Hey guys, some of you may remember that I had a story here about three, maybe two, years ago called 'Do I Love You', this story is a rewrite, or a 'what that story should have been' since that story basically had no plot, and I loved the characters. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1

Lily Evans and her two best friends Neassa O’Brian and Amanda Smith were walking down the castle hallway to the grounds for break, talking and laughing the whole way there. Neassa, who was Irish, was tall and slim like the other two, had light blond hair chopped a little past her shoulders, and bangs cut a centimeter above her black lined emerald eyes that were about a shade darker than Lily’s. Lily had fiery red hair which she never pulled back, and though she was normally very sweet, a temper to match. Amanda had shoulder length reddish-brown hair that she usually wore half back, her eyes were a pretty chocolate brown, and the softest dusting of freckles covered her face.

“I love it when it’s Ness's turn to take notes,” Lilly giggled

“Why?” Neassa asked, “You always end up finding someone else’s notes to copy because mine aren’t good enough.”

“Because watching you try to pay attention in Binn’s class is hilarious,” Lily said as if she were explaining that two plus two equaled four.

“You laugh now, but next time you need help in Charms see if I help you,” Neassa teased.

When they reached the courtyard, Lily sat on a rock and pulled out a copy of Potion Making Weekly, and Neassa and Amanda sat on the ground next to her. Neassa was filing her nails, and Amanda was reading a book called The Sorceress and the Muggle.

Shouting from under the large pear tree about one hundred yards from the girls caused all three to look up. A tall muscular boy with messy black hair and glasses was taunting a smaller, greasy haired boy, flicking his wand and causing warts to appear on his sallow face.

“James Potter, leave him alone,” Lily shouted as she stormed over to where the boy, James and his friends Remus, Sirius, and Peter were sitting.

“Ah, but Lily, love, we were just getting to the best part,” James said smiling and flicked his wand, causing Snape, the boy he was tormenting, to hang upside down from his ankles.

Lily threw herself at James and tried to wrestle the wand out of his hand, shouting every insult she could think of. Finally when she held James’ wand she hissed “Liberacorpus.” Snape fell to the ground with a thud. Lily made a disgusted face and threw the wand back to James before she stormed across the grounds into the castle.

“Go out with me Evans?” James called after her.

“No,” she shouted without looking back.

“Aw come on Evans, you know you enjoyed that.”

“Potter, you just so happen to be the biggest moron I know, so no, I will not go out with you.”

“Ouch, Evans, that hurts.”

“Shut up, idiot,” was the last thing Lily yelled across the grounds before storming into the castle.

“As always” Neassa whispered to Amanda as Lily ran inside. “I’ll talk to James, you get Lily”

It was a plan they had come up with at the beginning of their 5th year, when Lily and James’ fights had become daily, Amanda, the more sympathetic went after Lily to listen to her ranting about James, while Neassa, the more sarcastic, edgy one went to either listen to what James had to say, or yell at him.

Neassa walked up to James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter, “What did I do wrong Ness?” James asked her, wide eyed.

Neassa laughed “What did you do wrong? Oh, I don’t know, I thought Lils would be impressed by you dangling a fellow classmate in the air by his ankles, I really don’t know where you went wrong!” she said sarcastically.

“But Ness, I don’t know what else to do,” James said pleadingly “I think I love her,”

“Love her, James! You don’t even know her.” Neassa stated exasperatedly “Look, James, maybe it just wasn’t meant to be,”

“Ness,” James said softly as she turned away.

“What James,” Neassa said calmly.

“Tell her I’m sorry,” he said.

Neassa nodded and ran back to the castle where Amanda was attempting to calm Lily down.

“He’s an idiot, Lils, we all know that, just try to ignore him,” Amanda was saying when Neassa walked in.

“He said he was sorry,” Neassa said quietly.

“What?” Lily asked blankly.

“He said he was sorry,” Neassa repeated.

“Haha very funny Ness this is James we’re talking about, he’s not sorry about anything.”

“He just wanted me to tell you,” Neassa said.

“Good, well, can you tell him to ‘go to hell’ from me.”

“I’m not an owl, Lils, you can tell him yourself.”

“Come on girls,” Amanda said when the bell rang a few seconds later, “we have Transfiguration next; you know how McGonagall gets when we’re late.”

“I know, I know,” Neassa said dragging her friends off to class with her.

When they reached the Transfiguration room the girls took their usual seats in the second to last row and pulled out their textbooks.

“Ok class, turn to chapter 15 on page 426, The Conjuring Spell. Now, this spell is one of the most difficult spells you will learn in you years at Hogwarts. It will require intense concentration, focus, and nice of you to join us boys!” The girls looked up. Attempting to sneak their way to the back of the class room were James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter, who now wore looks of embarrassment as they sat down in the last row.

“Sorry Professor,” they mumbled in unison.

McGonagall glared at them for a moment and then said “If it happens again it will be detention. Now, where was I. Oh yes! This spell requires immense concentration, so if you aren’t going to take it seriously you might as well leave this class right now…”

Neassa felt someone kick the back of her chair, and as if it was a reflex motion she stuck her hand out behind her chair, and she felt a piece of parchment being shoved into it.

Did we miss much?

James, I thought you knew better than to ask me that question, you know how much I pay attention

So, I’m thinking we need an emergency Quidditch practice after school today…what do you think?

I’m with you…James, we stink.

You think I don’t know that? I’m just going to have to start getting tougher on them, aren’t I?

Um, yes, James, I don’t think I can take losing to Malfoy again.

Me either, so can you spread the word?

Of course!

Ness, you are fantastic.

I know.

Neassa turned her attention back to the front of the class room where McGonagall was writing the spell on the black board, and began to take notes.

Here's chapter two everyone, it's not too long, but I like it

At eleven-thirty that night Lily could be found in the palace kitchens, sitting cross-legged on one of the tables eating mint chocolate-chip ice cream out of the carton.

“Anything else you need miss?” one of the house elves asked her, bowing.

“No, no I’m fine,” Lily said smiling, “you can go relax, really,”

“A house elf’s work is never done miss,” the elf said before walking away.

The door to the kitchens banged open. “Master Potter,” another of the elves called

“Keely, the usual, please,” a familiar male voice called. Lily looked up, only to see the very familiar face of James Potter looking back at her. “Evans, what a surprise, never seen you down here!”

“And you won’t ever again,” Lily said standing up, leaving the ice cream on the table. “Thank you very much,” she called over her shoulder to the elves.

“Whoa, Evans, hold up,” James said, blocking her way to the door “Look, if this is about today, listen.”

“No Potter, it’s not just about today, it’s about yesterday and the day before that and the day before that.”

“Just stay, please, have dinner with me,” he begged.

“We already had dinner, idiot,” Lily pointed out rolling her eyes.

“Midnight snack?” he asked.

Lily’s eyebrows scrunched together as she scanned James’ face. “Sure,” she gave in a moment later.

“Great,” James smiled and held out his arm. Lily contemplated it for a moment then shook her head “Too cheesy?” he asked

Lily laughed. “Just a little,” and she sat down next to him on the bench, “So, do you come down here every night?”

“Most nights, usually only after we fight,”

“So pretty much every night?” Lily smiled

“Well, when you look at it that way,” James winked.

“Your food Master Potter,” the elf, Keely, said setting down a tray in front of the two students.

“A pig…a whole pig, every night?” Lily asked in disbelief.

“I’m a growing guy, aren’t I?” he said. “Help yourself to whatever you like.”

“No, I’m good with my ice cream,” Lily said taking another bite of her ice cream.

“If you’re sure,” he said digging in to his food.

Lily watched him for a minute “You’re disgusting,” she finally commented.

“Thank you,” he said with a mouth full of food.

She smiled at him, “So how’s Quidditch going?” When he opened his mouth, still full of food, to answer, she added quickly, “you can finish chewing first,”

“Are you actually interested?” he asked when he finished his bite of pork.

“Well, Ness is into it and Mandy follows it, so I’ve learned to fake an interest,” Lily answered smiling.

“Well, for your fake interest, it’s pathetic; we are up for the humiliation of the century on Sunday.”

“You can’t be that bad,” she argued.

“You haven’t seen us play then, have you?”

“No, I can’t say I have.”

“Well, we’ll have to fix that, won’t we?”

“If you’re really that bad, it’s probably not worth my time.”

“We’re not all that bad, Ness and Sirius are good, the other chaser, Chloe, is only on the team because she’s the only other one who managed to stay on her broom during trials. Britt and Gi are good beaters, but that’s because they’re twins and have that freaky reading minds thing going on, keeper sucks, don’t know why I put him on the team to be honest, and then, of course, there’s me, the best seeker in the history of the sport,” James explained.

“You are a conceited jerk,” Lily said smacking him playfully on the shoulder.

“Of course I am! I mean, look at me. What’s not to love?” he teased.

“Ha ha, very funny,” she said digging the last of the ice cream out of the container “Well, it was really nice talking to you, James,” she paused. “I should go.”

“Talk to you later?” James asked.

“Probably not,” Lily admitted.

“Why?” he asked, looking hurt.

“Because tomorrow you’ll be back to your pig-headed, idiot, jinxing people just for the fun of it, self,” Lily said, and left James alone with the house elves.

Chapter 3

“No no no, put that card there!”

“Not there, you idiot, it’ll never stay up.”

“Yes it will, here…ahh.”

When Lily made her way up to the girls’ dormitories she found Neassa and Amanda in a very intense game of exploding snap.

“You two are going to wake up the whole castle,” Lily teased, sitting cross legged on Neassa’s bed to join the game.

“No worries, Lils,” Amanda said leaning back on the pillows. “Ness cast Muffliato.”

“Why am I not surprised?” Lily laughed laying out a foundation for the card castle.

“So…where were you tonight?” Neassa asked.

“Nowhere.”

“Oh yeah, sure, Lily. If you’re going to lie to us at least do it convincingly,” Amanda snorted.

“You were with a guy weren’t you,” Neassa exclaimed, the deck of cards exploded but she just pushed them away. “Lily Evans was out late with a guy. Omigod you have to tell me everything. Is he cute, what’s his name, do we know him, what house is he in, does he play quidditch or is he the dorky brainy type, what year is he in, is he cute, oh I think I already asked that. Tell me everything!”

“Merlin, Ness, one question at a time,” Amanda laughed.

“Ness, it’s not what you think,” Lily explained patiently.

“He’s not in Slytherin is he?” Neassa asked looking disgusted.

“Oh God no,” Lily said automatically.

“So there is a guy,” Amanda winked.

“Yes I was with a guy, but nothing happened, it’s not like that,”

“Come on Ness,” Amanda said, climbing off of Neassa’s bed and into her own. “Let’s get some sleep, you’ll have plenty of time to interrogate Lils in the morning.”

“Whatever,” Neassa said and fell back on her pillows. Lily changed into her
pajamas and slid into her bed.

“Wake up Lily,” a voice called. Lily felt something smack her in the face.

She opened her eyes and saw Neassa, fully dressed, standing over her with a pillow.

“Ness, I’m going to kill you,” Lily said pressing a pillow over her head.

“Now Lils,” another voice called pulling the pillow off of her head “You’re going to miss breakfast,” Lily looked up and saw Amanda brushing her shoulder-length, red-brown hair and pulling it half back.

“I’m up, I’m up,” Lily groaned, swinging her legs out from under her covers and changing from her pajamas into the same gold blouse, short black skirt, black tights and cloak her friends were wearing. She ran a brush through her red hair and pushed her bangs to the side, and finally she rubbed on some foundation, mascara, and lip gloss.

“Come on, and don’t think I’ve forgotten about last night, tell me everything, and start with who the heck is he,” Neassa said, pulling Lily down the stairs into the common room with her.

“Well, look who we have here. It’s my three favorite girls,” a voice greeted them at the bottom of the stairs, saving Lily from Neassa’s questioning.

“But I’m your favorite right,” Neassa said leaning up to kiss him on the cheek.

“Now Ness, love, you know I don’t like to play favorites,” Sirius Black said
rubbing her lower back quickly and letting her go to hug Amanda.

“Sirius we haven’t seen you in forever, what happened?” Amanda asked.

“Andreina Vane, happened,” Neassa answered before Sirius could.

“Apparently she’s a jealous girlfriend.”

“You stopped talking to us because your latest girl wouldn’t let you,” Amanda said smacking his chest.

“Don’t worry, Mandy I broke up with her, the theory that you three were secretly trying to seduce me was getting a little old.”

“But in Neass’s case she was completely correct,” Lily said spoke for the first time.

“Really?” Sirius said offering Lily a hug which she turned down. “Well I’ll be looking forward to the execution of that plan,” he winked at Neassa who blushed. “But Ness, it is you who I’ve come to talk to, do you have a free period after breakfast?”

“Er yeah why?” Neassa said

“Because James called an emergency quidditch practice.”

“Great we need it,” Neassa said running back up to the dormitories. “Wait for me!”

About a half second later she ran back down with her quidditch bag in her left hand. “Come on, I want to grab some breakfast before I go down to the pitch,” she took Sirius’s arm and pulled him out of the common room.

“God it is so obvious they like each other,” Lily said watching Neassa and Sirius.

“Are you serious?” Amanda asked her rolling her eyes.

“What?” Lily asked, it was obvious that Neassa and Sirius liked each other. They had known each other for ages and they could practically finish each other’s sentences, they flirted constantly, and every time Sirius found a new girlfriend the hurt on Neassa’s face seemed evident to everyone but him.

“Never mind, come on,” Amanda said, laughing inwardly.

The rest of Friday and all of Saturday the only time Lily and Amanda saw Neassa or any other member of the Gryffindor quidditch team was during class and mealtimes. Every free period and every second after school had ended on Friday Neassa, Sirius, James, Bridgette, Brittany, Chloe, and Jack were on the pitch practicing together. On Saturday while Lily, Amanda, her boyfriend Remus, a seventh year named Frank Longbottom, and a fifth year named Melissa Bell sat under the large pear tree doing their homework, the seven members of the Gryffindor quidditch team practiced.

On Sunday, Lily, Amanda, and Neassa got up at seven a.m. and began to get dressed. “So Ness, are we going to win the match today?” Amanda asked.

“God I hope so,” Neassa answered while she stood in front of her mirror lining her eyes with a lot of black eyeliner “James, Sirius, Britt, Gi and I went out after practice and decided that I’m going to keep my chasing to the vicinity of our goal hoops to help defend them while I watch Sirius’ one man chasing show.”

Amanda laughed, “Chloe and Jack are that bad?”

“Jack yes,” Neassa said “Chloe…well she’s only on the team because…”

“Because she’s the only one who managed to stay on her broom during trials,” Lily said quietly and without thinking.

“Yes…how did you know that, you weren’t even at trials?”

“Um, someone told me,” Lily said putting on a false thinking face, like she was trying to remember who it was that had told her that bit of information, the truth was she remembered perfectly well who had told her that.

“Ah well, whatever, come on let’s get to breakfast, I’m starving,” Amanda said.
