Each director has taken their own choice when it comes to how the actors should either wear their unifrom and/or different items to go with that uniform. With GoF seeing a more riggid jumper, cloak, tie look than that of PoA, which is more Hogwarts?

When initially watching PoA it didn't concern me in the slightest, but after watching through it again (and again) and seeing the new GoF pictures. I see that it is almost too slack a uniform for a British school.

For example, yes the top button on the shirt was always undone as soon as you left home, but the tie was always up to the neck properly tied.
If top button was insisted upon, then the ties design altered to that against the teachers wishes.

However come any classes with the more strict a teacher or the beginning of term assembly, the uniform was soon corrected. There would be no slack uniform approach in Mcgonagle's class for example.

Mike Newell's approach with the formal cloaks and rigid v-neck cardigan jumpers, is alot more formal than previously seen. And much more like a true old fashioned or boarding school.

Here are some examples through history of my old school's uniforms.

1955 schools first year
1960 on a field trip
1977 formal
1977 informal
2004 in class

I think that the GOF uniforms look most Hogwarts like.
Souljacker
oh I'm definitely going to go with non of the above.

as far as i can see theres nothing in the books which suggests that students of hogwarts should wear shirts ties and jumpers, surely (now not to sound like a crazed fanatic) these would be regarded as 'muggle clothes.'

in saying that I've only seen the first two movies and have seen nither the POA or the Goblet of fire clips, but in the first two movies the uniforms where one thing which really annoyed me! tongue.gif
Lulu
I liked the uniforms in all movies, but in PoA they had their uniform a bit more likely, like just the shirt on and the arms folded. Not everybody had it fully on. So I voted for Prisoner of Azkaban.
Allie
In the books they didn't have any of the various House insignia as part of the uniform... probably making things a bit easier for Harry, Ron, and Hermione when they were dealing with the Polyjuice Potion. The "Chamber of Secrets" movie always makes me wonder what Madam Pomfrey must have thought when Hermione showed up in the hospital wing with cat hair all over her face, a tail, and wearing Slytherin robes. I know that I would have started asking questions at that point, if I were her. tongue.gif

With that said, I voted for 'none of the above.'
SOTPandHPmagorfangirl04
The uniforms have been growing up with the charecters.smile.gif In COS and SS/PS they were how young chilldren would were the uniforms.POA and GOF are more teenager style of dress. I voted for POA because GOF isn't out so all we've seen is pictures.
tonks1118
I agree that they are growing up with the uniform as they get older it will look different because in Goblet of Fire it will suit them more I think. In PS it was sort of swarming them and it looked like it was annoying. Now they are more used to it. I liked PoA because they were dressed down in it alot and when reading the books i never pictured them as formal as they are in the movies. And I went to a uniformed high school and we savoured those less than frequent dress down days.
Lady Oymre
I've always thought that the clothes in the movies looked to "muggle like" what with the ties etc. Not only the school uniform but other people's aswell. This is going to sound weird but I expected the robes to be more robey.
Renate
The Uniforms were really boring. I mean, I was like, how could the kids know which house they were going to be sorted into?! Like, all their robes and stuff have the house name and colors on them and everything. There was NO mention whatsoever of that in the books.

Even when Harry and Ron took Polyjuice potion, they thought that Penelope was a Slytherin. There was nothing on her robes to say she was a Ravenclaw. Sheesh. And the darn robes aren't even floor length!

Formality help to form the mind, it's a way of teling all that we are together and the same. It's actuly not bad, you may alway do some customisation! and in this you can show who you are and wath is your iner personality...

I personaly had an uniform when I when to Chile (was in Canada previously). One other good thing is that it's a no brainer in the mornig, it's alwas the same... no mater what!

So I go for the GoF smile.gif

I always thought they would be wearing robes a lot more than they have, since that is what witches and wizards wear. In PS/SS (the book) opened, it talked about groups of people going about in strange and colorful robes. I thought that since these robes are typical wizard wear, that's how we'd see them at school.

In fact, it was a little disappointing to me that they spent much of PoA in very muggle-esque clothing. There's nothing to suggest that they're so unfamiliar with muggle clothing that they would wear pajama bottoms or something similarly quirky in public when trying to dress like a muggle.

Maybe if Tim Burton directed one of these movies ...
secretkeeper
I voted for the CoS becausethey are actually wearing robes. The only reason that the students wear the ties is to put there house colors in the uniform, ex: Slytherin wears Green and Silver and Griffendor wears Red and Gold.

In the PoA, the director made them more relaxed and well they just looked like muggles at a castle. Harry wore a hoddy to Hogmead and Hermione wore that pink jacket and jeans for a good part of the movie.

The books make it sound like they are always wearing cloaks, ex: Invisibility cloak and dress cloak. It adds to the movies if they are dressed like wizards not muggles.
juans90
i think that between the ST, CoS and PoA, PoA fits the best but how can we tall how the uniforms are in GoF is people have only seen the trailers?
Padfoot313
I chose Chamber of secrets because PoA was too muggle-like and it gets even frumpier in Gof. I think the CoS is the most consevative look and that is what I imagined when I was readiong the books.
ariana
I love the one for POA .. but i have to admit that in Gof the uniforms look better . Ok , may be it is a more muggle vision ... but i'm not a witch wink.gif
TheatreNerd0048
oooh i tied the vote ! {10 for CoS, 10 for PoA}

i said Prisoner of Azkaban because i really liked how they wore regular clothes most of the time {out of school hours}.
Now don't get me wrong ! the robes are freaking awseome, but i think the students look more like teenagers when they're dressed more casual.
jrtpuplvr
None were really as I had pictured in the books. Toooo many muggle clothes involved. I do, however, think that GoF will be better than PoA.
NickHilton
I think that the first three tended not even to wear their cloaks to lessons sometimes, i hope that in the fourth film there will be more cloak wearing and more obvious depiction of different houses within the uniform.
Hallia
I'm with jrtpuplvr here. None were as I had expected. I wanted to see robes and cloaks, and none of those are really used that much. Too muchmuggle clothing for me too.
tuni
i like the most,is from Prisoner of Azkaban. The uniforms in that film was looking very nice.Especially at that scene when students first seen Buck-Beak.
Misto
I prefer the formal look. After all this is a very traditional boarding school so this is what I would imagine it to be like. I also don't understand why the kids wear muggle dresses to Hogsmeade village. This is the wizarding world I mean. And secondly what are school robes good for if you don't display them in public?
miridian
Ooher cool topic! i never really thought about this but come to think of it it is pretty inncorrect the whole students wear regular muggle clothes on weekends and to hogesmade....wouldnt they have like...informal robes? not jeans and stuff? oh no i remember that's right when the 3rd movie was due to release alot of peeps were upset about the lack of wizard clothing yeahhhh anyways i voted for PoA just becaus that is sorta how i pictured it in my head it seems the most natural but not the most correct.
priori_incantatem
I liked the PoA look. I noticed it went like this: during classtime and during school students wear their uniform and cloak. During weekends and when dinner is over, students wear what they want to wear. I always wondered, even when I was younger: When do they buy their muggle clothes? It's extremely unrealistic.
Kolby Potter
I would have to say in my opinion that the most Hogwarts looking Uniform would have to be... SS/PS. Because it looks a little more wizardry. A Cloke. No 'Muggle Clothes' or anything. It si the Same in CoS too!
pauk
None for me too. I was quite shocked to see them in usual muggle clothes going for Hogsmead. I could never picture that in my mind. I've got an impression that most of the wizards get their clothes sewn for them or perhaps make some self, and, mind it, there's no mugglewear shop in the Alley. For Hermione it could be possible to have such non-wizard clothing, but what about the ones, raving about the pure blood? How could you fit them in muggle-teenage-attire? I suppose this twist in the movies towards the more viewer-friendly (!) solution is best reflected in an example of Jason Isaacs. They wanted him to appear in a pinstriped suit, looking like an all-muggle-bussinesman. Luckily Isaacs said 'no way' and here we have a true wizard. I hope that they did not intend to save some money by having the actors meet in their own clothes mellow.gif

I love what each individual director has done to each film, but I wish they wouldnt keep changing! Each year they change their kind of wardrobe, but I thought that Goblet of Fire was the best to what I thought the Harry Potter look is and was.
laudine
I thought it was a great development from the first movie (the children all clean and tidy) to the fourth (the teenagers all ... well 'informal'), that's why I voted for GoF because there especially the boys wear their uniforms like they would do it in real life. That hats in PS were really annoying, I really hated those hats. And the guy playing Percy looked just plain silly in that.

However, the idea of Tim Burton directing one would be quite interesting.
*pretty in punk*
I would expect it to be a formal type of uniform at Hogwarts. I also think that the students wouldn't so up tight with their clothes once the school day is over. They would probaly loosen their ties or take it off and probaly unbutton some buttons.
licoricewand
Although the GOF uniforms are very unlike a witch and wizardry school, I have to say I found I liked them the best. They made them look more sophisiticated and black makes Dan's hair look really good as well. So, that's what I voted. I hope the uniform doesn't change too drastically for the OOTP.
Chacho
I like the Goblet of Fire robes they are dressy and at the same time very dynamic looking. So is like you are comfortable and at the same time look nice.
Harry_Ginny777
i think the fourth movie uniforms were the best because of the Robes, Cloaks, Ties, Dress Robes were awesome. so the fourth ones were the best ones yet.
HP number one Fan
The uniforms were far too scruffy in the latest movie. I don't think McGonagall would have stood for it. In my school if our uniforms were all as terrible as that(some of them are but they are reported) then we would be in trouble. In the third movie it was just about spot on though Hermione was a bit scruffy at times. They only really had their top buttons undone at times which was realistic.
Die Zimtzicke
None of them because the uniforms are not canon. The aren't even in the books until Harry & Company leave Malfoy in the luggage rack in OotP. The robes are canon, but the uniforms are not. Columbus said he added them to give the films a boarding school feel. In the books the kids just pull their robes on over regular clothes. Look at the covers.
departed_soul
I thought POA really nailed the uniforms the best. It made it easier to distinguish students between different houses and you also saw more of a variation of the way students wore them -- much like kids do in real life. Some are more relaxed about their clothing, while others are not. Plus, they got to wear muggle clothing on the weekends, which seems more like the books.
Spadice
im not british so i dont know what britich uniforms are like. im from australia, and we have to wear school uniforms aswell. i think that the baggy, daggy wya that the characters wore the uniforms in gof is more like how actual students wear their uniforms. top buttons undone and tie nice and loose, especially in summer (where here it hits 45 degrees on a regular basis).
Harry Potter Fan
The uniforms didn't change too much over the movies. I don't really have a favorite. So I would say they do resemble what I thought they would look in the books.
Loopy_Luna
I can't say that I really think about the uniforms.

To me their cloak is their uniform, it doesn't matter what is underneth you cant see it anyway.

Another essential part of their uniforms when outside is their scarfs, and this just shows which house they are in by the colour of scarf they wear.

Doesn't detract from the film at all.
hp1
i liked the uniforms in the last 2 movies. i liked how it wasn't strictly the black robes...i liked how some had robes, some just had the white shirts w/ sleeves rolled up...and i liked how in their free time, they wore normal clothes, and they showed that more in the last two movies.
Amyrat151
The uniforms in Gof and PoA look the same to me, and I'll say I like them better than the first two movie's uniforms. I agree with departed_soul. I love that the characters aren't in their robes all the time, it reflects their characters much better that way. And in PoA espically, the kids were able to wear their uniforms the way they wanted. Like how Hermione weres the whole thing, tie, all button up, robe. Ron doesn't wear his robe and has the tie a bit looser. You're able to see who they are better.
taintedlove-xx
I think that their school uniforms in GOF were most like I imagined them to be . In PS and COS they looked basically the same , and in POA and GOF the looked very similar.
Moon(I luv you Luna)
None of the books actually say that they wear jumpers or ties or anything. I just always imagined them as the black robes done up with house coloured scarfs and gloves while muggle cloths are worn underneath.

But out of the ones i've seen in the movies, i'd say ilike the first GoF ones. They are typical brittish boarding school like. But i like how they wore them in PoA-in their own way. Like what HP1 said. happy.gif
romilda_girl
Wow...GoF is nice because all the guys have their top buttons undone wub.gif

Haha!
Miss_Dobby
I chose PS/SS. It was really original, and the most wizard-school-like, and as it was the first time ever that we saw Harry Potter, that image stuck with me. In CoS it was also good, almost the same, but in PoA it sidled away from the original look when the casual wear came in. They are in school, so they must wear a school uniform! Through out the entire HP series, JK mentions everybody in robes, most likely meaning they have their school clothes on. But now the directors are bringing in their own dress code which doesn't fit. I really don't mind them having casual clothes on, but they should only wear it on weekends and trips to Hogsmead and holidays. I don't like the sloppiness..

They looked like true wizards and witches in PS/SS! happy.gif
Die Zimtzicke
AGAIN there are no uniforms in the books, at least not until the one mention of Malfoy looking like a slug in one after Harry hexed him in book five. The books have no uniforms on the supply lists, and the kids are described as they pull the robes on over REGULAR clothes in the first four books. They are despicted in regular clothes on the US covers. I don't know about the British ones...I admit that.

But uniforms are not canon. Chris Columbus said he added them to give it more of a boarding school feel, and Jo said that was okay, but she didn't put them in the books except for that ONE mention in book five. Go check for yourselves.

I repeat...uniforms are not canon.
Snuffles4Eva
I don't really like it when they wear uniforms too much. I think they look most Hoagwartsish in their robes. But if I had to chose I guess I'd say the fourth, because that's the one where I remember them the most. Is it just me or do they wear them mroe than in other movies. Maybe it's just me.
62442al_Man
I am sure that all of us who read the books first would argue that the Uniforms were "nothing we would expect" of course. But I think that Goblet of Fire did an excellent job, and so did the first two movies as far as costume design and stuff. I voted for Goblet of Fire. The first two were good, but a little uptight and I don't see Harry like that, and certainly not Ron. Prisoner of Azkaban was far too loose, messy, preppy, and a complete change of what it was in the previous movie of Chamber of Secrets. I didn't like that too much. Goblet of Fire was sort of a mediator between the messy and unironed look to the straight, polished, clean look plus went in and out with "muggle clothing". I think they did a fantastic job.
tomflover94
I liked the uniforms in PoA the best because it was a little more relaxed then in the others, but the uniforms in GoF weren't that bad.
Aniiuum
well, i've read the whole books, and the students didn't wear jeans and shirts.. that kind of clothing is for muggles, right? Ron and the Weasleys used cloaks and magic stuff, and when they tried to look like muggles, they dressed up kind of ridiculous! don't you think? but I liked the uniforms in GoF though, and i totally love the uniform at the dragon challenge.. heart.gif

i really like the uniforms in PoA.. they seem more fashionabel. i dunno they just really tickled my fancy. I dont like how the newer directors stopped the students wearing thier cloacks as often as they did in the book, kind of upsetting. but yea.. the PoA uniforms kicks booty. happy.gif
crystaltaylor2
i mean everyone has there own vision.. but personnly i like chamber of secrets uniforms
