I was thinking Kiera Knightley...though I'm not positive why. Can't imagine her with pink spiked hair. She just seems like a great young actress, I suppose.

Natalie Portman would be an excellent choice, too. Now that I think of it...that's the best choice I've heard of yet.

As for Keira, well, don't get me wrong she's talented, but i can't see her playing tonks.

Well, there are many actresses that I think would be good for Tonks, but I don't know who. I think a new actress would be good for Tonks.

I could play tonks... but hey couldn't afford me! LOL just kidding it's funny though that everyone seems to think kiera would be a good tonks though, becuase all my friends call me the kiera knightley look alike I even have my own signature lol this is too funny!





But anyways, I think kiera would do good as tonks she's a very talented girl, she's one of my fav actresses. I just can't picture her in hp though.... Who knows who they'll pick. I also thought that Natelie would be a good choice for Tonks. She has the right presence for it. Accually I think I'd like her for tonks over kiera, but I agree with others here that a new actress would be good for Tonks, it'd be a good break out role.

Also, they have amaziingly real looking wigs nowadays, (take Alias for example) the actress they choose for tonks might not have to dye her hair if they can find the right wigs. Though I suppose coloring would be preferable.

I dont think Keira Knightley would make a good Tonks. I guess she is "too famous" to be able to play Tonks. I mean if i look at her i see the girl from the Pirates of the Carribean(sp) and Jules from Blend it like Beckham. But probably its my own problem, and everybody else will be fine with her.

in my opinion they should chose a no-name actress.

I think an unknown would be best. I'd go for Alanagh McEleney - she's the right age and not as "pretty /perfect" looking as Keira Knightley.
On the other hand, as she's a metamorphmagus thy could cast a few actresses in the role.

mayb kate winslet, shes an amzing actress and she looks good with colored hair (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind) the only thing would be is her face i bit to plump for the tonks i imagine

If you've seen the movie "Closer," you would know that Natalie looks great with pink hair.

Kate Winslet is an awesome actress, but maybe she's a bit too old. But she's the best one I've heard of so far. I guess Keira Knightley would make a good Tonks, but I don't know of that many British actresses.

Scarlett Johansson seems like a good choice for Tonks, since she was wearing a pink wig in Lost In Translation. You wanna know what's funny? The lead singer from the '80s pop/rock band Missing Persons (anybody heard of it?) Dale Bozzio should play Tonks, even since her trademark was the shocking-pink hair. But, she's probably too old to be playing a twenty-something wizard.

I dont know who should play Tonks but I hope its not Keira Knightley. She just irritates me for some reason.

How about Gwen Stefani?She would make a good tonks if you ask me.

Keira knightly would be ALRIGHT at tonks ,but i think we're in need of a new face!!!

I was on the way to Blackpool last week and the movie they played on the coach was Four Weddings and a funeral.

As I was reading OoTP, I glanced up and saw who I think would be great at playing Tonks.

Charlotte Coleman who played Scarlett in that movie. For some reason when I saw her in the film I automatically imagined her as Tonks. She would be perfect.

I think that even her voice would be perfect - I can just imagine her saying "wotcher Harry".

Yeah, I mentioned her a while back...page 1 somewhere maybe. I thought she'd be utterly perfect too, but unfortunately, and very tragically, she died of an asthma attack a few years ago. I was really upset when I heard that because she was so young and it seems like such an unnecessary thing to have happened when treatments now are so good. *sigh*

I quite like that '12 rounds of white' girl from 'Dinnerladies'...she used to do kids TV in the 80's, but I can't think of her name now. I'll edit later if I remember....

I think Gwen would make a good Tonks, but I also think she's not the perfect Tonks. I can't really picture Keira Knightley as Tonks, she's good at the things like Pirates of the Caribean, but she's too 'perfect'for Tonks. Don't forget Tonks supposed to be clumsy and all and Keaira just seems too serious for such a part. Natalie Portman, on the other hand, would make a good Tonks *starts imagining her with pink hair which isn't really working because of the Star Wars pic in her head XD!* But I think the best Tonks will be an actress whose new or fairly new.

Well, I really think keira is a good actress, and if she really is like i think, she should beable to play a serious role and a 'clumsy' role. its taken me awhile to get used to the thought, but i'd really like her to be Tonks.

I would love to see Natalie Portman play Tonks, but i can't see hear with a cockney accent, and as Tonks says 'Wotcher' all the time she undoubtly has. Also our Keira she is rather perfect insn't she?

How old is tonks anyway?

As many above me have said I don't know many British actresses except Kiera and Elizibeth Hurly so that kinda leaves my opinion to an uneducated guess. I don't know if she is from the UK but wouldn't Niccole Kiddman bee good. I don't know where she is from. I know she lives in LA but i didn't know if she was born in the UK.

Nicole Kidman would be good, but she's from Australia believe it or not! She can do a perfect english accent in my oppinion however (the others, moulin Rouge etc...)

but i think she's a wee bit too old! Tonks was too young to join the order the first time which makes me think she's only in her mid twenties.

I've thought of someone else I'd think be a good Tonks. It's not very likely she'd be cast though since she's dutch ^^. I was watching X-men and I thought Famke Jansen could be a good Tonks. She plays Jean Grey in X-men. What do you think?

No, I've always had Charlotte Coleman in mind, but seeing as how it can't be her now (sniff ) I think someone more like Jane Horrocks or Emma Chambers would be perfect...it's got to be someone sparky and small...

I don't think anyone American would be cast, or anyone who's a huge name to be honest. I think that would kind of eclipse the 'ensemble' thing that the HP movies seem to revolve around.

What about Alyssa Milano? She is young, funny, and she has spunk. Everything that is made up of Tonks.

How old is Tonks supposed to be? I thought early-mid twenties, ruling a lot of people out like Nicole Kidman, Liz Hurley or Gwen Stefani (?? She's not even an actress!) .

I always pictured Gail Porter as Tonks for some reason, but when I was on IMDB the other day, someone made the suggestion of Sophia Myles - she played Lady Penelope in the Chunderbirds movie a while ago.

I think she's as good a choice as any.

Kidding aside (well, sort of), Keira K. and Natalie P. would be great Tonkses. I can't think of anyone else except for them and me.

By the way, I hope the casting people would also look for that chemistry, so that David Thewlis (who's Lupin) and their selected Tonks could pull off that romantic angle. I absolutely LOVE how they got together in the book and I'm really wishing that in the movies, it would be even more romantic.! =)

What a cool name! I am interested to see who portrays her in the Order of the Phoenix movie, even though, truthfully she doesn't seem to have a lot to do in the book, plot-wise. However, in my mind she is a very memorable character, perhaps because she is plucky Gen-Xer aged character (like me) in a world full of school-aged kids and older teachers and villians. Plus, it would provide some age-appropriate eye-candy for HP movie fans like myself (ie: hetero, Gen-X-aged male.) Is it just me or does it seem that the female fans out there have more to, um, swoon over in the HP films than us guys (esp. GOF)? (Not that I really watch them for that reason, but, oh well...) So who can I imagine playing the young ' punky' cockney-accented spikey-haired witch? On first blush, Kiera Knightly does seem like an, er, attractive choice, and unlike others, I can imagine her with spiky pink hair (or blue, or purple, or whatever Tonks fancies at the moment!) I also like the idea of Natalie Imbruglia too -- she's got the accent (though she's actually Australian, right?) and does the pixie haircut thing well, too.
Somehow, Natalie Portman doesn't seem quite appropriate though, even though she is very attractive and a great actress to boot (esp. in The Professional, co-starring with the equally awesome Gary Oldman in his pre-Sirius Black days.) However, she's not British, and to me Tonks is very much a young cockney brit and whoever portrays her must be very authentic for the part!
As far as just 'looking the part' though I actually think that actress Julianne Nicholson would be great for the part, simply because she has that cute 'heart-shaped' face and punky/pixie look for Tonks as described in the book. Check it out!:

The funny thing is I had never heard or seen her before coming accross her featured in the 'rumored-to-be-cast' section of this website. She had been rumored to be considered for the role of a young Lily Potter 'flashback' scene but I think, from these photos at least, she would make a much better Tonks!

mainly because i think that she should have nothing else attached to the actress

By the way, I was surfing the web a few days ago when I came across this petition made by this girl who wants to play Tonks. She even bought a domain just to be Tonks. According to her website, she's this actress, but I've never heard of her.

I would prefer a newbie, thye got them for hte students and she's not htat much older than them anyway I dont think Kate or Keira are right, they are too pretty. I always thought of Tonks as being more humorous and tomboyish, but still spunky.

Yeah, I don't know about kate, she's really pretty and femininem, I guess I didnt picture her in the part. You are right about a heart shaped face, its not a skinny face, just pretty much means a pointy chine and roundish cheeks.

I honestly believe that they will choose an actress that isn't well known. Keira Knightly is getting really popular right now (she has a new movie coming out, DOMINO, where she plays a bounty hunter. I don't think she's believeable as a hardcore bounty hunter, but that's just me ).

I think we can take note from previous films on the casting:
Fleur Delacour - Clemence Posey (a virtually unknown actress)
Cho Chang - Katie Leung (unknown actress)
Not to mention the three main parts: Harry, Ron and Hermione (Dan, Rupert and Emma). They were all virtually unknown prior to being cast.

This movie series seems to generally choose people are aren't very well-known. I think they want to focus on the story and the characters, rather than the "star-power" of the actors. Keira is just too famous and unfortunately, so is Natalie Portman. I think the actress that plays Tonks will be someone most of us haven't heard of before. Who agrees? LoL

As far as I know they haven't started casting fot OOTP yet, but when they do, if you have some experience, you should definately try out! Good luck!

I agree with you, HermioneNymphadora. It's probably going to be an unknown actress. I mean, prior to the HP movies, I only knew Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort). So even though I would like Keira, Natalie P and Natalie I to play Tonks, it wouldn't be so.
