Full Version: Unity Between The Houses

I've read some theories about the Sorting Hat's song in OotP, which mainly seem to suggest that the house system and Hogwarts will be abandoned so that everyone will get along better. But I don't think that's why the Sorting Hat's song was included in the book.

I think that the song was maybe foreshadowing a change in Harry's circle of friends which has changed from being only Gryffindors in books 1-4 to including Luna the Ravenclaw and possibly Ernie Macmillan, Hannah Abbott and Justin Finch-Fletchley, the Hufflepuffs (who defended Harry against Malfoy at the train at the end, so I think you could call them friends now).

Well, that's a step in the right direction with this unity, but I think in HPB Harry might actually make a Slytherin acquaintance which he doesn't have to fight the urge to slap. I'm not suggesting he'll suddenly become best friends with Malfoy, but maybe with another Slytherin fifth-year who, despite having the Slytherin traits of ambition, etc, isn't so horrible as Malfoy and his gang.

I was thinking that maybe Harry might get to know Blaise Zabini better (and not hate him) since we know he is a Slytherin and will play some role in HBP.

What does everyone else think?

I don't think so.....I think it might turn into a Gryffindor/Hufflepuff/Raveclaw alliance, but Slytherin? I highly doubt that. I mean, it contains 2 death eaters, and a Death eater's son.....I doubt there is anyone in Slytherin who can be trusted...look at their Quidditch matches, they try and kill their opponants....remember that bludger into Harry's back in OoTP?

I wonder why Dumbledore doesn't expell Crabbe and Goyle, I mean he know knows that they are Death eaters.....

I think Blaise is the Slytherin that Harry may not see as an enemy.
As you said, he has made bonds during recent years with classmates from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Both have done good and bad things to him. Slytherin students (and Head) has maintained a negative attitude for the past five years. Maybe Blaise Zabini will be positive-in a Slytherin way-towards the trio.
Dumbledore does not expel Crabbe, Goyle and any other child whose parents' are in the fold with Voldemort because they should not be discriminated by their fathers' transgressions.
Professor Binns, the spectral History of Magic teacher, told his second year students that the Founders had a rift based on Salazar Slytherin's distrust of magic children with mundane lineage. Slytherin had a fight with his friend, Godric. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw sided with Gryffindor. As a result, Slytherin left Hogwarts castle and his chosen students. This rift continues today and will cease when Slytherins make an accord most likely from the conclusion of the war. Meaning Voldemort, Slytherin's remaining Heir, must be vanguished.

I thought that Crabbe and Goyle themselves were Death Eaters, am I wrong?

It's not them, it's their parents, but since Draco and everyone call them by their last name there can be a bit of a confusion.

I think by the end of series they all might be friends but not rite now anyway tongue.gif

I'm doing a last minute resurrection of this thread because I think it has become more relevant since the picture of the ring emerged.

I think the uniting/deviding of the houses at Hogwarts will come to the forefront in either HBP or book 7.

Anything you may want to comment on?

I'll start with the idea that I think the house of Slytherin will become devided. unsure.gif

It might depend on how divided it becomes. If only 10 or 15 students decide that they're on the light side, that'll probably result in the rest of the Slytherins ignoring them, making fun of them..ect.
I'd love to see Draco become one of those.. Anyway, I agree, that Slytherin will be divided, but only by a small portion.

Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw are already sort of in a unity..of course, not everyone in those houses like it, but it's a start. In Quidditch matches, when Gryffindor is against Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw cheer for Gryffindor, and it's a great cheer, but, from the Slytherin side, it's said that an equally great cheer came from them. I thought this as, if the other three houses really unite, Slytherin will still have an effect on them to divide and become their own sort of 'force'.
Hm..I'm trying to think what this reminds me of..

When I read about a Slytherin becoming Harry's friend, I thought of Blaise too, but only because we don't know how he acts around Harry..
The ring..I'm starting to hate it right now.. heh.

I think you might be on to something with Blaise but I doubt that there will be a Slytherin in the alliance.

I think that unity between the houses will need to start with Snape and the trio before the Griffindors come around. Snape will also need to put on an act of strict fairness and start dishing out points to his on House. If this doesn't happen there will not be a basis for respect with the other students. biggrin.gif

The Slytherin in Harry's year have been given too much rein. They need to be brought in some, but it needs to be done internally so there is not a lot of resentment with that House.

Draco and Malfoy are two very visible students at Hogwarts for differnt reasons. I think a truce between these two and there closer friends could go a long way in bringing order in the two houses.
