I agree. I've seen the second one, and it ROCKS! Not as much as Harry Potter, though.

I think the X-Men series is the king of the genre. It's just so relevant.

what about thunderbirds?
you guys heard of it?
it was a really old tv show from the 60's. little puppet things, they were super heroes.
and they made it into a movie, which i am going to see with my dad. becuase he is a major thunderbirds fan.

Aug 11 2004, 09:08 AM
Yeah, I used to watch it when I was a kid (the repeats, that is! I'm not THAT old!) Didn't really do much for me though, to be honest. I always kind of preferred Stingray.
My nephew enjoyed the Thunderbirds movie though...I didn't really fancy it all that much - it looked a bit cheesy to me.
X-Men though - now there's a movie.... I totally agree with Spanner - it's very relevant - there are so many issues in that film that are analogous to real-life situations - intolerance, prejudices...plus of course, the special effects are pretty cool!!!
I loved Spiderman II though as well... You know, when I was watching that movie, I could really see Toby Maguire playing an older Harry Potter, if Daniel ever gets fed up of it all....he's got that whole kind of confused, angst-driven hero thing going on too.....

I think I'm the only one that preferred the first Spiderman as opposed to the second. I don't know. I guess I'm weird like that.
I love X-men, although I only saw a part of X-2. I've heard they're coming out with a third one! GO MARVEL.
I don't know if Power Rangers count, or if they had a movie in theaters. But I loved them in the 90's, despite the cheap effects.

Yeah, they did have a movie! It was sooooo cool!!! (I know...I was a very sad kid...

I loved the Power Rangers....but only the early ones....I used to have a bit of a thing for the guy who played Billy (the blue one)....

..... What can I say? I just love a guy who wears glasses.....

My favorite super hero movie would have to be X- men and X- men 2. That might be because i love Hugh Jackman... and the guy that plays ice-man, but oh well. Also love spiderman and spiderman 2... but the first was my favorite.
As far as T.v goes, i love darkwing duck, although it is only on at like midnight now...

There have been a lot of them in the last few years. Not ten years ago, fantasy was laughed at. But I think the HP movies, and the LOTR trilogy, changed a lot of people's attitudes.
I think that improved special effects have helped a lot too, by helping audiences suspend disbelief more easily. I mean, what made fantasy movies so laughable in the past were the corny, obvious special effects. Now a good fantasy movie can be made believable!
And, when one super hero movie makes money, it encourages movie studios to take a chance on another.
I like Spiderman, and I enjoyed Batman Begins, but I'm already a Christian Bale fan, so that helps.

I haven't seen the new Superman movie. Heck, I haven't even seen Spiderman 2, though I did just buy a copy a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had time to watch it.
I don't care for super hero movies as much as fantasy like LOTR and such though. I never was a huge comic book fanatic.

Yep.I am inclined to agree with you there. Super
Hero movies have come on so much with the andvances made in special effects. I am a big Superman fan and thought that Christopher Reeve was the ultimate. The effects in those films were mean't to be state of the art but look a bit dated now in comparison to the new movie.I did believe a man could fly!!
Batman was always a bit comical to me for a super hero. although now he's portrayed as a darker figure.
Spiderman was never in the running although I do like the recent movies (Spiderman 3 looks like it will be really good).
I'm like you Darcy..LOTR and Hp are more my cup of tea.
Have I answered the question? My favourite Super hero movie..this year it's Superman Returns!

This is to inform that I have edited the title a bit to help the search engine to catch the keywords better.

Anywho, to keep on topic, I must say that publishers are beginning to realize that with the help of CGIs and other technologies available right now, anything that may seems impossible to visualize through the screen for the past two decades are now doable. They can make a man fly through the air as if hung from a single thread, or run three hundred miles per hour very convincingly as though it really happen! The only thing that might spoil everything (or further impress people, if you look at it in other side) is when one watch the 'Behind the Scene' for that movie.
I think the movie makers are trying to fulfill what the audience wants. It works with Spider-Man and X-Men, so why stop there? I think the growth of comics/super heroes movies is not only from the result of avaliable advance technology, but also the positive response from the audience.
Oh, and my favourite super hero movie? Definitely Spider-Man.

I love SuperHero movies

I love Superheroes! I used to watch the cartoons all the time, teehee!
Yeah, it's definately something to do with the advance in technology, it's much easier now. If you've the Superman (the first one) when he's running along by the train?

It's so funny, it's much easier to make that look real now

But also, i think it's peoples attitude to superheroes, and comics. It's not cinsidered 'Geeky and uncool' but more acceptable in some cirlces. Although some people won't think that way

They mad X-men I think on the off chance, and were surpirsed at how popular it was and decided to continue and make more, I think I heard that somewhere... it might have been Jay and Silent Bob, so it might be utter rubbish

Um... as you can probably guess by my siggie and avvie I like the new Superman film, very much

But my favourite it probably the X-men trilogy, i've loved X-men since I was little.
I'm not so much of a Batman fan, and i didn't really like Batman begins that much, I like Spiderman, but I haven't seen Fantastic 4, nor the hulk... but i heard that the hulk was pants.

When I was in school I read all the Marvel comics. Secretly, because my parents did not approve of "rubbish"as they called it. I liked Spiderman with his double identity problems, and I loved the Fantastic Four with the constant arguing between all the characters. I liked the Spiderman films. When the Fantastic Four film came out, I was in two minds about going to see it, anxious about how Hollywood would treat the characters and their interaction. I should not have worried -- everything I liked about the FF was there, perfectly.
One reason that we live in superhero season is that the adults who are making the films have grown up reading Marvel comics. Having a certain regard for the subject really helps. And knowing that there are three generations of people willing to pay the price of a cinema ticket to see their heroes in action surely gives a good incentive to do well.

Im a huge fan of the comic book movies and super hero movies. I even like daredevil and punisher when others hated them. I do love the spiderman series I think its really great. I hated elektra and I hated catwoman. Fantastic Four was mediocre at best and I wasnt a huge fan of Superman or the Hulk. However, my favoirte superhero movie is Batman begins. They hit a wall with Batman forever and Batman and Robin however, they really hit the nail on the head with Batman Begins. I think it was so well done and all around amazing.

Hi there SpencerPotter welcome to Veritaserum

Could you just have a read of the rules? Netspeak isn't allowed on VTM and I'm afraid saying #3 counts, in future if you could just type it out in full

Thanks, and happy Posting

Also... I saw Fantastic four the other day, and I wasn't too chuffed with it. Can't wait until Superman Returns comes out on DVD! I think going to see it three times at the cinema would be a bit... extreme

I like all the super hero movies that are coming out. It seems that if something was a book or a comic first, then hollywood has to get thier hands on it and make it a movie or a tv show adaptation. But just because it bothers me that they do that, doesnt mean that thier final product is awful.
Spiderman & X-Men and thier sequals were both really good movies, and well of course Harry Potter was amazing. (Duh)

Well at the moment, I am really hooked on the whole entire Spiderman movies. The first one was great and the second one was very well done. I never really got interested in the Superman movies, but I did see a few of the Batman ones. I thought they were pretty entertaining but almost no match to the Spiderman movies. I am really excited for the third one to come out and hope that it is as good as the ones before it.

well i'm not really into super hero/action movies (excluding hp of course) but i really liked xmen, sky high, and the most recent superman returns.
Xmen is really awesome because all of the powers in the movie are really unique and cool. like wolverine and magneto and xavier. it also has romance and a lot of comedy and its really addicting.
Sky high is wicked sweet because its like the kid version of xmen- you have the superhero school and, again, romance, comedy, and adventure.
Superman returns is no doubt my favorite movie ever. i've never seen any other superman movies before and this one really got me hooked. i loved the fact that superman has a son and he's going to become the new superman. you won't believe how many people were looking at me when i *squeed* in the movie theater. i was sooo happy and excited FOR the movie.. so yea. weird experience.

The only super hero movies I've really seen that aren't Disney are the X-Men movies. They're my favorite heros ever.

I watch the show whenever it's on.
I hate the way Last Stand ended though, both my favorites died, (stomp to my room to sulk)

I wrote a whole story on what happens after.
Sky High and The Incredibles are good too.
I heard theres going to be a Wolverine movie and a Magneto movie a possibly an X-Men 4 about te kids.
When I saw X3 I was cracking up, nowone else was laughing at all.

I like the middelish power rangers sometimes.
I love X-Men, but just cause I like the characters and fighting. I try to ignore the analogies lol.
I saw Thunderbirds, it was okay, not exactly super heros though. Spy Kids are cool except they're not really super heros either.
MargeauxBlack I think the guy who played Iceman's name was Shawn Ashmoore. I'm not sure if I spelled it right though.Oh I forgot the Powerpuff Girls

well i'm a very big fan of comics and to be honest they've practically ruined some of the best comics hahaha like elektra and daredevil they completely ruined the plot of the story, it's kind of like the harry potter movies they take out alot of stuff from the books, it's the same with super hero storys the only two movies about superheros are spiderman and fantastic four (they managed to be accurate on those) but the rest aren't very based on the comic hahahaj ust my humble opinion

I don't read or watch cartoons with superheroes- i don't know why, but i never liked them. Probably because they are too dark and i want cartoons to be funny with bright colours etc. But i like some of the superheroes movies. Especially Spiderman, it was such a nice and not-at-all boring movie! I can't wait for Spiderman 3 to be releashed!

Superhero movies aren't really my favourite thing but I've seen a few. The Spiderman films are the exception for me, I think they are great films. Can't wait for the third one to be released. Swinging off buildings, wouldn't you just love it?
Batman and X men films are quite good, although in the last X men film I refused to watch it. I heard Cyclops died within like the first five minutes, why did they do that? Anyway I really like James Marsden so I didn't watch it.
Hated the Hulk, just wasn't my kind of film. Superman Returns I found kind of dull except for a line that had me laughing for quite a while, when the kid says 'Your bald.' I really don't know, it was just random and made me laugh.

I never liked the Hulk, or Fantastic Four very much. I saw them, but I never liekd them much. Same with Batman.
As for X-Men, I am not obsessed, or a total fan, and I don't know it that well. But I was sad to have Cyclops, (wasn't his name actually Scott?) die. I was on MSN a long time ago, and there was a list of like the top ten superhero movies, and I think X-Men and Spiderman made it pretty far down like number three. As for I think it was Fantastic Four, I am pretty sure it was on the top four worst superhero movies.

Miss. Minerva Mcgonagall X3 wasn't bad. It would have been my favorite if Jean and Cyclops hadn't died. Yeah he was in the movie like 5 minutes died within the first 20 of the movie, he's my favorite too and I was soo hoping him and Jean would get back together and he'd whip Wolverines butt in a fight.
My brother and I counted the number of words he said I think we came up with a grand total of like 32 words. And it's scary when you can count how many words someone says. Colussus says like 8 words in both the movies he was in.
And when our dad took us he'd read reviews and he knew what was goin' happen yet he didn't tell me.
Fantastic 4 wasn't that horrible in my opinion. But it wasn't great either.

i hate batman movies, since i dont think they do justice to the most awesome heroes of all time -- BATMAN!! aka Bruce Wayne...handsome, flirty, oh-so-masculine, and so much more that makes him so much more attractive!!
but i do love Spiderman movies, which i think are pretty well done (love Toby McGuire) and Daredevil was nice...although, since i dont like Superman, i didnt even watch it...oh and X-Men Evolution cartoon episodes were out of this world good, however, i dont like the movies at all...everything's kinda twisted...
oh and Fantastic Four was good...i'd say i like it...although i hated mr. Fantastic...the rest of the characters fit in nicely!

X-Men Evolution definetly was great. I'm still buying DVDs of it, though the fifth season which I really want I can't find.

I was so mad when they took it off. In the movies, they were good but I swear they have more problems as adults than as teenagers rofl.

--Spiderman (but not the third one)
--Batman (the new ones with Christen Bale)
--X-Men (but I still haven’t seen the third one)
--Fantastic Four (I’m not sure which one I like more)
--Daredevil (I wished they did a second one with Elektra returning)
Favourite characters:
--In Spiderman ~ Spiderman
--In Batman ~ The butler Alfred
--In X-Men ~ Storm
--In Fantastic Four ~ The Thing
--In Daredevil ~ In Elektra
I don’t like the following super-hero movies:
--Superman (especially the return movie)
--The Incredible Hulk (not the newest one with Liv Tyler, I thought that was okay)
