Full Version: Ootp Taking 3 Years To Release?

Ootp being the biggest book in the Hp series yet, might be cut into two parts; like the idea Newell had with Gof. There are lots of things to think about for the movie, the cuts & keeps, characters, scenes etc. Therefore, people are predicting that instead of 2007, the movie might not release until 2008! Which means all seven Harry Potter movies might not be done until 2010 or even 2012! I'll be 20 by then...ohmy.gif lol I wonder what year will it be....what about the weather...summer or winter? What do you think?
Omerus_Banning
Well, whenever it does get released, I am sure that it will leave a whole lot of the book's scenes out. I cannot possibly cover everything in the book, and will definitely not be 2 parts; that practically NEVER happens...

I like to see the movies because I am curious to see how filmmakers portray certain aspects of the novels. But I somehow always leave the theater somewhat disappointed by movie adaptations...

We'll have to wait and see I guess...
avrilluver
wow... that's a scary thought... i'll be 20 also. i think rupert will be like 24 by then.... ( tongue.gif )

Hmmm. I dont' think this is true. June 2007 is the official word. I think they'll stick to it. I mean they will be able to put the important parts in the movie. They can always cut the dursley's out, just adding the dementor attacks. They can leave all the detentions assigned by Umbridge. THere are lotsa stuff to put out that wont affect the main plot.
Nimbus
I really don't think that is true. It has never taken anywhere near three years to make a movie. Even the longest movies are done in under a year usually. If they say itll be out in 2007 then it should be out in 07
SharinganBlue
The longest time I know that took long to make a movie was The Matrix, and second and last part at least, as far as I know. I think that the HP series will be a shorter time now since PoA was long and it took 3 yrs. to make.
Nimbus
PoA didin't take three years to make. It may have been three years between the realese of the 2nd and 3rd films, but those 3 years were not all spent on making the film.

1) howerver , it's silly to be upset when you are English or American...
I'm italian and we always have to wait the traslations of the movies that can take three or four months in some cases... mad.gif
We are also obliged to wait six or seven months to read HP books in Italian!! It's a very long time and for Gof,Ootp and Hbp I had to buy english copies.

2) Replying to the question: the producers of Ootp cannot use "magic" to make the movie: the story is very complex, therefore is very difficult to cut too many parts of the plot. I think instead it's possible that Ootp will be finished in two or, probably, three years and it's also possible the producers will recast someone become too "old"... unsure.gif

p.s. I apologize for my bad English. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

One of my favorite movies of all time, Moulin Rouge took almost 4 years to complete. blink.gif But...that had soundtracks sang by the cast and stuff like that.

I can't see it taking that long hough. The only reason it takes as long as it does to make a movie is the editing and graphics, thatare added later. I think it depends on how detailed they decide to get with this movie. I also think they will rethink cutting too much if the reaction to GoF is a negative one. wink.gif
PADFOOT'S avenger
ive recently heard that they are shooting for a holiday 07 release-about 4 months after the 7th book. this is the best case scenario and i hope everything goes according to plan.

i doubt we can hope much more than this- both for the book and the OotP movie.
PigWithHair
Four months after Book 7 release? Hmm...JKR hasn't written Book 7 yet and, according to her web site, she has no deadline with the publisher so there's no way to know when Book 7 will come out, if I'm not mistaken.

Holiday 2007 release for OoftP seems a long way off, though, don't you think? They're going to start filming in January 2006 if imdb.com is to be believed. So it could come out Nov/Dec 2006. It doesn't usually take 2 full years to make a movie.
M2MCrAzY
Yeah, but they might make the movie 3, maybe even 4 hours long, because OotP is so big, and that's a very important book since it explains alot of the story, so that could take even 1 year to film, then they would still have to add the all effects and such, which could take 3-5 months, give or take a few. I've also heard they're setting a release date of June 2007. Sounds right to me.

Am I the only one here who believes that splitting the 5th movie into two separate movies is a great idea? I mean, the most common complaints I hear about the movies is that too much is left out from the books. What better way is there to remedy that? Another plus is that we get to see more Harry Potter!!! One thing though... Where would they split the movie? I suppose it could be after the Arthur being bit scene.
Verona
I don't think it will take that long to release. There are some parts in this book that can be quite easily cut out; whereas in my opinion HBP will be harder to release. I think Harry Potter 5 will just follow the normal schedule and come out in summer 2007.
priori_incantatem
They will start filming in Jan. 2006. It took 11 months to complete filming GoF. So let's say it take a year to complete filming OotP. It'll be Jan. 2007. So I think it'll come out around June 2007...? All this business about 2 movies is stupid. I think they've already decided against that.
xXhApOcHiCxX
I'am not hoping for much this time form the 5th movie. they will just chop everything up again. They better go into detail about the prophecy. If they don't iam gonna be ****ed of like no tommorow. They better show more detail this time and they should try to make it longer if their make us wait so much atleast tryto satisfy the audience.
NyMpHaDoRa
Blimey! they couldnt possibly wait until then. huh.gif even if they only cut a couple of non important things, filming will only take a couple of months. what they should be worried about is how long its going to take until they finish with the special effects wink.gif
cnguye5
I think towards the end, they'll start splitting the larger books into 2 movies, so they can suck the profit once the material goes out. If anything, OoTP would be split into two rather than HBP.

I'm surprised how they're making such a big issue of age. You see actors in their late twenties portraying high school kids all of the time in American Cinema. :/

Anglophile92
i really would have no problem if they make this movie into 2 parts, it is the longest yet and i wouldn't want good scenes to be cut out. i would rather wait the three or two years for it to come out rather to see a bad movie moving too fast paced and missing important parts in the movie.

however i doubt if they would make it into two parts, because the Heyman said something about cutting out the chapters that is not relvant to the plot line. but...*fingers-crossed* you never know! biggrin.gif

cnguye5 i do agree with you completely! Age should not be a factor but the acting should! If they made it into parts they would make a huge profit!
HarryPotteraddict
Although i hate the idea of waiting even longer, I think it would be good to be split in 2 parts. This would allow the movie to have more details and not seem rushed. I thought the begginning of the 4th movie seemed really rushed and i don't want all of the 5th movie to be rushed.
paolopaolo
i agree..the movie will be a lot more interesting if it were cut into two. i mean, imagine watching two hp movies instead of one..that would really be a whole lot better.. biggrin.gif..and there wouldnt be a lot of cuts so the movie would be much more detailed.but what they did with GoF really was amazing and they stuck with the more important parts. but still it was rather short considering the book was pretty thick. and yeah i bet the movie will be out sometime in 2007. they cant make the fans wait!
Auror37
I don't think the movie will b cut nto two parts and I am sure that it will not come out in 2008. The official release date is sometime in June of 2007, with the sixth movie releasing in November 2008, and the final movie coming out in 2010. (My guess June)
Rictusempra
CUtting it into 2 would be cool but it might make it too long but that would be really fun to watch! They could add all the extrra stuff like DObby & Even S.P.E.W & all the Umbridge hatred. ALthough, i think they will cut it short as well sad.gif I just hope it doesnt take that long to get out. smile.gif
Agent0042
I have seen 2007 listed as the release date on several sites, although I don't know if that's maybe just talk. 2007 seems right to me though if they stay the course. I imagine converting Phoenix to a movie should be similar to the process of converting Goblet. And they've already started casting and such and I think already filming too and writing the script, etc.
priori_incantatem
They haven't started filming yet, only casting. Have they started writing the script yet? I hope they start soon.
Xethos
Theres no way at all that its goin to be two movies, honestly that has to be the dumbest idea ever, im sorry...and secondly theres no way its going to be any longer then 3hrs tops, they dont make movies that long and they wont, im sure die-hard fans wont care how long the movie is and will sit there for 6 hours if t was that long but u have to look at it in a practical manner, most people wont watch a movie that is that long... Lord of the Rings pt 3 was one of the longer films that was ever in the movies and people even though that was too long, maybe eventually they will do what they did and release extended editions for the fans of the books....my guess is late 07' if they are in fact starting filming in jan 06'
Be||atrix
Absolutely no cutting the film into two. Look what happened to The Matrix. rolleyes.gif
Nimbus
Well, I know it's been a while, but for anyone who is still wondering David Heyman said on CBBC the film would be released either summer or fall 2007, and the sixth film would be out late 2008. He also mentioned that a trailer should be revealed by the end of this year.
hermione_rocks
even though i don't want to wait really long for this movie... i want this movie to reach it's highest potential so i can wait as long as it takes them... i think it would be better if they released the movie in november 2007 because HP does well during that time of month... summer isn't really a good time for them to release this movie

and if they do release it in november, they can still release the sixth movie in november the next year which means that we would we have two HP movies one year after another! biggrin.gif they could just release OotP later, but still start filiming for HBP and still be able to release it in november 2008

the movie should be cut into two parts no matter how much i want there to be a lot of things from the book to be included in the movie... having two parts would just be really weird and unnecessary. hopefully OotP will be one long movie... around 3 hours! happy.gif
