Do you lot think that lillly and lupin had a love affair?

all my love and roses

lilly rose.

Ps; can some of you please send my privet messages? wink.gif
Louise
I've moved this thread to the ships forum and renamed it as we didn't have a Lily/Remus specific thread.

Babyjapan
Yeah I think so, specially when I saw the 3er movie and Lupin told Harry how was Lily blink.gif
Mad_Eye_Sarah
No, i really dont think so. When sirus and Remus were about to kill peter they were says how they would never in anyway hurt James or Lily, he was a very close friend to both of them so i cant see him doing a thing like that.

I really don't think JKR is going to turn this into a soap opera. Sorry.

Long Live the Weasel King!
Well, if this is for supporters only, I don't think there will be much response . . .

But I'd have to say this is something I consider possible just because of the third movie. In the scenes where Lupin and Harry talk about James from the books, Cuaron had him talking about Lily. Which was one of two things that stood out in my mind as odd when I watched the movie. After watching the interviews where JK said "[Cuaron] instinctively put things in the movie without knowing it that foreshadow things I plan for the future books. There were times when seeing those things gave me the chills." (or something close to that) those two things took on a greater importance.

I don't think Lily and Lupin ever had "an affair" or a fling in Hogwarts. I do think it possible that Lupin had a crush on Lily. An unspoken, unrequitted crush.

Lupin is too honorable and loyal to his friends to ever act on that, however, once James showed he had a thing for her as well. Lupin is the type that would suffer in silence for his friends to be happy. Besides, being a werewolf, what sort of happiness could he offer her? I think Lupin allows his disability to rule his "other" life in that he does not want to be responsible for any accidents beyond his control. He doesn't want to hurt anyone.

Hmm...Didn't think anyone else thought of this ship.
Like others it was the third movie that put set this ship sail, for me. But seeing as it is a movie- you can't really take it seriously.

But looking at their personalities...I think they could have had something going on. They are both kind hearted and sweet. Again, Rowling probably won't put this into her story...seeing as there is nothing that adds to the plot- just drama.

But I am a HUGE fan of this ship! Remy/Lily is darling.

Am I the only one here?
electricacidho
I also wondered about Lily and Remus. I also kind of thought maybe the lily/remus/james triangle was sort of like the Hermione/Ron/Harry triangle. But like a few other people said, I dont think Remus would ever hurt James. But maybe something happened with Remus and Lily before James and Lily hooked up?

I also always thought that the way Lupin talks about Lily and says she helped him at one of his darkest moments was really significant and will come into play later on in the story.
Hermione_Resilda
I've wondered too. It seemed to me that Lupin admired Lily, maybe as a really close friend. They could've been close becuase they were both really smart and Lily was probably the prefect for Gryffindor, another way that they were close. At one point they could've liked each other, but since it hasn't worked out, Lupin was nervous to lose James as his friend..
Amy_Marie
I just find the ship SO dramatic for fanfictions and such. Think of it. James loves Lily. But Lily and Remus like each other. But Remus is friends with James.

I have written many a-fan fiction on this genre (...)
And it is interesting to do so...because Lily and Remus don't end up with each other.

And because he is a werewolf.

Great ship...and I can see it happening to. But then again it could be the third movie messing with our minds.

And is it just me or did their seem to be some friction between Remus and James? Re-reading the Prison of Azkaban...

+ James and Sirius thought Remus was the spy? So they didn't make him secret keeper.

+ If Harry had pictures from his parents wedding...why didn't he recognise Remus in any of them? He was one of his parents best friends....

It just makes sense to me...
zee_fleur
The way that Lupin talks about Lily it might seem that they have a sort of affair but I don't think that Lupin was bitter about it towards Jame if anything really did happen between them
harrietpotter
I thought this a little bit too.. i guess the third movie he didn't really talk about James as much, more Lily, but he talked about James in the book. You can't really judge it by the movies.

However, it could be possible. The idea of them being prefects together could be when Lily helped Remus, they were both smart. I think this was kind of one-sided maybe. JKR said in an interview on mugglenet that Lupin was very fond of Lily, but would never do anything to hurt James because he knew he liked her. So Lupin was grateful he had friends for the first time, and just didn't do anything about it.
Padfoot4Ever
I think he may have liked her at school. JK said she was popular. Maybe they did have a thing at school. Lupin says he wouldn't do anything to hurt them but it could have happened before their time. He does seem to have liked her. Hmmm... I could see it. He may have possibly like her while she was with James but didn't do anything because of their friendship.
ScarletWoman
Well, JKR has said in interviews that Alfonson Cuaron revealed some clues that would be important later on in the books. Perhaps this is one of them. I think that Lily knew about Lupin's condition and helped him see that he was still a good person underneath it all and he eventually grew to love her and love that she loved something in him.

I've always found it curious that Sirius, Snape, and Lupin have never had girlfriends. I think it could be because Lupin and Snape loved Lily but couldn't do anything about it, because of James. As for Sirius, he's kind of childish, but we still love him.
ILoveHarryPotter07
First off I have to say I agree with Scarlet Woman..It is very curious that Lupin never had a girlfriend. Although it could have had somthing to do with his apperance..athough thats not everything. And Snape is just Snape tongue.gif and Sirius as you said is childish. I have always kind of thought that Snape had somthing for her..and it seems Lupin does too. Like the way he talked about her in the 3 movie..and how she was always a good friend to him. Plus we know that Lily was pretty..But I honestly don't think that Lupin would have tried to date her because James was in love with her..and Lupin seems very honest and the type of person that wouldn't date their best friends love behind their back.

just like many others, I too was watching PoA the other day, and was reminded of the time that J.K. said that she was amazed at how much information was given away during the scene where Lupin is describing Lily and James to Harry. My own mother, who is also a HP fan, said that it is quite possible that Lupin was in love with Lily. Before, I had not given this much thought, but now the idea intrigues me. So yes, I do believe that could have happened. It must have been depressing for Lupin, for her to marry one of his best friends.

It is like that song by the Cars, called "My Best Friend's Girl." Has anyone else heard of it?
Harry_Ginny777
i just watched PoA and yes Remus lupin seemed rather into Lily Potter i think he liked her when James didn't and was to scared to ask her out because of James, sirius and peter they might have made fun of him but then when lily and james got married luoin still had these feeling for her but i dont think he would hurt his good friend james like that (taking his wife) lupin is to nice and to good of a friend to do that.
ILoveHarryPotter07
I think that they also had a lot in common so maybe they were a couple before her and James or maybe it went no further than Lupin having a crush on her. I agree in POA he spoke very fondly of her. But there is also the aspect of Lupin not wanting to date anyone because of his being a warewolf as we see with Tonks. So if he did like her it is very possible that no one knew about it. As for it ever happeining..I think those chances were slight. From what I get so far from Lily's personality she was very intelligent and probably spent a good amount of her free time studing and working. Even thought she is decribed as being very pretty I dont think she had that many boyfriends. Although Remus seems like her type a little. He was a hard worker and he read a lot..also he wasn't immature..so maybe if they did go out, it didn't work out because they were to much like each other.
Courtney
K.Lupin_werewolf
you know i have always thought that is was very big possibility. i mean the way lupin spoke about her in the POA it seemed he was hiding he's feelings . . . he obvisously felt something . . . she didn't care about lupin being a werewolf (like tonks) And i had a mad theory once. . . well yesterday . . . maybe James got jelous of Remus and Lily (cuz there were together) and then her broke them up somehow and used a potion or something on lily so she would like him . . . i mean come on what really happened to make her like James after all she said that she would rather date the school squid.

It's a bit mad i know . . .
baz
I think Lupin/Lily is a high possibility...and yes, it's all because of PoA. But if it was just this random sentimental moment why would they put it in? I think it's one of those hidden clues that people are talking about.

And, might I add, a few posts ago someone said it was strange that lupin, sirius and...I can't remember the third person (probably peter...but that's not the point) didn't have girlfriends. There is no evidence to suggest that they didn't.

A Lupin/Lily/James love triange seems, to me, unlikely that it will be included in the books sad.gif , but God! I love it!
bookwormofverymassiveproportions
I personally think that there was lily remus action. According
to what we have seen I think that they went out before
James started to like lily, maybe he even began to like
her when Remus and Lily were together, but they are
really very much alike as far as I can tell, but I think it
turned into a siblingy relationship, you know? Too alike
to really keep it going? But I think that Remus was okay
with James and Lily, and that he didn't really continue
to have feelings for her.
baz
I like what you say, bookwormofverymassiveproportions. (I like your name, but it's hell typing it). Like alot of people have said, I too believe that Lupin isn't the kind to hurt James by contuning with lily (if they were an item) when james fell in love. But human emotion can't always be controlled...
monicasara
i think, with the way remus talked about lilly, that he admired her A LOT.. but i don't think he and lily had a relationship other than cloe friends.. i also think that he knows james has a great liking for lily and that he wouldn't want to lose them both.
FleurDelacour
INtersting thought. That would be a real twist!! magic.gif
K.Lupin_werewolf
well i knnow alot of us seem to be judging Lupin's feelings for Lily on the 3rd film and to be honest that is where i got the idea from...

and i was just thinking... that is how is seems in the 3rd film... David takes on the role of Lupin really well and then all of a sudden in the bridge scene he starts talking about Lily and the way he speaks about her... now alot of peole seem to think that he must have very strong feelings for Lily. now for people who have not read the books that might be giving them the feeling that the two were intimatley linked so i was thinking...

in some parts of the movie (such as the way Lupin speaks about Lily) do the actors/directors/scriptwriters have ask permission from J.K to do such things? as they are not the way that they are done in the book is permission needed to make sure that they do not deliver the wrong signals to the audience??

all i know is that Lupin is meant to play a big part in the next book and so is Lily's back stroy... intresting...
JamesInfirmary
The way I saw the Lily/Lupin had scarily large amounts of similarities with Harry/Hermione. Here's that bit of dialogue:

QUOTE
Yes. I knew her. She was there for me at a time when no one else was. We used to talk for hours. She was not only a singularly gifted witch but an uncommonly kind woman. She had a way of seeing the beauty in whoever she met, even -- and perhaps most especially -- when that person couldn't see it in themselves...

That being said, I think that Remus/Lily and Harry/Hermione share the following similarities: The female is very intelligent, she was kind and gentle, and always helped the male in their darkest times (which, for Harry, included many of his struggles against Voldemort).

The relationship could of been there - but I think they were just drawn to other people (ie, James/Lily, Remus/Tonks, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione)
HPChic
I think that they were just friends. Lily helped Remus out in a dark time in his life when no one was there but her. I think that they both admire each other, but not enough to date. I'll read an occasional Remus/Lily fanfic if it's set in the Marauder Era, but I would rather see James/Lily and Remus/Tonks
m o o n l i tENTROPY
Well, she had to have some sort of boyfriend before her seventh year when she hooked up with James. After all, she was supposed to be beautiful, and, at least as fanfiction goes, popular. Since she hated every canon in that period we know about execpt for Remus, he would make sense. Besides, he needed love too! And the way he talked about her, he seemed as if they were at least very close friends at some point in their lives. So, I say yes, in school they were probably together at some point. It just makes sense... of course, my OTP is James/Lily, but I feel that the two ships can actually co-exist.
severus_eternal_love
i think that remus and lily had a lot in common.they were both smart, studied alot and with prefect duties probably spent alot of time together,i do believe that Remus may have fallen in love with lily and that she may have helped him with potions 2 ease the pain wen he turned into a werewolf. he is 2 much of a good person to express his affections for her when he knew James had fancied her and he probably thought he was unworthy given his condition and she deserved better. i think that he was reluctant in gettin close 2 her because he was afraid that if she found out wat he was she would judge him,i also think she found out and made him see that he was special wen he was blind to that fact

Remus is humble and he lived an unfair life.I dedicate The Unexpected Rhapsody to him and Severus both victims to the curse of unrequited love

As much as I simply HATE to admit it...

I think it might've been possible. But also a bit TOO much...

I think it's much more plausable that he and Lily were great friends, and that he DID love her. But not in THAT way...

nope i dont think it does huh.gif but in fanfics ppl usually put them as hazel but in my own i tend to give him blue eyes happy.gif i just think its cute

he probably thought he was unworthy given his condition and she deserved better

Yeah, I guess so. But I don't think Lily ever loved Lupin. Or even thought about it. See, she already was affectionate with Snape (and might have gone on to love him romantically as JKR said) but she fell for James. She was even close to Sirius, but there hasn't been any mention of a Lily-Lupin time, cept the fact that she was good to him. But well, hat doesn't make her romantically in love with Lupin, does it?
Gwenog
awwww the potterpuff is sooo cute...thank you for sharing wub.gif
its absolutely fine with me that they would have ended up together...okay okay if there was no James or he wouldnt be in love with her and her husband and all that...forget about that for a moment...
but seriously both are really nice, caring, intelligent, calm, emotional ...they match good as human beings and their personalities are so similar...they have lots in common...
I bet they would have been a good match together...seriously...thats sooo romantic... wub.gif
iluvviktorkrum
I think that lupin and lily either liked eachother or went out in their early years. Since they were both smart that had some interest in eachother. But then i think remus cared too much for james and soo he let james have her

The Master of Death
No offense to the guys who started this topic but i think this is a very stupid not brilliant idea i know in the prisoner of Askaban movie Lupin says that he loved lily but that was a film the producer and director added that part..in the book no one hints that.... so i really think this is a really not good idea
