As Mr.Olvander said in the first of the Harry potter books "You will not get the same results with anther wizards wand." In OTP Neville reveals to us that the wand he has been using was his dads old wand. We know that not all that meets the eye applys to all of JKRowling works, and the same implys here. Neville was described as being the second to master a curse, so does that mean that when he get a new wand he will be more powerful? Was Voldermort wrong when he chose Harry, and that maybe Neville is the real threat(most likly not, but...)? Neville has alot to show for in the next books...

That is a good idea
I have been hoping since I read the fifth book that Neville was the person Voldemort had to kill and that evedence backs this up. That would be funny if Neville lost his wand or something, went and got a new one and because the best wizard ever. It would add a good twist to the story.

Hickory, ten and three-quarter inches, quite rigid...dragon heartstring? I agree with you, I think it makes quite a bit of difference that Neville will have his own wand, though how much is arguable. He has already proven to be quite abysmal at all subjects involving a wand (though his improvement in DADA was remarkable), but still, if Hermione can do good magic with someone else's wand...besides, Ollivander said that you won't acheive optimal results with another wand; that doesn't mean that using another wand makes you a terrible wizard. Maybe Neville is just a shoddy wizard, and we all have to accept that.

Hmm. I think that Neville's new wand will make it easier for him to do magic. He had his father's wand before but that wand was broken in the Department of Mysteries in OoTP. I think that it's different from wizard to wizard how difficult it is to preform magic with a different wand. So in Neville's case it's a bit more difficult for him than it would be for Hermione.
What is the core of Neville's new wand. Do we know or will he get a new one in HBP?

Nevilles new wand would make him a lot better in doing magic. He is really dedicated in his practices in the DA. I think he will want to use the full extent of the power of his new wand on Bellatrix.

This is such a good point being raised about Neville. I remember reading OotP and wondering this, but lost it over all the other much more important things going on. The idea that Neville just hasn't seen his full potential yet is exciting. Imagine his confidence if he were able to do better in school when he gets a wand that is really for him. Even if he is not the one Voldy should have gone after, I don't think so either, he can still be so much stronger and useful. He has a lot of bottled up rage and a new wand and new confidence could make him quite the oponent.

I think he will get his new wand and eventually become a greater sorcerer than even Dumbledore, and second only to Harry. But I don't think he will be the one that has to defeat Voldemort

Wands are an extremely interesting subject. Many of the people who have died thus far have had unicorn in their wands. Many speculate that Ron may die as his new wand contains unicorn as well. What is inside Neville's wand should very much be looked at as a potential clue to his future (much like everything in the books non?)

It would definitely be a difference. The wand does choose the wizard and if a powerful wand chose Neville, Neville would kick butt.

Neville is a worthless kid.
He can't do ****** even if his life depended on it. It does matter what is wand is give him a wand made my God, and he wouldn'd be able to do anything with it.

I agree with the general consensous. I think it was very deliberate of Jk to have his old one broken. And now that Neville finally has a reason to get a wand that chooses him, I am sure he will grow in power and confidence.
Go Nev!!

i completely forgot about neville having to get a new wand and stuff at the end of OotP just because at the end of the book there was so much other stuff to think about. rowling does have a tendency to slip things in there, and then make them huge later on, so i think neville's wand will end up being something big. i also agree with whoever said that neville will want to use the full extent of his new wand on bellatrix.. is there any chance that neville will go dark? and help voldy fight harry in the end? naw..

too far-fetched..
either way, i hope neville kicks butt in hbp!

Neville will be more powerful with his new wand, because, since his old wand was his dad's, that means that it wasn't made for him[Neville].. So this new one was probably made for him.
Since Harry and Neville are growing up into great (maybe..) wizards, and they most likely want revenge on Bellatrix, I fear for her.. Nah..Neville won't go dark because of what happened to his parents.. (who knows with J.K.. ).

All of this talk about Neville's new wand is very interesting, but I think one important fact is being overlooked. Why did he have to use his father's wand in the first place? If anything, I'd have to say it was because the Longbottom family is living on meager means, and a new wand would cost a fair bit of Galleons. If Neville does get a wand of his own, I wonder how he'll be able to afford it.

Maybe the reason he was useing his father's wand was not because he couldn't afford a new one but because he was doing it to kind of honor his father, or mayve he just wanted to use his father's wand.

Well all we hear his gramma talk about is how much better his parents were at magic than he. The whole family may hold this notion and their high expectations of Neville as a child might have provoked them to give him his father's wand in the hopes that he would become as reat and renowned as his father. This could also explain Neville's self confidence problem.
Just a theory.

I believe true strenght comes from the inside. If a man does have what it takes, it doesn't matter what wand he has. Unlike the real world where the US military.... the magical world would requires self strenght.
His new wand may make him better, but if he doesn't have it in him? There is nothing more.
Sorry for the first post.

I agree with Mizzersmid, strength and power comes from innner qualities. Furthermore, I believe Neville Longbottom has strength in character to master his magical abilities once a wand chooses him. I also think he may become more powerful in defensive/restorative magic than his parents did.

actually i think neville couldnt spare the money to buy another wand in the begginning and since his father became mental it would be more money efficient to take his wand. But now that Neville had his wand broken he would definitely need a new one for school and maybe we will begin to see nevilles true abilities.
