Hello there!

It was just announced this week that Stephenie Meyer's first adult book The Host, is being made into a movie. As I'm sure you know, Meyer is the author of the world-famous Twilight series, which are also being made into films.

The Host will be written and directed by Andrew Niccol (writer and director of Gattaca), and produced by Nick Wechsler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz (these three used their own money to buy the screen rights to the movie). You can read the full article here. Meyer also posted her own comments on her official website.

I for one am quite ecstatic about this announcement. I've waited for quite some time to see if this book would be made into a film adaptation. I loved the book and I'm sure that the team working on the movie will do a superb job.

So my first questions to you are:
What do you think about this announcement? and
Who would be your dream cast for the movie?

Wow, The Host, well can't say I'm surprised, with the success of twilight they are bound to make this one into a movie.

I'm not too sure what I think about this, I am really anxious too see how they do the whole Melonie/Wanda thing, they could make that really cool. However, I really hope they don't make it too Sci Fi confusing, that would really kill it for me. It sounds like they have a good team working on it, though, so I'll bet it'll turn out good.

I'll have to get back to you about my dream cast though, it'll involve a little more thought. I do look forward to seeing who they cast in the lead roles, it'll be a difficult decision for them I'm sure

Luv ya

I got barely 10 pages into The Host so I'm hoping the movie adaptation is more interesting. And easier to understand. That was my main problem with the book, what I'd read was too confusing and not interesting enough to hold my attention.

I can't guess a cast because I don't know any of the characters barring the Being that's inside the captured girl and the (2?) Scientists around her.

I'd like an unknown cast though. Obviously a better actor then Kristen will entice me to see the movie. But then a rat could do a better job so if they went with a rodent I'd watch it for sure.

If they choose (as their most likely to do) a famous person, perhaps Evangeline Lilly or fellow Lost castmate Maggie Grace.

Triad, the books get better and easier to understand after the first bit with the operation. I remember being confused too.

Haha yeah, Kristen isnt great, is she. I don't think they'd cast her. But I doubt they would, and to have her in both of Stephenie Meyer's movies... thatd just be too weird. And disastrous.

I cant imagine how they'll do the movie, honestly! I'm excited, but... I don't understand because most of it happens in side her head.

I imagined Missy Peregrym as Melanie, and I made a whole list of who else I imagined in the cast.

Yes, if it hadn't been for the fact that it was Steph Meyer who wrote the book, I probably would not have attempted to continue on past the first few chapters. It does get so interesting near the end though. And it continues the plot like you want it to - it doesn't end at the perfect spot where you want more.

As for the cast... I agree with all of you. I really want an unknown cast, however if Ian Somerhalder could be cast as Ian (a character who comes up later on) I will be oh so pleased. That's what wrecked Twilight for me - they've hired too many known names. I liked Twilight at the beginning because other than Rob I hadn't really heard of any of the other actors.

So we'll see how casting goes... I wish this book was as popular as Twilight!
