You guys are crazy! tongue.gif But I'm sure I'll be just as crazy when Deathly Hollows comes out.

Sometimes I read my hp books by the light off the hall. My parents tell me to go to bed and they can see if the light is on from the den so I can't sneak it. mad.gif I read it at breakfast too and my dad's like eat your ceral. Hurry up. He even threatened to take the book away. He did, but I got it back later! Luckaly! sleep.gif
Padfoot, Prongs and Moony
Wow, this is the only topic that I have read all the pages. Anways...

Now I was six or seven years old, I was absolutly obsessed about Harry Potter I made a list, I had all the movie that were out (only 2 were out) and all the books that were out (up to GoF) I mark down everytime I read or watched one of the Harry Potter series. I had close to a million for movie 1 and 2, I had almost 6 or 7 marks for every book. That isn't exactly crazy but it is random. I got beyond obssesed, to a point where I think my dad and my mom started to think I was crazy (even though my mom still thinks I'm crazy without mentioning Harry Potter).

Not crazy and not how I started to like Harry Potter just something that happened....

I was about 4 or 5 and my mom had the first Harry Potter book and we were laying in her bed (my parents were seperated but they didn't sleep in the same room almost my whole life) so we were laying there and she is reading some part in the first book, I think the beginning, and I start crying and yelling telling her to stop because I was too scared. I look back and think "there is nothing scary in the beginning of this book at all..." When I think back now, I think I somehow I knew my life would be a bit like Harry's... and I was partially right...

Like I said, nothing absolutly crazy... but I'm sure I won't eat, sleep, talk (which is normal) for at least a day when I get the Deathly Hallows book... wub.gif
hpgeek
i have read each book at least 8 times each, my msn name is a countdown to the OotP movie and DH book, i constantly draw lightning bolts on myself (yes even sometimes on my forehead), i have like fifty pages of harry potter doodles, in the process of making a harry potter puppets video, can answer almost any question about the books without looking it up first, was disppointed when i didnt recieve my hogwarts letter tongue.gif , spent a few hours reading all the articles on www.beyondhogwarts.com, and taken many quizzes. oh, and i am known as the hpgeek to like everyone. biggrin.gif
love_angel_music_baby
Well, my friend's mom think Harry Potter is against their religon and so whenever we are around her we just start talking about it and ask her a bunch of questions about it and what is "snogging" (for jokes) and it's so funny! Otherwise I usually stay up late to read them, not that much sad.gif
hedwig_321
I've banged my cousin with Harry Potter and the HalfBlood Prince on the head because she said that Sirius won't come back!!!I also cried on my book when DD died.*sob*
But I danced with my book when Harry and Ginny got together!!!
X-Girl
Okay I just remembered another thing I did. When I was littler we had to go to my cousin's graduation is Georgia or something. I was in the middle GoF for the first time. Well I took it with and lugged it around two airports who knows how many other books were also in my back pack. Luckily my mom carried it part of the way but vividly remember running through an airport with it. laugh.gif
I used to hde in my bed with the little light on and read too! biggrin.gif
xForeverxLoyalxToxDumbledorex
for deathly hallows i queued in the pouring down rain for an hour to get my book
for half blood prince i went at midnight
and the rest i went first thing in the morning
ive even walked round at my school at break and dinner times readin my book to finish it and anoying people with facts and goings on as they happen:)
madie
I have a different story for each of the books but the most crazy is about the DH.
I went on a summer holiday this year to Greece and the problem was that we left exactly the same night when DH was out sad.gif sad.gif
We stayied in Paralia Katerini but there were no libraries there OMG!!!! and I just couldn`t wait no more so I went on a trip to Athens to get the book (my mom still thinks I went there just to see the acropoles laugh.gif and other history stuff..yeah sure wub.gif )
Imagine I almost got lost...it was only me and one of the teachers who came to Athens. It was so late...we were supposed to leave with the rest of the group in a couple of minutes when I saw my dear beloved book in a store ohmy.gif so I actually ran into it-3 floors up (I don`t even want to imagine what people thought). I grabbed the first one I saw and the girl actually counted 24 cents to give me back...like I had time for that!!!(wich was so so so obviously)and she also took her sweet sweet time to pack an offer in their language (wich I understand NOT)...nice girl
I don`t know how Athens looks like `cause I only saw the seven Potters, Hedwig and so on.
I had to sleep in the same room with the teachers and I had to go outside to read. I can tell u that, until 6 in the morning I had almost no light to see what I was reading (I`m so dumb...I just realised I could have gone to the bathroom and read with the light on laugh.gif ).
Well...I finished it by day on the beach! I can`t imagine a better landscape to end Harry Potter rolleyes.gif

I made my brother (who is 20 years old now) get in line with all the kids who were dressed up the day of the release so that he could get it in time for my birthday (August 9th). This happened for both HBP and DH, and then, when he had it all wrapped and ready, I begged him to give it to me earlier because everyone was reading it and they were going to spoil all the fun for me.
Then I took the book everywhere with me, even to college, and read it in the breaks...
SeverusBlack
Wake up very early during days off just to satisfy my cravings of reading the Deathly hallows.
Half_Blood_Princess
I did so many crazy things just to read the HBP, but I'll tell just what happened with the DH... wink.gif
Just because my mother told me every day to do something else except reading Harry Potter, I always was very curious what was going to happen next! So what I did was, every night at 3:30 a.m. I woke up and read allmost 3 chapters every night (because in the day I hardly read 1).
That had to be SO crazy, because in the day I was so sleepy, and my parents tought that was ill! laugh.gif
No.1_HarryPotterFan
Ha ha ha... don't even get me started! There's SO many... but I'll tell one. It was for DH.

I got it in the mail the day it came out (not at midnight-argh!) so I was waiting on the porch from 8 in the morning to noon. (Don't worry, I read the rest of my HBP book in that time!) So when I got it, I ran to my room, shut and locked the door, and began reading it. I didn't stop until 3 in the afternoon, when my dad told me to take a break (silly muggle). So I ate dinner (actually, inhaled it) and went back to read more. Then I read until 9 at night, when my dad told me it was time for bed. So I went to my room and pretended to go to sleep, fuming. Then my mother told me that I had until midnight, then I had to go to sleep. I agreed. Then, at 10, my dad told me to take another break, pleading that "I would be sorry if I finished it too soon" (as if). Then I took a five minute break to practice my fouette turns and read nonstop until I finished it at 11:59. Then I went to bed, but at two in the morning reread the last 10 chapters! I was so tired the next day... but it was worth it.

Yeah, not so crazy. Sorry.
talie
you guys make me laugh so much. This is really long. the whole story

I preordered Deathly Hallows and was going to get it in the mail. Since the only book i had to really wait for to come out was DH, i had no clue what it was like to actually count down the days til you get it. So yeah, the days go by then my mom says that i'd get the book several days (more like a week) after the release because the place where we were ordering it from had to wait until they got their copies. Now, I had a feeling that would happen, but it never quite sunk in until three days before it was released. I just couldn't wait any longer. I've been bawling my eyes out just laying in my room by my lonesome on the bed. I was so depressed! I tried getting my parents to go to the store and buy it when it came out but they're just like "NO". It changed me so much. A week before it came out, I was imagining how happy I'd be when i had it in my hands the day it came out, but what was i doing instead? Crying my eyes out.

It was the night of the 20th at around 8 o clock and i was on VTM looking at the news. I tried the best i could not to click on the link with JK reading the first chapter of DH, but i clicked it anyway. I got to 2 minutes and stopped watching because i didn't want to spoil anymore, but minutes later i clicked it again and watched the whole thing.

I was jumping around my room when it finished playing just thinking of what happened in that single chapter. It was almost like a party for me. I was that crazy.

But sadly, around 45 minutes later i was back to my depressed state because, well, the news hit home again. Next day i'm crying again and my mom comes in with the book. Before she actually gave it to me, we had a talk and it made me feel not so good, so when she showed me the book, i wasn't happy at all. I started reading the book an hour later and my mood lifted. I was in my room reading and got a couple visits from my brother (the one who doesn't read the books) asking me how the book is so far every three hours.
Potions Mistress
Oh my, some of the stories are just amazing! I am so sorry for all of you whose relatives in one way or another forbade you to read the books. That must have been horrible! At the same time, I'm really astonished by the things you performed to be able to read anyway. It’s also touching to read how people read the books to their siblings.

Well, I couldn't stop laughing at 7th horcrux- not harry's story: smile.gif
QUOTE
i carried it everywhere. Then on Tuesday I was rereading OotP during my spare time and a girl took it from me and ran with it. I got up and we were screaming and shrieking and i was trying to get the book. then out of nowhere, without even thinking, i screamed at the top of my lungs (with my wand held up to her face) STUPIFY!

My story is not crazy, but it might seems so, particularly to the people who read the books in one sitting. Like talie, I got to the series quite late, and basically all the first six books had been already out when I started reading Harry Potter. So I enjoyed the waiting and countdowns only with the Deathly Hallows and thus I also meant to enjoy the book itself as much as possible. I approached the book the other way round than most of the people here and did whatever I could to make it last for as long as possible (I didn't go to such harsh measures with the previous ones, but then they weren't the last one). I would say that for me, reading the Deathly Hallows became an exercise in self-discipline. I assigned myself a limit of only 100 pages a day which, of course, I constantly kept exceeding. So I came up with the list of things which needed to be done around the household and I allowed myself to read only after I'd finished the assigned tasks. It was the only way to keep myself from reading the book in just one sitting. Maybe not that crazy but certainly harsh. smile.gif Eventually, the book really lasted the whole six days and I must say that these were my best six days in the last several years.

One of the assigned tasks for which reading was a reward was packing things for moving flat. My self-discipline somehow gave way and while pretending to be frantically packing boxes, in reality I was sitting among them swallowing every word of the book.

Yeah, and one evening after shower, to the utter astonishment of my boyfriend, I was walking round the flat wrapped only in a towel, with a toothbrush in one of my hands, the book in the other, avidly reading. Not crazy but not completely usual either. smile.gif

I never did anything really crazy but i did bug my mom for almost three weeks until she finnaly gave in and got the book for me biggrin.gif she is one of those the book is about witchcratft and that deals with the devil blah blah blah but that will not matter if you are a true harry potter fan cool.gif cool.gif

SeverusBlack
Good darkempress.
Maybe you can tell your mom about the Deathly Hallows. The biblical verses contained in it. And that JKR proves to be a Christian after all. Encourage her to read it.
cloe101
I didn't do anything really crazy but when the 6th book came out I waited at the store to buy it and I read it in like six hours because I couldn't put it down. I stayed up with the moon that night for Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince. tongue.gif
DougBlack

I learned english just to read the books, a really hard and useful madness.
To read DH from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. too is a bit strange, hauhau
I only stopped when I finished the book.
Mundu
Nothing so much with reading the books... I did graffiti my friends' diary with "omg only 5 days, 4 hours, 34 minutes left! I love Harry Potter!" to help welcome in DH. I don't think she was too pleased to be honest. I then hung up on that friend when she rang JUST to annoy me and make me stop reading for a while. I also threatened to smack my brother over the head with DH if he so much as took a step into my room while I was reading it. And I'm really not that violent a person. Ah well it was the 7th book tongue.gif
Oh, and I have read the entire series to my mother and brother.
lozza-cm
i used to read the books in class all the time and then they would kick me out and i would read them outside lol...one time when the 6th book came out i was sent to my year advisor and he said if a teacher sees me reading the book they will take it away i was so desperate to read it i asked to go to the toilet in every class and went and read it in the toilet then chucked a sicky till i finished it... it take it apon my self to educate people in the world of harry potter so i read to my boyfriends brother and my little brother because they said they want to know about it they just couldn't be bothered reading it...lazy!
Carrie_Potter
OK, well I didn't start reading it until the summer before 5th grade, because I insisted that I hated fantasy books. Which I did. So, then my brother paid me 20 bucks to read it. I read the fifth first. No idea why, I think it was because I like the title the most. Anyway, I then got hooked.

Now, that summer, I went to visit my grandparents in Virginia. I found out that my step-grandma HATED Harry Potter. Again, no idea why. So, I was in the middle of the sixth book and I was NOT going to stop because my silly step-grandma stop me from reading JUST because SHE hated it.

My grandparents have a really big backyard, so I would put the Harry Potter book safley in my blanket, in my backpack, and sling my camera around my neck, and I would say I was going out to take pictures. In reality, I would sit in a clump of bushes, on my blanket, and read. A chapter a day. On the walk back to the house, I would take pictures of the nature, which is what I said I did the whole time. I'm fairly sure she never suspected a thing.

My parents think HP is evil. I totally disagree of course. But they won't let me read the books and stuff like that. But since I'm read the first book before they thought it was evil, I was addicted already. That's why I always read the books in secret. I've spend hours and hours locking myself up in the bathroom where I sat on the edge of the tube and read the books, which I got from the library. The movies had to be seen in secret, just everything. But every year I loved the books more and more, so about 4 months ago, I decided I really wanted to buy the books. I already bought the DVD's, but they are much earsier to hide than books. But I ordered the books and waited at the door for almost a week, so I would be the one who opened the door when the books arived and avoid nasty questions. Fortunately I succeeded and now I'm the proud owner of 6 HP books and I'm waiting for the delivery of the last one. I can't wait! I still read the books secretly, but no longer in the bathroom. I do it in my room and make sure my parents can't see the covers tongue.gif
So I haven't only done crazy things to read the books, I'm still doing them wink.gif
Seriouslysirius
Well i haven't done anything crazy as such to read a Harry Potter book. But i quess my parents... well mainly my Dad thoguht i was crazy to get the Deathly Hallows at midnight. But i think it's perfectly sane. laugh.gif And reading to 2:30 in the morning is vergeing on normal. laugh.gif Otherwise i can't think of a time i'd done anything crazy to get the books or read them at any point. biggrin.gif
Forbidden Riot
I read the HP books in some messed up order....I read my schools copy of the philosophers stone. Then my mother bought me GOF, so I read that. Then I read POA...then chamber of secrets laugh.gif ..but ive read the last 3 in the right order. Since then, ive read the whole series multiple times in the right order. happy.gif
Belladawna
Well, when I start reading, I get totally absorbed in the book and tune everything else out. My hubby doesn't always believe that I'm not intentionally ignoring him when I read. So, to avoid conflict, I've gone down to our building's gym under the pretense of "working out," but really I'm camped out in the changeroom reading LOL I've also "gone for a walk" in the park, but really, was reading on a park bench smile.gif That's as crazy as I've gotten though.
Hedwig476
The craziest thing that comes to mind for me is when DH came out and I was completely hooked on it until I was finished. Sunday night I was a quarter of the way through the book and I couldn't stop reading. I ate dinner at around 6, had some water, and then locked myself in my room until 1:30 in the morning reading. I had to wake up at 9 the next morning to go to my violing lesson, and of course, I brought my book with me (that thing literally went with me everywhere for those 3 days). I had a small bowl of cereal and nothing to drink with my breakfast because I overslept and didn't have much time to eat. About halfway through my lesson I started feeling really strange and so I sat down. Then my violin teacher started freaking out because she said I didn't look so well and I needed to lie down. So on my way to her couch I fainted (and I had no clue what was going on cause I've never passed out before).

That made her panic even more and even though I woke up within seconds she insisted on calling 911. As I was waiting for the paramedics to get there I pulled out DH and started reading on her couch. Once the ambulance guys got to the door I set my book down cause they were going to want to ask me questions. As soon as the paramedics came in the one guy spotted the book sitting on the table and said "How late were you up last night reading that, and did you take a break to eat or get a drink?" I just started cracking up because even the ambulance guy knew how addictive Harry Potter is smile.gif .
Ginny.Weasley
Ok well the craziest thing I've ever done was this summer when DH came out, and it turned out that I was on a family vacation out east for the first time. I went to the New Brunswick Chapters to get it and I read it in the car as we went places. Whenever we stopped somewhere, I'd stop reading but as soon as we got back in the car I'd start reading again.
Now I know that's not as crazy as others but I could tell you that to be reading while we're in someplace new for the first time is pretty odd, and now I sometimes wish I hadn't.

Another thing, was a couple years ago I went to the hospital because I got a broken wrist and I brought an HP book to read, but seeing as I couldn't move my one wrist, my mom had to hold the book so I could read it.

Those are the craziest things I've ever done. It's cool to read what other people have done, and I must say I'm pretty impressed at what people will do. smile.gif

biggrin.gif This is a funny thread! I'm obseesed with Harry Potter... ask any of my friends... laugh.gif But, I've never done anything odd or crazy for any of the books I almost went to a midnight screening of OotP, but got sick... gosh what a dissapointment OotP was... Oh well, we can't change everything mellow.gif
JBock
i have nothing really to say for reading the books really, ive read some but not all, i listen to the audio..

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
cristipotter
Well, it's not exactly crazy, but when I was reading DH all my friends were telling me 'oh, c'mon let's go do this...do that' but I stayed all day home reading...then two of my friends told me they were bored and if they could come to my house, so I said 'yes, but I'm reading HP7!'..I think they missed the 'reading HP7' part because they got mad at me because all I did was read...

People just don't understand what being a HP fan means, specially when the last book comes out dry.gif

lol happy.gif

I remember that while I was supposed to be working on homework in the library, I took a Harry Potter book from the shelf instead, just so I could finish it up. I had so much homework that night... And when DH came out, I begged my dad to take me out at midnight to get it. I really wanted to read it, and most stores had sold out. My dad almost took me home, but as a last resort, I cried, and he got really sorry for me. He took me to the last bookstore he could think of. And, even though I could have waited another eight hours to get into a store and buy it on sale, I insisted on paying the full thirty five bucks just so I could get it that night. I know... I'm desperate.

This is a weaker story in terms of craziness, but it's true, and I don't regret it.

When book 7 came out, I spent my entire day with my nose in the book. I didn't do my chores. Heck, I barely ate. But after 10 hours with the longest interuption being 20 minutes, I was done, and in trouble for not doing my chores. But it was worth it. happy.gif

When DH came out my friend and I (my friend being obsessed like me) were stuck at cheerleading camp a pretty long distance from home. So at midnight she called her mom and had her mom go get the book for her and I called my parents in the morning and made them bring it up to the camp for me! :] Not a really obsessed and crazy story, but I made them bring the book up and I read it for the next week taking my time and snapping at anybody who interrupted me. :] It was totally worth it, though.
Nymphadora Lupin
When HBP came out I skived off school for the day so I could read it all in a day - and my mam actually believed me when i said I was ill ... parents can be thick sometimes. They completely underestimate the power Harry Potter has on teenage souls (And some adult ones too tongue.gif )

And when DH came out, my dad had gone out that night with his mates and he was supposed to get a copy of DH for me on his way back, but he forgot so I made my mam take me out to Asda at about 1am ... I was surprised she actually said yes!!

I got into HP wwhen i was six and the day before christmas, the whole family went to my nans. The grandkids were allowed to open their stockings, and my nan had bought me loads of Harry Potter stuff, including book 1, and a bouncy golden snitch. I refused to talk to anyone all day because I was reading my book, and my little cousin got really angry because i wouldn't play with him. eventually, he got so frustrated, he threw the bouncy snitch at my head, and tried to rip my book in half!! mad.gif

justin
when i was reading book five the day it came out my little brother annoyed me and and ended up throwing my book at him and it ruined the binding
i've been sad about that for a while because its such a pain to go back and read the book now that it is ruined.
but after i threw the book at him i ended up punching him and getting into a fight and my mom got mad at me and blamed it on Harry Potter
Ginevra Molly Weasley
Justin!! How could you do something as horrible as throwing a Harry Potter book at your brother? You hurt the book! Shame! Shame! Shame! I have to refill my shame pot... Shame! Shame!

Well, anyways, I needed a new copy of Harry Potter two really badly, because I have a hardcover edition, and the spine has broken, and a page or two had fallen out, and it was being held together by duct tape. At the same time, my PS had the same problem as well, and it was paperback... Well, I begged, and begged, and begged, and begged my dad for a new copy of each of those books. I eventually got him to break when we found a good copy of PS at a Greek Festival... And "Santa" gave me CoS for christmas... I've been much happier...

I was desperate!
forsaken_wolfess
Well, I on several occasions have hid a paperback of the Half-blood Prince and The Order of the Phoenix inside my social studies book while we were reading the constitution. I have also hidden in a closet with a flashlight and the latest book to make sure I'm not interupted by a family member who wants to read it.
E.Austen
When we first got our copy of Order of the Phoenix, it took forever to finish, because my sister and I kept stealing it from each other in the middle of the night. She'd read a few chapters and then she'd go to bed, then I'd sneak into her room and grab it, and read my few chapters. When I wake up the next day, it's gone. It was like a basketball game, stealing the ball from each other all the time, and thus not getting anywhere.
forsaken_wolfess
Well, I haven't done this, but one of my friends goes to a school that banned HP. So she could read one of the books, she tapped a fake (but very well-drawn) cover saying 'the Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.' Thank the lord that wasn't my school!
emma_weasley
Well, when the 7th book came out, I made a t-shirt and I wore it that day. It had a bunch of theories on it and was pretty cool. My parents wouldn't let me go at midnight so my neighbor got it for me and dropped it in our mailbox. I woke up really earlier and crept outside to get it and I think that I woke up my family. That day I had a dancce competition so I read it on the way there, in between dances, and on the way home. At home I just sat on the couch and read. My friend even called me and asked me to come over, but I didn't go because I wanted to read DH. I barely ate anything while I was reading it because I was too nervous about what was going to happen. That's not a very crazy story, but my friends thought that I was weird.

Another thing that I did was write down all of predictions, put them in an envelope, and tape them to my calendar with a note saying "Do not open until I've read Deathly Hallows". I actually read DH twice before I opened them just to make sure that I didn't miss anything.

ChannelingGinny
DH came out on my wedding anniversary, plus I had a headache and wasn't feeling too well, but I really wanted to read the book, so I managed not to do anything but read all day/night. (we did go out the following weekend! smile.gif ) I finished the book on that Sunday. I took it out to the pool and refused to move until I was DONE. Unfortunately, that meant I didn't pay attention to the position of the sun and ended up with a wicked sun burn!

I read all 7 books 3 times this past year (read each series through, waited a few weeks and started again... and again).
belle_kd1413
Crazy?
maybe just the ordinary HP crazy type stuff.
I would sometimes never come out of my room and read it and when i would sleep i would place it near my bed ( you know, the place where i could just pick it up [without] standing) and read again first thing in the morning. and then repeat.
or sometimes when my mom would turn the lights off i would still read. up to the wee hours.
i have HP books in my pc..so..yeah.
not really crazy.

hmmm, maybe wherever i would go to my HP books would be there.
i bring my paperbacks..so yeah.

When DH came out, I had to wait 2 days until I could get it because of the Post... When I did get it it was like 11 in the morning... I read until 3 in the morning, and then another 2 or so hours the next day....
I couldn't put it down.. ^^
In my English lessons, I would read OoTP and whenever my teacher would ask me vocabulary (I am english and go to a german school!) he would catch me reading the book and would threaten me with detention.. but I didn't care.. I NEEDED TO GET THAT BOOK FINISHED hehe.. okay, not exactly crazy.. but still... wink.gif

When DH came out, I waited outside bookstore at midnight and a bunch of us had a Harry Potter Pajama Party and waited in line until we could get the book. But besides that really I completely isolated myself from the world everytime a HP book came out. I shut off my phone in the middle of the summer stayed by the air conditioner, and read until I finished. I was reading GoF until 6 in the morning. But once I start, I can't stop. I also yell at people in my house when they interupt my reading because I get so into it.
