Full Version: Familiar Inferi?

In the cave scene, Harry is dragged under the water by the male inferi (Joerg Stadler). I didn't think to check the credits, but I saw a great resemblance between him and the earlier photo of Regulus Black.
Does anyone have any details that could confirm or refute this hypothesis?

Well I don't know for sure who the actor was or were but I did think that the inferi all looked like Gollum!

IS there not an image somewhere of the slug club members past for comparison?

Just to make this thread move and lend itself more to a discussion, I will pose this question.

Did the inferi look anything like you had imagined them to in the book?

Honestly, ive always pictured inferi as dead bodies. What i mean by that is i always thought they looked like people, like zombies and less like golum. But having said that, i kind of liked the way they portrayed them in the movie. They looked much scarier, however the only problem is that those who didnt read the books may not realize immediately that they are people killed by voldemort and his death eaters; which may make it a little less frieghtening. Overall though, i think they were different than i expected, but i liked the way they looked.

I kind of pictured the Inferi to be a bit more...meaty. I know they're dead and stuff but the portrayal in the movie just made them look almost like infants or children. I guess what I mean is that I expected them to look a lot more humanly, but very very emaciated, and definitely pale and white and gross. I thought their faces looked goofy in the movie as well. They just didn't weird me out enough.

Though when that hand shot out of the water I jumped.... pinch.gif

I agree. I actually don't mind how they portrayed the inferi in this movie (which is amazing, considering my disappointment). I was expecting like the both of you, meatier dead bodies. But in actuality...inferi are dead people that have been cursed to life. So wouldn't the inferi look like all sorts of dead bodies. What I mean is, older bodies are decayed much more than fresh dead bodies. I would expect to see anything from skeletons to fresh looking bodies. A whole range of inferi.

I doubt the bodies continue to decay once they are cursed to life. But I could be wrong. I don't recall hearing or reading the specifics on inferi. I guess I'll have to look it up.

Thank you Elaine, for saying that! I totally thought Gollum from LOTR. I imagined the inferi to be more zombie looking and to have a more human quaility to them. I think that would have made my skin crawl more as it did when I read the description of them in the books.
I mean zombies are essentially the dead walking right? And to have them be all water logged and bloated could have been totally frightening. Perhaps they didn't do this so they could keep the movie PG instead of PG13?

It is funny that so many of you are mentioning Gollum from LOTR. When I was watching that scene I couldn't put my finger on what they looked like at first; I was trying to picture the mermaids from GoF but I didn't think they resembled them too much, then it dawned on me that I was looking at a scary version of Gollum. They were pretty creepy and most of the theater jumped when the hand came up out of the water and grabbed Harry.

Gollum all the way! That's what I thought as well when I first saw the Inferi. laugh.gif

I actually expected them to look like the dead bodies in LOTR. You know, in book 2 I think, where Froddo is dragged down by bodies inside the lake, and the Gollum pulls him out? They were eerie, dead bodies who had not melt to bones. They were awesome! But I guess the Inferi had to look more frightening than perfect dead bodies.

I jumped when the hand grabbed Harry as well! I was expecting it, just like everyone else, but we all screamed nontheless. It was so funny!

The scene in the cave was brilliant. The masses of the Inferi under the lake really freaked me out. It was disgusting. That's definitely one thing I'm not disappointed of!
