Hey! I just finished reading the series of Percy Jackson and I officially love the books. It is so interesting! The way that the Greek gods and Olympus are still around in Western Civilization is so cool. All of the Greek monsters are real too! So does anybody here read the books? If so what are your thoughts and how well has Rick Riordan done on his writing?

Hey! I've read this series, and I think it's marvelous! I believe Rick Riordan is a very good author, and his stories each had a great plot, and the characters were so funny! I began reading this series...well, I don't know how long ago, but it may have been a year. I was hooked immediately: Greek myths have always been so exciting and romantic to me! I couldn't put any of the books down.

Did you know he might be coming out with another Camp Half-Blood series? At least, that's what it seems like.

Yes, I noticed that in the acknowlegdements that it said that "This ends the first series of Camp Half Blood" or something like that. I honestly think I started to hyperventilate. It was a very romantic series wasn't it? Who is you favourite character and Greek monster? I loved Annabeth and Tyson, and my favourite monsters are the hellhounds and the hippocampi! They are descibed so beautifully!
Sister to the Dark Lord
Favourite character? Mrs O'Leary, hands down. She's the best. Nico's pretty cool too. And yes, BasiliskFang, the acknowledgements did say "This is the end of the first Camp Half-Blood series". Rick Riordan did cue up things very well, he left enough for the series to be concluded if he don't want to continue, but left enough open to still have a good plot for another series. Very cool.

And now, a question for the shiny new thread:

If you were a halfblood, what Olympian would you like to have as your parent?
BasiliskFang
Don't judge me, but I would kind of like to be a child of Aphrodite. I would really like to be a child of the Big Three because I would have independence. Aw, heck. I wouldn't care who's kid I was, I would just like to be a half-blood...without the deadly encounters of course! tongue.gif
ravenclaw_chick
My favorite character...Well, Percy of course. But I also liked Annabeth. And their relationship. But you know who I never liked? Rachel Elizabeth Dare. I honestly thought she was a huge brat, and was in the way of Percy and Annabeth's love/hate relationship.
My favorite Greek monster....hmmm... I've always liked Minataurs (yes, I spelled it wrong) because they're so interesting, with their half-human, half-beast bodies. I also liked the hippocampi! They seem like fun.

If you were a halfblood, what Olympian would you like to have as your parent?

I would want to be a child of Athen. I would be smart and, well, pretty, too! wink.gif I wouldn't mind being a child of any of them, so long as I was a half-blood! biggrin.gif

Hey, I read this series, and thought it was awesome. I'd never really been involved in reading greek mythology or anything, but this series made me go out and pick up books like Mythology for Dummies. All of his stories were brilliant and very well tied in to each other.

My favorite character is without a doubt Annabeth. She really shows girl power and how we aren't go to put up with sexism and bow down to guys. Plus, she's smart and I'm stubborn like her so I'm not annoyed by her. Rachel was plain annoying so she doesn't get anything from me.

All of the monsters were wicked (when I say that I don't mean evil), but I thought the hippocampi sounded beautiful, and the Ophiotaurus was really cool.

If you were a halfblood, what Olympian would you like to have as your parent?

Either Athena or Ares. Apollo wouldn't be too bad either. Athena because she's super smart and I would never be in a pickle. tongue.gif Ares because he's tough as anything, and I would love to have that kind of exterior. Apollo... because he's just cool like that! biggrin.gif

I saw that in the acknowledgements too! That's really the only explanation for what he said because anything else wouldn't make sense for him to say that without meaning that another series was on its way. Plus, he still has the next great prophecy to play out. And Percy and Annabeth only just started going out so we have to see more of that.

Hades. I find the whole death thing facinating. I've never been afraid of death, after all, for the great mind death is just another adventure. Plus, as I said before, my two favourite characters [Nico and Mrs O'Leary] are both part of the Underworld. biggrin.gif

Yay, Hades. He's got such a dynamic personality as well.

Cheers,

I loved the Percy Jackson books, I'm hoping for another series, between the note and the new prophecy it sounds like there will be another one.

Favorite character is either Annabeth or Nico, although I liked Zoe and Thalia a lot as well, but they weren't in it much which was disappointing. Rachel was okay, I liked her in the first one she was in but not so much in the others.

If you were a halfblood, what Olympian would you like to have as your parent?

On one hand I say Apollo because I like archery and he was funny. Hades would be cool as well, they have neat powers but I wouldn't be thrilled with people always trying to kill me. Some of the lesser gods would be cool as well, Aeris (Chaos) maybe.

If you had the choice to fight one Greek monster, what would it be? Why?

I would like to fight the Minotaur because it is one of the stupider monsters and it was Percy's first, so it might be easier than Enchilinda (sp), the Sphinx or the Manticore! They would all be difficult, but the Minotaur would be my first choice!

Yesterday, while seeing the Hbp movie, there was a small teaser trailer for Percy Jackson: Lightning Thief. The guy who plays Percy looked like he was sixteen already though, not twelve. I'm not quite sure how the special effects will be considering that Olympus looked like it could be in a video game or cartoon in my opinion. I'm really psyched that they are finally moving forward on this project, though!

That is so exciting! Maybe some of the people that worked on Harry Potter will give them a few special effect tips! Did it say when it was going to be released? Hopefully soon!

Now a new question:

Which book was your favourite and why?

Good luck!

Yea, it's coming out President's Day 2010.

If you look it up on the imdb website it gives you all the details on who's who, and I must say that it has quite a number of famous people in it at first glance. Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson...

And Percy's actor is actually seventeen this year. I looked up the first book and he's supposed to be twelve. TWELVE!

Which book was your favourite and why?

I'm not really sure. I'll reread them all some time, and get back to you on that. I thought the Sea of Monsters was really good, I'm not sure if it's my favorite though.

I have heard loads about this series! My sister and my cousins are obsessed with them. Every time they find an animal or amphibian they name it after one of those characters. laugh.gif But they tell me that the books are awesome. Now I want to read them really badly. Next time I'm at the library I'm going to check out the first book.
hot-for-harry
You should definitely check the books out. They make for an awesome read, and like Harry Potter, the author (Rick Riordan) makes a whole world inside the book that you start to care about and that is really cool. Plus, the characters are very believable and they are people that everyone can relate to in some way or another.

Even though this book includes a lot of Greek mythology, you don't have to know a single thing about mythology in the first place. Everything is explained to such an extent that you are not going to be left with any questions!

Awesome books!

I read the first one so far, so I will not go further into this discussion for a while. I will keep you all posted on my readings and what I think on each of them. So far Lightening Thief was pretty cool. I love the concepts and how that author can apply it to mondern day in the US. Anways my favorite character is Annabeth. Oh and that Lotus Cash place is creepy.
