If Quirrell and Snape fought in book one who would win? Both are powerful wizards. Quirrell only pretends to be frightened by alot of things so people don';t suspect him to be evil. But I think Quirrell really was afraid of Snape. If he really was stronger than Snape wouldn't he have just finished Snape off in the Forbidden Forest? Unless he thought there was to much at risk for him to chance a fight, for he might lose. But at the Quidditch match Quirrell nearly had Harry off his broom, even with Snape trying to keep Harry on the broom, which suggests that Quirrell is stronger than Snape. Who do you think would win if they fought?
For now I'm leaning towards Quirrell and he only didn't kill Snape in the Forest because he wasn't entirely sure he could defeat Snape.
I won't vote until I hear other people's opinions, though.

If I was a gambling man like Ludo Bagman, I would totally put my money on Snape. I think Snape is a really powerful wizard and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Snape would win this fight hands down. After reading HBP, you can't deny his genius with a wand. He just makes up all these amazing spells (even though some are less than reputeable).
It wouldn't even be a fair fight.

I think Snape would definitely win a fight with Quirrell....he's just so brilliant, with all that experience and knowledge he has for dark magic...all those dark spells he made up when he was only a teenager

....yeah, Snape would definitely beat Quirrell anytime...he probably knows a lot more about dark spells than Quirrell does...and even if he didn't, he certainly knows how to defend himself just as well...

quirrel would have won... only for the fact that he had voldemort in the backj of his head and he was like posssed by him... but snape obviously is a stronger and by much wizard

^ Yeah, but did having Voldemort possessing him actually make him stronger? I'd say it made him, if anything, weaker. It weakened Snake's enough that soom they died, it'd take a really long time but eventually wouldn't Quirrell die, too? He must have been getting weaker every day.

Yeah, I always thought Quirrel was pretty weak. Snape is probably one of the best wizards around. I'm highly confident that Snape would win- he knows Occlumency and all that wonderful stuff, after all.

Snape would deffinatly win. He created his own spells for goodness sake. The man has got what it takes and if someone that knows as much as he knows, then that leaves very few wizards that meet his standards.

I also think that Snape would've won the fight. I think that Quirrel was pretty weak, not to mention pathetic. Even with Voldemort growing out of his head, he wasn't that strong because he didn't have Voldemorts powers. Snape is a very powerfull wizard we should not underestimate his powers, he might be even stronger than we think he is.

I think Severus Snape would defeat Quirrell in a wizard's duel because:
- Quirrell was book-smart in the Dark Arts, Severus is a practicioner of sorcery.
- Quirrell is distracted by his greed for the stone and sharing his soul with Voldemort.
- Snape has more guts considering the end of HBP, while Quirrell couldn't kill an eleven year-old.
So I believe Snape could beat Quirrell as he is more experienced in Dark magic and is more composed than his would-be opponent.

heh heh heh

No contest! Dear Severus would whoop Quirrell into next week...I don't think there's even a contest after his brilliant sorting out of Lockheart in CoS and...well...we've all read HBP

I'm going to overlook the fact that Harry bested him in PoA....the poor guy was caught off guard

He certainly sorted him out in HBP too, so he redeemed himself.

I very much doubt that Quirrell would even have time to pull his wand out

I don't really think there is any contest. Snape would easily win. He is a much more powerful wizard. How many teenagers can invent spells, especially ones those powerful. And his fight with Harry at the end on book 6 just showed how powerful a wizard he really is.

Surely not Quirrell. He was not a powerful wizard, I think he was really weak and he let LV "possess" him. While Snape's a very powerful wizard and knows very well how to use a wand (and the most important: his head) as we saw in HBP.

woah! that's a tricky one...very interesting question.
lupin was the DADA professor and must be kinda strong but i've got a hunch that snape would've won as he was a death eater and knew more dark magic then lupin did.

Snape of course! Snape's way more powerful then Quirell and has a lot more chance of winning. lol

If I had to put my money on one of the two winning,I would definitely choose Snape cos he is the type that takes no nonsense!
I am surprised that people are actually saying that Quirrell would win!

I think thats a pretty weird thing to considering how far snape will actually go...
But its everyones choice! But I still think that Snape will definitely beat Quirrell...

Is this even a serious question?

. Snape would win against Quirell in his most weakened state. Quirrell wouldn't stand a chance. Snape is not only more cunning and devious but a far more powerful wizard than anyone gives him credit for.

I'd have to say Snape. Quirrel looks weaker, and pretends to be scared and st-st-stuttery but having Voldemort in him, probably weakened him because voldemort was using him for strength.

Quirrell isn't powerful, he was only powerful because Voldemort was on the back of his head. Snape would win, definately. Snape is probably powerful than many wizards.

So why was Quirrel's curse on Harry;s broom more powerful than Snape's counter curse? Is Quirrel just better at that certain curse than Snape is or what?
And Voldemort possessing Quirrel would make Quirrel
weaker not stronger. Voldemort is killing Quirrel from the inside out, just like he kileld the snake's that he possessed.

between Snape and Quirrell i would say Snape all the way because first of all snape is a better wizard and then quirrell is just a moron i never liked him snape is awesome besides what he did to Dumbledore

Snape could take Quirrell any time, any place. He's an incredible potion-making, awesome with a wand, plus he's got his occulamacy.
Also, it should be noted that Snape would never have been dumb enough to let Voldemort live in his head.

Hmm. Had to go with Snape on this one.
Wayyy more powerful.
Quirrell is just um .. not as strong as Snape.

Definately snape, He's a lot stronger than Quirell. Quirell wouldn't stand a chance, he's werid and truely scared of snape. I think snape's got a lot more to him, and has much more courage.

Snape will surley win. Quirrell is nothing without Voldy. Snapes much much more powerful than he is so...Quirrell will surely be gone before Snape even says Bloody Hell.

I think Snape would win because he knows more deadly spells and Quirrel was strong only because of Voldemort "sticking out the back of his head".

Personally I find this one a little obvious. It would totally be Snape. He has a vicious anger that could dominate anybody. And Quirrell was only strong because Voldemort was with him. Without Voldemort, Quirrell would be incredibly weak.

I agree. I think Snape would win the duel. He's a lot better of with his wand. He is the Half Blood Prince and made up all those spells.

quirrell has no hope. snape was a much more powerful wizard than quirrell. although quirell did have voldemort attached to him, voldy couldnt do anything, just talk.

Quirrell would not have had a chance against Snape in book 1
Even with voldermort sharing his body.
Quirrell has been wrote about as a mediocre wizard with not much talent
But then again Snape says that about Harry and look how well he is getting on as DADA
Nah Snape would definately win

I would say snape. He is very powerful. He is great at DADA. Dumbledore holds him at high standards and says he is a good wizard and i agree with him. I think he is very talented. I don't think Quirrell would stand a chance.

I'd definitely have to say Snape, he is so powerful and he knows a slight bit to much about the Dark Arts and all those spells, so Snape has got my vote and forever.

thats an easy one. snape would win full stop. you dont even need to think about ti. quirrel is week and scared of snape. although i suppose snape would know that voldemorts using quirrels body........anyway if they fought snape would win

This is a very very obvious question. snape would win but i don't think quirrel is as rubbish at magic as everyone thinks, he still got the job at hogwarts and managed to fool evrybody, especially about the eyes on the back of the head thing.
oh quirrel might win if snape was hanging upside down with no wand and a custard pie on his face
or if snape suddenly develped 'woman parts' and was so enraptured by his new found femininity that he forgot to duck
Or if snape turned himself into a duck
i should stop now...

snape would definatly win...
because quirrels dead.
you have to be pretty talented if your dead to beat a living person.

I think that Snape would have won , hands down . Though it says Quriell was a powerful wizard it dosn't really give much proof of that in the books . Snape has proven his power various times . And .. Qurriell's now dead ...so yeah know

I think Snape would pwn Quirrel. He's a very powerful wizard, and I don't think Quirrel would have the strength to beat him.

smart money on snape!!!i would choose snape although i really like to go against the odds but he is a great wizard and i don't thibk that voldie would help quirrel in aduel!!!!!

I'm sorry but it has to be Snape.
Like it is said but somebody i'm not sure who.
But Quirrel is a medi core wizard even at the end even when he wasn't stuttering i am sure that he wasn't as strong. Snape invented Sectumsempra so that is powerful on it's own.

Snape is stronger, in the very first post someone said that Quirrell is stronger beacause he almost had harry of his broom, but do not forget Voldermort was in Quirells body, he could helped him. So then it wasn't Quirell alone who tried to get Harry killed. Snape stoped Quirell and maybe also Voldermort, that shows us how strong Snape is.
voldemort-is-awesome
Jan 22 2007, 05:18 AM
snape would DEFINITELY win. he would beat almost anyone. (obviously not Voldy and Dumby) i mean, of course, he did kill dumby, but that wasn't so much about his strength as a wizard, dumby was dying already. other than those two, i can't think of anyone who could beat snape. maybe mcgonagall.

Let's see...
Snape killed arguably the most powerful wizard.... he has to be stronger...
I think quirrel is ambisious, but rather dull-witted, i mean, he let Voldy surgecally attack him to Quirrells head....

No contest. I think Snape would win, no doubt. He is powerful and educated and experienced in dark magic and spells, not to mention potions and other branches of magic. I have always thought of Quirrrel as weak. Voldemort possessed him and used him. . .he failed to get the stone, and he was abandoned and died (as Voldemort tells us).
