I vote yes! To be quite honest, my eyes began to water as I was reading the last few chapters...
BlackPearlPirate
Yes, definitely! I was definitely crying a little at the end while I was reading. I had to stop myself so I could finish reading, though!
tears4sirius
most definitly! when i turned to the next page and saw AVADA KEDAVRA i was shocked and stunned with tears. i knew he would problye die but i didnt expect it till book 7 so i most sertintly cried while i read the rest of the book!
Lily_Potter_1243
I cried just as much this time around as I did when Sirius died. I was also very suprised and uspet about the whole SNpae thing though. Its all very agrevating.

sad.gif It made me cry when Harry sees Dumbledores body on the ground, it was SO sad
Nox.Lumos
I voted yes. It's been one of the few, FEW books I've ever cried for.

I cried when Dubledore told Harry, "I am not worried, Harry...I am with you." and when Harry promised to obey him if he told him to run and save himself and leave Dumbledore, that's when I knew he was going to die. And then, when Harry has to force-feed the potion, I was on the verge of tears.

So sad.

i cried when dumbledore beg to snape but still snape killed him with aveda kedavra!!! and pity for harry coz why he should saw the killing DD and he cant do anything to save DD... and on chapter 30 when harry bids goodbye to ginny and to his bestfriend that he doesnt want to go back to hogwarts and go to godric hallow but his bestfriend still wants to go with him where ever he'll go... a true friendship.... sad.gif

I was more excited then sad. I think this type of ending adds some good potential for the seventh book. I am sure it will be a different style of book but I think because of the ending in HBP, the seventh book will be my favorite.
emmalover
Well I've only cried in one book in my life and that was The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. I cried for 15 minutes during that book, it was incredible. I was deeply saddened by the last 2 Harry Potter's but neither has made me cry.

Yep exact same here except after i finished the book and went to bed i actually REALLY started crying.. i kept thinking about Snape and i wished i could kill him myself but then came along the theory that dumbledore begged snape to kill him.. i really hope this is the case otherwise snape will be my worst enemy for life even though he is not a real person
Lulu
I voted yes as well. It was the saddes thing I have ever read.
Don't believe it.. can't wait for the next book..
Jerry
Yep, definately a sad ending.

The last four or five pages made me far more upset than dumbledore dying. The last few pages were simply a testement to both Harry's love and respect for DD and also for his deep and lasting friendship with R and Hr.

Though, I have to admit, the H/G breakup hit me hardest of all... sad.gif
H_Weasley
That was one of the saddest endings i have ever read i knew that snape was a bad guy and that dumbledore was gonna die but it was still a big shock and then harry just had to go and break up with ginny mad.gif but it was still one of the best books ive ever read
hjinx
I was just crying- I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!! But I alos had that murderous longing to kill Snape mad.gif
slytherinsheir
most tragic ending in the series so far but sure does set up the next book nicely

me too. And just kept on going from there! For some reason, at that point, I started worrying that Dumbledore was a gonna. I dont know why and I was so hoping I was wrong. I was sobbing my heart out by the end!

I also cried during the last "His Dark Materials" book - but it was nothing when compared to this one!

I'm a shipper, you know - I didn't cry when Sirius died in ootp, and somehow I was already expecting DD's death, for Harry'll have to reach the final battle for himself and DD was too much of a parental figure not to go. So I didn't cry for the death - I cried because of Harry ending up with Ginny (though I don't think it'll really end forever - he loves her or he wouldn't have ditched her to protect her and "sacrifice" himself and his feelings; and she does love him too - she understands him and does not plead for him to stay with her, she has already waited for him 5 years or so, she'll be able to wait a little more... mellow.gif ).

I was really upset over Harry not returning to Hogwarts too - but then, JK has said something about a new DADA teacher (well, there'll be a new one, obviously, since Snape won't be accepted back in the school after murdering the headmaster rolleyes.gif ) and two members of the Order we'll get to know properly - I think Harry'll be a lot closer than some'd think...

Summarising, I voted YES...

i put yes as well.i was stunned after snape killed dumbledore.and then after the final chapter I was still stunned.and I was up most of the night when I finished the book,so when I tryed going to bed,i couldnt stop twitching cause of the fact that dumbledore died is just horrible.and I hate snape more than ever and i want harry or somebody to kill him.
FrEcKlEd
I cried too. And honestly, the only times I cry are when people yell at me and when Im reading Nicholas Sparks books. I cried like a baby, 'cause of Dumbledore's death, and because of the very Spiderman-ish way in which Harry had to end his blossoming relationship with Ginny.

Oh yeah, I did cry after that too.

I got really sad when Dumbledore died. Which is weird cuz I didn't even feel a trickle of sadness when Sirius died. Dumbledore's death was more dramatic. Also his funeral, when Harry remembered Dumbledore and all the things he did. I knew that Dumbledore would die, I saw the pattern, but it still seemed unexpected. And also the fact that Hagrid and Grawp were crying was sad. Giants, the most savage creauteres who kill for fun crying over this man was something incredibly sad.

YES.

And at the burial, when told Hermione and Ginny cried and where it says that tears were prikling down Ron's long nose too ...

I cried, I did.

I haven't cried while reading a book for years... The best/saddest parts were

QUOTE
'I see you are-'
'Dumbledore's man, through and through,' said Harry. ' That's right.'

PG. 605
That part was awesome... the whole funeral was. It was extremely well done. Yu really felt it...

QUOTE
'Kill me, then,' panted Harry, who felt no fear at all, but only rage and contemp."Kill me like you killed him, you coward-'
'DON'T -' screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind them, '- CALL ME COWARD!'

PG. 564
I don't believe that Snape murdered Dumbledore, he did it because Dumbledore made him, and only out of Snape's EXTREME loyalty did he do it... and he was really hurt inside...
But if I'm wrong, and Snape murdered him, then it doesn't deserve to be here

QUOTE
As he lay there, he became suddenly aware that the grounds were quiet. Fawkes had stopped singing.
And he knew, without knowing how he knew it, that the phoenix had gone, had left Hogwarts for good, just as Dumbledore had left the school, had left the world... had left Harry.

PG. 589
That made me CRY.
cheers to butterbeers
I have to admit I was getting choked up at the funeral but what really turned on my tear faucet was when after the burial Scrimgeour said "I see-" and harry says (not direct quote) "I'm Dumbledore's man through and through"

that's so sweet,
I also cryed during the last chapters of the book. especially the funeral, and ofcourse DD death...

Hmm..I'm one of the few that voted no. Of course, it was sad. I got as emotional as anyone here.. But, the ending was like a..sort of a party, if you will think of it as that.. Dumbledore was old..his time was coming, with or without Snape killing him. He told Harry what was needed to be explained, and now Dumbledore can rest in peace, sort of. So..it wasn't really the saddest for me. Sure, it was the best ending, I think, out of the series (maybe with the exception of the GoF), but not the saddest. huh.gif
Oh, and I swelled up at the "Dumbledore's man, through and through, that's right" quote.
bloomlover_mx
I also voted yes, I also cried at the end of OoP but nothing compared to this, I actually had to stop reading so I could calm down, even after I finished it and was triyng to sleep I couldn't stop thinking about how much I hated Snape, I was crying as if I had actually met Dumbledore, well maybe not as much, Rowling is such a great writer!!!

... dolorous ending ever?

Couldn't help noticing that.

(Bet you could...)

I haven't cried while reading a book. HP6 didn't change that, HP7 might.

I didn't cry over it, partially because I already saw that page (US 6-596) and a short article in Newsweek about lots of bets in a UK casino being placed on Dumbledore dying. Even more suspiciously, they were from the place where the first few books were printed.

Most people keep saying I'm cold-hearted, but it was a nice twist from the happy endings we see all the time.
LoveTheVIII
dumbledore ordered snape to kill him. he would never beg for his life.
EmmaWatsonsHot
What made me sad is Ginny and Harry splitting up...unfortunately for me, when I picked the book up, I just flipped through the pages and I opened to where Snape does the A.K. curse... since it was CAPITALS it kina stood out, so I read the sentence. So before I even read the first chapter I knew Snape would at least have cast the curse at DD, even though I didn't know the circumstances, or whether or not DD managed to evade the spell. So DD's death didn't make me very sad, although I do want him to come back. But like I said, Ginny and Harry breaking up is more sad, because I always thought they would date since COS.
Flea
I cried to both Sirius and Dumbledore's deaths. And what saddened me even more is when Harry told Scrimgeour that he was Dumbledores man through and through even if he was dead. This book truly had the saddest ending of all the other books. When i was done reading Ootp i thought that was going to be the saddest ending but i was wrong. And now we have to wait 2 years if not more to see what happens to Snape and how Harry destroys Voldemort. I really hope Harry kills Snape.
Vincent
I was feeling sad about almost everything, but then when Harry broke up with Ginny just because he feared Voldemort would target her, I just felt heartbroken. I'm not sure why, but I just did. Usually I think that the "happy" ending is far too predictable and cliche, but this time I want Harry to live throughout the 7th book and end up with Ginny. I really do.
matt22
I voted no. I know lots of people would find it sad, but to me it just intensifies the plot. I know your probably thinking that I have a heart of stone, but as Dumbledore said in Book I can't remember which, "Death is just another adventure" or something like that. I don't remember things to well.....
Dark_Lady
I thought it was the saddest ending so far.
Dumbledore actually dying wasn't all that sad, in fact I found Sirius' death to be sadder.
It was Dumbledore's funeral that made it so heart-wrenching . . . The centaurs firing their arrows in tribute was the saddest moment for me. After that I wanted to go and kill Voldemort myself!
Proto
Yeah , it was sad , I didnt cry tho , just very upset , I got kinda pissed in the beginning when draco stomped harry face.
tipi

You know, for me it was very sad, but I feel in the whole book that Dumbledore was very sad and resigned, like he knew always he will not survive of this adventure... the training with Harry was just like a transfer of knowledge an trust with the one person he knew can challenge Voldemort.....
Nevertheless, I think I enjoy so much DD training with Harry, and this stuff of Horcruxes add more interest to the history.
If I cried reading book 4, every one can imagine how much I cried with this one....
headmaster_dippet24

I thought it was really sad because Dumbledore is my favorite Character and seeing him drink the potion mad me really sad and a little scared and Then he died and I cried and I read it agian and I still cried. Its really sad.
Phoenixgirl845
YES! YES! and YES! Harry lost his mum and dad, his godfather and now dumbledore. everyone Harry cares about dies its so sad! I cried for at least 25 min! ohmy.gif
starlight
i was really sad, i was almost crying. But i nkoe that it was probably for the best, Harry needs to fight his own battles.
awemily
as i was reading the last few chapters, i was almost in tears...i was thinking, if there is a problem, they cant say "lets go tell dumbledore, he'll know what to do" sad.gif
Minizter_For_Morons
It is really sad, him being a main character and a father figure of sorts. He was the guiding hand, Harry is going to be lost without him.
Wulfric
It was defenetly the saddest ending of all books i have ever read! i started crying at the moment when dumledore died and could not stop until i was throu the book. dumbledore was my favourite character and i cannot believe that he hat to die because of that coward that he trusted so much...
Leira
I cried both when, er.. about midways in the book or something, when Harry says to Dumbledore that he's his man through and through, and Dumbledore get tears in his eyes, and says, "I am very touched, Harry"... Aww... Couldn't stop myself.

And that somehow made it even worse when Dumbledore died, unlike a lot of the readers, I didn't really suspect Dumbledore to die, so I was shocked, and cried for the rest of the book... And to be honest, things like that is what make a great book, and a great writer, I believe, one that can both make you laugh and cry... HBP surely did that to me.

Bravo, JK!
Sid@bristol
ye i thought it was quite sad but it also potentialy made the plot in number seven more exciting
hermione_rocks
unfortunately, the ending got spoiled for me by my sister mad.gif , so i knew he would die.. i still don't think i would cry if i didn't know... i cry all the time when i watch movies and tv shows.. but a book has never made me cry.. i was really sad about the ending and i voted yes, because it was probably the saddest ending yet

how he died was probably the saddest part.. i can't believe snape was the one who killed him..
Dino_Allum
I voted no. Really the only death that's made me tear up was Dumbledore talking about Cedric Diggory at the end of book 4. Not that it's not sad that Dumbledore's dead, but because he knew what he was getting in to. He was an adult, and knew it was probably coming. And no one was around who was as eloquent as him to talk about him at the funeral.
profetu
i voted yes...it was the saddest ending ever...i cryed and cryed over and over again...asking myself why??????why did he died.....the answer to the Q......book 7.....but with this death everything changes....everything is gonna be different.......nothing in the book is gonna be the same.....

but again this is not the end cuz harry can speak to dumbledoor because he is in the potain in his office...i`m wondering...will he explain everything to harry from there or he`ll remain silent
TCA
No it's not! Dumbledore dies to keep Snapes cover as a spy against Voldemort. Although his death is sad, we know now that Snape is closer to Voldemort than ever before and now he can bring him down from the inside!

I think i posted my full theory somewhere else on this site

idk
i wasnt expecting DD to die until book 7 when snape killed him i had tears in my eyes but i stopped crying to read only to start crying when i finished the book i mean harry had a horrible experience in that book DD was like his grampa and DD got killed and then he finally gets a girlfriend but splits up wth her because he doesnt want her to get hurt or used by voldy
Bucklewheat
Yeah it made me cry!
First book in over 25 years that made me do it.
It is well written, and it all confuses me greatly.
So I will have to seek some comfort on the forum here hoping to get out of my initial shock.
I don't think just 1 book will be enough to cover all the loose ends there are just now fully 2 my satisfaction. 600-700 pages just cannot cover it all.
And i just want DD back.
Dont care how, just JKR has 2 write him back!
I will miss him sooooooooooooooo............ sad.gif
LooneyLovegood
when i found out he died i COULD NOT believe it!! what will happen to Harry? It was thanks to Dumbledore's advice and wisdom that he now knows everything about Voldemort! But HOW will Harry get more info about Voldyemort without Dumbledore! I was SOOO mad when I found out he died. He was my favourite character! sad.gif sad.gif unsure.gif
