Chapter 1- A Quest
Ron Weasly gazed out of his dormitory window at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, thoughts racing through his head. Ron had received a message. The message had told him that Professor Dumbledore needed to speak with him after dinner the coming evening. Ron and Professor Dumbledore had never had any one on one contact with each other. Whenever Ron had even spoke to Professor Dumbledore, Harry Potter or Hermione Granger had been with him, the majority of the time, making up excuses to get themselves out of trouble. Ron hadn’t talked to Harry or Hermione about the message, and wasn’t going to until after the meeting was over. There was no need for them to panic unless it was absolutely necessary.
As the hours wound down until his meeting with Professor Dumbledore, the clock ticking seemingly faster every minute, Ron was becoming more and more anxious, thinking the worst was about to come.
Ron skipped dinner that evening, thinking carefully about answers to possible questions Dumbledore might ask him. Walking through the castle, Ron was sweating profusely and extremely worried. But he knew there wasn’t a fair reason to be worried. Dumbledore was a good, fair man, and whatever he wanted was for the best.
Arriving at the stone gargoyle, Ron anxiously uttered the password (“acid drop”) and watched the gargoyle slowly turn into a winding staircase. Walking, head altered towards the ground, he finally reached the top step, and walked for the first time in 5 years, into the Headmaster’s office. Ron had to take a second to marvel at how beautiful it was. There were portraits of former Headmasters, magnificent paintings, a pensive, glass cabinets, and much more. But then Ron came back to reality and realized once more what he was here for.
“Good Evening Ronald.” Professor Dumbledore said from the tall, slender desk chair, which was facing the opposite direction.
“ Sir, how did you know it was me?” Ron asked surprised, but glad he didn’t have to make the first move.
“I have my ways dear boy. Now have a seat.” Dumbledore began, hands folded. “Now, you are most likely wondering why I have called you here on this beautiful evening.”
“Yes sir. I’ve been thinking about it all day.” Ron said, trying not to look worried.
“There isn’t a need to worry Ronald. You aren’t in any kind of trouble. But there is definitely something I want you to ask you to do for me.” This actually worried Ron more than if he would have been in trouble. Dumbledore had a very serious tone in his voice. Like there was a daunting task he was going to put Ron up to.
“What’s that Sir?” Ron said, his voice cracking.
“It’s a long process Ronald. And it will last the remainder of the school year. And it is a very daunting and dangerous task. But that is why I put you, out of all the students in the entire school to complete this task for me. That is, if you are willing, and ready to accept it. You obviously know that you’re friend Harry Potter’s parents were murdered, correct?”
“Yes sir.” Ron replied, becoming more and more anxious.
“And you know about which the circumstances of their deaths were?” Dumbledore asked.
“Yes sir.” Ron said.
“Well, that tragic occurrence has quite a lot to do with what I am going to ask you to do. Ronald. What I want you, and only you to do, is to go on a journey into the past, and find Lily Evans, Harry’s mother, and get to know her. Find out everything you can about her. This is all I will tell you about your task tonight. You will come to my office every Tuesday evening until your task is completed. But remember. You are not required to complete this task, but it would be fantastic if you chose too. Have a good night Ronald.”
“You too sir.” Ron said. He was stunned. He had absolutely no idea why Dumbledore had chosen him out of all the other students in the school, and was scared of what other parts of the task were included besides just finding out whatever he could about Lily Evans.
Ron knew he had to find Harry and Hermione and tell them what had happened. He was worried about how Harry would react to the fact that Ron had been chosen to go in to the past and find out about his own mother instead of him.
Harry and Hermione were sitting on the couch in the Gryffindor Common Room reviewing homework, when Hermione noticed Ron, and motioned for him to come and sit with them.
“Ron, what’s the matter? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” Hermione said looking worried.
“I just had a one-on-one meeting with Dumbledore.” Ron said, his face showing no sign of emotion.
“You? You had a meeting with Dumbledore?” Harry asked, stunned.
“Ron,” Hermione said. “Why, after seldom speaking to you for five years, would our headmaster suddenly invite you for a one-on-one meeting? Did he want something? Were you in trouble? What?”
“No, he wanted something all right.”
“Well,” Harry said, speaking faster. “What did he want?”
“He wanted me to go into the past, and find out about your mum.” Ron said.
“What?” Harry said, his voice breaking.
“Harry, I’m sorry. I have no idea why he chose me to do it, but-” Harry got up and left, and didn’t come back for the rest of the evening.
