Mike Grambridge and the Undiscovered World
Chapter one
Mike Grambridge stepped under the yellow crime scene tape. To his left was his partner Alex Strife. Alex was in his early thirties, his hair was long and slicked back, and his beard reminded mike of a general in the confederate Army. Mike on the other hand was twenty-six, his hair was average in length and jet black.
To his right were two bodies. One was male, the other female. He knelt down beside them and pulled out a tape recorder.
“Two bodies, the male appears to be late forties, the female is in her late teens. Possibly related. Maybe father and daughter. No signs of blood or a struggle. It appears as though they… just fell over and died.”
Mike stood up and walked over to a cabinet that stood near by. On the top was a small eight by ten photograph. A small boy and the dead teen girl smiled up at him. Then everything around him ceased making noise. He turned. Alex and the other cops near Mike stood frozen. Then something happened. It was though someone hit rewind on everything around him. The cops walked backwards, into their cars, they took off in reverse towards the station. The sun went down and the moon came up. And the bodies… they started to move. Suddenly they both sprang up. There was a flash of green light.
Then everything went back to normal. Mike tripped and almost fell over as he attempted to catch himself on the cabinet.
“W-What just happened!” He startled out.
“Hey man you all right?” Alex asked, his Boston accent intruding into his r’s. Mike always wondered what a cop from Boston was doing in England.
“No! Something just happened!” Screamed Mike back at him.
“What ya mean man?” Said Alex shrugging, clearly not able to tell if mike was joking or not.
“I- I think I just saw the murder.” Mike said pacing back and forth, his hand running across his chin.
“Look, right there,” he pointed towards a spot on the floor eight feet from the body. “There was a man standing there. Then there was a flash of green light, and these two, “ He gestured toward the deceased. “Dropped like flies. Don’t ask me how I know, I just do.” He said holding his hands up in the air.
Alex, his jaw a little slack, said “Uh. Right. Magical light killed these two. Anyone else have theories as crazy as Grambridge’s over here?”
The other cops shook their heads no, and began to exit the average size cottage, till it was just Mike and Alex. Alex walked over to Mike and shook his head. Alex was short and a wee bit pudgy. He always smelled of tobacco.
“Look Mike. I don’t appreciate the crap you are trying to pull in front of my entire team. Magical lights? The heck is wrong with you! Look man. Things get tough out on the field. We’ve worked together for over a year now. Just get a drink, and relax. It’s got to be the nerves.”
Mike nodded. “Yeah… the nerves.” He still felt uneasy as he made his way to the squad car that got them their. The clean up crew was on site. Alex walked over to them.
“The scene is clear, you can pick up the bodies now.”
Mike felt, that for some reason, there was more to that scene. Something he couldn’t see. He shook his head and sat in the passenger’s side of Alex and his squad car. He laid his head back in the seat with his eyes closed, his hands rubbing his forehead.

Four hours and a ton of paper work later, Mike finally found himself on his way home. Alex was right, he needed a drink. He shook his head, trying to free himself of the image in his head. He pulled in to the parking lot for a convenience store. He walked in the store and passed a red haired man and women. The man appeared to be intrigued by the assortment of gum.
“But Molly, can I just try something new for once!” The man murmured under his breath.
“Oh Arthur what use could you have with this.. this..”
She bent over to read the print on the label.
“Spear made of mint!” She said, her voice strained.
“Well I want to know how these muggles fit a spear into that tiny package without magi-“
The women nudged him as he was finishing the last sentence.
“Please Arthur we must go. Ron is only a baby, and I don’t know if I trust Charlie alone with him in these dark times.”
The women pulled the man away from the display and together they exited the store. Mike went to the liquor isle and grabbed a six pack of beer. He was paying when he heard a loud CRACK. He reached down to his holster and pulled out his standard issue 8mm Bereta.
“Stay down!” He shouted to the women behind the counter. She collapsed, her hands on her head.
Mike Held the weapon, both hand held tightly on it. He crouched over to the main window in the store, using the small brick space between the window and the floor as cover. He peeked over and looked through the glass. The man and woman were gone. No trace of them and no trace of violence. He clicked the safety off the pistol and walked out the front door of the shop. The adrenaline pumping through his veins kept him alert as he walked through the lot.
There was another loud bang and two men appeared out of nowhere. Mike fell back, screaming out an obscenity. The man in back pulled out a long piece of wood.
“CRUCIO!” he shouted, pointing the stick at Mike.
Suddenly Mike felt more pain than he ever had before in his life.
“Enough!” shouted the man in front. “We are not here to kill or torture. The dark lord gave us strict orders. Stun him and be done with him.”
The man in back stepped forward, and shouted “Stupify!” At Mike.
Instinctively, Mike stuck out his hand to block the jet of light heading toward him, expecting the pain from before. The jet of light rebounded off Mikes palm and shot back at the man with the twig in his hand. It hit the man and sent him flying off his feet. The man in front took off the mask that he was wearing. Silver blonde hair fell over his face. He knelt down next to Mike and smiled a cruel smile.
“My name is Lucius Malfoy.”
