Well, i was right and wrong,

1, dobby and kreacher did fight - right

2, harry did use kreacher against the darkside - right

3, dumbledore did die - right

4, harry did not get a high enough grade to do potions under snape but still got to do potions under a different teacher who did not look for as high grade as snape - right and wrong

5, harry did not kill a deatheater - wrong

6, harry became the master of kreacher - right

7, no one tried to kill voldemort at the moment of his birth, his mother simply lost the will to live - wrong

Well what do you think
El Verte Veritas
I offer my simplest and greatest gift I can give to a stranger, congratulations. There are few things greater than knowing we are right, and even fewer things wiser than accepting we are wrong. I believe that very few people guessed that Harry would use Kreacher against the dark side, you must be proud of being correct. And now, after my intro, I ask a question of which you have two options...

May I or others post on this forum, on whether we were right or wrong on various things, ( I was terribly wrong, please view my Chapter Chronicles for a good laugh ).?

Or would you prefer us only to dwell on your amazingly correct and incorrect assumptions?

Sincerely,
El Verte Veritas

P.S. I enjoy Jelly Belly's.

Yeah, I think that's a fine idea, El Verte Veritas. Let's make this a 'How did your theories fare?' sort of thread... I think I'll go change the topic title right now. smile.gif I actually am surprised that no-one has tried starting a thread like this yet, because what kind of Harry Potter fans would we be if we didn't want to shamelessly brag about our theories that held true and laugh (I can totally empathise with this one... so many theories of mine revolved around Anthony Goldstein, who wasn't even mentioned once in the book!) at the ones that now seem downright stupid? So go ahead, everyone... have fun! wink.gif

Most of my theories ended up ... well, wrong. There's one of my old theories that I'm pretty pleased with, though -- one of my first posts at VTM, as a matter of fact... click here! Not bad foresight, eh?! I was really tickled when the phoenix-shaped thing came bursting out of Dumbledore's tomb at the end of the book. tongue.gif Needless to say, I am quite proud indeed.

And incidentally... darkflux, when I read that part where Dobby and Kreacher fought, I thought of you! wink.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Well, it can be summed up in one word, really......dismally. tongue.gif

Godric Gryffindor wasn't the HBP
Snape really is a toerag (apparently)
There really wasn't any hidden depths to the shipping issues
Snape wasn't an animagus
Neville's gran and her vulture hat had nothing to do with the HBP
The Prince had nothing to do with Sirius' 'Nature and Nobility' book
Harry didn't continue Occlumancy
The DA wasn't important
The statue in the DoM wasn't important
Harry didn't care half as much about Sirius' death as I thought he would do
Lupin wasn't a father figure...bit of a stud to Tonks, apparently though... blink.gif

*sigh*

What did I get right?

Dumbledore died
Voldemort's soul was sort of split
Spinner's End was a house
Felix Felicis was a spell/potion rather than a person
And....

Erm.....

Yeah, that's just about it, actually...tongue.gif

Reckon I should give up this theorising thing...tongue.gif

EDIT : Oh no, wait!! I said that the Order communicated with their patronuses....one more thing I had right, anyway...tongue.gif
tb42893
Only two of my theories were right:

Spinner's End was a place and Dumbledore died.
kerfluffed
Yeah I think that most people had more wrong thoeries than right. But if we were right all the time what fun would it be laughing at how wrong we are (Draco and Harry are not friends...for some reason I really thought they would reconcile...and so far Ron has not been proven to be Dumbledore from the past...boy was i wrong!)

Did anyone else feel like that when you were reading HBP that you were looking for some of the thoeries that were so engrained in your mind and it was almost distracting? I did. So maybe a little less theorizing next time...
Wolf Soul
I was right about:

Harry and Ginny hooking up wub.gif
Ron and Hermione liking each other (DUH!)
Lupin/Tonks (although it is slightly creepy... unsure.gif )
Dumbledore dying ( sad.gif )

I was wrong about:

Snape being good mad.gif
Godric Gryffindor being the HBP *shrug*
Harry being overly upset about Sirius and it interfering with his life

I had other theories which have slipped my mind at the moment huh.gif
kipsy
ooooh boy....

soooo many wrong... (and so many snape theories....I had about five with him tongue.gif)

- Snape was actually a good person at heart

- Snape would pay his debt to James

- We'd find out more about Snapes history

- Snape would die saving Harry

- Huge revealation about Lily

- More about the past with the Marauders (this was more a hope then a theory)

- DA would help fight in the next battle (I was SURE about this one)

- First chapter would be the death scene of Lily and James

- The heir of Gryffindor was the HBP (I was SO positive of this)

- The "character X" was the DADA teacher

- The new minister was Felix Felicis

- Harry would actually TELL Neville that he was ALMOST the "Chosen one" but of course, this never happened....

- Neville and Luna would join the trio (grrrrr....this i WANTED to happen....)

- Sirius would come back with the mirror somehow (but again, of course, Sirius was mentioned about five times in the whole book)

Now what was I right about....?

- pensieve WAS important to the plot

- Harry and Dumbledore DID join up

-Harry DID become the new quidditch captain

- Some ship stuff that was pretty predictable....

blaaah....that's it really...... dry.gif it's almost embarrassing how terribly wrong i was about nearly everything. laugh.gif
Snapelover
Funny enough I was right about the use of love potions in the Joke shop and that they were good for 24 hours. I also was right it would be a minor sub-plot that someone would use them.

I am NOT wrong about Severus Snape! I refuse to aknowledge that he is...Dana_scully how did you say it...toerag? Nope...won't give up hope yet...sad huh?

I was right Bill and Fluer were engaged.

Other than that, I was wrong about everything else! I don't like to theorize too much, then I get confused.

Oh and I was wrong about Lupin dying by Wormtail's hand. I was so sure he would bite it by his silver hand. Made sense to me.... dry.gif
Louise
heh heh...yeah, afraid I did call him a toerag...tongue.gif I have no idea where that expression comes from....I think it's a London thing where people used to clean coal dust and things from between their toes with these rags or something...I dunno...I'm sure that there's someone here with more knowledge about that than me...tongue.gif

Basically, it's a fairly polite word for a not very nice person..tongue.gif

Don't get me wrong though...you only had to be witness to my Alan/Snape obsession a few months back (check the 'Severely Slytherin' thread..wink.gif) to know how much I adore Snape and I refuse to believe he's gone bad too...but after that interview, I don't know...I'd hate to be labelled 'delusional' again in a few years...wink.gif But for now, I'm clearly not alone in standing by Snape, and so there I shall proudly stand until JKR shoots us down...biggrin.gif (Just don't quote me on this in two years time when the next book comes out...you've seen my theorising record...tongue.gif)

Oh, BTW...one more thing I was right about...Lupin's job for the order was to try and get the werewolves on side....yay!! biggrin.gif
Beans
My brother and I kept guessing who would die in this book. I thought it was going to be Hagrid(wrong, but I'm glad), and he guessed Dumbledore.

My sister was right when she said Ginny and Harry would get together(sorry if I shouldn't say this here).

I was right in my guess that there would be alot of similarities and things brought back in this book from the other two even numbered ones. And I'm guessing the seventh will bring back stuff from 1, 3, 5, and 6.
Hermione_Resilda
Now that I think about it..I got more stuff right than I thought I did. Sad about the wrong things though..

Wrong
*Harry and Hermione getting together *sigh*

*New character or Nicholas Flamel being HBP

*Wormtail dying

*My theory on why Voldemort didn't die when the Avada Kedavra spell backfired..

Right/wrong
*Ron getting together with someone other than Hermione, which is true, and then not true, because he ended up with Hermione in the end dry.gif

Right
*Bill and Fleur getting engaged

*Harry becoming Quidditch captain

*Sirius wouldn't come back

*More about Snape's background

*There would be more suspicion about which side Snape was on..

ATTENTION : SPOILERS!!

I was right:
- Hermione and Ron liking each other
- Hagrid still alive in 6th book
- Harry and Ginny going out together

I was wrong:
- Neville being HBP
- DD remaining alive
- Draco Malfoy death
- Sirius stablish contac with Harry
- Luna appearing like and important character in 6th book

harryluva4eva
i have a ?
about snape being the hbp
how can he be if harry said..well the hbp cant be my dad or his friends because they were too young to have a book from 50 years ago...
am i mistaken by thinking that snape went to school the same time harry's dad did ...im confused and would appriciate an answer thanks ...
passerby
harryluva4eva- Snape's mother, Eileen, owned the book before Snape. Math works out then.

Theories gone right:
1. Dumbledore did die.
2. Harry does like Ginny.
3. Neville and Luna don't hook up.
4. Ron and Hermione still can't figure out their feelings.
5. Grawp really doesn't do anything
6. Malfoy does become a death eater.

Thoeries gone bad:
1. Hagrid didn't die.
2. Harry doesn't return to Number 12 Grimmauld Place.
3. Lily is not the HBP, (Tho I did figure it out towards the middle).
4. Snape didn't defend Dumbedore

I'm sure I had more wrong ones, but they're all so insignificant as it is, that I can't seem to wrack my brain for them. That's how I fared. I guess I'll have to start another list for book 7 "Harry Potter and the Death of My Theories."

Hi there harryluva4eva.

Please have a look at my signature below, there are a number of links here which you’ll hopefully find useful.

With regards to your question passerby is absolutely correct, Snape's copy of Advanced potions was presumably handed down to him from his mother who would have went to Hogwarts around the same time as Volde and Hagrid (or at least closer to) explaining why the book was 50 years old.

But this thread is for reflecting on your hbp theories. If you have a question or are wondering about something, you can carry out a search to see if there's a topic already discussing your question or wondering or alternatively send someone you know or one on the forum (which will happen soon enough) or one of us mods a pm and we'll try to help you out.

katie bell would become a bigger character - sort of right as she was nearly killed, not just mentioned in quidditch matches

ron and hermione would get together - again, sort of right

snape would shock us once again - right (he certainly shocked me when he killed DD)

narcissa would be a big character - wrong, draco seemed to be the main malfoy

wormtail would return - sort of but not for long

more than one big character would die - wrong

lupin and tonks - right

lupin and harry would grow closer - wrong
Sofie
my predictions were

- Sirius isnt dead (wrong)
- after Jo's interview where she stated that he's dead - Sirius will come back anyhow (wrong)
- the mirror will be significant (wrong)
- Harry will be shouting LOT more that in OotP (wrong)
- Hermione and Ron will hook up (kinda wrong)
- we will see more of Moody (wrong)
- Lupin will take care about Harry or at least they will correspond(sp?) (wrong)
- the Order will again fight against Voldemort (wrong)
- Harry's new love interest will be a new character (wrong)
- Luna will be important (wrong)
- the HBP is ryffindor/his heir (wrong)
- the cover shows Godric's Hollow (wrong)
- one of the Weasleys die (wrong / i thought it before DD's death was spoiled)

but
- this much pleasanter reason is the Burrow (right)
- Snape will be significant (right, though i never thought that he will be the bad guy mad.gif )
- DD will die (it was spoiled me in April, so that doesnt count as right smile.gif )
- we will see the Joke Shop (right)

gosh....im not really talented in Divination tongue.gif
anony-mouse
Very well. Pretty much everything I had a theory about was right, but I admit to having been completely clueless on several points, such as who the HBP is, and whether Snape is good or evil...

1) Snape will get the DADA job, and someone new will be potions (right)
2) Dumbledore will die so that Harry can stand alone in book 7
(right)
3) Harry + Ginny
(right)
4) Ron + Hermoine
(we're still getting there, but it's definitely clear that it's going to happen)
5) We'll find out more about Petunia and her association with the magical world
(wrong)

Overall, I think that's a pretty good hit/miss rate.
