From the opening credits to the french guards and their taunting "your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!", I think that this is the best movie ever. It's absolutely hilarious.

We have asked people within the rules to please not open any more individual movies threads without asking a moderator first for reasons explained within the rules page, so if you haven't read them yet or weren't sure about this one, then could I ask you to please check them again, specifically number 11? The link is in my signature.
You need to check the
Masterlist of Tv and Movie threads too.
I'll let this topic stay open because I know there are quite a few Monty Python fans here, but I'll change the title to include all discussions about Monty Python.
Please check with us in the future though.

people called Romani, they go the house?
Ah, Monty python my be the best thing ever. 'There is no rule 5!' Still cracks me up!
'he's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy!'
'Look, let me go in there and face the Peril!'
'No, it's too perilous.'
Where would we be without it! What's every one's fav movie? I like Holy Grail the best i reckon, followed closely by Life of Brian.

Monty Python RULES!!!!
But whenever I see a Monty Python thread, all people talk about are the movies!
Doesn't anyone like Monty Python's Flying Circus? (the TV series)
It's hilarious!

I'm ashamed of myself for having to say this, but no, I've never seen the Flying Circus. I wish i could find a copy of the episodes though, it sounds hilarious!

Oh, it's brilliant - you'll love it! If you can't find the series, try to get 'And Now For Something Completely Different'. It's a movie made up of all different sketches from the series. It's hilarious

I quoted flying circus!
'There is no rule 5!' *is very sad* 'You Don't like Spam?'
I've only ever seen a bit of flying circus i must admit, it was on the TV a few years ago. I want to buy the DVD's but i can't afford it. 'Nobody expects the spanish inquistion!'
So that's what 'now for something compltely different is' Ahhh! 'Its!' lol

I shall be buying it next time i get money. Again, like normal, i'm rather skint *sigh* But it's on the cheap in HMV i think.......hmmm, ponders....
'Blessed are the cheesemakers.' I'm sorry, i always quote monty python, i'm Crazzee!!!!!

Oops, sorry - didn't spot that! But go you!!!
Usually people just talk about the Knights who say "Ni!" kind of things, so it's cool to have some Flying Circus quotes too
The best sketch ever has got to the Argument Clinic sketch:
"Come in."
"Ah, Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No you haven't."
"Yes I have."
"When?"
"Just now".
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did."
"You didn't"
"I did!"
I love that one so much :-) It goes on forever, but it's hilarious!
I hope you get "And Now For Something Completely Different" because it's just great. You've got to love the restaurant sketch
Yeah, I'm always quoting stuff too - my favourite one being "Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?" *muaha!* I love that!

Yeh, I think i've seen that sketch somewhere, there's a monty python night to night (and every Wednesay) at this club, am meant to be going but my mate cancelled. It's great fun, cheesy music and some guys dress up as characters. is very funny.
Not to mention cheap drinks!
Oooh, i'm all in the mood to go out, but no one to go with. *snarl*

I was looking at 'And now for something completely different' in the shops but it's £12.99 and i can't afford it at the momnet

so i'm rather annoyed at the moment.
Was Flying Circus originally donae in black and white? I'm away to have a look on Amazon at how much they are because I want i want i want!!!!!

I'm a pretty big fan of Monty Python, but I've only seen one of their movies... I've not been able to find any of their other movies yet... And you're right, the "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" was pretty hiliarious...
Everyone does think of the "Knights who say 'Ni!'" when you mention Monty Python. I usually think of the bit where they went... "We apologize for the error. Those responsible have been sacked." And I also keep thinking of the conversation between the soldier and the peasent. "She turned me into a newt!" "A newt?" "... I got better..."

Ohmigosh, I luuuurve Monty Python. I've only seen The Holy Grail, though, but it was quite amazing. I was laughing so hard throughout the whole thing. "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries." Bahahaha!
Me and my friend were singing the Sir Robin song in school the other day. If you use the subtitles on it, its wicked funny because you can see everything that the minstrel person is singing. And I love the Knights Who Say Ni! They totally rock. The other day, my parents kept talking to me and I kept saying NI in a really loud annoying voice.
*sigh* I love that movie...

I love And Now For Something Completely Different!
Exspecially when John Cleese and the others are dancing in military uniforms...
I saw the Monty Python stage show, Spamalot, it was so good.

I would love to see Spamalot. It was actually in my town with Broadway Series South (and Clay Aiken as Sir Robin), but I couldn't get my act together to get tickets.
I was watching Sesame Street a while ago (I have a 2 year old) and the grouches were doing "Scramalot" which was parodying Spamalot (and mentioned shrubbery!) I thought it was hilarious and quite clever.
I agree that if you have not seen "Flying Circus" that you need to. I know when I used to rent movies that Blockbuster carried many episodes. If you don't want to purchase the movies, then you can look into renting them. I think the Twit Olympics are great.
When watching Monty Python you really need to pay attention, as British comedy is more witty than American comedy (I'm American, so I can say that)... there are a lot of subtleties in British comedy, that tend to play on each other... something that happens in the opening scene may not be touched on again until the closing credits, but if you pay attention it's so funny!
I'm a Lumberjack and that's ok...

Ahh! I'm so very happy that I found this Monty Python thread!
While I love the movies very much (Life of Brian is my favorite), Flying Circus will always beat them hands down for me. My favorite sketches are "Cheese Shop" "Silly Job interview" and "Flying lessons."
My favorite python is Graham Chapman so just about any sketch with him as a main focus is going to be one of my favorites. He's darn funny but also has a kind of dorkyness about him that I love.

Ooohh I love Monty python! I love Life of Brian so much! One of my favourite sketches is The Lumberjack song. I also like Self Defense against fruit, i think it's called and where Eric Idle's characters goes on about 'pointed sticks', lol.
Oh and also the one where everyone everyone gets turned into scottish people, I think it's called the science sketch with the giant blanchmange (sp?) lol!

Monty Pyton is some of the greatest fun ever! They have prooved it by making quotes as:
"always look on the bright side of life" and "no one expects the Spanish Inqusition" evergreens and memorable. I laugh so hard everytime I watch a movie of theirs. Life of Brian and Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail are some of my favourites.
Love them

Wait, just give me two seconds while I scream like an idiot.
[distant sounds of screaming]
Ok, done.
Oh my god monty python! Only the best thing ever!
The two commandments of my world are 'Though shalt read Harry Potter' and 'Though shalt watch Monty Python's Flying Circus, Life of Brian, Hold Grail, etc."
My mum is just as obsessed as I am, and she has actually MET the pythons. The lucky thing! She's got signatures and everything!
Seriously, if you ever hear of people dying because of laughing too hard, chances are they were watching Monty Python. They are their own 'Killer Joke' (Python reference, tee hee). Oh, the Spanish Inquisition cracks me up so bad. Has anyone seen Fawlty Towers? That's pretty funny too.
But anyway, we worship you, monty python, gods of comedy, none are as funny as you and your dead parrot!.
Which sketches from the TV series are your favourites? I'd like to know!
Ellie
