I was wondering.. Voldemort is 70 years old.. that is really old, is it?

(in the seoond book it is 50 years ago when the CoS was opened.. bij a 17 year old Voldemort/Tom Riddle.... that is 3/4 potteryears ago wink.gif )

A wizard gets older but how old can he get.. Voldemort isn't invulnerable to death.. or something..

Maybe they started again when he was reborn and now he is 1,5 year old tongue.gif

ps.. my search engine wouldn't work.. (just like my avatar-options) so if this is a double thing.. delete it.. dry.gif
Lulu
You know I don't think that he was reborn. It's only a word for it because he got his body back. It's a kind of metaphor (metfor?) It's a beginning of somehting new so they call it "When Voldemort was reborn".

I guess that since Voldemort experimented so much on the way to imortality he found a way to live really long. Dumbledore is really old, he was Tom Riddles transfiguration teacher. So Voldemort still have pretty much time left before he dies. (Or do he only have two years left tongue.gif ) Professor Dippet was the Headmaster at that time.

So Voldemort didn't get reborn, he just "took a break from his body" for 14 years. Then he got it back.

That's what I think,
any agreements- dissagreements?
Grinch
I dont think he got his body back. I think he made a new one with his dark magick.
zyra123
Now that's interesting... wink.gif

I'm sure by the term 'reborn' it meant he got his body back. But then what could he do with a 50-ish body anyway... wink.gif - which I think about the time he started making experiments towards immortality. He could though, maybe in his highly knowledgable of Dark Art produce some sort of remaking his body parts at the time when he's prime, like in his thirtees? Eitherway, Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort will be extremely dashing... wink.gif

I can't believe I'm having this conversation anyway... tongue.gif
Lulu
yeah, you're probably right about Voldemort getting a new body looking just like the one he had before he attacked the Potters. But he got his body back, it's nothing wrong in that sentence. He lost his body and recoverd it 14 years later. And besides he was ripped out of his body when the killing curse reversed, no one took care of his body, and there's no speaking of finding Voldemorts body in the ruins of the Potter-house. So I think i just vanished or it just got destroyed.
queenie
hi, well in GoF voldemort says he is immune to mortal death so that might be why he has lived so long. but as dumbledore says in OotP ''there are worse things than death'' so perhaps in the last two books something will happen to voldemort? wink.gif
RJ_Vanna_sen
Zyra.. this is a really interesting conversation biggrin.gif

I thnk that he made a new body.. actually his body died when he tried to kill Harry Potter.. so he had to made a new body.... maybe he tried to look like Ralph Fiennes..! tongue.gif

Does anybody know how old a wizard could get?

RJ
zyra123
No one knows but JKR herself!! tongue.gif (you could check this thread here to find out everything people said about their lifespan... wink.gif)

Lulu, I think by the time he attacked the Potters he had already gaining some sort of immortality within him and thus may not looked like any normal 50-ish people with flesh and blood. So, I think when the curse rebound, there's not so much... hmm... 'body' left to get destroyed in the ruins. I think flesh and blood are what's keeping human functioning as ... well, human. But it's the soul inside that's vital to keep on living. That's why he's sort of 'alive' when he's sucking unicorn's blood in SS/PS. (eww...)
Lulu
hm yeah Zyra. But when the curse reversed on Voldemort his spirit left his body and that what was left of his body was destroyed, how did the house explode? We know Hagrid found Harry in the ruins of the house.

So if Harry fails to kill Voldemort, Voldemort will live on and rule the Wizard world for ever?
(Shrugs)
FIRENZE
Hi, I was just wondering what would be Firenze's role in the coming books against Voldemort. He has brocken away from his herd and publicly joined up with Dumbledore. He is half-man, half horse....Any thoughts?

As you can imagine, I am rather fond of firenze...
Tom Marvolo Riddle
When I, Voldemort, came back to my body, I found myself not in my old body, but a new one exactly like it. I am indeed getting on in ages, but I am nowhere near death. You know my goal, to conquer death.

Hiya Firenze, welcome here! smile.gif

I'm sorry to say what you post is off-topic. This is a topic where you discuss the significance of Voldemort's age as opposed to his getting his body back in GoF.

You can find the more accurate discussion on Firenze, the centaur here instead.

I dearly hope you've read the forums rules already (the link is in my signature if you haven't), it'll get you up to speed with how to participate the forums without getting nagged by the mods... wink.gif

I think that Lulu is on to something, Voldermorts body was destroyed at the Potters but his mind and soul was still alive. The body can not live without the mind but the mind can still be alive even if it didn't have a body. Therefore I've come to the conclusion that he created a body and by creating it he is young and old at the same time. Voldermort is 70 years old and the new body he created is what appears to be in the earily 30's so he has a young body that he is able to be more agialle (sp).
Lulu
Yeah. That sounds likely, Secretkeeper. Voldemort's knowlage is 70 years old but his body seems to be much younger. But why a 30 years old body. How come you came up that conclusion that his new body is 30 years old?
Raiden2
I always wondered about LV's age, (I can't imagine a 60 years old man moving his hand like that to make a spell without cracking his back ^^ ) I think that he got the body he had when he went to kill the Potters so he's as old as he should be - 13 years I think.
JKR said that wizards live longer than muggles didn't she?
Lulu
Yes, She did. Wizards do live longer than muggles, and also, like Voldemort did, they can drink potions to make their living time longer, and as discussed above, we think that Voldemort has found the way to immortality, that is to say, he won't die by time. So he wonn't die after 100 year's if Harry don't kill him before that of coures.
Hermione_Resilda
Weird...Voldemort will never die if Harry doesn't kill him. Do you think that they will give this transformation to Harry and/or Dumbledore to have them alive to defeat Voldemort?
Lulu
hmm, I don't know Hermione_Resilda, Perhaps. But you know what I just figuerd. Voldemort doesn't have to die in the end.
He could get "The dementor kiss", then he would be no harm to no one. I think that is what Dumbledore ment in the end of OoTP when he wass dueling Voldemort in the Ministry of Magic.
I mean, I don't know if the dementors would ever give Voldemort the kiss because the dementors feed on every happy feeling, every happe memory, I don't know if Voldemort have these cind of feelings, and memorys. Of coures has he been happy but you know, he's happy when one of his dreadful plans works, and those planes aren't exactly for the best of wizards cind, see what I mean?

So what do you think of this?
Hermione_Resilda
Yeah, it's better to make him suffer than kill him and put him out of his misery.. I think that the only happy moments that he had were when he was at Hogwarts. He didn't seem as thought he wanted to kill, that is until he grew to about 15 years old..
But Harry would have to weaken Voldemort because the dementors are no on his side, and they wouldn't perform the 'Kiss' to him. Well, maybe they would. They hadly care about anyone but themselves and would be happy to take any soul..
Lulu
Yes. Harry would have to make him suffer...weaken.. make him think of something happy that happend in Voldemorts life. Make him think of the life before he made the desicion that he wanted to become the most powerful wizard ever, even if had to be evil. Perhaps the first time he got his Hogwartsletter or something...
As you said, The Dementors only care about them self, if they could suck Voldemorts soul out they certainly would do it.. that's for sure.

As Dumbledore said in the begining of PoA. "Dementors are visious creatures. They won't show difference between the one who stands in their way and the one they hunt".
Anyway it was almost like that, so if they feel to attack Voldemort they would do it.
But this is getting a little off-topic, don't you think? It's related to the topic but I think we're a little too flexible now. tongue.gif wink.gif

thegirlswholovelupin
Dumbledore is approximately a 156 years old. It said in the fourth book that one or more experiments of Voldemort worked. So he would be immortal.
secretkeeper
To answer Lulus question about the dementors. Dementors don't do that to everybody, they didn't do it to Fudge when he was ordering one to suck the soul out of Sirius.
Anyway back on topic, I think that DD did something with Fawkes and merged with it some way because at 156 years old and still able to move that fast and be that strong at that age is unbelieveable. Since DD is this age Voldermort found out that DD has lived a long time so he decided to use something for him to be immortal as said in the previous post. Immortality does have its draw backs because there is always a way to be destroyed that Voldermort himself can't get around so sooner or later he will have to face the inevitable.

But then what could he do with a 50-ish body anyway... wink.gif

Plenty. =p My daddy's a farmer, and he worked 775 days in a row in his late 40's, all of them ten-hour or so days. Just because most people are lazy, seditary *** who start going downhill in their 30's doesn't mean that's how it has it to be. =p

Proto
Voldemort body , is 1.5 years , his mind is 70 years. He was a spirit , he got a new body , with a new body comes new organs , and now , his body is magical , everything is new , so he restarts again in a new bod. 70 year old mind in a new body.
kermer
okay.. what proto just said makes sense.. besides the fact that if voldemort's body is only one of a one year old, he can't do a whole lot.. and we saw in OotP that his body was that of an adult.. i could be wrong and you might be saying that his body is new but he's advanced into the body of an adult.. i actually don't know what *i'm* saying! rolleyes.gif

as someone said, DD is around 156, and rowling said somewhere [i'm pretty sure on her site, but i'm racking my brain trying to remember where] the mcgonagall is like 80.. and she's still pretty active herself.
CleverCrookshanks13
Technically, i guess, Voldemort is 70 or so..... But he may live a lot longer, because didn't he put all kinds of charms on himself to try to keep from dying? Also, he did get a new, strong body, so he'll live until Harry kills him, probably biggrin.gif [FONT=Impact][SIZE=7][COLOR=purple][COLOR=red][I]
Anglophile92
it does make sense for him to be 70 years...or around that...
witches/wizards live longer than muggles....
but harry will kill him...so he doesnt have a long time to enjoy his new body
biggrin.gif
Professor Tofty
i think that boldemorts body is 1 year old but that his mind, solu and the rest are 70 years old. that's why he is alive becouse only his body died the rest of him is still alive and now has a new body
