Hey there guys, I was searching through the masters list and I didn't see anything like this so I thought of opening it up. If it does exist by some strange reason under a different name feel free to close it MODs.

But my reason for opening this topic is because today in school a student was killed on campus. Yea, in MY school. Crazy right? Well I'm posting the link to the article that the media has. But of course as a student, I know a bit more.

So this happened today as were changing classes and my friend had the unfortunate luck to witness it. A guy, 17, came up to the boy, 14-17?, with a switch blade or a box cutting knife i dont know which one and stabbed him 3 times. Once on the back where the neck and spine meet at the top, another right in the lungs and another in the kidney. Yes the boy died within 15 seconds gasping for air which he couldn't because of the blood (I apologize if it seems grpahic). The killer according to many students walked away non-chalantly with a smile on his face and left school campus and hid behind a home around the school (we're a neighboorhood school and incase you don't know what that means, we are surrounded literally by houses). He was finally caught and is now in custody. The reason? Well we haven't heard directly from the killer himself, but many many people say it was over a girl. it's unfortunate for something like this to happen. the victim just came 3-5 months ago from Cuba, here.

So overall I'd like to understand why people, aiming more torwards students, do this? Why? Isn't school suppose to be safe? And to think parents sent you off for the day and then you don't come home that day....

I was actually coming on to create a thread just like this... we didn't have anything nearly that drastic at our school but a sophomore student was just expelled for threatening the school with a gun and threatening suicide. She put a youtube video up about getting expelled as well that I just watched. No, I never thought there was a threat to our school, but this person definitely has problems.

It's weird that you told us about this yesterday, because at school today I was walking out to the bus and a guy walked by with a bleeding nose. Everyone was talking about it. Apparently this guy didn't do anything, a guy from another school just came and asked for someone and then punched him in the face twice and ran away. Last year a guy beat up a friend of mine's brother at lunchtime, he had a concussion and went to the hospital. I think it was also at that time that there was a rumor that he was threatning to come with a gun, and we practiced lockdowns and stuff but it never actually happened. Apparently he also had pictures of his guns and stuff on Facebook, it's really really sick. But school security is something thats hard to control.

So once again the richer realm of southern Germany is hit with school violence. Luckily no one was killed this time, the suspect plus two victims wounded and hospitalised. It comes about 6 months after the massacre at Winnenden and not all so far away geographically.
I really have to ask, whata is it with youths today? Seriously, why? For attention? To make a point? Whatever the rason, it is inexcusable, each to their own but no one has the right to harm or take the life of another.
Adults seem to blame computer games but that is utter rubbish, plenty of people play those kind of games such as shooters and war games without feeling the urge to start shooting everyone dead in the street. Let us just hope that we hear less and less about these horrific attacks than we have been.

WOW! You guys!!!
Nicky, I'm so sorry your friend had to witness a tragedy like that.

I'm so glad I'm OUT of school I can't tell you! That being said, school security is hard to accomplish 100%. Metal detectors, physically searching students, their possessions and even lockers...followed by security cameras and on duty security guards or police patrolling the school is what I can think of to make it safe. But then you start infringing on the amendments.

There's always going to be an unstable person living among you. I think the right place to start is with the people close to that person. Family and friends can tell when someone is a little off balance. Pictures of guns on their face book page, a threat, a promise to do harm...these are all cries for help. The question is...who hears the cry? And do they answer it?

How far would you like your school to go to keep you safe? Do you want metal detectors and searches of your person? Would you support the separation of sexes? Maybe keeping girls and boys apart would minimize the jealousy that Nicky's school sadly witnessed.

As for me, my school felt safe but it wasn't. Nothing bad happened while I attended school, but it was completely open. Anyone from off the streets could have walked on campus and opened fire or held students hostage. Luckily nothing like that has ever happened.

When does a school that feels safe fall short of protecting it's students? I don't know, I think it depends on many different factors. One major problem in our society is that kids don't like to be "Taddle Tales". For God's sake...if you see something strange going on with someone...tell your parents, or a teacher...go to the principal if you have to! You could be saving more than one life.

The kid that's now a killer at Nicky's school destroyed a life and ruined many others. His life is over (And it should be!). The families on both sides are struggling and even friends on both sides.

I'm sorry you all have had incidents happen at school or around you. Unfortunately , like Miami-Dade School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said, it's extremely difficult to prevent a random act of violence.

Especially when you're dealing with hundreds of students. Keep your eyes and hears open.

My prayers go out to Juan and his family. I can't imagine what they are going through.

These aren't school violence but you might see the connection I'm trying to make.

When I was in eighth grade we had to miss track practice one afternoon because we weren't allowed to leave school because a pipe bomb was found in a shed in our schools front yard. However, its placement there was a complete accident. It was actually intended for the park across the street and down the road a little, but, one of the service workers about 19 I think saw it had no idea what it was and put it in his equipment shed when his supervisor noticed it and recognized it for what it was and notified authorities.

The second instance isn't as close as a connection...

During my freshmen basketball season (I'm a junior now) in one of the Omaha, Nebraska malls (yes I live in Nebraska) had a 19 year old kid fresh out of school (the only real connection is that he is a students age) stepped out of an elevator with a loaded weapon and unloaded on 12 unsuspecting people ( not including himself). Including him nine people died and the other 6 were wounded in varying degrees of severity.

Yea, like my school has had some crazy threats and things like that, but this is the first time that a students life was taken cruelly by another student..

In my freshmen year of highschool [same school] there was this girl who was a senior thankfully, had this hitlist with names of people she wanted to kill. Some included a few friends of mine and some teachers. She even posted the list up on her MySpace blog and so many people tried to hack her page to see it fearing that they would be on the list. She took it down and nothing ever happened thank god.

Also in my school many fights break out all the time. I mean a couple are on youtube. can you believe that?? That's crazy. And supposedly the killing, someone recorded the whole things to the point when the student died and posted it on youtube. Horrible. atlease they took that down too.

Alot of students were suggesting that we need more security and that metal detectors are a must. Security wise, yea we need more. Last year the school laid off about 8 securities leaving us with only 7, and mind you my school is pretty big. About the metal detectors, the only problem with that would be that the school system doesnt have enough money let alone my school is a neighborhood school. meaning we live within the neighborhood of coral gables, so we're a pretty open campus with about 20 openings, because the residents share our track to excersise in the morning and night. Besides wouldn't having metal detectors give the wrong idea about your school? I mean yea there's violence, but not as bad as some other schools.

Today, in the second period jr. chemistry class (I'm in eigth period) somebody put several squirts of hand sanitizer in our teacher's coffee cup. Just the day before in theology class the teacher mentioned that three squirts of swallowed hand sanitizer can and likely will be fatal. The teacher immediately spit it out and thankfully didn't swallow it but he has no definite proof of who did it although he says he has a good idea.

Omg those are scary sad.gif ^
Nicky potter, sorry to your friend who had to see a calamity like that :/

Soo apparently, in 1993 a guy [not a student btw] with a machete and a fake gun came into our school and kept a class hostage
Scary.
So that probably explains the weirdo security guard and bars on the windows in the ground floor classrooms... ermm.gif Sounds like prison lol.

But nothing new, thankfully.

Sorry about the boy from you're school and what you're friend had to witness, nicky potter sad.gif

What a very interesting topic.

I do not believe that heightened security measures are the way to prevent this kind of violence. It is like the "you could get hit by a bus" thing, no point living in a state of immutable paranoia. It would be more effectivley prevented by looking out for the warning signs; perhaps schools could have speakers come around and describe the signs to students? Maybe someone would recognise them and tell a teacher.

like HarryJPotter said, hopefully we will be hearing less of these kinds of things in the future smile.gif

Peace ♥

I tell ya, ever since the Virginia Tech thing (in the US) I've been pretty scared of any guy who's got a shady persona. You never know these days...kids have been flippin' out all over the place. I guess teen pressures can really make someone lose it. For once, I'd like to live in a world where kids aren't hurt by others.

I'm sure you've heard about the young girl in Oakland at her Homecoming? D:
