This series has to be my 2nd favourite of all time [after Harry Potter

] I'm on the eighth one atm.
So who else loves these books?
PS: 'Lemony Snicket' is just a psuedonym- his real name is Daniel Handler...

I loved it when I read it for the first time, and recently re-read the series for nostalgia reasons. I don't think they're amazing, but they're pretty darn good. (:
I hope they make another movie, I LOVED the original.

I haven't seen the movie but the books are pretty awesome. I've read all of them but don't worry, I won't tell you what happens. They are great books and I love that he is so random. I also love his style of writing. Some people find it so annoying that he stops between telling the story and gives definitions, but I always found it amusing. It's been a while since I've read the books though so i think I might re-read the series again.

Yea same here. I haven't seen the movies even though it didn't look like nothing of the book, but that's hollywood for you. I've read the series, not completely yet, and I love it (: I read each book the same day i get it. I can never put it down. As unfortunate as the events are its such a great read

Since this isn't a supporters only thread, I'm going to put this here. I despise the books. The writing style is horrific! The characters are never distinguished as their own. Their all lumped together as one character. It's way way way to unrealistic for me.

Well of course its unrealistic. I don't think this book was meant to have a realistic feel. I mean if situations like that happened in actuality I'd be a little worried lol

Well that's what makes the books so amazing to me. The events are never something that would happen in real life to just one person. Who could be so unfortunate? But I love how they all tie together. The Orphans' journey from house to house to house, is their way of discovering their past and why their parents died. The books have a deeper meaning than whats on the surface. At first glance, they seem juvenile and the style of writing may be annoying, vague and bland. But Lemony Snicket really puts himself in the books, creating himself as a character which is why the books are so unique as they are.

I enjoyed this series. It was an easy read, yes, but the style of writing that Daniel Handler used was very entertaining and refreshing. The interesting plot made you never sure what was going to happen, and always wondering what "VFD" really stood for.

It's been a pretty long time since I've read the book series, but I always liked them

It was sort of an easy read that kept me entertained. I wish the movie gave it more justice. All it did was mush the first three books together and change the order of everything. I would work on re-reading the series again, but I'm reading so many other books that I don't know when I'd get to it

This series was really popular at my school for some of us students in around 4th and 5th grade... so 4 or 5 years ago? Haha. I really did enjoy the series; despised the movie. I think that's where my whole "Stick to the book" theory came from because they did such a bad job, in my opinion. I've read the whole series years ago, but I do remember the main story line. Olaf is hardly ever thrawted completely and the children get away... Do you realize that's it's actually ten years old now since the beginning of the series?
I never knew his name was Daniel Handler, but as a kid, I was always wanting to know! I thought Lemony Snicket was the coolest name ever, and he used to be my favorite author, hehe. This was way before I had ever read JKR's works.

Has it been 10 years already? Wow...
Haha, I too remember wanting to know more about this guy. I remember saying to my mom how awful his life was and if she believed what he said about him being in grave danger all the time. She told me it wasn't true, but I always believed that Lemony Snicket was forever in hiding.

Haha, I had the realistic side of myself that knew it wasn't true, but being a child, I believed that he really was hiding and that his name might actually be Lemony Snicket.

My mother's ex-boyfriend's little girl brought the book over to our house one time and I was like, "Oh, I used to love these books! Keep reading!" and she just looked at me all weird because they're not reading fanatics like me. It's sad... those books were amazing and still are. I know, 10 years makes me feel old.. Wow, haha.

I think number 13 got a bit scrambled, and i didn't really understand it all. Loved some of the individual moments though, when the orphans combined their powers and managed to find a solotuion and excape the tightest spots (:

I remember seeing the movie, no I have never read the books, I thought (and the group I went with agreed) that the movie was pretty awful. So, I dont see myself ever picking up one of the books even though I've heard from quite a few people that the books are quite good.

Yay. I just finished the 13th one. It didn't answer all of my questions though

... and I also just watched the film. It was so bad. The ending was so wrong.
:/
Has anyone read the extra book called "The Beatrice Letters"?

I used to really love this series in the 4th grade. A lot of my friends were into them, and I hadn't yet, so I finally picked one up and started it. Man, I thought it was great. I read though the first nine and wanted more.
At first I thought that it had really happened because Lemony always said it had and I felt so bad for the kids. I asked my friends and they told me it wasn't, though. [I still wish it was real].
The movie was terrible. I think they ruined the whole point of the series. I wish they'd do it over and make one that actually went along with the books.
