If you ask me, the 80's and early 90's produced some of the best movies and tv shows I've ever seen. Nowadays, you just don't see shows like Care Bears or Darkwing Duck, or movies like the Goonies. I miss the good old days.
Louise
Again, there is an existing thread talking about 90's shows here. There are also many places where you can talk about the 80's, but I can't find one specifically on 80's movies and TV in particular, so I'll let this one stay open and edit the topic title.

Can I ask you to please read the rules for the forum and the masterlist of TV topics before creating new topics in the future. The search facility can also help you out with that.

Yah one of my favorite movies came out in the 1980s; Ferris Beuler's Day Off. That has got to be every high schooler's fantasy "hookie" day.

My favrite part is when the car garage owner's take out Cameron's dad's car for a spin, and the go over the hill, and then the Star Wars theme song comes on...Oh happy day. cool.gif
Tuitus
Laugh out loud. I have watched that movie every year of my life. The scenes with Cameron's car were funny too, but my favorite part was when Rooney was beat up by Ferris' sister. laugh.gif
Accio Xbox
Oh yeah, where they meet in the kitchen and she thinks it's Ferris, then the bump to each other and she screams and kciks him in the face.... laugh.gif

Ah, good times.

Wait! I lied! My favorite part is during the parade and he's singing twist and shout and his dad is dancing in his office. Then they show a group of African-Americans in step dancing all along the steps, doing the same moves at the same time....now that is my all time favorite part!

Ok, I'm a HUGE Rainbow Brite fan. is that silly? Also i'll have to agree, the Goonies. Every time i hear "Booby Trap" i think of that movie laugh.gif

Does anyone remember Fraggle Rock?
Miseria
Omigod!! I [i]love[/] the Goonies! And then there's Howard the Duck. Has anyone seen that movie? I think it was made in about '86 staring Lea Thompson. Great movie. biggrin.gif
Shellolly
I loved 'The Breakfast Club'. I saw it at a time where labels and such were getting me down. I feel really sappy saying it, but it actually made me feel better.

Keepstar! I remember Fraggle Rock! I used to be obsessed with it! I really liked Boober....he was my favourite, I must say. Do you remember the episode with the Bolubiouses, where they had to scare people to make sure it was functional? That was so awesome!
keepstar1331
oh im more of a Doozer fan. Good ol days... good quality television.

Also Star Wars, freakin amazing movies. So much better than these new ones, though episode 3 ways redeeming though.

I still think Rainbow brite was the best. I used to make my little sister be twink and i would boss her around laugh.gif
Shellolly
I would have to say, my favourite show growing up was Gumby. I really liked Pokey and Spike, they were just so awesome. It got me into clay-animation for a while, I did a report on it in 7th grade. I mean, it's just a classic.

I'll even admit that I have the theme song on several CDs in my collection.
Snapelover
I was a huge Superman fan. wink.gif My mom had a huge crush on Christopher Reeves. So I also watched that movie...'Somewhere In Time' like...all the time.

I watched on T.V. Night Court (was that 80's or 90's...I can't remember...) The wonder years..I had a crush on Fred Savage... laugh.gif I did watch Fragile Rock like all the time. And of course...Goonie fan through and through. cool.gif
secretkeeper
I watched Ghostbusters today. Man is that a good movie. It has horrible special effects now but it is still a good movie.

Me being born in the late 80's, I wasn't a fan of shows back then but there was some good ones. The Breakfast Club and the Goonies are probly my favorite movies from back then.
Caitlin in Australia
I wasn't even alive in the eighties but I still love heaps of the movies ans TV from them.
Star Wars is a classic and I wouldn't live without the original three movies made. Some of the acting is better than the newer ones.
Flashdance was also an amazing movie made in the eighties. It is one of my all time favourites ever made! biggrin.gif
Velvet
I love really cheesy 80s/ early-90s TV, I actually searched long and hard for a 'Galaxy High' video after my friends and I were reminicing in the pub, oh and erm 'round the twist', oh wait no that was a different one, erm..'round the bend'- thats was it!, with a crocodile in the sewer and the pant people. I loved 'Nightmare' (sorry these are mostly childrens programmes but I'm a child of the 80s tongue.gif . Ooo does anyone remember Spatz (it was about a pizza place).

Sorry I was just going to talk about one but the more I think about it the more names and dodgy programmes I remember so I'll stop now before I end up with a long list of random programmes.

Oh, did anyone ever watch one where it was like Prince charming and Sleeping Beauty after they were married? - I seem to remember watching that a couple of time but can't remember the name and noone else seems to remember it.
MargeauxBlack
The Princess Bride is my all- time favorite 80's movie. I also love Ghostbusters, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Say Anything(john cusack).

Oooh, the eighties!

Does anyone else remember Labyrinth and Dark Cystal? I love those movies, the latter was my favourite movie as a child. I love Rainbow Brite too biggrin.gif

Oh Dinosaurs was amazing! I loved that show, i watched it every week, i wonder whatever happened to it.

Does anyone else remember Muppet Babies? I loved the show when i was really little... no one else remembers it sad.gif

I never liked the Goonies or some reason, but the Lost boys were amazing tongue.gif
etphonehome
I loved Labyrinth, me and the kids used to sing along with the David Bowie soundtrack. Ofcourse by the late eighties I was a mum of two so I remember Dinosaurs from watching with them.

My favourite 80s film was (and still is) Pretty in Pink.. I used to think James Spader was so cool..but then he still is in Boston Legal, with Dirty Dancing a close 2nd.

You'll be pleased to know that Muppet Babies can still be seen on some UK kids networks.
Padfoot08
Labyrinth is a great film. Its like the muppets for older kids. Plus sexy David Bowie, is a great reason to watch. biggrin.gif
I love Dirty Dancing, but I think that I've seen it too many times. I'm kind of sick of watching it now. wink.gif
I watched the Muppet Babies all the time. I still have VHS tapes of the shows. smile.gif

Isn't it directed by Jim Henson too? wow I never made that connection

I love labyrinth, I love Jennifer Connolly (Sarah) - it is the first movie I saw her in, she is so beautiful and an amazing acrtess and sorely underestimated. - Aren't Johnny Depps' children named after characters in labyrinth, oh wait no, thats Legend (sorry I got mistaken there)- although Legend is definately a film to be watched tongue.gif (although alcohol may help smile.gif ) - I compleely agree about Bowie - he is such a wonder, I love his music and he is such a hottie especially in that movie tongue.gif (labryrinth not Legend that is tongue.gif)

I realise that I already posted on the thread but just the reminder of Labryinth made me squeal and force my enthusiasm on thers tongue.gif - sorry

Yes, Missmugglebethany, it is Innerspace and it is Dennis Quaid not Kurt Russel.

Like, OHMYGAWD! I love the 80's genre.

Does anyone remember a cartoon by the name of Banana Man? There was this kid that would eat a banana and he would become a superhero...anyone?

Favorite 80's movie would have to be Valley Girl with Nicolas Cage and Pretty in Pink!
Padfoot08
I don't remember the banana man. wink.gif
Don't remember if this is from the late 80's or 90's but does anybody remember
Bananas in Pajamas?

I do. I saw an episode when I was in Australia.

"Bananas in Pajamas are coming down the stairs. Bananas in Pajamas are coming down in pairs!"

They are too cute!
Ygraine
Bananas in Pyjamas terrified me as a child! ph34r.gif

Yeah Velvet, Labyrinth is a Jim Henson film. It's amazing, I love it. Yeah Jennifer is a really good actress. She was only 14 when she played sarah, and David Bowie (i think he said it anyway) commented on her professionalism while making the film. Have you seen Beautiful mid? She's in that too. Any way, i'm getting off topic

Spaceballs is hilarious!

'Dark Helmet: Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star.
Lone Starr: What?
Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Starr: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become.'

Lol!

Does anyone rememeber Superted? That was brilliant biggrin.gif
Padfoot08
Does anyone rememeber Superted? That was brilliant.
Must say that I don't. huh.gif
What was that about?

Anyone else love St. Elmos Fire?

DoubleD
Spaceballs definitely ruled!
But the Life of Brian (was this one made in the 80's?) and other movies of Monty Pyton are/were so great!

But nobody mentioned the A-team, I'm very sad about this. :'(
Hannibal: "I love it when a plan works!"
Face and B.A. are cool too, but the coolest ever is Howling Mad Murdock!!!

Harry_Ginny777

phoenix_song
I cant really recall any 80's shows on tv, but the movies were really some of the best. Sure, some of the special effects werent that great, but back then those effects were really good. So I think the best 80s movie was The Breakfast Club. It you havent seen it, crawl out from under the rock you're living in and watch it. Its a great movie.
twiggysun
I loved the 80's dance films (footloose, Dirty Dancing, Fame, Flashdance) and the music from this films to. Dirty Dancing is still my favorite film ever!!! I don't know much about series then because I was born in '87 so I was to young. Is Fawlty Towers from the 80's 'cause that's really good!!
Silence Dogood
Well I was born in 1989, so I havn't seen a lot of the good ones. But of the ones I have seen my top five favorites are: Caddy Shack, The Breakfast Club, Bull Durham, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and The Goonies.

HJP/HJG_TrueLove
My favorite 80s movies are (in no particular order):

Sixteen Candles
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Airplane
A Christmas Story
Young Frankenstein
Jilly bean
Oh my gosh, a Christmas Story was the 80's...sorry, I'm a little slow. I love that movie. I haven't seen that many of the movies (My best friend about died when I told her I'd never seen the breakfast club or pretty in pink), but Ferris Buellers day off and Dirty Dancing are amazing.
