maybe I am over-analyzing but this thought just popped into my head last night. How are broomstics made? Are they just charmed or bewitched to fly? If so, isn't that stype of missuse of muggle artifacts? And then, coulsn't anyone really make their own bromstick? and what makes certain types beter than the others? is it just craftmanship? or do the charms/bewitchments get better? Just a thought.

Well, it says in Quidditch Through the Ages that witches and wizards used to make their broomsticks at home, but then craftsman. And I'm not sure if they're still made individualy. But I think that how good the brooms are is a combination craftmanship and charms used on it. And technically it does violate as a missuse of muggle artifacts, but there are plenty of others thing that do, too. (wizards chess) And I suppose not many muggles go around picking up random brooms very often? Or maybe they don't notice the magic and can't fly on them themselves. I'm not sure. It might also have something to do with brooms commonly being associated with witches.

Or maybe the broomsticks are charmed so only witches and wizards can fly them, and that's why muggles don't accidentally take flight when trying to clean the pantry...

Yeah... that would be kind of weird

And thats why i always vacuum my kitchen and not sweep it, it would be terrible to accidentally take flight!

well, apparently, muggles are very stupid, and dont notice anything.
so i agree, they are too stupid to realize that it flies, and only use it to clean.

I think that broomsticks are just charmed with a flying spell. They probably make the spell unbreakable so no-one can tamper with the broom.

Do you think the spells are kept secret so other companies couldn't steal their secrets (like a comet being made as fast as a firebolt?)
Shuntpike

Yeah, they must because all the brooms are different. I'm sure if they could a company would steal the Firebolt's secrets so they could make a broom just as good as it.

Muggles aren't stupid. There's a lot of spells and stuff that keep them from noticing magic, and a lot of times when they do see magic they automatically try to find a non-magical explanation so they aren't considered loony.

Lol Hermione's freak HURRY UP AND READ IT....please. Also where did you get it from? Yeah I think they make the broom and then put the flying charm on, but why broomsticks? Why couldn't they just get abit of cloth that is more comfortable and put a flying charm on that, or on yourself. But yeah I would prefer a dream. OH I wish I had a flippin broom now.

um, muggles arent too thick to use the brooms, they just dont have magic. it is rare for muggles to have any control or magical talent at all, and plus a charmed broom would never be found in a muggle cupboard would it? If you look at the different type of flying brooms, you'll see that they differ in control and speed, The Nimbus 2002 or whatever the latest one was (i aint gonna go get my book) had just a more powerful charm which made it faster and more sensitive to control, plus it was crafted as a flying broom, not a cleaning one, so is contoured and so fourth. I havnt even read quiditch through the ages, but this much is known from the books.

I've got Quidich through the ages *frantically tries to remember what it said*
Muggles simply don't get hold of the broomsticks, get on them and kick off. Well, not untill they read HP anyway
We use hoovers and normal muggle brooms, the wizards keep thier brooms safe and away from muggles.

I think they just bewitch the broom to fly. Or maybe they grow a special type of magical tree that they use to make a broom.
I was just wondering, isn't it really uncomfortable when you are flying on a broom for a very long time? Specially for a guy. I was just wondering.

yeah i have always wondered how they worked, i mean how do they update them then to have more speed like the differnces between firebolts and nimbus 2000s if they use magic to charm them?.

I expect the better brands hire better Wizards to charm the brooms and the more money gives them a better chance to experiment with different woods and aerodynamic designs.

Hi!
A friend told me this and it got me thinking. If you bewitch a broom, wouldn't it be misuse of a muggle artifact?

I think that the brooms are bewitched a certain way that only broommakes know how to do or something. Otherwise people would just bewitch their own brooms so they would have to pay a boat-load of money to somebody.
