Who has read the summary to HBP, dumbledore coming to see harry at the dursleys saying it can't wait, what could it be, what do you think
Louise

Erm...the summary hasn't been released yet, has it?

If it has and I've missed it, then you really need to be putting spoiler warnings in the topic title...

If you're referring to Amazon's summary, then that's not really a summary at all...it's just the official blurb that Bloomsbury released ages ago which is basically a summary of the books in general up until now.
EDIT : Yes, obviously it has been released..just checked the main site.
PLEASE people, I'm going to go ballistic if you guys start putting spoilers in here so close to the release...
TO EVERYONE -
PUT SPOILER HEADINGS IN ALL HBP RELATED THREADS PLEASE.
PLEASE READ THE NOTICES IN MY SIGNATURE.
I'd hate to have to ban people this close to the release.

Needless to say, but this post, as will any other post in this thread, contains SPOILERS (though they're Bloomsbury-sponsored spoilers)--if you're trying to avoid spoilers, I would recommend not reading anything in this thread.
Wow, I can't believe Dumbledore's the reason Harry leaves the Dursley's so soon!
I guess Spinners End could be someplace Dumbledore takes Harry after all.
Maybe Dumbledore has found out some information that will require that Harry learn occlumency as quickly as possible, so he must teach Harry himself.
Maybe he's wisking him away for a surprise birthday party. I think JKR needs to lightent things up a bit after such a difficult ending for the last book.

After I read the summary, I'm already thinking why he must go there to the You-Know-Where (I'm trying not to post any spoiler here so I think it's better to
read first the summary before posting here

)
What would be his business and how will the You-Know-Relatives react with his visitation? Would they react like when the You-Know-Red Family visited them?
There are so many things to find out and I can't wait for... what?! ONE DAY... sorry for shouting but is it true? One day? OMG!!!

Well, I think DD coming to get him really isn't much of a spoiler. I mean...different people have come to collect him from the Dursley's: The Weasley's, Hagrid, Lupin and the gang in book 5. All taking him sonmewhere. But the important thing to remember is that Harry leaves for a "much pleasenter reason", according to JK. So...I think DD is coming to get him only because he can protect him while traveling and to fill him in on where and why they are leaving. Sounds as if Harry is anxious to know why DD is coming there. Also...might he have a word with the Dursley's while there? Perhaps we find out a bit more about Aunt Petunia in that conversation. Well...1 day left.

I think DD going there is a spoiler because that could be one of the important events happening in HBP. Him, being in that place means important, urgent or emergency.

Gryffin, I know this thread will contain spoilers - that's why I changed the topic title so everyone else would too, so feel free to talk about the summary in here.
Albus - I too would strongly recommend that if people don't want to see any kind of information about the HBP before it's release - which would make anything a spoiler, in that case - then they shouldn't even really be on the site at the moment, let alone in this thread.
My point was that, after all my warnings, I see a thread being created which is likely to have spoilers in it - and I know that some people don't even want to read the summary - that has no spoiler headings in it, so seeing as how this thread is likely to get a lot of hits when it's clear that the rules and updates sections get so few, I thought here was a good enough place to catch people's attention and tell them that, when we reopen, all HBP related topics should contain spoiler warnings in the headings. Once those are in place, then you can talk freely, obviously.
Please though, for the sake of the mods sanity, when we do reopen, if you want to start a thread in the new post-HBP discussions, just make sure there's plenty of spoiler warnings all over the place, okay?
Cos it's not you guys that get the flak - it's us mods. So unless you guys want us to forward the nasty PM's we get onto the starters of the thread for them to deal with, it's far better to put spoiler warnings in...

Lets not fight about what is a spoiler and what isn't though, okay?
We've had the little warning, let's get past it now and get back to discussing the summary itself, okay?

I have just checked out the plot summary and its soooo cool!!
I'm really glad that they decided to release it before Saturday. I'm going absolutely crazy waiting for it to come out. Oh well, only 1 day left!!!
Anyway, why do you think Dumbledore is coming to the Dursleys to get Harry?? I think that it might have something to do with them going into a forest because the Deluxe version shows that. Whatever it is it has to be something good because JK Rowling said Harry's leaving for something pleasant.

Contaning Spoiler
Anyway, I got a bit mad that they released the summary, especially at this time. It's going to get more HP fans worked up, heh. That didn't stop me from reading it though *sigh*.
Well..the thing that couldn't wait 'til Hogwarts..it could have to do with picture on the deluxe cover. I believe that it's a memory, so Dumbledore could go there to show Harry a memory of some sort..
Ah.. just one more day! Whoo! Hehe, I'm just so..giddy.

Spoiler Warning: highlight below to read.
The first statement is ominous to me-"It is the middle of the summer, but there is an unseasonal mist pressing against the windowpanes" I think the mist are from Dark Marks hovering across the countryside, meaning the Dark Lord is attacking Muggle neighborhoods.
The way Dumbledore and Harry are looking at the stranger in the full deluxe cover seems to be cautious, so I don't think Dumbledore is getting Harry from the Dursleys to go there.
Has anyone read about the leak in Indianapolis?

Jul 14 2005, 04:41 PM
i think that since DD is coming to privet drive, he'll end up talking to the dursley's, maybe warning petunia of what is going on in the wizarding world, and how the war in the wizarding world will soon spill into the muggle world. to have DD come to harry's house instead of sending someone else to go get harry and then telling harry whatever he needed to tell him somewhere else [like in grimmauld place] must mean that DD needs a word with the dursleys like i said, or that there isn't anyone that DD can trust to safely get harry. the second part is hard to believe, especially with all of the order, and tonks being a metamorphagus.
i just had a thought.. what if DD needs harry to stay at the house longer, but needs to tell him something? no wait, harry is
leaving for a much pleasanter reason..

blows that out of the water..
i read about the leak in indy.. i live there actually! but i wonder if the chapter 18 title [which i wont post cause people might not want to know about it] is really true? thats awful late in the book to be harry's though, dont you think? the link is
here if you want to read it..
only one day left!!!

Louise, now I understand, thanks!...
So the question here is
why. Now, I envy those lucky readers who had bought HBP in Canada. I wonder how hard it would be not to share what you know about HBP...

Another leak?! OMG...this is like trying to shove corks in the Titanic....

There's too many!! *cries* Canada, London (apparently), France, the Netherlands and now Indianapolis?! *sigh*
Sooner Matthew closes this place the better...

Incidentally, I've read so many spoilers now that I've just about given up trying to protect myself now...I just hope that we've managed to stop things from being spoiled too badly for anyone here...we are doing our best...

Anywho, if you want to let me know what's been leaked mate, you can PM me if you want. Better not post it here....don't want you getting mobbed...

I think that DD is coming to take Harry and show him something that he knows about before school starts. They might be going to spinner's end.

I think dumbledore is picking harry up to go someplace kindof similar to the fifth book, "the advance guard". harry probably shouldnt go out unattendedsince voldemort is back and now in the open. dumbledore in my opinion is taking harry to spinners end, seeing as that is the second chapter, and harry leaves the dursleys much earlier this time. i dont think harry will be doing anything really important with dumbledore since he leaves the dursleys for much pleasanter reasons, and arent the ultra important things usually tward the end? i dont think they would be going to look in the pensieve yet, since its only the beginning of the book, and what is on the cover usually doesnt happen at the very beginning.

What if we only think it's Dumbledore? Could it be that from the moment the book opens Harry's in danger because he's being led by an imposter to something that seems pleasant at first but turns out to be a trap set by LV? It just seems so out of place that Dumbledore would take Harry away from the Dursleys. But times are getting more desperate.... Who knows?

!Possible Spoilers!
With the summary and everything now, including Chapter 18's title (which i won't post) *sigh* I think Spinner's End could very well be the place on the Deluxe edition. It just hit me after reading the summer. perhaps DD is taking Harry to a safe place hidden by the fidelious charm, or maybe he's going back to school early? Remember Hagrid said there ain't no place safer than gringotts, 'cept hogwarts. SS. Hmmm...

Tuitus, I like your theory about the first sentence referring to Dark Marks scattered along the sky. That sentence caught my eye as well, but I didn't think of that.
As far as why Dumbledore comes to get Harry... according to the Rumours section of J.K. Rowling.com, Harry will be leaving the Dursley's early this year "for a much pleasanter reason" than he did last year (the court hearing.) So, it could be important, but obviously not dangerous.

Im too weak, guys, i read the summary.

I know, im to blame, but i could not resist the temptation....
Anyway. I think DD is the "much pleasanter reason". I wonder if he is gonna meet the Dursleys. I want to hear a conversation between him and Petunia.

Jul 14 2005, 05:44 PM
actually i was thinking....why would dumbledore go himself? IS there a chance he might also be taking the dursleys to? I mean if they are begining to get the Muggles and if Petunia is killed, well lets just say Harry wont be as safe now would he.
Just a thought

It seems to me that this is happening halfway through the summer.... Is it possible the "pleasant reason" harry left the durselys ended so he had to go back to privet drive? and then AD goes to see him? *shrug* almost 35 hours left to go!

I think that maybe Dumbledore is coming to tell Harry about a big break they got for a way to get rid of Voldemort. He would probably tell Harry cause he knows that he's the only one that can get rid of him. Then they could spend the rest of the book (without missing classes) trying to find out how to use this new found skill or whatever it is...well whatever it is it's going to be better for Harry then it was the year before.

Jul 14 2005, 06:33 PM
i think DD has to come get Harry himself to make sure he is safe...and to have a talk to him and Petunia and the rest of the Dursleys...but that "summary" has kind of pointless...i expected something better. though i think the one on the US cover is different...they all are...

Wow, I... I... I can hardly tipe, or spell. I think that it's great that DD is coming over to Harry's, this is the better reason for leaving thatn last year. I just hope that DD brings the O.W.L. results with him because i just have to know!
I just re-read it and the last sentance caught my eye, about how the muggle and magical world intertwine, very interesting. This is probobly about Petunia, and her big secret! 1 day, i can't sleep!

1 MORE DAY LEFT!!
i can't wait!
*is jumping up and down*
If only time could go faster!
well being me i couldnt help myself ...so i read the summary....
i really didnt think DD would come to the Dursley's.
i am positive that spinner's end is a place they would go to....
the_bat_boy,
i agree with you on the O.W.L.S!
i need to rest...because once i get that book i'm not stopping til i'm finished reading it......

i completely agree with the O.W.L. thing i just have to know! I can't wait, the summary was awesome, but i also thought that it would be better too. I do think that they are going to Spinners End. Everyone seems to think its a place now anyway

Hmm...
Interesting. I read that blurb this morning. I was also thinking how the Dursleys would react seeing Dumbledore coming to their home, but perhaps this is where we will find out how Aunt Petunia knows more about the wizarding world than she lets on...? I don't know. It is interesting, though. Maybe he's whisking Harry away to a private island for some R&R?

Just a joke! And here I was thinking Harry would get to leave for a Bill/Fleur wedding...
Well, Jo will certainly be keeping us on our toes in the story. I'm so excited! In approximately 28 1/2 hours, I'll be reading Harry Potter!
Oh, and the O.W.L. thing...geez, I hope Harry gets a bunch. I don't know, things didn't sound to promising when he was taking them. Anyone else think Hermione's going to get 12 like Percy?

Jul 15 2005, 04:42 AM
there was also a little hint at the end, about the worlds of muggles and magic colliding. i mean, everyone knows that muggles will notice but maybe that was a subtle hint at something larger.... MUCH larger. i can see George Bush ordering the immmediate excecution of all wizards..... god i hate that guy....

I have not yet herd of this statement being issued; as Dumblesore is my favorite character I certainly wouldn't mind him appearing that early in the book!. We will find out soon enough if it is true!!!!! Only ONE more day!!!!!!! Milllions of us are doing some serious last minute sleuthing!!!

Jul 15 2005, 05:11 AM
Weezly, I too am interested in the last sentence, very interesting. George Bush wouldn't be president, though, the books take place in the 90's, but I could see him try to stop all wizard mariges. I think that the sentance is refuring to Petunia and her connection to DD, or to the overall muggle huting goin' on by the Death Eaters.
