I'd like to mention something that's been bothering the other moderators and I for quite some time now and that is the habit that a lot of members on here have been getting into lately of making moderator-type posts - telling other members off, asking them to read the rules, telling people that their threads are going to be locked etc.

I understand that you're intentions are good but it is seriously beginning to get annoying for several reasons. Firstly, sometimes the tone used is curt and can sound a little off. As moderators, we try very hard to be patient, especially with new members and it really annoys us sometimes that people are sarcastic, quippy and short with people which is going to put them off posting again.

Secondly, the threads pointed out may not be correct - there are reasons why we make the decisions we do and why we point out certain threads to certain members.

Thirdly, it confuses the members, particularly new ones, as to who exactly is controlling things around here.

Now, I want to reiterate again that we are grateful that you are taking an interest in the forum, but at the same time, we would ask you to please use the REPORT button if you see a post that requires our attention. DO NOT reply to that person yourself. There is a moderator around on this forum most of the time, whether or not you see their names on the 'online' list and it is never very long before an issue is dealt with.

Another thing - please don't think that by making such posts you will be offered a moderator position. You won't be. We have all the moderators we need here for the moment and none of us have any plans to leave and if we ever did, then future moderators are generally recommended by outgoing ones so the only way to ever stand a chance of becoming a moderator here is to behave yourselves, pay attention to the rules, contribute something more to the discussions than one liners and respect the existing moderators. Making edits and quips around the site only complicates things and irritates us, making the likelihood of you being recommended a zero.

Please, please stop it. I'm asking nicely. I won't ask again. If this continues, the other mods and I are going to have to start sending out some official warnings. I hope that's not necessary.
