Full Version: Why Didn't Dumbledore Use An Anti-disapparation Jinx In The Atrium?

As we can see from the Order-Death Eater fight in the Department of Mysteries Dumbledore can produce Anti-Disapparation jinxes in seconds. Why did he not use this in the Atrium? It would have meant that he wouldnt have been able to escape - the only other escape was the fireplaces (Floo Powder) and if he lowered his guard even for a second to throw some Floo Powder in the grate Dumbledore would have disarmed him before he could blink. Is it perhaps only possible to cast Anti-Disapparation jinxes on the person, and Voldemort managed to block the jinx? In which case how did they manage to cast that on the Hogwarts grounds? Doesn't seem to make sense wacko.gif Be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

First off, there isnt an anti disaparition jinx on hogwarts, you cant apparate there because of the density of the magic in the air. Also, we never saw dumbledore cast an anti-disaparition jinx on the death eaters. It might be very complex and take a while.

Think about what you said here. If voldemort would have lowered his defenses for a second dumbledore would have disarmed him. If dumbledore would have lowered his defenses to cast an anti-aparition jinx than voldemort would have disarmed him.

another theory is that dumbledore (knowing he would not be able to kill voldemort) didnt want him to have to stay there. He was terrified of what voldemort could and would do if he was cornered. You saw how he tried to possess harry and how much it scared dumbledore; he probably wanted voldemort to get out of there as fast as possible before he killed someone. He didnt need him to stick around for proof, he had about 10 death eaters in robes trapped in the department of mysteries, that would have been plenty of proof that voldemort was back

Ah I see, I thought it was because of an anti-apparation jinx.

He arrived almost immediately after Harry got there, so I think we can assume that it didn't take that long.

I disagree with this point - if we are agreed that an anti-apparation jinx doesn't take long to cast, then he could have done it in the heat of battle. Just instead of using a stun or something he used an anti-apparation jinx instead - Voldemort still has to block it - it's not exactly what i'd call lowering your defences if you just cast a different spell in a duel.

As we can see from the book, Dumbledore is quite able to hold Voldemort off. Who knows, he could have held Voldemort up for hours, days even. But as we see, he knows that the Aurors are on their way, so he could just hold him off till the Aurors arrive - even Voldemort knows he cant take on the whole Ministry. Dumbledore does manage to hold Voldemort off until the Ministry arrives. If Voldemort had had an anti-apparation jinx on him at that point he would have been stuffed.
