl and the first guy was eliminated. Personally, I thought that two of the three couples in the bottom 3 should have been in the bottom, I felt the other 8 couples out-performed them. Still, they did well, but someone has to leave every week!

I'm not sad that that Paris and Tony left. I thought that their routine was boring, and when Tony had to Dance for his Life, I was unimpressed. I didn't know why he didn't go out there are try a bit harder...it looked to me as it he was just bouncing around stage...

I was just tired of looking at Paris...

But I really like Kupono. I think that's how you spell it. He's very talented. I haven't really picked out a girl I like...no one is really coming to mind. I'm more attracted to make dancers anyway.

I haven't yet picked out a favorite male or female yet this season. There does seem to be a lot of talent this time around, though.

Although, there are a couple of females that caught my attention: the 29 year old and the older sister of the two girls that tried out (younger sister didn't make it to the top 20). I'm sorry but I'm horrible with names. Maybe by next week I'll know them.

The guy that does Broadway style dance, had the older brother, I really like him. At least, I think he's so sweet and such a cutie. Not sure if he's the most talented dancer among the boys, though.

Anyway, I love this show. Been watching it since it first came out. Even my husband likes to watch it with me, even though you couldn't get him to dance to save his life. I wish they had this kind of thing when I was younger because I LOVE to dance. Ah, they probably wouldn't have had room for a country dancer anyway. Ha ha.

I haven't really chosen my favorites from among the contestants ~ girl or guy. But, whoever the girl I choose has to be as good or better than Courtney Galliano from last season. I just loved Courtney, she was my pick to win the competition, but she didn't instead Joshua won.

I just loved Courtney last season and the girl that "fills her shoes" this season will have to be extraordinary.

I haven't found a favorite couple yet, it's still early in the season. But I'm a HUGE SYTYCD fan, I've been watching since Season 2 (Season 1 was ruined for me because of the terrible host) and I went on the SYTYCD tour last year and I'm making plans to go again this year.

Right now, I think this top 20 isn't as exciting as last seasons yet. They have some big shoes to fill from last season because they were such a talented group. Speaking of last season, I loved Chelsea Hightower, Mark, Jessica and Twitch as my top four. Seeing them dance live was probably one of my best expirences, especially how I'm a dancer myself it was so cool.

This season, the top 20 show didn't really make a BAM effect on me. The routines were definitely good and I loved most, but then some of them were just eh to me. I think as the season progresses I'll find a favorite couple, it was only the opening show.

I have a question for you SYTYCD lovers: whose your favorite choreographer on the show?

I really like Sonya Tayeh's jazz routines. The routine performed by Courtney Galiano and Mark, "The Garden" was really interesting. I find Sonya very quirky and unusual, but refreshing! I look forward to watching this seasons contestants perform to her choreography.

I really, really, really LOVED the samba routine choreographed by a season 2 top ten contestant, Dimitry Chaplin. The dance is performed by one of my favorite season 3 contestants, Lacey Schwimmer and Danny. The music is "Hip Hip Chin Chin" by Club Des Belugas.

Mia Michaels choreographs great routines, but her personality sometimes turns me off. I can't believe she was so mean to this seasons contestant, Brandon. IMO, ahe got pretty personal and Mary Murphy got pretty miffed with her. Had Mia said to me what she said to him I think I would have lost control and said some unladylike words to her. Of course, I probably wouldn't have made the top 20. But not only did Brandon did make it to the top 20, he made it through to next week! Good for him.

Insomnia, the guy who does the Broadway style is Evan. Just for future reference. I don't know girls' names though!

I kind of stopped paying attention to last season... but I know there were some crazy-good dancers on there. I heard Twitch is actually going to have a lead role in an upcoming movie. (I want to say a third installment of Step Up, but I'm not sure)

My favorite choreographer from the show is usually Wade Robson. (or however it's spelled...) His dances are always so unique and cool...they just captivate me. The one last week with the crash dummies...it was all right. Still cute and I liked the theme, but he's had better ones. I think Mia Michaels has some ridiculously gorgeous routines. One that comes to mind was a couple seasons ago (the one Benji won) when Heidi and Travis did the dance with the bench. Oh it was sooo good. Loved it.

I think Mary has gone a little bit more loopy this year. She's just so loud and AAHH!!! I just don't want her to start going stupid like Paula Abdul.

I haven't been to this thread recently ... and neither has anyone else for that matter! ... but, I decided to post the YouTube link to one of the best Mia Michael's contemporary routines I have ever seen on the show. It was last weeks performance by Evan and Randi. It's danced to "Koop Island Blues" by Koop featuring Ane Brun. It will forever be known as the "butt" dance number!

So, what does everybody think of those who have been voted off the past four weeks? Personally, I was glad to see Auska go, I just didn't enjoy her dancing for some reason.



I LOVED that routine, so incredibly much. I was rooting for Lacey to win season 3 and I was so sad when she came in fourth. But still, she's such a thrill to watch dance. I believe she's gone professional now, I know she was on Dancing With the Stars.

As for the 'butt dance' HA. I loved it. I'm such a huge SYTYCD fan, I even follow Mia Micheals and Adam Shankman on Twitter

I LOVED Sonya's contemporary piece this week too, with Kayla and Kupono. They're one of my favorite couples, for sure.

The couples remaining after Karla and Vitolio were eliminated last Thursday are:
• Randi and Evan
• Janette and Brandon
• Kayla and Kupono
• Melissa and Ade
• Jeanine and Phillip
• Caitlin and Jason

So far Randi/Evan, Janette/Brandon and Melissa/Ade haven't been in the bottom 3. My prediction as to who will be in the bottom 3 next week (unless they really out do themselves): Caitlin/Jason, Jeanine/Phillip and either Kayla/Kupono or Melissa/Ade. If these are the bottom couples, then I'll go out on a limb and say that Caitlin and Jason will get cut.

If I'm not mistaken, once we get to the top ten then the viewers will vote for the individual dancer rather than for a couple. IMO, I think that Janette, Kayla and Randi are the strongest female contestants and Brandon and Evan are the strongest male performers. It's still early to say who I think is going to be in the top 3 or 4, let alone the winner of this seasons competition, so I'll wait another 2-3 weeks before committing.
