I WISH!
Not that I want to see anyone die really, but I just want to see a thestral. Because, once you know they exsist, it just sucks that you can't see them.

I wouldnt be able to see a Thestral. No one has ever died in front of me... I have seen dead people before

but thank goodness no... I have never seen anyone die, and I dont think I want to... though it would be nice to be able to see a creature that is otherwise invisible.

I agree, I would love to be able to see a Thestral, just for the fact it's probably my favourite magical beast. But no, I haven't seen anyone die, nor do I want to. My grandma died when I was 9, but I didn't actually SEE her die. I heard about it from the hospital.
It's actually not a sensitive topic about the death of my grandma... I guess I just didn't know her well enough to grieve. Though, I was very shocked - I had never had a family member die when I was alive, and aware of my surroundings.
Though, it's weird, I had a twin, but it died in my mum's uterus; so, would that count as me seeing someone die?

I'm couldn't see a thestral and I'm glad. It would be an awful thing to see someone die right in front of you. I don't beieve I could bear the memories. They would haunt me forever.

Yes,I would be able to see a Thestral because 3yrs back I saw my grandmother die of stomach cancer. It really sad sight and I was crying so much because I close to my Gran than anyother. She told that she could see Jesus calling her and things like that...Sorry,if I had spoilt anyone's mood but I'm bit emotional..

Luckily, I can't. I think the memories of someone dying in front of me would be just as terrifying as seeing a thestral for the first time. I guess ignorance really is bliss.

Not me, not yet. I'm sure I'll face it someday, well, I suppose I might avoid it, but it's only the purest chance if you do, isn't it? So far I've either been shielded or I've just not known about it. Thestrels sound nice though, they sound like sweet creatures, if a little spooky looking. In a way, maybe getting to see them is a reward for facing death.

I wouldn't be able to see a thestral because i have not wittnessed anyone dying. I'm not sure that i would be able to cope with the emotional stress of seeing someone die in front of me. It would haunt my thoughts and my sub-conscience. I'm glad i can't see a thestral!!

I haven't seen anyone die.............thank God. I'd cry for days even if my pet rabbit had died! All my grandparents are alive but one of my great-aunts is dead but I didn't really know her.
Hey just wondering.......shouldn't Harry have been able to see them before his fourth year because he saw his parents die?

Dec 27 2006, 01:50 PM
Thats absolutely true chhermione becuase in the book it says something like "Harry noticed some horses pulling the carriage where usually it was pulled by itself" or something like that!! That's dumb...
Anyway...I'm not sure whether I could see a Thestral or not because I've seen my cat die but I don't think that would count but maybe it would....I don't know!

i couldn't see a thestral, and for that i'm most certainly thankful! Although I have had people close to me, i've never been present when it's happened.
And I'm really sorry for all of you that could see one, losing someone you care about is a really hard thing to experience.

Yes, But only if animals count...I watched my kitten die when i was little but i hadn't had her that long so it didn't bother me too much.

Yes. that's the same with me HappyHippogriff!
Except my cat was old so it was really hard and sad:( Animals are like people really. It's almost as if they can talk! And even though my cat was really small, she's left a big space!

Fortunately, I don't think I could, and that is something for which I am very thankful. I have seen animals after they have died, and my great grandmother at her wake, but I've never actually seen someone dying.

I wouldn't be able to see a thestral, which i guess is a good thing, because it would be horrible to see someone die. I've seen dead animals, and my Grandpa died, but i never saw them dying thankfully.

i would not be able to see them...i wouldn't say unfortunately...i mean..thestrals are supposed to be beautiful looking creatures. maybe they're that beautiful, that if you've seen someone die in front of you and have that sadness..a thestral might cheer you up and make you feel happy inside..lol..i dunno..im sorta just spilling out whatever comes to mind. But no one has died in front of me, so no, i wouldn't be able to see them

No, i wouldn't be able to a thestral...am i think thats fortunate. i'm really quite lucky not that many people have died in my life and i was there when any of them did... in a way its a shame as i can't see there beauty but i would rather it this way round...so no i would not be able to see a thestral.

I would be able to see a thestral. I was going for my EMT license and volunteering for the fire department. We got called out to a stab wound victim. It was horrible. I decided then and there that I would never go any further in the medical field. I can't handle seeing people like that and going through things like that. It's depressing. All I could think about was the family of the victim and how devastated they would be.

I would be able to see a thestral too.
I was with my grandma when she died. we were alone at home. while she was saying something to me, she had a stroke. I was younger and I didn`t know what happened. She couldn`t tallk and she couldn`t do anything with left arm. I called ambulance, but she got another stroke when they were trying to put her in ambulance.
the worst is that I do not remember what she was saying to me before the stroke.

Oh I could definitely see threstrals. I'm a cardiac nurse and it's a rather sad truth that not everyone who comes to the hospital has a happy ending. I remember my first patient that died was really hard for me to get over, but I learned a lot from that first experience and have been able to help others adjust since then. It's definitely my least favorite part of the job, but I wouldn't say that it hasn't made me perhaps a bit stronger of a person.

Yes, I would definitely be able to see thestrals. When I was a teenager, my mother, who is an ER nurse, felt I had a morbid fascination with death and horror (I liked to watch horror and slasher movies). She felt I needed to see this in "real life", so she arranged for me to work in the ER. I did, for two years. Let me put it this way, I no longer have any desire to watch or read or even hear about violence or death anymore. It was a struggle to watch Robocop and I walked out of Gangs of New York after ten minutes.
Did I ever see anyone die? Only too frequently.

May 24 2007, 04:26 PM
oh yes I could
and it was all by chance
usually when someone die in my family I just get as far as I could
but one day our neighbor died and I saw him
thank god it wasn't accident or something
it was like he was sleeping
after several years another neighbor of ours fell from the balcony
that was bad one I saw him when he was still alive but he was in shock so he died quickly before they got to hospital
I don't think that count
but I can see them any way

I can't, but i'm glad I can't and still wish I could at the same time. I mean, I would never want to watch anyone die, but I want to see what a thestral's like. They sound great, in a weird sort of way.

No, I wouldn't be able to see thestrals either, and thank goodness for that. I hate gore, blood, and crime scenes. That's why I stopped watching Court TV. It used to give me nightmares when I was a kid, to hear about all those murders and see the pictures, and I still don't watch it to this day. I see some of the court cases though, but that's pretty much it.
I hope that I don't ever see any die, even though it would be interesting to see a thestral. I just wouldn't be able to handle it.

*sigh* Yes, I could see them.
Car vs. motorcycle accident just outside of Las Vegas when I was 18. Four of the seven people involved in the crash died at the scene. Oddly enough, it was my boyfriend and I on the motorcycle that survived and all but one of the people in the car that were killed. Terrible thing.... I haven't driven a day since, I'm terrified of cars.
I've also been present at the deathbeds of a few relatives, most recently my Nana who passed in January. (I miss you Nana!)

Thankfully i wouldn't be able to see them, as i have never seen anyone die, but for the record i feel for everyone on here who has answered yes!
i was wondering... the first time Harry can see the Thestral is in OOTP, but the PS film portrays Harry as in the room when his mother is killed? so y hasnt he been able to see them all along since his first year? is this just the film changing it a bit and he actually didnt see Lily die or is it because he can't remember the scenes, he was too young and forgot?
p.s. sorry to slightly change the subject i just wondered

Mmm, great question, yet very depressing.....I could see them because my grandma died from cancer in front of me while we were visiting...she fell asleep when we were watching her and when I went up a few hours later...she wouldn't wake up, I was 6. Also, do think it counts if you watch people die on TV? I don't think that it would.

Fortunately i would not be able to see them. Although it would have been awful to be able to see them, i can't help wishing i kenw wat they look like. in the movie it would be soo cool if you could only see them if you had seen someone who died. i wonder what they are going to do about that...

fortunatly, i would not be able to see a theseral
as for the harry thing, we dont have anyproof he saw them die.we know that he was in the room, but all he remembers is a bright green flash of light and his parents voices. I dontthink that he was looking at his parents when they died, in all of the confusion.

well unfortunetly yes i would be able to see one.
when i was five i watched my older cousin die on my sisters first birthday
but what a sad topic so to lighten it up a bit it would be kind of cool to be able to see one although it may be better not to be able to see them because when you rode one it would seem like you were floating (kinda scary really)

I wouldn't be able to see a thestral, I'm thankful for that but I would still want to be able to see one. I think its Ron in the book isn't it who wants to see it but then realises the cost of being able to see it.
I was by my nana's side on her death bed, I was five and she had cancer but she didn't die until a few days later so I guess I wouldn't be able to see Thestrals. Its quite sad actually me and my brother, who was 4, were playing in his room, jumping on his bed, laughing, being happy and having fun when my dad came in to tell us that she had died. I didn't even really understand fully at the time either...

I went very close to be able to see Thestrals.
My granny was in hospital and my dad brought me there so I could say goodbye to her. Then he took me home and got back to the hospital about half an hour later but when he arrived she had already passed away.

I would be able to see a thestral, sadly. I saw my grandma die. She died of a brain anurism at my house ... I was sitting right beside her and it just happened. The ambulance came but by the time they did, she was already gone.
