So What will it be, make your choice and then if you could post a cool house name to go with the animal you choose, that would be great

I choose the Dragon, because its fierce and powerful. Also it's skin and meat and so on has so many magical qualitites.
As for a House name I would probably choose Dragonis or Dragonwings or something.

I would choose a Hippogriff because a unicron and a dragon is to powerfull, or waht should I say... to high ranked than the others. Cat and owl are to small I think..

Hippogriff- it could be like the warrior house. how cool is that

I had to go with the cat. The trouble is, none of the other animals associated with the existing four Houses are magical. We've got a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake (a snake is arguably magical because of the whole Parseltongue thing, I suppose...). If you threw a dragon or a hippogriff into the mix, for example, the other animals might feel bad in the midst of a powerful magical beast. Now how could that be good for inter-House unity, if the mascots were at war with one another?! So, bearing in mind the larger implications of the mascot selection for the entire school, I was forced to pick the cat.
This is probably an example of my worst overanalysis yet.

Just to make my already extremely strange post complete, I'll call my house Adegasgee House (I came up with that by dropping "Order of the Phoenix" on my keyboard and then translating the random letters into some understandable English form), meaning that the founder of the house is obviously Allison Adegasgee -- hey, I had to name
something after myself, didn't I?!

Oh, good choice Allie!
I was thinking of the same thing too when I saw the animals up for option. I wanted to pick unicorn at first actually, but then considering that the other animals are not from the magical kind, I have change my views.
I see dragon as the animal that encompass Hogwarts really (with its motto 'never tickle a sleeping dragon') so I pass that.
Unicorn and Hippogriff are magical, so have to pass on that too.
That leaves me to owl and cat. I wanted to pick on owl first because of their enigmatic characteristic (such an interesting creature they are,
read here). Then I remembered that owls is used quite widely in wizarding world, so it'll be a bit unfair to use them. It can be seen as a strength or a weakness towards the house, depending on how ones views them... 'Look at that, the only animals that proved useful to us is owls, they're always busy every morning during breakfast time. I don't see 'lion' do that...

'
OR 'Oi, these owls leaving feathers and droppings all over, thank God it's not my house's mascot! How humiliating!!'
So, lastly there's cat. Lion is in a cat family actually. So, having another 'cat-like' mascot might be repeatitive. So, after all this rambling... I dunno eh...

Can't we have other animals? Like horses or... or
sharks, maybe?

I chose the owl. The reason why I chose the owl was because I think they are magical creatures in the Harry Potter world. And they are so beautiful.

mmm I'm starting to see the Dilema here, Wish I had put more thought into the animals I selected. I agree the animal can't really be magical.
Maybe if a MOD is watching this, maybe the can add these animals to the list.
Dog
Stag
Rat
Wolf
Whale
Shark
Octapus
Dolphin
the first three seems more appropriate.

Done!!

However, you are only allowed to put up a maximum of 11 options, so I've put whale/shark/dolphin together since they are of the same family.
I'm a bit pushed for time at the moment, but I'll drop by later and place my vote...

I choose owl. The houses' personality'd be a kind of Ravenclaw-Hufflepuff mix. Not quite smart enough for Ravenclaw bbut don't fit into tht Hufflepuff bunch.

Well i picked unicorn. They are so majestic and pretty. I think that it would be awesome. WE should think of names...that would be hard.

May 21 2005, 08:02 AM
No Unicorn, Dragon and Hippogriff, altough I love Unicorns... They are magical, and the lion, serpent and the other two not.
A dog... no, that's to Huffelpuff-ish. Hm... A cat is family of the lion, like zyra123 said.
I voted for Dolphin, it's not the same as the others. Now we have walking animals, flying animals and swimming animals!

I chose dolphin, 'cause I like water and everything what's connected with it. Dolphins are sweet, clever and... cool.

May 28 2005, 06:13 PM
I chose owls because they are birds used a lot by the wizarding world. But I don't think it should be hippogriff, unicorn or dragon because they are magical creatures and are not real. But the badger, lion, snake and falcon(I think for Ravenclaw) are all real animals.
Ghost
May 28 2005, 06:34 PM
Raven claw has a raven for there house animal.
I chose a shark because a shark is tough as nails and is quite smart. There for the students that are in it are not as brave as the Gryffindor students and not as smart as Raven claw students, but their more willing to do reckless thngs with their bodies and their tough with fisical things and their still pretty smart.
I couldn't think of a name but I'll keep thinking and try to come up with a good one and post it later.

It's no problem, Nawrehsuan.
I thought of a name, it's not very good but it's all I've got at the moment. The house could have been founded by: Shanon Shartruce. lol

I voted for the Dolphin because I really love dolphins. The characteristic of my House will be those who are intelligent and gentle but brave.
Dophins are intelligent creature. You can teach them and yet they are symbols for gentleness. But they can be brave.

I chose stag, because you don't want an extremely powerful animal, such as a dragon to sorta 'bear down' on the lesser houses. That goes to say for the smaller creatures also, like the cat. You don't want them to feel unimportant. Stag because it's a nice nuetral animal with many original qualities that could represent a group of people.
kool kat
Jul 3 2005, 04:22 PM
I voted for Hyppogriff because it's something that represents caution around others, but can be very powerful. I don't know, I just like it!
tonks1118
Jul 29 2005, 01:25 AM
I like this one! I voted for stag because it is powerful, but not out of the league of a lion or snake, like a hippogriff would be because it is more than one animal together. I don't think another bird though because there is already a raven.
the name could be prongia or something, they could be prongians??? maybe?

sounds a little weird?
QueenWeasley
Jul 29 2005, 01:29 AM

I chose a dog because that's Ron Weasley's patronus (like a Jack Russel) *teehee*
and also, dogs are very loyal and cuddly and intelligent. Just like Ron

I put dragon. But I would have wanted it to be a phoenix. And I know its not the question but !!!SPOILER SPOILER!!! I think they should add another house and name it after Dumbledor. With the Phoenix as the animal.

I chose a stag because the other animals are non-magical and I think it would look cool on the coat of arms. Also it's a tribute to James!

I chose cat because they are smart, steathly, and constantly aware. As for the name of the house, I'd say... Prowlers or something like that. Never was that good at names.

i'd vote for an owl. we all know that when we say owl, it means wise. we do have the ravenclaw for wise students. but another thing why i had chose owl, is that the students under it could be the most updated ones. what i mean is.... they're the one's who spread rumors or any recent news happening at hogwarts or even in the muggle world.

i certainly agree with lulu that dragons and unicorns are really powerful. well, if ever there would be house of dragons and unicorns it should be consists of the teachers themselves....
i was also thinking of a phoenix... but i have decided that phoenixes are for great wizards and witches of all time only like dumbledore. i love phoenixes! for me they're immortal and symbolizes eternal life!

i'd have to go with the stag. they seem to be a bit more noble than all the other choices. good posture you know. it would be Anavrin house.

id go for wolf(as i did)!
because it's my favorite animal of all time!
for the following reasons id go for wolf for hogwarts animal:it's wild, unable to capture

,brave,beautyfull,sexy and mutch more!

I voted for the wolf. I think it's a powerfull but also social animal. Wolfs are united in troups, and that's what makes them so strong, they bundle their powers to become stronger.

Wow...great poll!!!
Well, I chose a Dolphin because I think dolphins represent a personality type that is not portrayed by the current Houses. Dolphins are little, cute, and usually funny (whether intentionally or not) animals. The House can be named Watsqueak House....Dolphins live under Water and they make squeaking noises!
Gryffindor (lion) represents the courageous and brave
Ravenclaw (eagle) represents the wise and studious
Hufflepuff (badger) represents the loyal and patient
Slytherin (serpent) represents those who will do anything to achieve what they want
If you still do not get what I mean, some students that may be placed in the Dolphin House would be:
-Luna Lovegood
-Fred and George Weasley
-Collin and Dennis Creevey
-Moaning Myrtle
etc.....

i must choose the dragon because dragons are so completely awseome. They probably are a little too powerful compared to the other houses, but it could be a house for the most powerful wizards.

Unicorn to represent the artistic and creative people!
as for the name, Imagine (imaginus, imagino, something name-like you get the jist)
*Rachel*

Dragon seems very competitive. Maybe the real athletes would get put in that house. I dunno. I like dragon better than rat. Unicorn was my second choice.

Dec 14 2005, 06:18 PM
I said a unicorn cos the person who goes into that hose would have to have a kind heart and has to be a pure person inside, meaning loyal and understanding.I chose a unicorn cos they are so rare and I am positive there are people out there who are like that.

this is a pretty cool poll, i chose a dragon house. See there are a lot of great creatures in the wizarding world but with dragons everyone has such a special respect for it, a dragon symbolizes power, magnificent looks and a afraid respect.

when I first read the question I immediately though of a pheonix - I'm not entirely sure why, it just popped into my head, it may have been because I was thinking of DD
but then again none of the other animals are magical (sorry I know this has already been addressed) so then I started trying to see what is perhaps missing there is a bird (ravenclaw), a Reptile (Slitherine), and two mammels (gryffindor and Hufflepuff ) (sp?)
so my idea about a wolf would have to go (even though I love the idea) because there are already two mammels, and the lion is feline whereas the badger is sort of canine so to add another canine would also unbalance things
what about adding another mammel that is a herbivore then, because the lion is a carnivore, the badger is primarily an omnivore which does leave a gap for a herbivore - so then what about the
stag
because it is (I think a herbivore)
also, it would be very very appropriate because the other four are from the founders and a stag is not only James' animagus form but also Harrys' patronus - Harry being the chosen one and savour - so maybe another house could be added to honour his bravery and defeat of the darkest wizard ever
ok that logic is a little bit wierd (it definately sounded better in my head), sorry it is completely muddled
LilyPotter
Jun 11 2006, 10:47 PM
I chose Hippogriff, because I love buckbeak
Honestly, I would go in a completely different direction and choose the
Phoenix. The
phoenix is an intelligent, loyal, brave, highly magical creature. I think it would make a fine mascot.
I would call my new house "
Dumbledore" after our beloved ex-headmaster

Jun 11 2006, 10:51 PM
I chose a stag because a magical creature like a dragon or unicorn wouldnt fit, since none of the other houses animals are magical, and by chosing a magical creature it could mean the house is superior. A stag is peaceful, and proud, and um sort of stands for honor, and proudness. A stag seems aproppriate, i dunno, it seems to fit the other animals.
A stag could stand for free spirited, creative people, it just would seem aproppriate.

Jun 12 2006, 03:21 AM
I chose a dragon, well for one, because I like dragons, and two, because they are powerful yet gracefull creatures and I those would be good trade marks for a house. It would be somewhat like the snake, but a dragon is much cooler.
got harry?
Jun 15 2006, 11:05 PM
I chose a unicorn because they are beautiful and powerful creatures!
They're smart and clever too...
I think they would represent the house for students with a bit of all the other houses in them!
