My favorite character really is Umbridge, but I choose to put her despite your request not to because I have an unatypical reason for not liking her. I think she's a poorly written character and don't really care about her villainy. She's not sufficiently fleshed out beyond a two-dimensional level of playing the straight, black-and-white bad guy to actually work outside of the all encompassing MOM take-over of Hogwarts that was thrown into "Order of the Phoenix". If she didn't hold all of the power in the story, she wouldn't nearly be as threatening as what she is and she'd be noticably dull.

It alternates between Harry and Ron. I'd say in every book except "Order of the Phoenix" Harry is better than Ron, in my opinion.

Harry's huge angst spree in "Order of the Phoenix" was terrible; I was very excited in "Half-Blood Prince" to see him cope with his loss and his burdens to become a much better, much smarter young man.

My book ships are my canon ships and my personal preferences. The fanfic ships are personal preference after reading some truely amazing works.

It depends. For ships appearing in the actual books my answer is the same as above. I have several favourite fanfic ships but I don't want those appearing in the books (well apart from maybe Harry/Draco but I can't see that happening).

Harry. It was a tough one though as Sirius comes a very close second.

Sirius. I was heartbroken by the end of OOTP. Padfoot lives on though especially in fanfiction.

Ginny. For once I agree with Tom Riddle she really is a 'very silly little girl'. My issues mainly stem from HBP though as I quite liked her in OOTP. I despise anyone who behaves they way she did in book six.

I don't really have a least favourite character in the trio. I love all of them, they all have qualities that make them special. Just that Harry is my favourite.

9. What is the worst character flaw to be found in the books and which character has it?

Ginny's cold hard attitude in HBP made my blood boil but the worst flaw is probably evil, although that sounds a little predictable.

I'm 20 years old, 21 in May in case anyone was interested.

Ginny in HBP. She had a complete character change and her 'relationship' with Harry came out of nowhere. What was all that about?

I really hope that no-one else dies who is important to Harry and the story. I think we have seen quite enough death. I wouldn't be bothered if Ginny, Dean, Seamus etc died. They don't have a big part to play as far as I am concerned.

Probably Lavander Brown. She annoyed me so much in HPB and she wasn't really there in the other books apart from being a giggle.

Relationship of four years.

It's actually quite funny how Johnny and I started out a lot like Ron/Hermione. We used to bicker about everything and tried to make each other jeleous by being with other people in front of each other. Thankfully we have grown out of that now and have a very steady loving relationship.

16. Have you ever had a best friend of the opposite sex?

My best friend Matt has been my best friend for years and we have never once got together. It's silly to say that people from the opposite sex can't just be friends.

17. What ship of the main ships is most unlikely to happen?

Probably the slash ships which is a shame, some of them are very exciting when done properly. Out of the main two ships I would have to say Harry/Hermione, I think Jo has made herself perfectly clear.

18. How big a part of the books does or will romance play? small /med/large

I think it will play a large part. Dumbledore has always stressed that the one power that Voldemort doesn't understand is love and that it may be his downfall. That's a hint that I think we should take.

19. Do you believe that JKR is using the red herring method in her books when it comes to romance?

No I don't to be honest. Some of her hints have been so heavy that it would be silly for her to turn around and say 'actually no this is the real pairing' people would get confused.

20. Why do you believe other people ship differently than you?

Because it's fun. The world would be a very boring place if we all thought the same thing. It's all about personal preference. I'm nt sure that I do ship differently though because when reading fanfics I love all pairings.

Again probably the slash ships; I don't think the world is quite ready to see them yet, regardless of how many of us treasure them. Harry/Hermione is something that I don't expect to see in book seven, I personally think Jo has made this perfectly clear.

I think a bit of everything can be considered canon. It's silly not to use all the knowledge available to you. The books are the most obvious canon though.

The books were the main reason for my canon ship, along with a little sprinkling of the movies. My fanfic ships are mainly from reading some of the great fanfiction that is out there.

I think she's trying to clue people into the fact love will play a big part but I think the actual "romance" is a device she uses to lure you toward the actual clues.

I adore Ron and Hermione, but i also think Harry/Ginny are good together. Bill and Fleur I questioned at first, but after she stuck by him I liked them more. I guess Arthur and Molly don't really count since they're already married, but I think they're cute. Neville/Luna would make me happy. Sirius/Remus would've been a good match, but I think you had to admit that JK wasn't going to write it that way. Lupin/Tonks is just as fine by me.

Neville/Luna won't happen in canon but I see it as plausible, even if JK said no. She wouldn't have the time or space to develop a relationship between Neville and Luna, and it's not really important to the plot. We can dream, though.

This is really hard, because they all have their bright spots. I do love Hermione and Ron. And Harry of course, though he can be a bit moody.

There's a bunch that I'm very fond of-Ginny, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Sirius, Fred & George, the rest of the Weasleys (except Percy), Dobby, etc.

7. Who is your least favorite character(other then the villains)? I really hate Umbridge, so much that i consider her a villain. I don't really like Fudge or Scrimgeour, but I don't think they're quite evil, just not so good.

They all have their moments of being irritating, but they complement each other. I think the three of them are best together, and I add Ginny in too, because I think she helps Harry lighten up.

Everyone has flaws to some degree. The villains have the most obvious flaws because we're meant to hate them. Harry's flaws are also pretty noticable to me, but then, we also read about him the most, so it's understandable. Ron's flaws also irritate me to no end.

Stan Shunpike seems kind of useless to me. He was interesting to read about and all, but I don't know why JK gave him so much of his own subplot. She must have something brewing.

15. If you had to classify your relationship by a literary convention or cliche which one would it be?

"Opposites attract." My relationships remind me a lot of Ron/Hermione, which is probably why I favor them so much. I'm the smart bookish one and the guy I love is the outgoing athletic one. I'm bossy, he's insensitive, we're both stubborn, we have all the pointless rows, there's a bunch of similarities. We even look somewhat like them: me, the brown-eyed brunette, and him, the gangly freckled red-head (though the hair color isn't natural, it's dyed, I admit). We've known each other and been on-and-off for three years, and are currently off. I had another relationship for over a year in between that time with a guy I refer to as my version of Krum (read: we figured out we're better off as friends). Now I'm in the phase of what happened in HBP, where I'm alone while my "Ron" is enjoying his freedom and looking for a "Lavender Brown." So I'm hoping that everything works out for he and I like I'm sure it will for Ron and Hermione. It's a book-they are guaranteed a happy ending.

To me, they play a huge part, because I'm a hopeless romantic. But I think JK intended for love to be really important, in all of its forms.

Yes. I think JK uses red herrings to keep the romantic plots from developing too quickly and becoming inappropriate for younger readers. From early on in the books, a lot of possible couples could be imagined, but she couldn't have them happen right away. If Harry weren't diverted by Cho, he and Ginny might've been snogging in the common room a little sooner. Also, the diversions keep things realistic. I want Ron and Hermione to end up together because it's a book and it's romantic. But if they hadn't seen anyone else before each other and had instead dated happily for years, it wouldn't be so believable.

20. Why do you believe other people ship differently than you?

Some people don't like the reality of the canon ships, so they prefer to imagine them otherwise. These people are usually calm about it. Other people stubbornly refuse to acknowledge canon and instead desperately try to prove their own versions. I think this happens more among the leading ships. The fringe ships that aren't crucial to the plot aren't debated so viciously. Another influence on who people ship is their own life experience. I know I prefer Ron and Hermione because I can relate, but I'm also positive that they're backed up by canon no matter my personal beliefs. However, if I related more to the idea of Harry/Hermione, it might be easier for me to see that as a possibility.

I consider Harry/Hermione sunk, and I admit I'm very happy about it.

Strictly canon would have to be the books for me. My second authority after the books is quotes from JK herself, and the movies are last, because they are the most distanced from her. Following that logic, it might seem like her quotes should be more canon than the books, but you have to keep in mind that everything she thought we needed to know is in the books. Everything else she chooses to reveal is just an extra gift, so to speak.

23. What kind of canon convinced you of your ship(not the what scene from the book convinced you but the movies or the books ect )

From the beginning I was for Ron and Hermione by the books. I love the movies, but they have way more of a Harry/Hermione slant than the books do, which irritates me. If people want to enjoy that aspect of the movies then I have no problem with it. I just don't like when they try to use scenes from the movies to contradict what happened in the books. The books are the original canon. If the movies differ that obviously then they've made a mistake.

The books, in elementary school. I don't think you can truly love Harry Potter without a love of the books. The movies are just a supplement!

Besides that I guess I would say, selfishness perhaps? I think there's a little bit of this in Harry, even if he does have a "saving people thing" I think like in the fifth book, he was self involved in the way that he thought everything was a bout/against him. (my I really do have it out for Harry in the fifth book don't I?)

The whole girl falls in love with guy best friend thing (although its a bit different from Ron/Hermione) we've been best friends since we were about three, and when he got a girlfriend, I suddenly realised I was jealous and that I liked him. He broke up with his girlfriend a month later, we had a little chat, and now I'm very happy!

(1997) So I told my mum we had to get PS from the library (she works there) so we got it out. I then was obsessed, in fact I desided we had to own the book there and then. So I tried writing the whole thing out. But my mother saw me and said Oh My gosh! Fine, we will buy you the book. So from then on, we were a totally obsessed household.

Harry/Luna, Neville/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, in that order -- though I'm not a particularly intense shipper. I just like the fanfic.

I hope that Harry/Luna and Neville/Ginny happen in canon, though I don't think it's very likely -- Harry/Ginny is set up pretty well at this point. Ron/Hermione is definitely going to happen. It isn't my "preference ship" so much as a ship that I'm resigned to, so I'll go along with it. I'm sort of halfhearted about that one; I liked Ron/Hermione much more prior to HBP.

3. What is your canon ship?
Ron/Hermione is looking most canon right now, though again, I don't like to call it "my ship." I'm not fervent about it at all; you wouldn't catch me dead in the Ron/Hermione thread, for example. I just accept it from a plot standpoint and moderately enjoy it in old (pre-OotP) fanfic.

4. What is your preference ship?
Harry/Luna and Neville/Ginny, though I also like Hermione/Terry Boot. I'm sort of a loner in that camp though.

Neville -- I was heavily influenced by the GoF movie. Very shallow.

Luna -- though I think her character was treated very poorly in HBP. I hope she re-emerges in Book Seven, because I think she has a good set of values. We need female role models more like her and less like Ginny in the series.

Ginny -- way too flirtatious and melodramatic. Not to mention an incredibly shallow sense of humor, ridiculous conception of "maturity," and total lack of sensitivity.

Hermione post-HBP -- needs to get a grip on her emotions. Ron was just as pathetic in Book Six, but as a female workaholic... Hermione was a major let-down.

Jealousy, and plenty of characters seem to have it. There's Ron who's jealous of Krum and Hermione who's jealous of Lavender and Harry who's jealous of Dean... and all for reasons which I consider illegitimate. Sure, I understand that you must feel badly if you like someone of the opposite sex and they don't like you back, but when we're talking about three best friends who are fighting a seemingly-immortal mass murderer... it drives me up the wall.

Maybe it depends on which characters you love most. I love idea of best friends becoming a romantic couple and Hermione has no better friend than Harry. Long term relations needs understanding, respect and support and I think that they have it. I cannot say it about other ships

Because they're not nearly as interested in fanon, and they've never read fics of the ships I'm interested in. (I'm of the opinion that the Tom/Ginny fics are of some of the best written). Also, they just may not like Ginny or find a Tom/Ginny or Ginny with any non Gryffindor a squicky thought.

In the case of Tom/Ginny, it's all COS mainly the book. A lot of it was my own thoughts of what it would be like to have a diary that talked back... as for Ron/Hermione, all the books. I figured they would get together from book one. Ginny/Draco has absolutely no canon convincing involved, it was just a thought thing (but I have read some pretty good essays that say there is support for it in OOTP and HBP)
