Eowyn,
Have you seen the essay quoted by AQHYagrl? That is the essay I mentioned earlier, about JKR's interview quotes.

Yes, sorry, I meant to credit you for that. I'm a member at Portkey so when Eowyn wanted to see it, I figured it would be easier for me to post it then her (oh he, sorry Eowyn!) so that she wouldn't have to sign up and all. Thanks for pointing it out, it's a really good essay.

Hai AQHYAgrl,
We have to thank you for posting that essay here. In portkey, one should register themself as a member to read the essays. So you made it easy for the people here. Thankyou very much. By the way have you read Herminia's fanfiction? Really it is something very different from other fan fictions.

Oh, your very welcome smile.gif and, I'm on Chapter 13 on Herminia's fanfic. It's very good. I have been printing out several chapters a day at work and reading them when I go home at night! This is going to sound silly, but sometimes I totally forget it's a fanfic and I start getting all excited when questions are being answered tongue.gif This is the first fanfic I've read. I've never really liked them because I thought it would take away from the real books, but it doesn't. Can you suggest any other good H/Hr fics to read?

I forget it's fanfic too, but that's because I'm immersed in writing it and thinking up stuff. When I participate in debates, I sometimes forget it's not canon and almost bring up incidents laugh.gif

I don't really read H/Hr Year Seven stuff, because I don't want it to affect mine, but I do read humorous H/Hr stuff and for that, Caina's HBP in Review is the best. Seriously - all of you - read it. Now. tongue.gif

I love Caina's HBP-In Review fan fic! It's hilarious. I have never read anything so funny before. I love it! I also love how Caina manages to put in a lot of 'H/Hr moments' in it too! wink.gif We must however remind the readers that it's probably rated R for now. tongue.gif

Aye, it's not too raunchy though. I nearly cracked a rib laughing at Ginny's characterization and the Dementor Jizz. And the fact that Harry can't remember his godfather's name!

I am SO excited that they've finally cast Luna! I look a lot like Luna, but alas, I'm American and it was never to be tongue.gif . ANYWAY, I'm thrilled that they've picked a Harry Potter fanatic! She really looks the part, and I should add that she looks good with Rupert/Ron!

Hai Herminia,
You will not believe me, when I saw the picture of that girl, casting Luna, i immetiately rememered you. Yeah, She looks like you. I have seen your photo in your website. My daughter thinks that she is a perfect choice for that character.
So in your fan fiction, you are planning to bring Naville as an important character.

I think Evanna's a perfect choice. A girl on LiveJournal claims to know Evanna from Drama Class and says she's just the nicest girl and the most Luna-like in real life, which is WONDERFUL! She's a true Potter fanatic...! *laughs*
My friend said that too when she saw Evanna, Lupin123.
I guess I do look somewhat like her; but it's not so much the shape of the face that is similar (her face is a little rounder and mine a little thinner), it is the smirk and the cricked eyebrows. wink.gif According to my friend, Evanna has my facial expressions! laugh.gif

Good point, Lupin! She does look like Luna! Herminia, I really thought you were from the UK but you posted earlier that you are American which was so surprising to me considering your writing style and language usage. You seem to have that British look about you too! By the way, the view from your room (on your site) is spectacular. What is your major? Journalism, I hope wink.gif
Lupin123
Hai Herminia,
I am from India, having two children, my daughter is 15 years old(very much like Hermione),my son is 12 years old. In fact I started to read these HP books just to entertain my children. The H/Hr seems to me very much like the relationship between myself and my husband. And I came to know about these shipping things only last year. After HBP, I started to post in this thread. Now i am so much interested in these books myself and I am very eagar to see H/Hr in the end. I think I am boring you too much. So let me stop.
Waiting to read next chapter in your fan fiction. Please update soon.

I've adopted a lot of British writing habits because I mainly read British authors, I suppose. I'm majoring in Secondary Education (with a History focus) and Journalism. smile.gif

The view from my window is breath-taking and really inspiring. That's all I can say about it! smile.gif

Do your children ship H/Hr too? biggrin.gif My mother reads the books with me and she greatly prefers H/Hr to R/Hr and H/G. You're not boring us at all, Lupin123! I think it's wonderful that you and your husband have built such a strong Harry-and-Hermione-ish relationship! I would not wish a R/Hr bickering relationship or an H/G shallow relationship on anyone unsure.gif

* * * *

And back to the topic at hand, Harry and Hermione smile.gif

I found a quote the other day that really opened my eyes, concerning our favorite couple. If you remember one of JK Rowling's old interviews, she called Harry and Hermione "very platonic." So, to this quote, "Platonic love is LOVE from the neck up." Other places call "platonic love" the highest and purest form, and - get this - it CAN be romantic!

Pets are another thing to consider (found this on Portkey). Typically, witches and wizards have "familiars" - animals that sort of mirror their personality and desires. For the purposes of this argument, I'll argue that Hedwig, Crookshanks, Pig, and Arnold are the "familiars" of Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Ginny. How could they mirror their owner's personalities and romantic desires?

QUOTE
I am also a firm believer in the pets (Familiars) representing, their owner, and or owner's interests theory. I think Sienna's Essay Sirius Black: Psychopomp and Guardian addresses this theory quite well. I think this line of reasoning is not really a stretch. Animals are very possessive, and they mark their territory. They also are good judges of character. Remember the scene in 'There's Something About Mary' when Magda comments on how she can tell if a man is no good, because Puffy will bark his Head off (All right the word wasn't head, but you get the idea) Familiars are a part of Witch's Lore, and are said to be spies for the witch or wizard they serve. Even able to carry out tasks and dirty work for their masters.

Harry even comments about Crookshanks representing Hermione in GoF.

QUOTE
What about Crookshanks? He, according to JKR, is a very intelligent cat...there is more to him than just being a cat. And he represents Hermione's interests. Remember how he went after Ron's pet Scabbers and got along with the big black dog in PoA. He saw what no one else could: Scabbers/Pettigrew and Padfoot/Sirius were both in disguise. We and the trip assumed that one was good and the other bad until proven the reverse. Crookshanks knew all along who was what (representative of Hermione's insight?) So, what about Ginny's little puffball pet? Crookshanks is "after" it now, too. Do you think it means anything?
Crookshanks is a brilliant little cat and a marvellous invention of JKR's, especially because he's been proven to know right from wrong and good from bad. He also follows Hermione's interests... which is what leads me onto a H/Hr moment, of sorts.

What is Crookshanks's reaction to:
1) Ron + Wormtail/Scabbers/Peter?
2) Ginny + Arnold the puffskein?
3) Harry + Padfoot/Snuffles/Sirius?

1 = not good/tolerance + wants to kill
2 = indifferent/tolerance + wants to kill
3 = purrs contentedly + follows around, helps out, etc.

"Coincidence, or something more... sinister?"

Seriously, look at the cat's reactions to all the characters that Hermione and Crookshanks interact with, and I think we might all be a bit surprised...

You're right, jonclift, Crookshanks really loves Harry. He curls up on Harry's lap and starts purring the minute he sees Harry arrive at the Burrow in HBP, and stays there until Harry goes to bed. He sure doesn't curl up and purr on Ron's lap, that's for sure.

Let's get this straight: Hedwig helps Hermione (sending letters for her) and seeks Hermione out (in France to bring Harry a present, etc.) and has no interactions with Ginny. Crookshanks acts Hermionish, furthers the plot in PoA, and loves Harry (not Ron). Arnold is cute and fluffy and ultimately useless to Harry (Ginny, anyone?)

What do you think?

AQHYAgrl
Wow, that is really good. I can't beleive this is the first time I've seen that observation pointed out. That is totally logical and sounds like something JK would do as part of her whole "read between the lines" thing.

Herminia, my screen name is for the association I'm in a love very much. It's the American Quarter Horse Youth Association.
Herminia
I thought of this immediately upon finishing HBP, but finally found someone on Portkey who had taken the time to spell it out:

QUOTE
The train began to move. Harry saw the boy's mother waving and their sister, half laughing, half crying, running to keep up with the train until it gathered too much speed; then she fell back and waved.
Harry watched the girl and her mother disappear as the train rounded the corner. Houses flashed past the window. Harry felt a great leap of excitement. He didn't know what he was going to - but it had to be better than what he was leaving behind.

Ginny tries to catch the train (with Harry), but she has no change. Still, she tries - tries against every evidence, before she finally has to give up. Half crying, half laughing, she lets the train go ...
In HBP Ginny let Harry go, half laughing, but close to tears.
She had to try, but now she knows know that there is no change ...

The train scene foreshadows the break-up scene in HBP!
There is no way that this scene foreshadows H/G as something else as it is in HBP - not if you read the full scene!

Certain people should especially read the last sentence:
He didn't know what he was going to - but it had to be better than what he was leaving behind.

Harry thinks this right after Ginny has disappeared.
In HBP Harry and Ginny get thogether and break up. The next girl is going to be better than Ginny, the girl he leaves behind.

I wrote a one-shot fan fic about Ginny and Harry's failing marriage (with allusions to H/Hr). It's not my usual style at all. It's very "skin and bones" but that fits the atmosphere of the household a little better, I think. Here's the link:

Er... I don't really know where to start. I enjoyed the essay (despite it's length) and thought it very provoking of ideas. Kudos to whoever posted it! wink.gif

Someone made the comment about delusional. I like to point out that we all are, aren't we, if we keep coming back for more with no guarantee of our ship? So I'm proud to stand up and be delusional with anyone else here!

Herminia: I liked the things on the pet relations and ending of Half-Blood Prince mirroring the first book. I agree absolutely!

Further comments on Harry and Hermione: none that I can think of at the moment. I'm trying not to keel over at the computer for the moment. The bed beckons... sleep.gif

Two more things: One is that, given how everyone wants to know a bit more about the supporters here, I'll chime in as well. I'm not out of school yet (college starts for me in a year), but I look forward to continuing my education. And, like Herminia, I've taken somewhat to British literature; the way I spell words drive my teachers insane (like 'realise' instead of 'realize' and 'favour' to 'favor'). I started into Harry Potter as a eleventh birthday present (what a coincidence!), and I have ever since felt a connection to Harry personally (hence my name on the forum). And I had been indifferent to shipping in Harry Potter until I visited Veritaserum a little over a year ago. That changed my preconcieved notions from Ron and Hermione to Harry and Hermione. And I have been loyal ever since! biggrin.gif

As to my second topic (more of a question):
Does anyone know who is directing Order of the Phoenix? I'm hoping it's not Mike Newell again (he's not bad, but not great either).

Good night all! (or more along the lines of 'Good morning!') happy.gif

Hai Herminia
I have read the essay about pet animals. I have been at portkey but I never noticed this essay. Very interesting. When Harry got the smell of perfume at burrow, he was watching at Crookshanks. Does this mean anything?
AQHYAgrl
I'm in a bit of a hurry so I'm just going to post this quick question that I was pondering last night:

(Not that his could/would ever happen, but seeing as how the movies are chalk full off H/Hr....)

Would you be satisfied if H/Hr happened in the movies but not the books?

I'm out for the day, talk to ya'll later!

Edit: PS, Herminia, I've just finished the last chapter and I wanted to tell you that, 1. you need to update! haha and 2. I'm going to leave reveiws on each chapter when I get home tonight. I didn't want you to think I wasn't going to reveiw!! biggrin.gif As good as the story was, I almost regret reading it because I'm addicted to fan fics now! ha ha!
Louise
I don't think it's very likely, unfortunately, but speaking totally personally, yes, I wouldn't mind at all smile.gif

Even other shippers seem to acknowledge that the movies are very H/Hr orientated so I don't think it's totally without the realms of possibility and the scriptwriters have certainly made changes before. This would be a pretty big one to make though...and all that being said, I don't think ships are really essential to the storyline so it's completely possible that they won't include any ships at all. Maybe as a little light relief here or there, but I don't think there's going to be a huge love scene or anything like that between *any* of the characters, canon or otherwise.

But hey, when some of the fanfics I've read are better than the canon in some cases, who needs canon, right? wink.gif

(well...maybe just a little bit...but only the good bits...tongue.gif)

David Yates, I do believe! The screenwriter isn't Kloves for this one either, so we'll see how that affects the way the story is portrayed on screen.

That was amazing! That was the best H/Hr video I've ever seen. I love how it had an actual story line to it. I mean, every word of the song matched up with the images of Hermione being angry and frustrated or showing the good times she had with Harry. It was really really sad actually, I almost cried! You are really talented! I can't believe how good that was, seriously. You should sent it to Veritaserum for them to add on their list of videos. I'm going to watch it again!! I saw the question earlier about If H/Hr happened in the movies but not the books, would you be satisfied? I honestly don't know. I think I might be, if it was portrayed well, but I still wouldn't be completely happy because JK refuses to open her eyes too the hints she herself wrote smile.gif oh well. Lupin123
Hai Hermyohnee,
My pc is an old one and I could not view your videos properly. Interuptions are more, any how I have viewed it. They are very good.
Hai Herminia,
Thanks for updating your fan fictin.I have completed "emma" and my hopes are stronger than before that it is surely H/Hr is going to happen in the end. Like emma, Harry also failed to understand his own feelings for Hermione. ( In emma's case it is Mr.Knightley) Emma also used to think about Mr.Knightley when he was not in person with her.She admired him as handsome in a party without her knowledge, like Harry did in the Yule ball. She also worried about his safety, like Harry did in DoM. If really JKR wanted to write in Jane Austen's style then it is very sure it is H/Hr. Let us see.
Herminia
Ron and Hermione are a very Mr. Darcey/Elizabeth pairing with their petty squabbling and vocalized criticisms of each other, but I find Emma and Mr. Knightley a pairing much more to my liking. They are by and far the "best" characters in Emma and are only worthy of each other...like Harry and Hermione! Thanks for pointing out the parallels about the Ball and safety and things. If she follows Austen's mold at all, she has to make it H/Hr!
AQHYAgrl
Just a quick note, Emma is also a movie for those of you who might not have known, so if you don't want to read the whole book, get the movie. It's really fantastic. It has always been a favorite of mine.

I agree that if you don't have the time to read EMMA anytime soon, then rent the video. For those of you who want to read the book, I want to remind you that it was written in the 1820's-30's and sometimes it is a little difficult to follow. Well, it is for me anyway. English grammar was a teeny bit different back then. And yes, English is my primary language.

My copy of Jane Austen's, EMMA, is on my coffee table. I can't seem to put a dent in it. Maybe I should follow my own advice and go rent the video! wink.gif
Lupin123
Hai H/Hr Shippers,
I don't know whether this post is off topic or not, but I could not resist myself to write this. Please see the situation in which Harriet (emma's close friend) declared that she is in love with Mr.Knightley.
"Harriet" cried Emma collecting herself resolutely "Let us understand each other now, without the possibility of farther mistake. Are you speaking of ....Mr.Knightley?"
(Text)
"Have you any idea of Mr.Knightley's returning your affection?"
"Yes" replied Harriet modestly but not fearfully "I must say that I have" (Text)
She(emma) touched she admitted she acknowledged the whole truth. Why was it so much worse that Harriet should be in love with Mr.Knightley than with Frank(he is the person emma misunderstood that she was in love with him earlier)Why was the evil so dreadfully increased by Harriet's having some hope of a return? It darted through her with the speed of an arrow that Mr.Knightley must marry no one but herself.
Her own conduct as well as her own heart was before her in the same few minutes.

Don't you feel Harry had this same type feeling when he witnessed the conversation between R/Hr in the Herbology class. He himself didn't know how he felt about it. I am very much eagar to see such a situation between him and Ron in book 7 and want to hear Harry's realisation of his own feelings.
Though Jane may be JKR's favourite author, I love HP books more than emma. Except the twist in the end there was nothing so special in Emma, I think. Apart from these shipping aspects we have more interesting matters in HP books. JKR's writing style is somewhat great.
AQHYAgrl
This is way off topic but my favorite part in Emma is when Harriet gets the letter and all... that is too funny!!

I'm going to add to this post later and discuss Lupin's post, which was very good. smile.gif

I simply love their interaction, how they enrich each other making the other grow, how they care for each other, how they marvelously combine heart and reason, cleverness and bravery, and I too like the friendship becoming lovers thing. I would also love for the hero to end up with a girl who is not super hot and popular. I love the insecurities and flaws of both characters.

This is from the HMS Harmony forums, and it's one of the reasons I love Harry and Hermione as a couple. Harry and Hermione have a history of partnership and mutual trust that no one else can BEGIN to compare to. To put them -- permanently -- with anyone else would be a cop-out ending in my opinion.
HermionePotter06
Okay, I know this is slightly off topic, but what the heck dose HMS stand for? I've tried thinking it out but I'm just not that smart!

Okay, I know this is slightly off topic, but what the heck dose HMS stand for? I've tried thinking it out but I'm just not that smart!

HMS is a ship. Well not a ship, but ships in general. Like, real ship, that float in the water. But special ship, the Majesty's ship. Basically, a ship that no one will abandon. That's why we say HMS Harmony... it means we ship (HMS) Harmony (H/Hr) and not only do we ship it, but we won't abandon it because it's special. Get it? (A real example would be the HMS Titanic, which was a real ship) Sorry if I further confused you.

Woot! I actually understand something! It's like an epiphany or something! Now I feel smart. smile.gif

I believe H.M.S. stands for Her Majesty’s Ship. It is often used to put in front of British ship names just like American ships have U.S.S. (United States Ship).

Enjoy the waves! Harry and Hermione will sail off into the sunset in Book 7! cool.gif

I as actually reading this book (Exploring Harry Potter by Elizabeth Schafer) and I came across an interesting bit of mythology. (My friend Megan would understand this much more than I) There was a Hermione in... some ancient mythology that I can't remember now... but anyways she first dated one man who she thought she loved and then realized she was in love with another man. So hopefully HMS Harmony won't drown. Does anyone know why some people call the H/Hr ship HMS Pumpkin Pie? I've never understood that.

This was extracted from the portkey.com forums. Enjoy!

The Tale of the HMS Pumpkin Pie

Once upon a time, there was a writer and H/H shipper named Cassandra Claire. She was in the middle of writing the fourth chapter of a story called Draco Veritas. And, being the good, H/H shipper she is, decided to post a snippet of an H/H snog on to this board. Her snog was angsty and steamy and made many of us blush.

It also kicked our muses into high gear. A call was heard all 'round the great ship H/H (as it was then known) for snoglets of any type involving our two heroes.

Many people posted and there was one (by Narri) in which our hero, Harry, coming from a feast, tasted like pumpkin pie. No one is sure why this particular tidbit or turn of phrase caught on, but it did, sweeping through the ship like pink-eye in an elementary school.

Many, *many,* of the snoglets that followed described Harry as tasting like pumpkin pie. There were even whole ficlets built around our two heroes and pumpkin pie.

In short, pumpkin pie became our unofficial mascot, until one day, after many snogs and ficlets, someone said, "Let us forthwith be called the HMS Pumpkin Pie."

And, that, my friends, is the story of the great ship, HMS Pumpkin Pie.

That's... intersting, to say the least. Funny name though. Why not pumpkin juice? Or cider? Or.... the list goes on... ah well at least I am no longer in the dark about these thing.
May the Great Ship HMS Harmony/Pumpkin Pie Forever Sail The Fanon (And Canon) Waters! ~!HermionePotter06!~

I thought this was too cool. This is in response to HermionePotter06’s mention of Hermione in mythology.

Daughter of Helen of Troy and king Menelaus of Sparta. She married Achilles son Neoptolemus, but when Orestes killed him in a fight over her (she was originally engaged to him) she became his wife in stead. Together they had the son Tisamenus, who was to rule in Mycenae.

Does this possibly mean that Ron may be killed in Book 7, then Harry and Hermione get together? ohmy.gif J.K. Rowling is so slick.
HermionePotter06
That's exactly what I thought! And, however many people this may upset, I think it is important for Ron to die. *gasp!* If Ron dies, then we who sail the beloved HMS Harmony can really expect to see some H/Hr action!
And I don't like Ron anyways. tongue.gif
HermionePotter06
And as I'm re-reading your post, it would make sense! The son (Hermione and whats-his-names) is to rule! Techinically, if Harry defeats Voldemort, it would be like his son is to rule! A little bit, anyways. He would be really popular! Oh, I'm good!
HermionePotter06
Okay, re-read your post again, and I just got to thinking. That says that whats-his-name that Hermione married killed her fiancee. Does that mean that Harry will kill Ron???

Oooh, this is intense. smile.gif
HermionePotter06
It's gonna feel like a conspiracy theory when no one replies and tells me what they think..... I'm plotting to kill Ron *gasp!* smile.gif
TerranOvermind
I doubt that J.K. Rowling would have Harry kill Ron. That would take too much from the mythology and someone may accuse her of plagiarism of sorts. Not to mention that they’re best friends!

I have a theory regarding this and the ending of Book 7. Voldemort used Harry’s blood in his regeneration so that he could overcome his mother’s love protection. What if Ron sacrifices himself to save Harry from a Avada Kadavra curse and instills new protection on Harry? Having destroyed all the horcruxes, when Voldemort tries to kill Harry again, it rebounds and actually kills Voldemort this time!

Many have similar theories, but most involve Ginny doing it.
HermionePotter06
I din't actually believe that, I just posted to see what you though smile.gif That is actually an incredibly believable theory, compared to some of the stuff I've read.
Ron or Ginny would be happy to do this for Harry. Ginny because, well, she loves him, and Ron because they'er best mates. Both would create an amazing force that could repel Voldy. I honestly don't know who would aactually do this though. Preferably Ron, because then, as Ron and Hermione are dating, Hermione would need someone's shoulder to cry on. *cue Harry!*

Harry has to be Hermione's crying shoulder, then Hermione (and JK) will realize her stupidity (not saying that JK is stupid, she's brilliant, but she made the wrong shipping choices) and go running to Harry! My scheme is brilliant! Brilliant, I tell you! *evil laugh* They shall be together in no time.... Mwahahaha!

HermionePotter06, there is an edit button if you look at the top right corner of your posts, you can click that and add to your post if you have new ideas so that you don't have a post a bunch of little ones.

In regards to what you said (quoted above) about Ginny dying willingly for Harry, I strongly disagree. Ginny is selfish and cares too much what people thing about her and being popular to give herself for Harry. I don't beleive for one second she would even consider it. She is a very shallow character, so no, I don't think she will (or want to) do that. I do think Ron would do it though. I don't want to see him die, but if it has to be done, better him than Harry.
HermionePotter06
Hmmm... I must take all of this into considereation...
But she's liked him since her first year! Earlier than that really! Hmmm.... And sorry about the multiple posts, smile.gif
However Rough the Waters May Be, May the GReat and Beloved Ship HMS Harmony/Pumpkin Pie Sail The Waters of Canon And Fanon Forever!!!
