I would like to say that the most powerful magical being is a dragon or a pheonix but I can't because witches and wizards are. Wizards are the most powerful because of the fact that they control to some extent all other magical beings. There are a lot of witches and wizards compared to other magical beings as well.

Dragons and Witches/Wizards are the most powerful beings, because witches and wizards have controll over all the magical creatures, but dragons don't really have bondries and they are really powerful.

I've put other because I think that each and everyone of them has some hability to be proud of; and shouldn't be compared, specially taking into account that most of them are fantastic creatures and we have little information about their characteristics and skills...

I choose Wizards. But of course it does depend on the wizard. Some yes are very powerful and others your like what the heck?? Who are they?? They did what?? I do believe that some wizards may believe that they are powerful wizards like Lucius for example, no he isn't a powerful wizard but he is a great wizard. Wizards are able to control other creatures, when other creatures can't. Wizards can even control other Wizards yet they do have their weakness I guess we have to remember that. What I said may not make any sense but I understand what I said. I'm sorry if you don't understand.

Even tought some creatures are very powerful, such like dragons or trolls, wizards are much more powerful! They're humans, so they're much more sarter and have a wand, wich can do more than a creature, that has only one or two specific power(s).

Wizards because they have a wand to destroy stuff with and to help mend stuff and wat not

Wizards. Most creatures have one or two magic skills. Wizars can do a lot of things with their wands. So they are the most powerful.

Well, Generaly we would all think Human/Witchs/Wizards. But Each Race has there special power and ability. So it would be un-predictable to see which race is the best. But to me proubly a Witch or a Wizard is proubly the most strongest yet powerful race. As they have wands and have the magic ability to do what ever please's them, I deffiniatly think that the Human/Wizard/Witch race is proubly the most thoughtful knowable race.

Each race has its strengths but, I believe the most powerful would probably be wizards. Wizards can perform magic that can allow them to do things that all these other races do. For example merpeople can live underwater and we saw in GOF how the champions were able to perform spells and drink potions that allowed them to go underwater for long periods of time.

I voted for dragons, because dragons are really powerful, and because I really like dragons. I also consider phoenixes to be really powerful.
Dragons are more powerful than wizards by far. It is quite clear that if you put a wizard against a dragon, the dragon would almost always win. You need a whole group of wizards to take on a dragon. They are difficult to kill and difficult to hurt.
Besides, why should wizards be the most powerful. Wizards seem to rely heavily on their wands, and what are the cores of those wands? Phoenix feather, dragon heartstring, or unicorn hair. Why should wizards be the most powerful when they seem to rely on the magical properties of other beings to produce their own magic?
Dragons and phoenixes are the most powerful magical beings. Definetely.

Dumbledore!

Haha just kiddin
But really there's no way to say " This is the most..."
Every being has something that the others don't-wizards can do all sorts of magic, but they do not have the power to heal with their tears or give immortality with their blood...

That was tough. I couldn't decide between a wizard or a dragon, but in the end i voted wizard. Now, If there was a question of who was the most powerful wizard, i would put dumbledore. or voldemort. or harry for defeating voldemort. but i think that after harry killed voldemort, harry lost all his powers like parseltounge. Maybe he grew up to become just as powerful as dumbledore or voldemort, what do you think?
LoneWolf
May 6 2008, 11:34 AM
Harry is very powerful for his age and all,but he had a lot of luck and help against Voldemort and he wasn't so dedicated like Dumbledore or Voldy who spent all their life trying to improve their skills...and yeah, after killing the villain,Harry has led a calm and peaceful life-not like the Albus and Tom who spent their lifes in a war...

I voted Dragon, as they are VERY powerful, with their huge tails, sharp teeth, not to mention their amazing fire breathing abilities!
Yes, wizards may be powerful too, but like E. Austen said, it would take a LOT of them to take down a dragon!
Just think of Saphira!

I think That all magical beings or muggles Have equal amounts of powers but are used and come in many different ways. Take House elves for instance they are being slaved( is that a word???) they might not win a dual but if they wanted to they could defend themselves well.Go S.P.E.W!!!!

WIzards have the most control, it seems, of all the creatures there, but I think the most powerful being, overall, is actually the Dementor.
Fear is a very powerful emotion, and the Dementor is just that. There are some wizards that may be able to overcome this fear, but overall the dementor is domineering.

sorry hands down the wzards are more powerful . yes every other option has its magical powers that the other race doesnt have but what other race uses wands that do powerful magic , UNSPEAKABLE powers , thats what i think. & yes the phoenix have wonderful powers too (((:

I voted for wizards because if you look at all the other choices. They can all be beaten and trained by wizards. Howeever, if you look at it in a different light and just look at natural ability. It would not be wizards. You see, witches and wizards require wands to direct their magic, control it, and harness it when they need it. Dragons (for example) do not need another facet to use their magical scales or their fire, etc. So that's another way to look at the question.

phoenix- is more than a magical creature. Do you know where they came from? Are they in the world since it began? that is a question to think about.
that writings below our nicks are ridiculous, because if i have read all books, watched all movies starting seven years ago day by day. i think that i'm loyal to Harry, because i'm 14 now. first five years until sixth book came i didn't have money to buy books, so i walked each day to library and readed those books, nothing else. then i firs bought sixth book, and started to get others. now i have all books and films thar are released. so i think that i'm "facing Voldemort".

All of these races have their own special powers that not all the other races possess. They're all very powerful, but I think the most powerful would be the humans (wizards.) Wizards can over power all of the other races mentioned. If the question was to matching their abilities, others might win over wizards, but for the most part, wizards can handle the other races.

I have to say house-elves, don't really know if there's a full reason behind it, maybe I just think they're cute. There's something about them though that makes me think they can be plenty powerful if they want to be.

I chose wizards, not because I am awed by them but because I think they are the most dangerous of magical creatures. I have the same opinion with humans that of all animals humans are most dangerous because they are capable of far worse things than animals who seek only to survive.
With wizards it seems to be the same principal. Humans keep all animals and all other beings under them, they treat other beings as inferior just as wizards do. Wizards have laws preventing any but wizards from carrying wands for example.
Not all humans and not all wizards are so. Hermione is proof of this when she campaigns for house elves and in humans animal rights campaigners are an example.
One reason why I loathe Umbridge so much - because she is in wizards what I hate in humans, one who sees as all but their race as inferior.

I think it is elves because they can do magic which wizards/witches can't do: Apparating in Hogwarts and the Cave etc etc

I chose other because you can't really say which one is more powerful because of a certain kind of species. They all are powerful in their own way and help each other balance. I see the wizards are thought to be the most powerful just because they have come up with so much technology, I guess you could say, wise. It's just something to think about.

It's hard to say.. I suppose humans are powerful, but take away their wands and they are practically useless.. people don't really have any powers of their own, except for seeing the future and stuff.
I went for dragon, as not only are they very large and physically strong, their blood has many uses, their hide is particularly strong, and other parts have unique magical properties (e.g. their heartstrings are used in wands). They can also breathe fire, fly and claw you to bits so I would say they are the most powerful.
Having said that, phoenixes also have immense powers, as Dumbledore once said himself. They have the power to heal, which is pretty spectacular, and their feathers also have great powers as they are used in wands too. But I would have to go with dragons.

I say house Elf because they have powers wizards even if they don't show it, but a free elf might just show some of it.

I had to go for house elves because they don't need wands to do magic. It seems that Wizards can subdue most of the creatures - trolls, dragons etc. but I haven't yet seen them subdue a phoenix or a house elf. I guess i just went for house elf because we have proof that they can actively use spells from CoS. Pheonix's, although they have many magical properties, i'm not sure they can actually cast spells. But then Fawkes did many things in the books that suggest they can use spells, so I may be wrong. I guess the only vital flaw for house-elves is that most of them are bound to wizards and can't refuse a direct order. Went for house-elves in the end though. Interesting question though, and a real toughy (:

Strange that so many people think humans are powerful.
What humans can do with wands house elves can do without. And also the Phoenix I think is the most powerful(it almost defies death).

I think humans (witches and wizards) and phoenixes are the most powerful beings. I would also definitely put Centaurs, Unicorns, Goblins, and House Elves up there. I gave humans the top spot simply because they can do the most.

...and some more! They can subdue a wizard and cook lunch at the same time (Winky in GoF and Kreacher in DH). Can anybody imagine Snape, Trelawny or even Dumbledore cook?

it depends on what you think powerful means....
I think the centaurs and mer people are extremely powerful because of their wisdom..
witches and wizards are powerful because they can use magic in many ways and some of them (dumbledore) are wize, so taht makes the powerful.
elves are very powerful, just extremely mistreated, but they are very powerful as you can see in the second book when dolby kind of kicks lucius malfoys but when he tries to hurt harry
goblins are powerful but very uncertain on who to trust...they trust mostly other goblins...only one trustes harry in the last book and helps him...
trolls are stupid, so i don't think they can be powerful at all, they just use their strength and not their brains.
and I think the Phoenix is a very smart animal and her tears are very helpful when it comes to treating wounds with venom, however i don't think they would be more powerful than a witch or a wizard.

I would say wizards, because beyond the physical strength some creatures have, the humans have the power to think logically, to feel and to take decisions. If a human is hateful enough (and besides that he has magical powers) he can overcome the physical strength with his mind and he can create weapons which no creature would be capable of conceiving. A wizard can produce chaos and massive destruction (see Voldemort). Of course, the word "powerful" hasn't only a negative meaning. A wizard can change many things in the world in a good way if he has the ambition and the resources to do it.
