Hi everyone,

I have permission from the MODs (partially alkisti, thanks for all the help biggrin.gif) to begin a fan club thread for James and Lily Potter seen as though one does not already exist.

To join you just need to make a relevant post and, if you can, include the fan club’s name in your signature. To do so would be much appreciated and will make it easier to identify members. Everyone is welcome to post any questions they want – we don’t want the thread to close. If you do post questions please keep them James/Lily related – we don’t want to go off topic. Thanks.

I would like to have a devotee of the month (like such fan clubs as S.O.S.S and W.A.W) if anyone can think of a name for this then please do tell. The devotee of the month will be awarded to person posting quality answers of each month and will appear on my profile along with a list of members. I was also wondering if anyone is able to create avatars for the winner of each month, if so please contact me via PM. Thanks.

Okay so I thought we would start off with a few getting to know your views on the pair…

1) In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

2) In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

I did want to post more questions but I’m in a bit of a hurry so I will be back very soon with more questions and my own answers.

I hope that we'll get enough members that the topics will keep on coming.

Enjoy!

I´d love to join Lauren. biggrin.gif

1) In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

I prefer Lilly purely because J.k Portrays her as the innocent thoughtful student and the most loving mother. I think James is great too but I prefer Lilly´s personallity. Owing to the fact she sticks up for other people and values them highly when others might not. For example in Snapes worst meomery. I connect better with people like that so thats why i prefer Lilly to James as people. Even though they are both amazingly brave and honest people. To sacravice themselves for their only son.

2) In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

The stag to me seems to be the leader and as James took an active "leader" role in the Maurauders I think that this animal suits his personality trait. Brave, leader, head strong etc.
Lilly as the doe a more calmer and innocent creature who will do anything to protect her young. Baby Harry from Voldemort etc.

I may add more detail later for now I have to dash. Great thread Lauren. biggrin.gif

I'm excited to be apart of this forum! Great idea!!

In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

I love both of these characters but if I have to pick one I'd pick Lily. It must have been difficult to fight for the Order and protect your family, go into hiding from the most evil wizard and know he's hunting you. Granted James went through the same thing, but as a mother, all you want to do is protect your kids.

There's an animalistic urge to do whatever you have to do to protect your young, just like a lioness with her cubs. The thing Lilly had to deal with and not James was standing in front of her son, using herself as a human shield to protect him. Giving the ultimate gift you can give your child...your own life.

James, just as equally brave was surprised by Voldemort and didn't have a chance to defend himself and consequently dies instantly. Lily however, was face to face with Voldemort. She was given a choice and chose to die for her son.

In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

A stag for me symbolizes strength and patience. A stag stands his ground and wards off his enemies. He also doesn't attack anyone or anything unless provoked. A stag is a strong symbol of power and elegance.

A doe for me symbolises peace and tranquility. A doe's responsibility is to care for the herd. To watch over others and be there when needed, especially with her own fawn. A doe with a fawn is especially wary of others. The most important thing for a doe is to protect it's baby. I think Lily lived up to that!

Lily and James were a perfect fit and their patronus's show that. There's the strong viable male, willing to protect his family at all cost and the female willing to look after everyone else and defend herself if necessary. The stag and Doe go hand in hand as do James and Lily Potter.

my first post here(:

In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

I love both of the characters so much, as they're my favorite ship and characters in Harry Potter, but if I had to pick one, I would pick Lily. It just seems like she's gotten through a lot of tough work because of her blood status. She also seemed incredibly brave, and she had the possibility of living, but instead she died for her baby. Not to misunderstand me here, James was also incredibly brave, but he didn't have the possibility of escaping. I love them both dearly though.

In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

I take does(is that the correct plural form of doe?)/stags as very caring animals who take care of their young very carefully (like Lily and James did), also they go through hardships of the high chance of them being killed (as did Lily and James). Besides doe(s) and stags make a perfect match together. (:

I have an idea for the member of the month, it could be stag of (insert month and year here) for a male, or doe of the (insert month and year here) for females.
MagicTrioFan11
Awesome idea for a fan club! Could I join? smile.gif

In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

I also love both of the characters as they're so great for each other however, if I had to choose between the two I think I'd go with Lily. In a way she reminds me sort of a combination of Luna and Hermione. She's portrayed as such a light and happy person and would always stick up for her friends whenever needed. This sort of reminds me of Luna because she has a bright personality too. Lily was also very smart and studious, which reminds me of Hermione. As much as I love both Lily and James, I prefer Lily out of the two.

In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

To me the stag symbolizes great strength and power. He protects his family no matter what happens and is very brave. He symbolizes a father figure and is a true leader. Through his strong stance he shows all of these personality traits.

The doe is a perfect match for the stag and it's as if Lily and James were really meant for each other. She's a protective mother and would do anything to keep her baby safe. She's strong and yet calm at the same time. Together the stag and doe make a perfect family with their baby just like Lily, James and Harry did.

I would like to join.

In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

I prefer Lilly because she is more like me. She was nice and didnt judge people for what they looked like or anything else. She liked or disliked people for who they are inside. She seemed like an extremely caring person who would do anything for someone they loved. She was smart and didnt agree with being cruel to someone because they were different. She gave everyone a chance. She got along well with teachers and always tried to do he best in school and get top grades.

In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

The stag is a symbol for power and bravery. The doe I think symbolizes love, and caring. I think that they make a good pair togther because they can complete each other.

My first post in this thread. Great idea!

In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?
I personally prefer Lily to James because she is potrayed as a calm and devoted student. I think J.K. Rowling painted her in a very good light wwhich is why I prefer her to James. I don't really like James because he acts very stuck up at times and he hurt the girl he loves by hurting her best friend yet he still ends up with her. Severus may have ruined his relationship with Lily by calling her a Mudblood but I still think it's a bit of very twisted fate that she ends up with James. I still love the couple but it's kind of messed up how it ended up.

In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?
James, the stag, is bold commanding and proud. Very Staglike. Lily is calmer and gentler but would do anything to protect the people she loves. It also puts in a love connection between them that would have been harder to put between Severus and Lily.

So that's my opinion!
MagicTrioFan11
Okay so I'm not sure if this question was answered in the HP books somewhere, it's hard to remember all the details, so tell me if it already was...

Out of all the subjects at Hogwarts, what do you think was Lily and James's favorite class and why?

And also..

From the professors that Harry, Ron and Hermione have had, who do you think Lily and James would have got along with the most and why?

Just a couple of questions I thought I'd ask to help the discussion going smile.gif Love this group!
Rolanda Hooch
Out of all the subjects at Hogwarts, what do you think was Lily and James's favorite class and why?

I think that Lily would have most enjoyed potions or Charms as it kind of hints at that in the books. I think James would have preferred Transfiguration because he was obviously good at it (becoming an Animagus is extremely difficult. There's only like 10 in the entirety of England).

From the professors that Harry, Ron and Hermione have had, who do you think Lily and James would have got along with the most and why?

Okay... so for this I have kind of two answers. 1) Remus... DUH! okay that was not really real because I suspect that's not exactly what you mean so my other answer is: 2) Moody possibly. And not the imposter Moody! The real one! It just seems like they would get along with him because they were all in the Order together before James and Lily died.

So those are my answers and I have another question for everyone as I really like this thread. smile.gif

Do you think Snape calling her a Mudblood, pushed Lily into James' arms?

I know it isn't entirely James and Lily but I feel this a very important question!
MagicTrioFan11
Do you think Snape calling her a mudblood, pushed Lily into James' arms?

Hmm..that's a good question. It could definitely be a possibility, but I don't know if that would have pushed her and James closer together. In my opinion, I think that it broke Lily and Snape apart in a way and ruined their friendship. Although, now that I think about it maybe she did start to like James more after that. I'm not really sure though, it's a hard question to answer. Overall, I think that it pushed Lily away from Snape, rather than into James' arms.
Hermione17
Out of all the subjects at Hogwarts, what do you think was Lily and James's favorite class and why?

Well, we know from HBP that Lily was exceptional in potions. So I'd bet that potions was her favorite subject. We all love what we can do best.

For James, his favorite class was probably flying since he was a Seeker for Gryffindor. Out of sports I'd say transfiguration. Like Rolanda Hooch said...James was an animagus which isn't exactly easy. He must of liked Tranfiguration to even attempt turning himself into an animal.

From the professors that Harry, Ron and Hermione have had, who do you think Lily and James would have got along with the most and why?

Of course Lupin...that's easy. I think they both would of liked Professor McGonagll and Hagrid. Slughorn...since Lily already liked him and did fantastic in his potions classes. I think James would of liked Moody also.

Do you think Snape calling her a mudblood, pushed Lily into James' arms?

Lily didn't have feelings for Snape other than friendship and when he broke her trust by calling her the filthiest name in the wizarding world their friendship was ruined. She may have started talking to James more and more to get under Snape's skin and started developing feelings for James. So I think it's entirely possible that Snapes' remark set the wheels in motion for Lily and James to get together. It wasn't to hard since there were some feelings there in the first place.

In your opinion, of the two, Lily and James, which character do you prefer and why?

I prefer Lily because she seems like the kind of person I would love to hang out with, but as far as James goes I think it would have taken sometime for me to get used to him.

In your opinion, what do the doe and stag symbolize?

Well beings the doe and stag are female and male deer, and Lily and James ended up married...I think the patrounus's have something to do with who you will end up with or who you love. Because here is another thing to think about Harry's patronous is his dad's stag and Ginny's is a horse. But then again it really wouldn't make any sense beings Rpn's is a gold retrevier and Hermione's is a otter.

Do you think Snape calling her a mudblood, pushed Lily into James' arms?

I don't believe Lily like Snape like that anyways, I think he only intrigued her because he was the very first wizard she had meet before going to school.

From the professors that Harry, Ron and Hermione have had, who do you think Lily and James would have got along with the most and why?

Well the very obvious Lupin and Moody, even if it was a fake Moody. But I also believe they would have gotten along with all of them for the simple fact they probably had them as teachers; a.k.a. McGonagall.

Out of all the subjects at Hogwarts, what do you think was Lily and James's favorite class and why?

Well I see Lily just like Hermione....muggle born and egger to know everything about this odd world you have just been thrown into. And James probably like Harry.....Quidditch all the way.

marauderxforever
hey! sorry, i wasn't able to go on here for awhile, it's like my summer has already ended!

Do you think Snape calling her a mudblood, pushed Lily into James' arms?
I definitely think it started to make Lily see sense and see how much Snape was into Dark Arts and how much he was going onto a dark and dangerous path. But as we know, it wasn't until their seventh year did they start to go out.

From the professors that Harry, Ron and Hermione have had, who do you think Lily and James would have got along with the most and why?
Well, definitely Remus Lupin first, I mean, durr. But out of the other professors, I think they got along well with Hagrid and Moody(the real one).

Out of all the subjects at Hogwarts, what do you think was Lily and James's favorite class and why?
I believe it said somewhere that Lily favorite was Charms, and James was transfiguration.
xoxMIA MALFOYxox
Do you think Snape calling her a mudblood, pushed Lily into James' arms?

Well if Snape ever had a chance with Lily i think that would have ruined it. I do think that he was already ruining it by following the other Slytherins around like he did. I think that it ruined his friendship with her though. It pushed her away but maybe not into James' arms.

From the professors that Harry, Ron and Hermione have had, who do you think Lily and James would have got along with the most and why?

Well Remus because they were goods friends. Lily with Slughorn because she was one of his top students and he really liked her.Snape kind of for Lily because she was friends with him until the Mudblood incident.

Out of all the subjects at Hogwarts, what do you think was Lily and James's favorite class and why?

Lily's i think were Charms and potions because she was so good. James' would maybe be flying because he was seeker and transfiguration because he was an animagus.
marauderxforever
hey, i have another question:

When did you think James started crushing on/asking out Lily?

I personally think it was probably the ending of 4th year/beginning of 5th because she seemed pretty mad by the Snape incident, it didn't seem new to her that she was being asked out again.
Tonkzzz_777
When did you think James started crushing on/asking out Lily?

I think it was probably after Snape called her a mudblood, but who really knows right. I mean heck he could have been crushing on her WAY before then and only had the guts to ask her out after Snape called her a mudblood. But which ever, I'm glad it was them two who got together and not Lily and Snape.

If Lily and James have lived, how would Harry's life be different? How would Lily and James be different? Would the wizarding world be different?

If Lily and James have lived, how would Harry's life be different? How would Lily and James be different? Would the wizarding world be different?

Oh geez, this is a great question, and it will keep us busy for a few days(:

I think that because of James' and Lily's death, Harry Potter was possible. Who would they have trusted as their secret keeper? Since that's the only way plausible way that they would be living. Sirius? Voldy might have killed him then. Remus? He might of killed him too. Dumbledore? This may have lead to a legendary duel, or maybe he left the secret keeper alone. Or maybe they still picked Pettigrew, but he didn't rat them out (no pun intended). Maybe Voldy picked Neville as the "Chosen One". Maybe everything is happening to Neville, and Harry is an extra character. If Lily didn't sacrifice herself then Voldy would have never "died" in the first place. So Sirius would probably not be in Azkaban, Voldemort would not have to attempt to come back to life, he would already be dead, he probably would have murdered alot of other people if he didn't get "killed" in the first place. Maybe he didn't hear about the prophecy and doesn't have a clue what's going on.
The possibilities are endless. The whole book is based on the deaths of James and Lily Potter. sad.gif

May I join? May I? biggrin.gif

When did you think James started crushing on/asking out Lily?

If you meant when did he started to fancy her it was long before Snape was humiliated in front of all and called Lily a Mudblood. It is implied by JKR that James was interested in her maybe since he saw her in class or maybe even train laugh.gif Like Sirius said "He was always acting stupid when Lily was around." and this was said after Harry saw that memory. So, James liked Lily for a long time, just that she didn't want to give him a chance until 5th Year. (that's when they started to date wub.gif )

If Lily and James have lived, how would Harry's life be different? How would Lily and James be different? Would the wizarding world be different?

Of course Harry's life would be different. It's like he mentioned in the last book:

QUOTE
He was about to go home, about to return to the place where he had had a family. It was in Godric’s Hollow that, but for Voldemort, he would have grown up and spent every school holiday. He could have invited friends to his house. . . . He might even have had brothers and sisters. . . . It would have been his mother who had made his seventeenth birthday cake. The life he had lost had hardly ever seemed so real to him as at this moment, when he knew he was about to see the place where it had been taken from him. (Deathly Hollows)

It would be totally different, at least he'd be a happy boy, with no worries or so about death thing. He would have both parents, godfather, teacher and friends. He'd be a happy little wizard.
How would Lily and James be different? I don't know. They might be the greatest parents in world for Harry laugh.gif Let's remind us that James was one of the Marauders, not to mention that Sirius was his godfather also a Marauder. Two reckless adults for Harry that would've made him a pretty spoiled kid laugh.gif But if there was Lily and Remus, he would cool out a bit. These adults would have made Harry a great person, as they are great persons ;(
The wizarding world would be less different. Harry mentions it in the fifth book - Would Neville's Mom tried to save him like my Mom did? - something like this. So if there wasn't Harry, there would be Neville. Therefore, the wizarding world would be less different as the Prophecy must be fulfilled. But definitely there would be a happy and no worries Harry ^^.
Hermione17
If Lily and James have lived, how would Harry's life be different? How would Lily and James be different? Would the wizarding world be different?

I like how you both brought up the fact that it was either Harry or Neville that would of traveled on the journey of defeating voldemort. But I'm going to go the opposite direction just for the heck of it.

What if Voldy picked Harry as he did, but Lily and James lived through the attack? How would Harry's life be different then? Always on the run with his parents, not able to go to Hogwarts and have friends.

Lily and James would definitely be side tracked (through no fault of their own). Trying to make sure their family is safe, they might not of had so much time to be awesome parents to Harry. What if they figured it would be safer for Harry to live with the Dursley's? Harry's abandonment issues would have exploded (Depending on his age and how well he could understand).

The wizarding world could go either way. In what I've just said the wizarding world could have been much more chaotic with Lily and James being hunted and wizards being forced (Imperius Curse) to search for Harry and kill him.

Or it could have gone like you both suggested, and Harry's life could have been magical and normal and happy. While Neville gets the short hand of the stick. The wizarding world would have gone on to be around the same as it was when it was Harry.

So many possibilities!! But I do agree with you marauderxforever, The whole book is based on Lilly and James' deaths.

I liked your point, but you're missing some crucial things in the story. Voldemort is not likely to let anyone alive, therefore James and Lily wouldn't have survived. Like Dumbledore said, if Voldemort knew love (referring to Lily's sacrifice) then he wouldn't be Voldemort anymore. Also, if Lily hadn't protected Harry, maybe Harry wouldn't be the Harry we know. Also, if Lily wouldn't protect Harry, she wouldn't be Lily anymore. I hope it's understandable my mess of words >.<

I see what you're saying. Maybe I wasn't totally clear, I didn't mean that Voldemort would just be like..."well darn, they beat me. Ah well, this fight can wait for another day."

I'm talking about James and Lily defeating voldemort for the time being, while reinforcements arrive. They slip away but barely. There's no way Voldemort would let them live, that's why I said they would be hunted and looking over their shoulder for the next attack. Strategizing and trying to keep their family together and alive as long as possible.

The prophecy would still hold true, the only thing different would be Harry living through the horror with his parents. Whether or not Voldy would succeed and kill them anyway...well who knows. But Harry's life would be extremely different if the events unfolded differently.

In a way, I think J. K. Rowling was very compassionate by killing Lily and James the way she did. This way Harry didn't have to grow up with the horrible memories of watching his parents die or living life on the run from Voldemort.

I hope that made sense. It did in my head HA! wacko.gif
MoonFighter
It made sense biggrin.gif But this was all possible if both parents had their wands; but since they were careless enough... sad.gif Too bad Sirius didn't get there on time >.< He might've helped *sigh*
Although, I do agree on the fact that JKR was compassionate about killing them both. Like you said, at least Harry didn't suffer having to see them fight and die in the end. I'm sure that this would've been the development as JKR killed mostly the important ones to Harry ;(
marauderxforever
dang! i missed a whole debat-y thing sad.gif

first off, MoonFighter, first i need to say that Lily and James went out in their seventh year, not fifth; i just read that and i wanted to make sure we all had it correctly(:

i agree with that; the characters could be extremely different if they didn't do what they did. i also agree that JKR was compassionate in killing Lily and James and that life would have been hard for them if they were left living. It would be more difficult for Harry to go to Hogwarts with Voldemort at large and hunting them then it would be for Remus because of his lynthropy. I still believe that the book's events and beginning is completely based on Lily's and James' death (so depressing). sad.gif
Harry.Potter.Geek
hey everybody, first post here smile.gif

When did you think James started crushing on/asking out Lily?
I think the books might have mentioned this somewhere? but I'm not sure?
Well, I'm guessing James probably liked her for awhile from what Sirius said "He was always acting stupid when Lily was around." (MoonFighter good quote, sorry I stole it lol,I couldn't think of a better one) So you get the impression that James had liked Lily for awhile and was continuously trying to to get Lily's attention.
With the idea of Snape (in a way) pushing Lily into Jame's arms..Hmm.. It seems possible, but I don't think Snape calling her that made her go to James.I tihink it just was like a wake up call to Lily. Right then she saw how much dark stuff he was getting into. She may have started liking James a little more after that, but I don't think that pushed her into Jame's arms.

If Lily and James have lived, how would Harry's life be different? How would Lily and James be different? Would the wizarding world be different?
Well, I agree Marauderxforever with that the characters would be completely different. Also pretty much the whole plot of the story would have changed.. and Harry (probably) would have never meant Ron or Hermione. Or for that matter even gone to Hogwarts. Even if his parents were alive, I think Harry's life would have been worse with his parents than it is without his parents, having to be on the run all of the time..but on the other hand he would be with his parents and maybe even Sirius and Remus most of the time, so it might not be all bad. Overall though, I think his life would be hard.. He wouldn't get to live as a 'normal kid' (even though that was hard for Harry to do being the Chosen One and all) but, Voldy wouldn't be dead if James and Lily didn't die for their son, so they would always be on the run like Dawn said, so his life would be terrifying in a way. Never knowing when the next attack would be and not knowing if you were going to die or not when it came.. As for the Wizarding World, it would be a mess! Everyone would be scared of being the next victims of Voldy. You would also have people on the run everywhere and people under the Imperius Curse as well.

I hope all of that made sense biggrin.gif
