I think it is a memory. I think they are in a pensive. So the house could be a muggle house, or maybe he is dressed like a muggle as a disguise? Because the house maybe a muggles house? What if we find out why griffendor accepts muggles? Maybe he lived as one?? I don't know but I can't wait til friday!!!!!!

Very interesting. If JKR never does anything without a good reason, I wonder why she would choose now of all times to release the image?

It isnt JK's decision to release the covers. It is up to Scholastic or Bloomsbury. smile.gif

Anyway.
I said earlier, that IMHO Harry and DD are following that man. But i think i was wrong, because they arent usually lurking and spying. Its not DD's style, i guess.
So it seems really likely to me, that they are in somebody's memory, may be in Harry's. I dunno. unsure.gif
And it is also really likely, that the house is in Forest. But if its the headquater or someting like that of the Death Eaters, i really doubt that it still stands in the Forrest.

i go on vacation for a week thinking i wont miss anything since the book doesnt come out til the sixteenth, and it turns out ive missed bout the deluxe edition back cover AND the regular edition back cover releases!! how seriously exciting.

I also think the house is spinners end. even though it is introduced early on, it probably does have to have some importance, maybe even enough to show up on the cover.

the other theory of it being a memory is quite interesting. it does seem plausible that the house could be in godrics hollow where lily and james are hiding. something important could have gone down there, and that is what dumbledore is seeing in the pensieve maybe? could the short stocky man be wormtail?

Hey Everyone!

First post for me! Yay! I've only read up to page 3 so sorry if I repeat anyone but I have a theory and will burst if I don't write it now!

I think it is a memory (penseive stuff) for all reasons stated before.

At the end of OoTP, DD obviously starts being honest to Harry, and realises that he CAN cope with his fate being that of the prophecy. I think DD knows now that Harry needs all the facts about his past and so....

decides to show him what really happened the night of his attempted murder!!!!!

So, they delve into a memory that takes them to the point where Wormtail (going back to what others were saying earlier) is betraying Harry's mother and father by reporting to Voldemort or another of the Death Eaters (inside the house) the whereabouts of Harry and his parents.

This can help Harry really understand the series of events that is his past.

One flaw in this plan - who's memory is it and how did they get it?

Any other suggestions?

I like the theory that we're looking at something to do with Pettigrew betraying the Potters.

Like Schuki said, it could be Pettigrew going to tell LV where the potters are, or it could be him going to visit the house where the Potters are staying in Godrics Hollow like luna moon said.

I like the idea that it's the house at Godrics Hollow and we're following Peter there through his memory in a pensieve to see a conversation he had with the Potters before the murder that will give Harry and Dumbledore necessary information about LV.

Perhaps it's a memory that LV didn't trust Peter with so he put it into the pensieve. This would explain why the pensieves we see on the other covers are not in Dumbledore's office--the pensieve belongs to or is used by Voldemort.

This would mean that the pensieve would contain a lot of important information like some of Peter Pettigrew's memories, but it would also be possible not to get to the most crucial memories--like LV murdering Harry's parents. They only have limited time to investigate the pensieve, as indicated by the Dark Mark flying above their heads on the back of the regular edition.

I'm not sure (well, none of us are) but I think that this is someplace completely new...Maybe it's where Voldemort was born... aren't we supposed to get new details about his birth and such? I mean... he probably wasn't born in the Riddle House so... yeah... ph34r.gif

And has anybody realised that Mary had drawn these cover images based on only scraps of information? There is a possibility that the picture contains minor errors that are incongruous with the actual event(s) in the book they depict. If, for instance, she received the information 'Harry and DD hiding in the trees, watching a mysterious man with a can walk towards a cottage where another mysterious character is living' she wouldn't have known that it was Voldy (if it in fact is) and so wouldn't have known he wasn't capable of peering out the window like that. JKR would have seen the art long before it was shown to us, and would have corrected anything she didn't like - but it's possible she left in small errors just to throw us off.

Mary gets to actually read the book before she does the illustration. It's the UK cover illustrator who gets little snippets of information.

Does anyone realize that this could have something to do with Godric's Hollow? remeber Dumbledore was supossed to show Harry more about his past and his parents deaths and their lives? well then logicaly, this could very well be the Potter Household pre-voldemort viewed in a penseive..... so maybe just maybe Albus and Harry are observing a memory...
mmyrtle
I really like the idea that Harry and DD are looking through a pensieve into Peter's memory, bc the man on the cover does remind me of Peter, but how would they get access to his pensieve?

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

Highlight to View.

Could this be the reason the DD gets Harry from the Dursleys?... Also I agree with Mmyrtle, it doesn't look like Pettigrew at all. All I can think of is Frank Bryce going to his Gardening Shed, or else someone headed to the Potters Household. Maybe the person who stopped Sirius from protecting the Potters? The question is, why is there a snake on the Potters house? Gotcha, didn't I?

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!

I went to Scholastic and did the magnifying thingy-mabober and i saw on the door a creature in the shape of a snake. if its just me i always thought that the half-blood prince might be someone who was or is in slytherin. but in the 2nd book we learned that slytherin (salazar) was kinda racist in the sense of being not pure blood. which would mean the prince couldnt be halfblood. and also the half blood prince has to be half blood and cannot be the half "blood's" prince.[FONT=Arial][SIZE=1][COLOR=blue] huh.gif ph34r.gif unsure.gif
