just wondering what people thought was the most powerful race.

i personally believe that house elves contain more power than any other race. now we don't know too much about them, but they're able to apprate within the castle. it seems to me that there is a lot of power within them. that and i love Dobby.

Each race has it's own abilities and powers, I don't think you can compare them. Especially when we have so little backround on most of those creatures. I don't know what half of them are capable of.

Actually, if you read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, there is information in there about them.

It really depends on what kind of power you are talking about. I think that Wizards could be, but very few. I am talking about wizards like Dumbledore, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Voldemort, Merlin, etc... Wizards like that are the most powerful beings. But like I said, there are very few.

I think Unicorns, Dragons, and Phoenixes are really powerful. Or maybe it is just those are my favorites.

I was going to say house elves too but then I thought (might be wrong) that they are held in servitude by spells cast upon them by wizards

I don't know,they have different powers so I guess its like trying to guess which is more powerful a human or an elephant - the human has power with intelligence whereas the elephant has power in strength

I think that Wizards are (or at least can be) The most powerful. Because im pretty sure that a wizard can defeat a wizard. Unless of course your Lucius. .

I think that wizards can be the most powerful, but only very accomplished wizards. I completely agree there!

I also think that phoenixs, dragons, and unicorns are also very powerful. (Unicorns- blood, dragon- heart strings, battling abilities, phoenix- tears and feathers)

My vote was hard, but it had to be Dragons of course. Because of course they can fly, the can breathe fire, and their scale is super super tough. While the only benefit humans have are wands, though it takes six or seven wizards to sucessfully stun one.

I voted far humans because they can do almost anything if they have a wand in their hand which almost all of them have. House elves can also do magic just like humans but they generally listen to whatever humans say.

I would have to agree with Salazaar and say dragons too because if you read in the 4th book they were very hard to contain and keep under ones control. They also breathe fire and have a tail for hitting people.

I believe that there is a being in this series whose presence and power are manifested literally everywhere but whose true identity will not be revealed until the end. The irony is that we've already been told -- subtly -- who it is repeatedly, but because he does not come across as superficially magnificent or glorious, and because he is known by more than one name, readers are prone to mistaking other characters for him, such as Dumbledore or even Harry.

i think wizards are most powerful. they have their wands and a if i'm not much mistaken they could also do maginc without a wand, just that it's more difficult... none of the other 'creatures' can do as much as wizards... house elves have to serve wizards, there's a charm on them, and none of the other ones can do magic.... house elves can. i dunno if goblins could do magic with a wand, but the wizards definitely are more powerful than they are or they would have won the wars...

Ok, I was just going to vote and neglect the commentary, but, (now that I've seen I am the only one that voted for the phoenix) I feel that I should explain myself.

The phoenix is an extremely powerful magical being. Here are some reasons to demonstrate this:

1. they can fly (without a broom, etc.)
2. they can lift an enormous amount of weight with their tails during flight
3. their tears have healing properties
4. its song gives strength and hope to those it sings for... encouragement is a powerful thing
5. it can swallow curses that would kill anyone/anything else, but it becomes reborn instead of dying
6. it is immortal! It can never die, it is simply reborn.

Seems pretty powerful to me. I just think that the phoenix is a truly remarkable creature, and, by far, the most powerful of all the aforementioned choices.

Well it was a toss up between wizards and dragons. I ultimatly decided on wizards because dragons can always be stunned. I think that every race has their own strong points that can beat another's weaknesses, so its not always a clear choice on whose more powerful.

Wizards can control most of those creatures. I mean they have spells to fight them off. Hous elves have their own kind of magic, but they don't even seem like they care if they are the most powerful being. So I said wizards. I mean their are some really powerful wizards.

While I agree with Lily Potter about Phoenix's they don't really have an offense so I had to dismiss them. That left me going between Wizard's and House Elve's. I don't think that we have seen all there is to house elves, though I have a feeling we will see far more of what they can do in the final book. Even though house elves live a life of service that is not saying they are weak. They choose that. Without batting an eye Dobby was able to put a death eater on his rear after all. Imagine if the house elves really sarted to cut loose. I think we will be surprised at just how powerful they are in the final book.

Well... I chose other, because I don't think it is the being that is powerful, it is the force inside that being, bravery, friendship, good nature, love, communication. I mean Harry is not that powerful is he, Voldemort is way more powerful that him. But it is the force that Harry has inside him that makes him more powerful.

It's an interesting question I voted for Phoenix because of their healing powers and rebirth, but unicorn blood can make the drinker immortal. House elves seem to have all the powers of wizards and when Dobby attacked Lucius Malfoy, a powerful wizard, Lucius stood no chance. Wizards however vary in power so it is difficult.

I reckon humans are capable of the most powerful magic. But centuers and merpeople are known for their incredible intelligence and being pheonixs are immortal - which makes them all pretty powerful

the most powerful being i would have to say witches and wizards because thye could fly (brooms) they got potions, spells, hexes, curses, they just about got everything to be the most powerful being. that is why i picked witches and wizards.

I say Humans(Wizards) because they can practically do anything. A Drinker cant be immortal forever from Unicorn blood can they? Like there is always a way to kill them.

Ahh this if a little bit of a pickle! Like some people have said they all have some atributes which make them unique and more powerful I but would have to go for Humans(Wizards) .They are always learning new things...correct me if im wrong but there isn't such a thing as a mere peoples school is there. Trolls are stupid but apart from strength, they are useless,a lot of the othere things listed are quite rare anyway like dragons but they can do A LOT! of damage in large numbers. And house elves are so used to serving that it is rare for them to go against their masters. Yes Kreater disobayed Harry but he obayed Bellatrix didnt he. Phoenixs I suppose have the advantage to come back to life after dying and their tears have healing powers so they are pretty powerful in that sense. But Wizards are quite poweful i mean take Voldemort for example, he had power to not only collect human followers but even other creatures like Were Wolves. But if Humans were to be out numbered by one of the other creatures like Dragons of Centurs then obviously humans wouldn't win. It all depends on numbers. I like what James Pickles said about bravery being much more than power after all it is true. Harry has escaped Voldemort a numerous amount of times and he probably doesnt know half the spells Voldemort does.

I believe that humans (wizards) are the more powerful race in the magical world. Though I think the house elfs and the phoenixs come really close to wizards. To explian, yes house elfs need no wand and can apperate in Hogwarts, but they can be put into slaveryby wizards. Then there is the phoenix, yes they are rebourn after death and there tears have heeling powers, but so do the wizards and witches at St. Mungos. As for rebirth after death can't Voldy do that? And we see the phoenix serving wizards as well. So from what I see is it obvious that wizards are more powerful. Now we look at wizards, they learn more as they go. There are schools to teach and wizards are always learning more.

power is a very broad term. to you mean the abilities, or the desire? wizards have the desire to be the most " powerful", but that doesnt mean that they couldnt be overthrown by the other species if they wanted to. i think that dragons, phoenix's, and house elfs all have the ability to take over from wizards if they wanted to.

All these groups of magical creatures/people have all got there own type of magic.

If they all work together like Dumbledore wants them too then you have an extremely magical group.

Not sure. I have had inklings about House-elves and Humans, but I am not sure exactly. They are both the leaders of magic, controlled at least, but they couldn't be that good without help from other magical entities such sa Phoenixes and Dragons. Humans are only stronger because they have knowledge. Sorry to say, but because of wizards in general, house-elves do not have the knowledge they need to become powerful.

For as we know, with great knowledge comes power, and with power comes responsibility .

mainly, i think wizards are the most powerfull race, but you left other really amazing creatures out of the poll, por instance:
Dementors are the foulest creatures there are.
Sphinx is a very strong, very smart creature.
Dragons and Phoenixes (altough you mentioned them) are almost unvulnerable to spells, and both are strong and fast.

I'm not sure, because all those things could kill you, but I guess people are the most dangerous because we can make chocies based on other things than instict.

I think that physically the giants / dragons are the most powerful , but for more , mentally let's say , like making decisions and government and stuff it would be wizards, since there is so many of them .

I think wizards are definetly the most powerful beings their magic can tame any of those animals, even thugh some creatures such as dragons are resistent to magic they are still tamed by wizards as we saw in GoF, but if all the creatures combined their strength against the wizards the wizards would no doubt be defeated.

mmmmmm... that is a tough one because all of them have their different strengths and weaknesses. The animals are very magical, but in different ways, example: pheonixs' cannot die, thay have healing tears, can carry heavy loads and are very loyal. The Dragons are more physical strength, they fly, breath fire, big, anf nobody wants to mess with them. Centaurs are creatures that can tell the future and are very exclusive. Those are the main ones that I can think of right now, but it is a tough pick!

I chose the phoenix as being the most powerful being in the harry potter world. They can not die, they are always reborn, and they possess intelligence and abilities beyond our understanding. I think these abilities will be seen more in the last book...maybe not as a main theme, but as a fluffy stuff scene...

I voted Humans. I would’ve voted Centaurs because they’re offende easily and have “near human intelligence” so they are basically humane. I didn’t choose them because they are “ruddy star-gazers”. I remember in book one they wouldn’t stop saying “Mars is awfully bright tonight”. Were they making a prediction or just being stupid? Centaurs aren’t very dependable – except for Firenze the common mule.

I think that humans(wizards) are the most powerful. When I look down that list it seems that humans can beat them all of them in a confrontation, (at least the most powerful ones). House elves serve humans. Dragons although are powerful, can be caged or trapped. Centaurs, and other creatures aren't as strong as the humans in my opinion either, because they don't have many casting abilities.

I generally believe that the phoniex is the powerfullest.

I mean yes Dragons, trolls and giants possess more brutality and Wizards centuars and House elfs are clever.

But i believe the Phoniex contains near Human inteeligence witout speech. And it's specual gifts such as tears of Healing and it's ability to carry immensly heavy loads are amazing. But the thing that stands out is that it can reborn itself from the ashes. I really think that's something special.

At first, I thought that Wizards and witches are the most powerful race, but there are (in my opinion) only two wizards who may be able to kill a dragon (Dumbledore and Voldemort).
Yet, we do know more powers of Phoenixes than of Dragons. Like it has been said before, they cannot die, their tears can heal even poisoned wounds, they can lift enormous weights and at least Fawkes was able to fight the basilisk.May they have a chance against dragons?

I voted OTHER, as I do not think we can compare the powers of these magical creatures. Its one has its own unipueness. Altough wizards can do a lot in allmost every section of magic.

The unicorn and the phoenix are also powerful and strong. The mere people I o not know. They seem to be intelligent and there for magically powerful. The centaus re aslo powerful.

The other cretures I do not think are very strong magically.

I'm going to have to say, in terms of magical powers, house elfs are the most powerful because they don't need a wand to direct their magical powers. They also can easily thwart human magic (i.e. no apparating inside hogwarts rule)
However, their mentality is self defeating and stops them from achieving anything greater than being house elfs

humans.. only because they have wands. If were not counting wands, then it would prob be house elves or phenoxis... they dont need wands to preform magic

I said Wizards. Sure each of the others has their own special abilities and whatnot but how many of will get involved with the war? The House-elves might, if Dobby can get to them. The Centaurs won't because they don't care about the plight of Wizards. none of the beasts will unless Voldemort can make the Dragons go for him and Harry can get the Unicorns to go for his side. The rest of them won't even be mentioned. So Wizards are the most powerful people. They're the only ones that can save the rest of them.
