What can I say, I was bored and I thought up this idea for a poll (and as far as I can tell, this hasn't been done before...I looked!). Just wondering how you guys most often refer to Voldemort in your postings/discussions. I know I usually call him Lord Voldemort. Hmm, I should start calling him The Dark Lord, after all, that is what his followers call him.

I either use Voldemort or Lord Voldemort, I think Lord Voldemort makes him sound like somone powerfull and I like that. Strong character he is.

I prefer calling him Tom Riddle or the fan-made name, VaporMort

They both mock his defiance of death and humility.

I merely stop at Voldie or Voldy. Sometimes, I even use LV. Voldemort or Lord Voldemort or He-Who-Must-Not-be-Named is just too long for me to type...
And I thought Voldie is kinda cute...

Although, he's not for whatever possible reason should be referred to with that adjective....

It's just something of a parody fanfic I read right now about him and Snape and the DEs.... kinda hilarious...

Voldemort, but I pronouce it as it should be as Voldemor, no t. The films put the t in to make it sound better, but I disagree.

I pronounce his name the same way. Didn't J.K. Rowling once say that's the correct way to pronounce it? I think it is. Anyone else here who has some background of the French language will agree with me on this one. The French word "mort" (meaning either 'dead' or 'death'; I'm not sure which one at the moment) has a silent 't' at the end.
As funny as I find it when people call him Voldie, I won't ever call him that. Sounds like a disgrace to his name...well, I suppose that's the point. I pity the person who's brave enough (or stupid enough) to call him that to his face! Hehe, can you imagine his reaction:
Random Person: Hiya Voldie!
Voldemort: CRUCIO!

Voldy! How cute!
I call him Voldemort, Lord Voldemort or just Voldy. Never You-Know-Who (well, only when I'm writing a fanfiction

).

Ah, but you're asking what *I* would call him. Not any other random person would be -- as you put it -- stupid enough, to do it in front of his face, didn't you?

He's a fictional character, why would I have to be terrified for calling him that? And disgrace? Why not? He's not one you would respect and bow to, is he? And how different can this be with 'Vapormort'? You didn't think he wouldn't cast the crucio curse hearing someone call him that, did you?

Besides, in the parody I am reading, he send some yellow roses to Snape because of the guilt of crucio-ing him...

Before you ask, it's a
parody fanfic. It's to be expected for...

That depends on the situation, here upon the forums I always call him Voldemort or LV (when the post gets long and I'm to lazy to type his name out) when chatting over MSN to my best friend I call him Voldy and talking with someone I always call him Voldemort

90% of the times I speak about Voldemort I call him either "Voldemort" or "Lord Voldemort" or "LV"
However...it also depends on the context of what I am writing...If I am talking about him as a child, or while he was in Hogwarts, I almost always call him "Tom Riddle"

I usually call our little Voldemort here (

) Voldie. It's my nickname for him. But other times, when I'm with my friend who knows I'm an HP dork, I call him 'You-Know-Who' just to seem like I'm 'magical'.

Then, if I'm here on the forums and don't feel like typing out a long name, I just use LV.

I like this very good to be honest I call him voldy the most just because its short and quick.
But I have a suspicion that if I thought he was more terrifying I would call him Voldermort not because of the way he is described. its just I don’t really think about it much I am more in books for the suspense and the intriguing story lines but the description of a person I never get very well in my head I start going off on a tangent for what I think they should look like.

It depends. If I'm having a dicussion with my family about him, I usually call him Voldemort. But if I'm explaining the books to someone who's never read the series (shame on them!), I just call him Voldy. I couldn't imagine a word in our world that's so terrifying that we couldn't say it without stumbling or shaking.

Most often, Voldemort. When talking about him as a young person, he is Tom Riddle. In long discourses I might resort to "LV" for the sake of brevity. When talking about the Death Eater's point of view, I might mention "the Dark Lord". I wouldn't use the name "Voldy", because that just sounds silly.
lol, that reminds me of that entry in that wonderful thread "Things I'll Never Say" in the Lounge:

"Voldemort" translates out to "Flight of Death" in French (yay for handy French dictionary). It would be pronounced "Voldemor" sans 't' in French (if you were going for properness). The likelihood of JKR using this pronounciation is strong, as she is fluent in French, but I'm just as guilty as everyone else for calling him "Voldemort" with the 't' even though I've taken over four years of French and know better *bows head sadly*.
I voted for Voldemort because it's very to the point and specific for both fans and non-fans, although I am a heavy user of Voldy simply because it's short, sweet, and I honestly don't find him that utterly intimidating. I think I may be forced to start calling him Vapor-Mort, though. That's horrible, but rather funny.

I normally call voldermort voldermort because that name suits him best and as hermione said fear of the name increases fear of the thing itself.

I put Voldemort because of what Hermione said: Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself!

Mmm..I use to call him Voldemort before, but since i'm a member on VTM, it's easier to write LV and V is just meaningless. And I almost always call him Voldy with my sister, but it happens sometimes to refer to him as The Dark Lord..it's nice

and it's powerful.

I call him the Dark Lord. My fanfic which will be coming soon to VTM is mostly about Death Eaters. Since I write as them so much, and they call him the Dark Lord, that's what I've gotten into the habit of calling him. Simple as that!

Voldemort because the others are just stupid or for followers (in the book they'r e not, but when you hear someone say it live...).
The Dark Lord is good for shortening it though. So hard to write it all the time.

I usually call him Voldermort (or LV when I'm feeling lazy on forums) I'm not entirely sure why
on a
silly very silly note:
I was just thinking, his ancestry is famous, but his parents weren't do you think that if he had famous parents then they would have called a celebrity-child sterotype name like Apple or Tinkerbell instead of simply Tom - Hey he said he didn't like tom because it was ordinar, he didn't say anythink about it having to be scary
on a sort of off topic note -
Not sure if anyone has noticed this (or even if it is notable) but do you know how DumbleDore always calls him 'Tom' I'm pretty sure that at the end of HBP (but I could be wrong) he calls him voldermort a few times - not sure if that means anything

When actually saying his name I say Voldemort...
In my posts it is usually Lord Voldemort if it is a short post, and, much more often, it's LV. Just like that...
Hey, what can I say, who wants to type out "Lord Voldemort" every single time they post something? I type LV for the same reason I type DD for Dumbledore. It allows me to express my thoughts more quickly.

I call him Voldermort. Oh just to let you know (dont know if you care or not), That on JK rowlings site ( www.jkrowling.com ) She says that people should stop calling Voldermort voldie or voldy, because it makes him sound cute and like a sweetheart (not sure of the exact wording she uses)

. I don't know why, I guess it's just shorter and sounds cute. Sometimes I call him You-Know-Who, also. It really depends on which one I feel like saying, but most of the time I just call him Lord Voldy

.

Maybe I'm a bad person but I already got used to the "dark lord" thing. Don't ask me why I just like this one best.
Voldie is, in my opinion, just as bad as calling Snape "Sevie"

What's Lucius then? Lucy???

I like the bad boys for being bad boys I don't want them to come across cute because of some strange nickname
