I was in the train and had just changed into my wizard robes and I heard the clattering of the food trolley come my way. I dug my hand into my pocket and managed to find four sickles and eighteen knuts. I just had enough to buy two chocolate frogs. Rose was sitting opposite me reading through her books so she would be prepared for her first lessons. I wasn’t worried about that, the only thing I was worried about was which house I would be sorted into.
“Anything from the trolley, Albus, my dear?” I exchanged my money for two chocolate frogs. One of the cards was my dad, most of them are these days, the other, I was not familiar with. He had dark straight hair which looked a bit greasy. It had the name, ‘Severus Snape’ at the bottom, and then I thought with surprise, it was the person dad was telling me about when I was still on the platform. My middle name was his first as well.
“Hey Rose, look at this,” I showed her the cards; she didn’t even raise her head. I’m not sure if she even heard me. That must be serious concentration. I slowly took back the cards and put them in my pocket. Someone knocked at the side of our carriage. I looked at Rose, but she didn’t do anything. The door opened and a young boy came in. He looked quite small, with short brown hair. He had light brown eyes and he didn’t have a freckle or a spot on him.
“Mind if I sit here? There’s nowhere else,” he asked, hopefully.
“Sure, why not,” I replied. He came and closed the door and sat next to me. Silence fell apon us. It last a few minutes which seemed like days. The boy started tapping on the table to pass the time, but after a while, Rose finally said something.
“Oi, cut that out.” And he stopped immediately.
“So, umm, my name’s Edmond Duntley,” he said awkwardly.
“Hi, I’m Albus Potter,” I stuttered, just as awkward. Rose shook her head in amusement, but keeping her head down.
“What, you mean Harry Potter’s son?” I nodded slowly, and he smiled.
“What house do you think you’re going to be in then?” he asked.
“Well I’m hoping Gryffindor,”
“I wouldn’t be too worried, if your dad was in that house than your most likely to be,”
“Really?”
“Sure,” he said, coolly, “what about you?” He looked at Rose. She looked up and she looked like stone.
“Umm, Gryffindor I guess,” she said and immediately looked back down at her books. He chuckled,
“Don’t we all, don’t we all,” he said quietly. The train screeched to a halt, and Edmond got up.
“So I’ll be seeing you at school, bye,” and with that he gathered his stuff and left the train. I also collected my stuff up.
“Albus wait,” Rose said, pulling my arm, “I don’t trust that kid,”
“Why? What’s not to trust?”
“Well I just have this feeling, and the way he looked at me when he asked me that question.” I sighed.
“Look, you’ve probably been doing to much concentrating, lets get off the train before it goes back to King’s Cross,”
“Yeah, okay, but just promise me something, don’t become best friends with him.” I laughed and walked off the train.
Now I became nervous, I stepped outside the train and fresh air filled my lungs and a huge castle filled my sight with a lake just infront of it with a load of boats moored at the side. I walked to the boats, where a giant old man was standing, shouting,
“First years! First years! Ova ‘ere first years!” It was Hagrid. Me and Rose ran over the pebbly ground to him.
“Ah, Albus and Rose, ‘ow’s it going so far? Still on at my hut for tonight?” he asked, gruffly.
“Sure, Hagrid,” we smiled and he smiled back. With all the first years gathered we started getting into the small boats and set off for Hogwarts. I was with Rose, Hagrid and one other boy looking very scared. He was a skinny boy with a few freckles on his face and bright blue eyes.
“So then, what’s your name, young fella?” Hagrid asked the young boy. He looked up suddenly.
“C-connolly Downst-tone,” he stuttered back.
“You’re nervous I guess, I was on my first year, everybody is, even these two,” he gestured at me and Rose. We both smiled at him to reassure him. We kept on going until we hit the school. There was soft grass that was leading up to a massive waving tree which must be the womping willow. The top of the castle reached up to as far as you can see which was lit up with loads of lights. We all got out and filtered through the huge entrance. I was really nervous as we lined up outside the great hall waiting to be sorted. Scorpious approached me and Rose and I willed myself to ignore him.
“Hi there, Potter,” he sneered, “so ugh nervous about what your gunna be sorted into? I wouldn’t, you’re not gunna be in Gryffindor, you’re a wimp.” I looked up at him.
“Excuse me?”
“No don’t, Albus it’s not worth it. Don’t be stupid and get yourself expelled before we even get sorted,” Rose whispered in my ear. I ignored her.
“I said, Potter, you’re a wimp,” he said clearly, so everyone could hear. He walked away, smiling. I stuck my foot out before him just in time to trip him up. He got back on his feet quickly and swerved around with his wand. He paused, withdrew it and carried on walking.
“Yeah, that’s right Malfoy, walk away, just like your father did,” I said. He stopped and turned around.
“What did you just say?” he whispered angrily.
“You deaf Malfoy? I said your too scared just like your father! And you think I’m a wimp,” I chuckled to myself. Rose was shaking her head. Malfoy takes out his wand and started a spell, before a hand came and grabbed his wrist.
“Mr. Malfoy! What on earth do you think you are doing!” An old women said.
“But Professor, he-,”
“I won’t accept your blubbering, minus one-hundred points for whatever house you will be put into, and detention this Saturday, I don’t want to see it again.” I smiled to myself.
“Albus, don’t ever do that again,” Rose said.
“Relax, dad did it all the time,” I said.
Chapter 2
“Right everybody, my name is Professor Pheno-Clix, follow me please.” We all followed her into the Great Hall. It was a massive room with an endless ceiling with four tables lines up next to eachother The sorting hat was laid upon the front desk.
“I will announce you in the order of the start of your surnames,”
“Julian Ahrit,” A boy with long blonde hair went up quickly and Professor Pheno-Clix placed the sorting hat on his head. It took a while, but soon it shouted,
“Well, I’ll say, SLYTHERIN!” A huge round of a clause came from the Slytherin table as Julian skipped over there joyfully. Once it had died down, we started again.
“Karla Cateland,” A short young blonde girl went up to the front looking very nervous. The hat was placed on her head, but after a few seconds...
“HUFFLEPUFF!” A loud cheer came from the Hufflepuff’s as Karla went to greet them.
“Connolly Downstone,” The skinny boy I saw in the boat went up slowly and sat down carefully.
“Hmm, a tricky one, let’s see...” The sorting hat murmured to itself for a few minutes.
“Okay then, GRYFFINDOR!” I smiled as he walked just as slowly as he did up to the happy cheering Gryffindors.
“Edmond Duntley,” Edmond strolled up to the desk and the hat had barely touched him when it shouted,
“GRYFFINDOR!” And another huge cheer came from them.
“Jayne Emily,” A tall brown haired girl rose to the stage. After about a minute it put her in Gryffindor. There were a lot of people than put in Ravenclaw, a few more in Hufflepuff and Slytherin and then it came to Scorpious. The hat didn’t hesitate.
“SLYTHERIN!” A massive cheer went around the Slytherin table as Scorpious walked casually to them.
“Albus Potter.” My stomach did a flip when she said my name and I walked up slowly to the desk. I prayed to be in Gryffindor. I would give anything to be in Gryffindor. I closed my eyes as the hat was placed on my head and silence was all around me, I thought in my head over and over again ‘Gryffindor...Gryffindor...’ seconds later the sorting hat roared,
“GRYFFINDOR!” And the biggest cheer yet came from the Gryffindor table. I opened my eyes smiling as I looked over to them, I saw James amongst them all smiling and clapping at me, gesturing at a seat for me to sit in. I ran over to him and waited for other people to be sorted into Gryffindor.
