El Verte Veritas
I don't know about you guys but I'm really wondering what order I should read the book. Should I start by reading the cover description. Should I look at the chapter names? Should I look at the chapter pictures? Should I just read along? I dunno, what do you guys do?
PeruvianBoi
well id say fist read the descrption summery thingy then go to the table of contents and read al the chapter titles and then just go to Chapter 1
Allie
Ooooh, this is exactly what I was getting into in the 'What are you doing on July 16th?' thread the other day, El Verte Veritas! (I'll leave the topic open because in my opinion, it's sufficiently different from the other thread to warrant a topic of its own, if that's what you were thinking... wink.gif)

Anyway, I am obsessed with not having anything spoiled, so I haven't read the HBP summary that was released today or any of that, and I don't plan on reading it before I read the book. I'm also not going to read the table of contents or look at the chapter pictures individually in advance. I'm just going to start at Chapter 1, read that chapter title, look at that chapter picture (I'm not sure whether that applies to the UK edition... I'll have the American version of the book, though, with the lovely Mary GrandPre drawings), read the chapter, take notes on the chapter (wink.gif), proceed to Chapter 2, and repeat. smile.gif Pretty safe plan, in my opinion.
El Verte Veritas
Very safe, maybe I'll do that. I never find the front description useful. Last time I looked at all the pictures before, and I dunno, I still enjoyed the book. But I think I'd like it your way. Although I hope that the spoilers would stop. I know I know, why don't you just not click on them. But I don't have that type of restraint!!! biggrin.gif Also I was interested in why you would take note Anthony Goldstein? Doesn't that make the book less interesting. How can you stop at the end of a chapter? I have to keep going...

Hehe, I'm exercising an enormous amount of self-restraint over on this end. My sister read the summary but I didn't, and now I'm partially happy that nothing will be spoiled and partially infuriated that there's something official about the book out there that I don't know. tongue.gif I think it'll be a good thing in the long run, though... I'll be very happy indeed this time tomorrow when I'm on my way to Borders spoiler-free! biggrin.gif

As for the note-taking... well, if you've heard about my strategy before, please bear with me... wink.gif You know how for 'Sorcerer's Stone' and 'Goblet of Fire' in particular there are all those clues scattered throughout that Quirrel and 'Moody' are the bad guys? Well, I'm hoping that by taking notes on the book chapter-by-chapter, I'll focus on teensy plot details more and I'll be able to figure out who the bad guy is or solve whatever mystery exists before Dumbledore or some other character spells it all out for us at the end. I've had a LOT of people tell me that I'm a total nutcase and this method will drain all of the pleasure out of reading... but to each her own! cool.gif Not to mention the fact that I'll find my notes quite amusing years from now... tongue.gif Geez, I think ahead too much!

just breathe, anthony, everything will be fine smile.gif what i usually do is read the summary, then from the Very Front to the very back. I'm picky like that... thats how i have read all the books...

and as for the wrapping paper, depends on if its good enough for something else! if it is, then i unwrap it carefully, if it isn't i rip it off. Just Kidding tongue.gif

Mmm... yeah, that was the other strategy that I was considering for a time. It has a good deal of logical merits... just read the facts in the order that the publishers present you with them! Sounds simple enough... I think that my sister, parents, and friend will all be going about it your way (some of my friends might even skip over the chapter titles and table of contents entirely! ohmy.gif), but I ultimately opted for a more abnormal reading style because I am definitely not a normal person. tongue.gif

Hehehe, that's the kind of positive encouragement that I could use at the moment! Seriously, if you could see me sitting here... I'm totally spazzing out. laugh.gif This is *dangerous* excitement, people... can't wait until I just have my hands on the book! Oooooh... less than twenty-four hours left to go for my time zone! biggrin.gif

Oh yeah, and we can add to my 'prepping for HBP' agenda (not that it has anything to do with how I'm reading the book tongue.gif) that I'm planning on sleeping until 11:30 for the first time this summer so I don't fall asleep on line or anything tomorrow night!

Oh God, Allie!! I really admire your effort to by wanting to read the book slowly! You know there's people who always read the back page to know the ending, then only they carry on reading the book?? I always wonder how they do that! I mean, what's the point of reading the whole book if you knew how it ended already?? huh.gif

Anyway, I'm going to try my best and follow Allie's steps. But I dunno... I can kind of see myself staring at the cover for a whole five minutes! Just holding the book in my hand and couldn't believe the fact that the long 6 months plus of waiting finally ended and I can devour the book anytime with any speed I want.

And then, I'm going to start with Chapter 1 and read them page by page... maybe screaming a little if anything I'd want to happen or wouldn't want to happen *did* happen though! tongue.gif Oh boy, I'll be totally losing it..... wacko.gif

18 hours more peeps!!! biggrin.gif

Ok, here's what I do. First I run my hands over the new cover, looking at the great artwork in person, not just on a computer screen. Then fan the pages of the book so I can smell it. I know its wierd but I'm very smell oriented. After that look at all the chapter titles and finaly dive right in.

I don't think I could take notes, I only do that for school, but it is a great idea! Maybe I will the second time around in abou 4 days or so, when i take it slowly.

I can't stand the thought of having to sleep after I get it. Starbucks will save me again!!! House blend, black. laugh.gif
