Winging It
Chapter One-
I’m just a face for every picture
A smile for your scrapbooks
And a story to be told
(It tears and tears me up)
-All Time Low-This is How We Do
Lily Evans
“You’re such a freak!” Petunia screamed at Lily. “Go ahead, leave, with your little freak boyfriend. “We don’t want you here.”
Lily smiled coldly. “Right. I’m a freak. Well, at least if Sev and I were dating… At least he’d be better then some balding-at-eighteen loser. I’m just saying…” She grabbed her trunk, shoved Petunia out of the way, and went downstairs to her parents. She gave them both hugs and they said their goodbyes. Petunia was standing at the edge of the room, rolling her eyes until Lily had left.
Lily slammed the door behind her, muttering to herself. I hate her, she thought, but she knew it wasn’t true. Pet had always been prejudiced against her, presumably out of jealousy, but no matter what she said, Lily always had some sort of sisterly love for her.
The scary thing, she knew, was whether Petunia felt the same way.
She shook off these thoughts, and headed for Sev’s. As she stepped off the porch, she pulled off her jacket and draped it over her trunk, so as not to arouse questions. It was a shoddy disguise, but he only lived a few streets away. She would’ve taken a car (She’d gotten a driver’s license, to Petunia’s amusement, earlier that summer.), but she rather enjoyed walking, and anyway he had a fireplace and sometimes a car that they could use.
She got close to the house, and heard shouting, not distinct words, but she got the general gist of it. She felt tears well up in her emerald eyes. Poor Sev.
Trying to remain quiet, she dragged her trunk to his backyard and up into the treehouse that they had played in as children. Every year, she thought to herself. Every year for five years now, and it’s still the same. She hated it, hated hearing poor Sev abused in such a way. The poor little boy who had befriended her and simultaneously made sure he had no friends within his house-Slytherin. However, he had gotten much better at dealing with it. Lily liked to think that she had helped with this—she had become friends with him, had grown to love him, even dated him for a period of time, but still there was some part of him that he kept secret from her, and no matter how hard she tried, he wouldn’t reveal anything to her.
As she was mulling over these thoughts, she saw his head pop up, followed by the rest of him and, finally, his trunk. His face was streaked with tears and there were handprints on his arms, but she chose not to notice, instead giving him a hug that he so obviously needed.
“I’m so sorry,” she murmured, patting his back.
“It-whatever. I’m fine,” he said gruffly, pulling away and clearing his throat. “Let’s just get out of here, all right?” He looked at her hopefully.
Lily mustered up a smile. “Sure,” she agreed, looking at her watch, which read 10:17. Just enough time. “Let’s go.”
He grabbed a single key from a pocket and went down the stairs, slowly and quietly dragging his trunk behind him. He motioned for Lily to follow him, and she did so, grabbing his hand as they ran across the lawn.
They climbed into his car, and he pressed the gas, speeding away.

Alexandra Lasist
“But, Mary, come on!” Alexandra begged her sister.
Mary glared. “Allie. I just turned 17. I’m not gonna risk you Splinching and me getting yelled at by the parental units just so you can see your little buddies an hour earlier. Plus, you’re not even done packing!”
Alex laughed skeptically. “You know I can be done packing quickly. And what are you talking about, me Splinching? I’ve Apparated before. If we had a fireplace,” she hinted, glaring, “then I wouldn’t need you. But we don’t, and please?” She smiled, trying to be convincing. An idea popped into her head. “And, just for the record… Sean would be one of the people to pick up. And we all know how you feel about him.”
Mary’s jaw dropped and her eyes widened. “How-did-y-ah-” she sputtered, and settled on glaring again.
Alex smirked. “It’s very obvious,” she told her, smiling. “To everyone but him, of course,” she amended, and Mary’s worried expression vanished.
“So,” Alex began again, “if you, you know, Apparated me to his house, then both of us to Ari’s, then me and Ari could go off somewhere-or, even, talk to her mom, Judy loves me-and you two’d be alone, you could-”
“Yeah…” Mary interrupted. “Then we could-that is, I could-I mean-” she faltered.
Alex cut her off, laughing. “Then you could throw him on the coffee table, and-” she laughed harder as Mary tackled her, cutting off the end of her sentence.
“Shut-up-” Mary choked out between spurts of laughter, tickling Alex’s sides.
“Begin to snog!" Alex added, in hysterics from the tickling. They both fell over, laughing.
Alex stood up, clutching her sides, and held out her right hand. “Truce?” she asked waveringly, and Mary reluctantly agreed, standing up with Alex’s help.
“But, uh, seriously…” Alex smiled what she hoped was winningly. “Please, please take me?” she begged. “I can be packed in, like, ten minutes, tops! C’mon, please? I haven’t seen Sean since July, and freaking Arianna since June. It’d mean a lot to me if you would…”
Mary rolled her eyes. “Fine,” she reluctantly agreed. “But… you have to actually be civil to Sirius this year,” she smiled, smirking.
Alex glared at her. “Fine,” she spat. “But I dare you to ask out Sean this year. Two Galleons to the winner…” she challenged.
Mary raised an eyebrow. “Of course not. He’d never want someone like me. Why bother? I have to stay focused on school, anyw-”
“Blah, blah, freaking blah,” cut in Alex. “Whatever. But remember, this is your last year, your last chance. And you’re never going to have any fun unless you start living, and not by the rules,” she advised. “Suck up your pride, take your baby sister’s advice, and have some fun this year.” She smiled.
Mary narrowed her eyes at this. “I have plenty of fun!” She paused. “Get your damn butt upstairs and get packing,” she commanded, and looked at the clock above their refrigerator. It read half past nine.
“Crap!” she exclaimed. “Mum and Dad are going to be back soon! You have to be ready in ten minutes, or I’m not taking you. Here, I’ll write ‘em a note.” She grabbed a notepad and pen and scrawled Left with Allie to get a bite and then to school. Write you later. Love, Mary. She would have told them where they were really going, but they were Muggles and barely approved of magic as it was. She looked up and saw Alex, still standing there, and made a ‘shoo’ing motion. “Go!” she commanded.
Alex did so, grumbling as she went. She managed to get all her stuff ready just in time, cat (Snippykins) included, and they were leaving just as their parents arrived.
